1Dampness in dwellings and its associations with asthma and allergies among children in Chongqing: A cross-sectional study显示文摘The city of Chongqing has high outdoor temperatures and humidity throughout the year and consequently a high risk of dampness and mold problems in dwellings.As part of the China,Children,Homes,Health(CCHH),associations between home characteristics and children’s asthma,allergies,and related symptoms were investigated in Chongqing,China.A cross-sectional questionnaire survey on home characteristics including dampness and symptoms of asthma and allergies in 5299 children was performed.Data for 4754 children(3–6 years)and their homes were analyzed.Results showed that 35.1%of homes were reported to have'damp bedding',14.3%'condensation on window panes(higher than 5 cm)',11.6%'mouldy odor',9.3%'water leakage',8.3%'damp stains'and 5.3%'visible mould'.Wheezing and rhinitis ever were reported for 27.0%and 51.1%children respectively,and rhinitis,wheezing,cough at night and eczema in the last 12 months were reported for 38.1%,20.5%,18.9%and 13.2%respectively.Doctor-diagnosed asthma was reported for 8.3%of children,and doctor-diagnosed rhinitis for 6.2%.Dampness in homes was generally strongly associated with asthma and allergies among Chongqing children.The strongest association was found between'visible mould'and doctor-diagnosed rhinitis,and the adjusted Odds Ratio(ORA)was 2.27(95%CI:1.48,3.49).'Damp bedding'was significantly associated with all asthma and allergic symptoms,but doctor-diagnosed asthma and rhinitis.The behavior of'putting bedding to sunshine'could effectively reduce the prevalence of asthma and allergic symptoms,and the risk of bedding affected with damp was reduced significantly when bedding was put to sunshine frequently.WANG Han LI BaiZhan YANG Qin YU Wei WANG Juan LIU YiLong OU YangJin SUNDELL Jan 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:4

3Variation of Starch Property and Its Relationship with Dry White Chinese Noodle Quality in Common Wheat显示文摘In total, 185 wheat cultivars and lines from major Chinese wheat regions, Australia and USAin two trials, sown in four and two environments, respectively, were used to investigate starch property and itsrelationship with dry white Chinese noodle (DWCN) quality. Significant variations were observed in all starchparameters and DWCN quality. High pasting viscosity cultivars include Sunstate, Hartog, Eradu, Cunning-han, Gamenya, Karl92, Sunco, Yangmai5, Yangmai158, Mianyang26, Een1, Yumai41, Yumai49,Zheng81-1, Yumai54, Yumai2, Yumai47, Lu955159, Lumai15, L;mai21, Shaanyou225, Guanfeng2,Ji5099, Bainong4, and Jinmai2. Wheats from Australia, USA, South China Autumn-sown Spring Wheat Re-gion and Yellow and Huai Valley showed better starch properties and DWCN quality than those from NorthChina Plain. High peak viscosity, breakdown and flour swelling volume were significantly associated with goodDWCN quality. A relatively high frequency of Wx-B1 null alleles was detected in Chinese wheats. 5A Markov decision problem in a risk model with interest rate and Markovian environment显示文摘We consider the compound binomial model in a Markovian environment presented by Cossette et al.(2004). We modify the model via assuming that the company receives interest on the surplus and a positive real-valued premium per unit time, and introducing a control strategy of periodic dividend payments. A Markov decision problem arises and the control objective is to maximize the cumulative expected discounted dividends paid to the shareholders until ruin minus a discounted penalty for ruin. We show that under the absence of a ceiling of dividend rates the optimal strategy is a conditional band strategy given the current state of the environment process. Under the presence of a ceiling for dividend rates, the character of the optimal control strategy is given. 6Boarding issue in a commercial flight for patients with cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Several studies have demonstrated that airborne transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria from patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis(TB) to other passengers or crew members can occur during long flights. As such, non-infectious TB patients are usually allowed to undertake air travel after taking the appropriate anti-TB drugs. However, the global guidelines for air travel for patients with TB are inconsistent and insufficiently detailed with respect to cavitary pulmonary TB(CPTB).CASE SUMMARY Here, we report a case in which a patient with multiple CPTB was permitted air travel, following negative sputum acid-fast bacilli smear tests after administration of proper anti-TB medication. 16The antimicrobial interventions of cilantro(Coriandrum sativum)in mitigating cross-contamination of foodborne pathogens during the retail soaking process显示文摘The efficacy of commercially available antimicrobials for fresh produce—electrolyzed water(EW;around 60 mg/L of free chlorine),a combination of lactic acid and phosphoric acid-based(LPA)and citric acid-based(CA)—was compared with tap water(TW)in preventing cross-contamination during the soaking step of crisping at a retail setting.A bunch of cilantro((103.7±14.9)g/bunch)was inoculated with a three-strain cocktail of nalidixic acid-resistant Salmonella enterica(S.enterica)and Escherichia coli(E.coli)O157:H7,S.enterica and Listeria monocytogenes(L.monocytogenes),or E.coli O157:H7 and L.monocytogenes(around 5.0 log CFU/g).One inoculated and seven non-inoculated cilantro bunches were soaked in 76 L of TW,EW,LPA,and CA for 5 min.Two additional soakings,each with eight bunches of non-inoculated cilantro,were performed in the same soaking water.To determine the cross-contamination of inoculated foodborne pathogens via soaking water,the cilantro samples and soaking water following each soaking step were subjected to microbiological analyses using selective media supplemented with nalidixic acid(100μg/mL).During the first soaking,significantly greater reductions in Salmonella((2.9±0.5)log CFU/g),E.coli O157:H7((3.0±0.1)log CFU/g),and L.monocytogenes((2.7±0.3)log CFU/g)on cilantro were achieved with EW compared to soaking with TW,LPA,and CA(P<0.05).Cross-contamination of foodborne pathogens from inoculated cilantro to non-inoculated cilantro was completely mitigated by EW during three subsequent soaking events.With the exception of TW soaking water,no inoculated foodborne pathogens were detected in the 100 mL soaking water of EW,CA,and LPA collected.Including an appropriate concentration of chemical antimicrobial in water during the soaking step of crisping aids in mitigating cross-contamination of foodborne pathogen(s)in cilantro bunches.Yangjin Jung Mengqi Guo Jingwen Gao Hyein Jang Karl R.Matthews 2022Food Quality and Safety2022,6,4:0
