| 1 | Prognostic significance of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio in patients with stage Ⅲ and Ⅳcolorectal cancer显示文摘AIM To evaluate the prognostic value of the neutrophil-tolymphocyte ratio(NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR) in patients with colorectal cancer(CRC).METHODS Between April 1996 and December 2010, medical records from a total of 1868 patients with CRC were retrospectively reviewed. The values of simple inflammatory markers including NLR and PLR in predicting the long-term outcomes of these patients were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression models.RESULTS The median follow-up duration was 46 mo(interquartile range, 22-73). The estimation of NLR and PLR was based on the time of diagnosis. In multivariate Cox regression analysis, high NLR (≥ 3.0) and high PLR(≥ 160) were independent risk factors predicting poor long-term outcomes in patients with stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ CRC. | 2 | Experimental investigation of friction coefficient in tube hydroforming显示文摘The friction coefficient between tube and die in guide zone of tube hydroforming was obtained. In hydroforming, the tube is expanded by an internal pressure against the tool wall. By pushing the tube through tool, a friction force at the contact surface between the tube and the tool occurs. In guiding zone, the friction coefficients between tube and die can be estimated from the measured axial feeding forces. | 3 | Insights into the pathogenesis of cystoid macular edema: leukostasis and related cytokines显示文摘Cystoid macular edema(CME) is the abnormal collection of intraretinal fluid in the macular region, especially in the inner nuclear and outer plexiform layers. CME leads to severe visual impairment in patients with various retinal diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusion, choroidal neovascularization, and uveitis. Although various retinal conditions lead to CME, a shared pathogenesis of CME is involved in these diseases. Accordingly, the pathogenesis of CME based on vasogenic mechanisms is first discussed in this review, including vascular hyperpermeability, leukostasis, and inflammation. We then describe cytotoxic mechanisms based on retinal Müller cell dysfunction.
