1Solar activity effects of the ionosphere: A brief review显示文摘Solar radiation, which varies over multiple temporal scales, modulates remarkably the evolution of the ionosphere. The solar activity dependence of the ionosphere is a key and fundamental issue in ionospheric physics, providing information essential to understanding the variations in the ionosphere and its processes. Selected recent studies on solar activity effects of the ionosphere are briefly reviewed in this report. This report focuses on (1) observations of solar irradiance at X-ray and extreme ultraviolet wavelengths and the outstanding problems of solar proxies, in the view of ionospheric studies, (2) new findings and improved representations of the features of the solar activity dependence of ionospheric key parameters and the corresponding physical processes, (3) possible phenomena in the ionosphere under extremely high and low solar activity conditions that are unique, as indicated by historical solar datasets and the deep solar minimum of solar cycle 23/24, and (4) statistical studies and model simulations of the ionosphere response to solar flares. 2Genetic pattern of belt-wide petroliferous phenomenon in the eastern Pearl River Mouth Basin and its practical application显示文摘The Pearl River Mouth Basin(PRMB) covers an area of approximately 20×104 km2. However, oil-gas fields detected in this area thus far are highly concentrated and controlled predominantly by second-order structural belts, the seven largest of which aggregate proved oil reserves of 7.7×108 m3, accounting for 86% of the total discovered reserve in the basin. These second-order structures have one common phenomenon: oil is contained in all traps present in them. In other words, they are all belt-wide petroliferous reservoirs. Research has identified eight types of second-order structural belts under two categories in the eastern PRMB. Their petroliferous properties are subject to three typical constraints: petroliferous properties of subsags hosting these structural belts, locations of these belts in the petroleum system, and availability of traps prior to the hydrocarbon expulsion and migration. The formation and distribution of oil reservoirs in these belts are characterized by subsag–belt integration and 'three-in-one'. The former indicates that sags and the second-order structural belts within the supply range of the sags constitute the basic units of hydrocarbon accumulations and are therefore inseparable. 3Development of a middle and low latitude theoretical ionospheric model and an observation system data assimilation experiment显示文摘On the basis of previous work, we develop a middle and low latitude theoretical ionospheric model in this paper, named Theoretical Ionospheric Model of the Earth in the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIME-IGGCAS). TIME-IGGCAS solves the equations of mass continuity, motion and energy of electron and ions self-consistently and uses an eccentric dipole field approxima-tion to the Earth’s magnetic field. We combine the Eulerian and Lagrangian approaches in the model and take account of the plasma E×B drift velocity. Calculation results reveal that the model is steady and credible and can reproduce most large-scale features of ionosphere. By using TIME-IGGCAS, we carried out an observation system data assimilation experiment. Assimilation results show that the E×B drift velocity can be accurately estimated by ingesting the observed foF2 and hmF2 into the model ap-plying nonlinear least-square fit method. 4Facile grafting strategy synthesis of single-atom electrocatalyst with enhanced ORR performance显示文摘Single-atom catalysts(SACs)have become one of the most considered research directions today,owing to their maximum atom utilization and simple structures,to investigate structure-activity relationships.In the field of non-precious-metal electrocatalysts,atomically dispersed Fe-N4 active sites have been proven to possess the best oxygen reduction activity.Yet the majority of preparation methods remains complex and costly with unsatisfying controllability.Herein,we have designed a surface-grafting strategy to directly synthesize an atomically dispersed Fe-NVC electrocatalyst applied to the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).Through an esterification process in organic solution,metal-containing precursors were anchored on the surface of carbon substrates.The covalent bonding effect could suppress the formation of aggregated particles during heat treatment.Melamine was further introduced as both a cost-effective nitrogen resource and blocking agent retarding the migration of metal atoms.The optimized catalyst has proven to have abundant atomically dispersed Fe-N4 active sites with enhanced ORR catalytic performance in acid condition.This method has provided new feasible ideas for the synthesis of SACs.Rui Ding Yide Liu Zhiyan Rui Jia Li Jianguo Liu Zhigang Zou 2020Nano Research2020,13,6:6
5Growing vertical aligned mesoporous silica thin film on nanoporous substrate for enhanced degradation,drug delivery and bioactivity显示文摘Mesoporous silica thin film has been widely used in various fields,particularly the medical implant coating for drug delivery.However,some drawbacks remain with the films produced by traditional method(evaporation-induced self-assembly,EISA),such as the poor permeability caused by their horizontal aligned mesochannels.In this study,the vertical aligned mesoporous silica thin film(VMSTF)is uniformly grown alongside the walls of titania nanotubes array via a biphase stratification growth method,resulting in a hierarchical two-layered nanotubular structure.Due to the exposure of opened mesopores,VMSTF exhibits more appealing performances,including rapid degradation,efficient small-molecular drug(dexamethasone)loading and release,enhanced early adhesion and osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells.This is the first time successfully depositing VMSTF on nanoporous substrate and our findings suggest that the VMSTF may be a promising candidate for bone implant surface coating to obtain bioactive performances.Zhe Li Yide He Lasse Hyldgaard Klausen Ning Yan Jing Liu Fanghao Chen Wen Song Mingdong Dong Yumei Zhang 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,5:4
6Empirical modeling of ionospheric F2 layer critical frequency over Wakkanai under geomagnetic quiet and disturbed conditions显示文摘The hourly values of the ionospheric F2 layer critical frequency, foF2, recorded at Wakkanai ionosonde station (45.4°N, 141.7°E) have been collected to construct a middle-latitude single-station model for forecasting foF2 under geomagnetic quiet and disturbed conditions. The module for the geomagnetic quiet conditions incorporates local time, seasonal, and solar variability of climatological foF2 and its upper and lower quartiles. It is the first attempt to predict the upper and lower quartiles of foF2 to account for the notable day-to-day variability in ionospheric foF2. The validation statistically verifies that the model captures the climatological variations of foF2 with higher accuracy than IRI does. The storm-time module is built to capture the geomagnetic storm induced relative deviations of foF2 from the quiet time references. In the geomagnetically disturbed module, the storm-induced deviations are described by diurnal and semidiurnal waves, which are modulated by a modified magnetic activity index, the Kf index, reflecting the delayed responses of foF2 to geomagnetic activity forcing. The coefficients of the model in each month are determined by fitting the model formula to the observation in a least-squares way. We provide two options for the geomagnetic disturbed module, including or not including Kalman filter algorithm. The Kalman filter algorithm is introduced to optimize these coefficients in real time. Our results demonstrate that the introduction of the Kalman filter algorithm in the storm time module is promising for improving the accuracy of predication. 7Characteristics of typhoon disturbed gaps in an old-growth tropical montane rainforest in Hainan Island, China显示文摘Disturbances that create gaps can shape the structure and function of forests. However, such disturbance regimes in Asian tropical montane rainforests remain largely unquantified. Least studied are typhoon disturbances that are attributable to climate change. We investigated gap characteristics in terms of size, age, and gapmaker to quantify the gap disturbance regimes in an intact old-growth tropical montane rainforest on Hainan Island,China. The intensity of typhoons has increased since 1949,and typhoon winds blow mostly(45.5%) from the northeast corner of Hainan Island, resulting in a higher frequency of gaps in the northeast. A total of 221 gap-makers(trees that fell to create canopy gaps) and 53 gaps were observed in a 3.16 ha old-growth rainforest. Most canopy gaps(85%)were <200 m^2. The average size of canopy gaps was smaller in the rainforest than in other tropical forests, while the average size of expanded gaps was similar to those in other tropical forests. The maximum age of gaps was 23.5 years indicating that gaps had more rapid turnover than other parts of tropical forests. The frequency distribution of gap-makers followed a lognormal distribution with a distinctive peak at three gap-makers, which was different from the inverse J-shaped curve typical of other tropical forests. Gaps were recorded mainly on slopes between 20° and 35° and wood density of gap-makers was between 0.6 and 0.7 g cm^(-3). 9Development of a widely targeted volatilomics method for profiling volatilomes in plants显示文摘Volatile organic compounds play essential roles in plant environment interactions as well as determining the fragrance of plants.Although gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-based untargeted metabolo-mics is commonly used to assess plant volatiles,it suffers from high spectral convolution,low detection sensitivity,a limited number of annotated metabolites,and relatively poor reproducibility.Here,we report a widely targeted volatilomics(WTV)method that involves using a“targeted spectra extraction”algorithm to address spectral convolution,constructing a high-coverage MS2 spectral tag library to expand volatile annotation,adapting a multiple reaction monitoring mode to improve sensitivity,and using regression models to adjust for signal drift.The newly developed method was used to profile the volatilome of rice grains.Compared with the untargeted method,the newly developed WTV method shows higher sensitivity(for example,the signal-to-noise ratio of guaicol increased from 4.1 to 18.8),high annotation coverage(the number of annotated volatiles increased from 43 to 132),and better reproducibility(the number of volatiles in quality control samples with relative standard deviation value below 30.0%increased from 14 to 92 after normalization).Using the WTV method,we studied the metabolic responses of tomato to environmental stimuli and profiled the volatilomes of different rice accessions.The results identified benzothiazole as a potential airborne signal priming tomato plants for enhanced defense and 2-nonanone and 2-heptanone as novel aromatic compounds contributing to rice fragrance.These case studies suggest that the widely targeted volatilomics method is more efficient than those currently used and may considerably promote plant volatilomics studies.Honglun Yuan Guangping Cao Xiaodong Hou Menglan Huang Pengmeng Du Tingting Tan Youjin Zhang Haihong Zhou Xianqing Liu Ling Liu Yiding Jiangfang Yufei Li Zhenhuan Liu Chuanying Fang Liqing Zhao Alisdair R.Fernie Jie Luo 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,1:2
10Nighttime electron density enhancements at middle and low latitudes in East Asia显示文摘Nighttime enhancements in ionospheric electron density at mid- and low-latitudes are investigated by using the critical frequency of the F2-layer(fo F2) data measured from ionosonde stations at Okinawa(26.3°N, 127.8°E, Geomagnetic 15.3°N), Yamagawa(31.2°N, 130.6°E, Geomagnetic 20.4°N), Kokubunji(35.7°N, 139.5°E, Geomagnetic 25.5°N), and Wakkanai(45.4°N, 141.7°E, Geomagnetic 35.4°N) in East Asia during several solar cycles. The results show that there are obvious seasonal and solar activity dependencies of the nighttime electron density enhancements. The enhancements are termed pre-midnight enhancement and post-midnight enhancement, according to the local time when the enhancement appeared. The former has a higher occurrence probability in summer months than in winter months. In contrast, the latter has a larger occurrence probability in winter months than in summer months. Moreover, the nighttime enhancements in electron density are more likely to occur at lower solar activity. 11Interannual Variability and Scenarios Projection of Sea Ice in Bohai Sea Part Ⅰ: Variation Characteristics and Interannual Hindcast显示文摘The Bohai Sea is one of the southernmost areas for sea ice formation in the northern hemisphere.Sea ice disasters in this body of water severely affect marine activities and the safety of coastal residents.In this study,we analyze the variation characteristics of the sea ice in the Bohai Sea and establish an annual regression model based on predictable mode analysis method.The results show the following:1)From 1970 to 2018,the average ice grade is(2.6±0.8),with a maximum of 4.5 and a minimum of 1.0.Liaodong Bay(LDB)has the heaviest ice conditions in the Bohai Sea,followed by Bohai Bay(BHB)and Laizhou Bay(LZB).Interannual variation is obvious in all three bays,but the linear decreasing trend is significant only in BHB.2)Three modes are obtained from empirical orthogonal function analysis,namely,single polarity mode with the same sign of anomaly in all of the three bays and strong interannual variability(82.0%),the north–south dipole mode with BHB and LZB showing an opposite sign of anomalies to that in LDB and strong decadal variations(14.5%),and a linear trend mode(3.5%).Critical factors are analyzed and regression equations are established for all the principal components,and then an annual hindcast model is established by synthesizing the results of the three modes.This model provides an annual spatial prediction of the sea ice in the Bohai Sea for the first time,and meets the demand of operational sea ice forecasting.JIAO Yan HUANG Fei LIU Qingrong LI Ge LI Yaru YU Qingxi ZHAO Yiding 2020Journal of Ocean University of China2020,19,2:2

13High proportion strontium-doped micro-arc oxidation coatings enhance early osseointegration of titanium in osteoporosis by anti-oxidative stress pathway显示文摘The excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species(ROS)under osteoporosis precipitates a microenvironment with high levels of oxidative stress(OS).This could significantly interfere with the bioactivity of conventional titanium implants,impeding their early osseointegration with bone.We have prepared a series of strontium(Sr)-doped titanium implants via micro-arc oxidation(MAO)to verify their efficacy and differences in osteoinduction capabilities under normal and osteoporotic(high OS levels)conditions.Apart from the chemical composition,all groups exhibited similar physicochemical properties(morphology,roughness,crystal structure,and wettability).Among the groups,the low Sr group(Sr25%)was more conducive to osteogenesis under normal conditions.In contrast,by increasing the catalase(CAT)/superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity and decreasing ROS levels,the high Sr-doped samples(Sr75% and Sr100%)were superior to Sr25% in inducing osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells and the M2 phenotype polarization of RAW264.7 cells,thus enhancing early osseointegration.Furthermore,the results of both in vitro cell co-culture and in vivo studies also showed that the high Sr-doped samples(especially Sr100%)had positive effects on osteoimmunomodulation under the OS microenvironment.Ultimately,the collated findings indicated that the high proportion Sr-doped MAO coatings were more favorable for osteoporosis patients in implant restorations.Xinkun Shen Kai Fang Kendrick Hii Ru Yie Zixin Zhou Yiding Shen Shuyi Wu Yue Zhu Zhennan Deng Pingping Ma Jianfeng Ma Jinsong Liu 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,4:2

15Smart ZnS@C filler for super-anticorrosive self-healing zinc-rich epoxy coating显示文摘The zinc-rich epoxy cathodic protection coating is the most widely used anticorrosion material for marine steel.However,traditional conductive fillers lack the intelligent self-healing effect,which limits the long-term anticorrosion performance.Herein,with uniform carbon-coated ZnS(ZnS@C)nanoballs as the smart active release filler,we propose an anticorrosive and self-healing zinc-rich maleic anhydride epoxy coating.Due to the high pore filling efficiency of the nanoballs,the water vapor transmission rate of the coating with an initial corrosion efficiency of 99.92%and a low-frequency impedance of|Z|f=10mHz=3.88×10^(10) Ω·cm^(2),was reduced by 52%.The carbon-shell of the nanoball increases electron transmission paths in the coating and improves conductivity by nearly two orders of magnitude,which effectively activates more Zn-sites and extends the cathodic protection time.Moreover,once the steel-substrate undergoes regional corrosion,the SO_(4)^(2-)hydrolyzes from the ZnS-core of the nanoball and reacts with iron ions on the corroded area accurately and intelligently to fill the gap and self-heals into a new dense barrier layer(Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3),etc.),which significantly improves the shielding protection ability during the long-term usage of the coating.The effective anticorrosion time of the proposed coating could be up to 3,400 h.Kai Yang Yixue Duan Guicheng Liu Guoyan Ma Hao Fu Xuyong Chen Manxiang Wang Gangqiang Zhu Woochul Yang Yiding Shen 2022Nano Research2022,15,5:1

19Responses of soil CH_(4) fluxes to nitrogen addition in two tropical montane rainforests in southern China显示文摘Background:Atmospheric nitrogen(N)deposition is projected to increase in the next few decades,which may have a marked impact on soil-atmosphere CH_(4) fluxes.However,the impacts of increased atmospheric N depositions on soil CH_(4) flux in tropical rainforests are still poorly understood.From January 2015 to December 2018,a field experiment was conducted in a primary tropical montane rainforest(PTMR)and a secondary tropical montane rainforest(STMR)in southern China to quantify the impact of N additions at four levels(N0:0 kg N⋅ha^(-1)⋅year^(-1);N25:25 kg N⋅ha^(-1)⋅year^(-1);N50:50 kg N⋅ha^(-1)⋅year^(-1);N100:100 kg N⋅ha^(-1)⋅year^(-1)on soil CH_(4) flux.Results:Four years of measurements showed clear seasonal variations in CH_(4) flux in all treatment plots for both forest types(PTMR and STMR),with lower rates of soil CH_(4) uptake during the wet season and higher rates of soil CH_(4) uptake during the dry season.Soil CH_(4) uptake rates were significantly and negatively correlated with both soil temperature and soil moisture for both forest types.Annual CH_(4) uptake for the N0 plots from the PTMR and STMR soils were2.20 and1.98 kg N⋅ha^(-1)⋅year^(-1),respectively.At the PTMR site,mean CH_(4) uptake compared with the N0 treatment was reduced by 19%,29%,and 36%for the N25,N50,and N100 treatments,respectively.At the STMR site,mean CH_(4) uptake compared with the N0 treatment was reduced by 15%,18%,and 38%for the N25,N50,and N100 treatments,respectively.High level N addition had a stronger inhibitory impact on soil CH_(4) uptake than did the low level N addition.Conclusion:Our data suggest that soil CH_(4) uptake in tropical rainforests is sensitive to N deposition.If atmospheric N deposition continues to increase in the future,the soil CH_(4) sink strength of tropical rainforests may weaken further.Fangtao Wu Changhui Peng Chuanyao Wang Huai Chen Weiguo Liu Zhihao Liu Hui Wang Hong Li Dexiang Chen Yide Li Shirong Liu 2022Forest Ecosystems2022,9,3:1
