1Optimal design and verification of temporal and spatial filters using second-order cone programming approach显示文摘Temporal filters and spatial filters are widely used in many areas of signal processing. A number of optimal design criteria to these problems are available in the literature. Various computational techniques are also presented to optimize these criteria chosen. There are many drawbacks in these methods. In this paper, we introduce a unified framework for optimal design of temporal and spatial filters. Most of the optimal design problems of FIR filters and beamformers are included in the framework. It is shown that all the design problems can be reformulated as convex optimization form as the second-order cone programming (SOCP) and solved efficiently via the well-established interior point methods. The main advantage of our SOCP approach as compared with earlier approaches is that it can include most of the existing methods as its special cases, which leads to more flexible designs. Furthermore, the SOCP approach can optimize multiple required performance measures, which is the drawback of earlier approaches. The SOCP approach is also developed to optimally design temporal and spatial two-dimensional filter and spatial matrix filter. 2Matched field noise suppression: Principle with application to towed hydrophone line array显示文摘Discrete noise source suppression in underwa-ter acoustic channel has attracted great attention in recent years. The paper proposes a new principle for dealing with the problem. This new principle is called matched field noise suppression (MFNS). Based on a previous work of the au-thors group, a full understanding about how a discrete noise source shows effects on the performance of a towed hydro-phone line array has been obtained. In light of that finding, MFNS is proposed, which explores and utilizes the charac-teristics of the noise transmission channel to achieve much greater suppression of the noise in comparison with existing approaches. MFNS combines the concept of matched field processing (MFP) and optimal sensor array processing (OSAP) together to suppress the discrete noise source and to maintain an optimal beam for receiving far-field wanted plane wave signals. A MFNS beam-former is deduced in constraint with signal plane-wave response being unit and noise matched field response being zero. A closed-form solution of the weight vec-tor for the beam-former is given. 3Designs and implementations of broadband beamformers显示文摘The designs and implementations of broadband beamformers are reviewed and discussed.Broadband beamformer includes discrete Fourier transform(DFT) implementation of a frequency-domain beamformer and finite impulse response(FIR) implementation of a timedomain beamformer.The designs of weights at each frequency bin for the DFT beamformer and that of FIR filters associated with each sensor for the FIR beamformer are both introduced.Performance analysis and comparisons for several typical approaches to them are presented.A unified approach,i.e.,multiple-constrained approach,to narrowband beamformer is provided and is extended to the FIR implementation of broadband case.The unified approaches include the existing individual approaches as their special cases,which leads to much more flexible designs.Design examples of broadband robust adaptive beamformer with constant mainlobe response and controlled sidelobes are given to illustrate the behavior.YAN Shefeng 2016Chinese Journal of Acoustics2016,35,4:4
4Target localization and parameters estimation by sonar system with explosions as underwater sound sources显示文摘Underwater target localization and parameters(azimuth and range) estimation by the method of utilizing explosions as underwater sound sources are described in this paper.The narrow beam reverberation model of the target echo signal is researched to estimate the target azimuth in reverberation background.Estimation errors of target azimuth and range are studied and proved to approximately meet Gauss distribution.Then the variance formula of target range error is deduced.Simulation experiments are applied to research the target range error and its standard deviation,and a series of measures to improve the estimation accuracy of target range are proposed.It is confirmed by the data processing results of simulations and lake experiments that the proposed method can accurately locate underwater target at a long distance on the condition of a certain underwater explosion range error.YAN Sheng WEI Xiaojun HAO Chengpeng MA Hui YAN Shefeng 2016Chinese Journal of Acoustics2016,35,4:4
5Bidirectional turbo equalization for underwater acoustic communications显示文摘A direct-adaptation based bidirectional turbo equalizer for underwater acoustic communications is proposed.Abandoning the channel estimation process,the direct-adaptation based turbo equalizer embedded with digital phase-locked loop is adopted to track time-varying channel.The fast self-optimized algorithm is used to adjust the step size,thus a good tradeoff between the convergence speed and performance has been made.Furthermore,by minimizing the mean squared error,an optimal weighting factor is derived to exploit bidirectional diversity gain.The forward turbo equalizer is combined with the backward turbo equalizer to eliminate error propagation effect.Simulated and experimental results demonstrate that the bidirectional turbo equalizer outperforms the single directional one.It can be seen from the experimental results that,compared with the channel estimation based algorithm,the direct-adaptation based algorithm is less sensitive to the time-varying channel and has a lower bit error rate.XI Junyi YAN Shefeng XU Lijun TIAN Jing 2016Chinese Journal of Acoustics2016,35,4:4
6Frame synchronization for underwater acoustic communication based on maximum likelihood estimation显示文摘Traditional frame synchronization methods for underwater acoustic communication(UWAC) merely depend on correlation coefficient when synchronization signal detection is concerned and,hence,false triggering and missed synchronization can hardly be avoided in complex UWAC channels.In order to solve this problem,firstly,we analyze the effects of interference from noise,multipath and Doppler on frame synchronization;then we propose a new frame synchronization scheme based on parameter estimation.By exploiting the parameter estimation technique,we detect the synchronization signal according to the estimated parameters,thus the false triggering rate and missed synchronization rate can be reduced.We also simplify the maximum likelihood estimation to reduce computational cost.Simulation results indicate that this new scheme outperforms the traditional method in terms of delay resolution and correlation coefficient.Both static and mobile communication experimental results show that the correlation coefficient of the new scheme is higher than that of the traditional one.Moreover,the detection ability of the receiver is improved,which helps to avoid false triggering and missed synchronization.GUO Zheng YAN Shefeng XU Lijun QIN Ye 2016Chinese Journal of Acoustics2016,35,4:4
7Underwater acoustic multipath sparse channel estimation via gridless relevance vector machine method显示文摘In the scenario of underwater acoustic sparse channel estimation with trainingsequences, grid points in the measuring matrix are caused by discretizing procedure. Estimatedaccuracy might not be guaranteed with the state-of-the-art methods when multipath delaysdon't exactly locate on the grid points. In this paper, we construct a gridless measuring matrixfor sparse channel estimation which contains an off-grid adjusting factor. The Relevance VectorMachine (RVM) algorithm is employed to estimate this factor. The numerical experiments fortwo different underwater channels are performed to testify the newly proposed method. 8Soft Direct-Adaptation Based Bidirectional Turbo Equalization for MIMO Underwater Acoustic Communications显示文摘This paper proposes a soft direct-adaptation based bidirectional turbo equalizer for multiple-input multiple-output underwater acoustic communication systems. Soft, rather than hard, direct-adaptation based equalizer combined with the fast self-optimized least mean square algorithm is employed to achieve a faster convergence rate, and the second-order phase-locked loop is embedded into the equalizer to track the time-varying channel. Meanwhile, by utilizing a weighted linear combining scheme, the conventional soft direct-adaptation based equalizer is combined with the time-reversed soft direct-adaptation based equalizer to exploit bidirectional diversity and mitigate error propagation. 9The development of a new real-time subsurface mooring显示文摘Subsurface mooring allows researchers to measure the ocean properties such as water temperature,salinity,and velocity at several depths of the water column for a long period.Traditional subsurface mooring can release data only after recovered,which constrains the usage of the subsurface and deep layer data in the ocean and climate predictions.Recently,we developed a new real-time subsurface mooring(RTSM).Velocity profiles over upper 1000 m depth and layered data from sensors up to 5000 m depth can be realtime transmitted to the small surface buoy through underwater acoustic communication and then to the office through Beidou or Iridium satellite.To verify and refine their design and data transmission process,we deployed more than 30 sets of RTSMs in the western Pacific to do a 1-year continuous run during 2016–2018.The continuous running period of RTSM in a 1-year cycle can reach more than 260 days on average,and more than 95%of observed data can be successfully transmitted back to the office.Compared to the widely-used inductive coupling communication,wireless acoustic communication has been shown more applicable to the underwater sensor network with large depth intervals and long transmission distance to the surface.WANG Fan WANG Jianing XU Lijun ZHANG Xiangguang YAN Shefeng CHEN Yonghua 2020Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,4:2
10Underwater target feature recognition based on distribution of highlights显示文摘An algorithm for underwater target feature recognition is proposed using its highlights distribution.For an underwater target with large size and slender body,it is assumed that the heading course and the length of the target are both determined by the distribution of its highlights.By supposing that these highlights obey Gaussian mixture distribution,the feature recognition problem can be transformed into a clustering problem.Therefore,using the collinearly constrained expectation maximization algorithm,the clustering centers of these highlights can be calculated and then the estimation of the heading and length of the target can be obtained with high accuracy.The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated using simulations.LIU Yu ZHU Xiaomeng YAN Shefeng MA Xiaochuan WU Yongqing 2016Chinese Journal of Acoustics2016,35,4:2

15Research on strong reverberation suppression for high resolution active sonar显示文摘Resolution enhancement of active sonar can suppress the reverberation.While it also makes the envelope data distribution diverge from Rayleigh distribution to K-distribution.The stronger scattering speckles,the heavier of the K-distribution tails.The envelope amplitudes of these strong scattering speckles are usually very big.As the interfering target,the strong reverberation decreases the performances of the background power level estimation and the target detection.The fuzzy statistical normalization processing(FSNP) is introduced to suppress the strong reverberation firstly in this paper.Then how the strong reverberation and the FSNP affect the distribution of K-distributed sonar data is studied.The influence on the constant false alarm rate(CFAR) detection performance caused by the strong reverberation and the FSNP is also simulated and analyzed.Performance comparisons between the CFAR detector based on FSNP and the conventional CFAR detectors are carried out.The simulation results show that the strong reverberation can make the shape parameter of the interfering K-distributed data become smaller than that of the original K-distributed data.While the FSNP can suppress the strong reverberation,increase the shape parameter value,and improve the performance of the shape parameter estimator and the CFAR detector.XU Yanwei YAN Shefeng MA Xiaochuan XU Da 2016Chinese Journal of Acoustics2016,35,4:1
