The Upper Devonian orbital cyclostratigraphy and numerical dating conodont zones from Guangxi,South China显示文摘The hierarchically organized laminae, bundles, bundlesets and superbundlesets which correspond to a sub-Milankovitch, obliquity or precession, eccentricity and long eccentricity cyclothems, respectively, have been distinguished from the Upper Devonian Frasnian-Famennian (F-F) transitional carbonate successions deposited in the carbonate-basin and slope facies of Guangxi, South China. The durations of cyclothems are 8000-10000a, 16667a or 33333a, 100000a and 400000a, respectively. The ratio of eccentricity to precession, eccentricity to obliquity, and long eccentricity to eccentricity is 1:6,1:3 and 1 : 4 in the Devonian, respectively. Orbital cyclostratigraphical studies show that the durations of the conodont falsiovalis Zone, transitans Zone, punctata Zone, Lower hassi Zone, Upper hassi Zone, jamieae Zone,Lower rhenana Zone, Upper rhenana Zone, linguiformis Zone, Lower triangularis Zone, Middle triangularis Zone and Upper triangularis Zone are 0.4, 0.4, 0.4, 0.3, 0.4, 0.2, 0.8, 0.6, 0.8, 0.3, 0.3and 0.3 Ma from bottom to top, respectively, and the duration of the Frasnian is 4.3 Ma. The conodont is the normal marine organism of the latest mass extinction (the latest linguiformis Zone)and the first recovery (including the whole Lower triangularis and Middle triangularis Zone) in the F-F transition. The conodont mass extinction and recovery lasted 200000-100000a and 0.6 Ma,respectively. We consider that average durations of the fossil zones calculated by reported numerical ages divided by fossil zone numbers within a stage or series or system cannot discovery complications and non-uniformity of evolutionary organisms and environments.GONG Yiming, XU Ran, TANG Zhongdao & LI Baohua Faculty of Earth Science, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074, China Laboratory of Marine Geology, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China 2005Science China Earth Sciences2005,48,1:14
Late Devonian red tide and mass extinction显示文摘Molecular stratigraphical, carbonate carbon isotopic, stratigraphical and paleontological data show that algal booming, eutrophication, anoxia, hypersalinity, positive δ13C excursion and biomass decreasing occurred in the offshore carbonate environments of the Frasnian-Famennian (F-F) transition, which hints that red tide might frequently take place in the F-F transition of Guangxi, South China. We suggest that the mass extinction of the reef ecosystems and the shallow-water marine organisms in the F-F transition of the lower-middle latitudes may be related to the frequent occurrence of red tide in that time.GONG Yiming LI Baohua SI Yuanlan WU Yi 2002Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,13:14

Hydrothermal activities and seawater acidification in the Late Devonian F-F transition:Evidence from geochemistry of rare earth elements显示文摘Rare-earth elements(REE) in limestones were measured by ICP-MS from the Yangdi section across the Frasnian-Famennian(F-F) transition in Guilin,Guangxi of South China. The averageΣREE contents of measured samples are 33.32 ppm.The average LREE/HREE ratio is 6.35.Data show LREE-enriched REE distribution pattern in the Yangdi section. Most of samples are characterized by positive Eu anomaly with average of 1.13,and there are two maxima of Eu anomaly just below the F-F boundary.Almost all analytical samples show obvious tetrad effects.Remarkable M-shaped tetrad effects are observed in these samples with positive Eu anomaly. The characters of REE and some relative elements(Fe,Mn,Al,etc.) indicate that hydrothermal activities occurred and resulted in seawater acidification in Upper and Lower Kellwasser horizons of the Late Devonian. The changes of marine environment caused by hydrothermal activities, such as seawater acidification, heavy metal pollution, and eutrophication, would destroy the neritic ecosystem and finally result in the F-F mass extinction.ZENG JianWei XU Ran GONG YiMing 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,4:11
Osteoarthritis:pathogenic signaling pathways and therapeutic targets显示文摘Osteoarthritis(OA)is a chronic degenerative joint disorder that leads to disability and affects more than 500 million population worldwide.OA was believed to be caused by the wearing and tearing of articular cartilage, but it is now more commonly referred to as a chronic whole-joint disorder that is initiated with biochemical and cellular alterations in the synovial joint tissues, which leads to the histological and structural changes of the joint and ends up with the whole tissue dysfunction.Currently, there is no cure for OA,partly due to a lack of comprehensive understanding of the pathological mechanism of the initiation and progression of the disease. Therefore,a better understanding of pathological signaling pathways and key molecules involved in OA pathogenesis is crucial for therapeutic target design and drug development. In this review,we first summarize the epidemiology of OA,including its prevalence, incidence and burdens, and OA risk factors. We then focus on the roles and regulation of the pathological signaling pathways, such as Wnt/β-catenin,NF-κB,focal adhesion,HIFs,TGFβ/ΒΜP and FGF signaling pathways, and key regulators AMPK,mTOR,and RUNX2 in the onset and development of OA.In addition, the roles of factors associated with OA,including MMPs,ADAMTS/ADAMs,and PRG4,are discussed in detail. Finally,we provide updates on the current clinical therapies and clinical trials of biological treatments and drugs for OA.Research advances in basic knowledge of articular cartilage biology and OA pathogenesis will have a significant impact and translational value in developing OA therapeutic strategies.Qing Yao Xiaohao Wu Chu Tao Weiyuan Gong Mingjue Chen Minghao Qu Yiming Zhong Tailin He Sheng Chen Guozhi Xiao 2023Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,3:11
Geomicrobial functional groups:A window on the interaction between life and environments显示文摘Microbes are well-known for their great diversity and abundance in modern natural environments. They also are believed to pro-vide critical links among higher organisms and their associated environments. However, the low diversity of morphological fea-tures and structures of ancient microbes preserved in sediments and rocks make them difficult to identify and classify. This diffi-culty greatly hinders the investigation of geomicrobes throughout Earth history. Thus, most previous paleontological studies have focused on faunal and floral fossils. Here, geomicrobial functional groups(GFGs),or a collection of microbes featured in specific ecological, physiological or biogeochemical functions, are suggested to provide a way to overcome the difficulties of ancient mi-crobe investigations.GFGs are known for their great diversity in ecological, physiological and biogeochemical functions. In addi-tion,GFGs may be preserved as the biogeochemical, mineralogical and sedimentological records in sediments and rocks. We reviewed the functions, origins and identification diagnostics of some important GFGs involved in the elemental cycles of carbon, sulfur, nitrogen and iron.GFGs were further discussed with respect to their significant impacts on paleoclimate, sulfur chemistry of ancient seawater, nutritional status of geological environments, and the deposition of Precambrian banded iron formations.XIE ShuCheng YANG Huan LUO GenMing HUANG XianYu LIU Deng WANG YongBiao GONG YiMing XU Rana 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,1:11
The discovery of early Permian reef belt in east Kunlun and its significance显示文摘The early permian reef belt is distributed in the southern side of eastern Kunlun, north area of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The core-reef facies of the reef extends from Tuosuo Lake to Huashixia. Lots of reef breccia was found at the southern slope of the core-reef belt, and to the north of the reef belt there is back-reef limestone. Cacisponges, hydrozoa, bryozoa, Tabulozoa, Tubiphytes and red algae are the main frame-building organisms. Archaeolithoporella, laminated blue-green algaes, Tabulozoa and Tubiphytes played a role of binding or encrustating. There are many kinds of epibiont in the reef, including brachiopod, gasteropod, foraminifera, echinoderm and simple coral. The type and the characteristics of the reef-building organisms in eastern Kunlun and Animaqing are basically the same as those in the south ofWang Yongbiao Zhang Kexing Gong Yiming Zhang Zhi Luo Mansheng 1998Chinese Science Bulletin1998,43,11:10
Devonian Sea-Level Change Rhythms in South China and Coupling Relationships Among the Earth-spheres显示文摘Twenty orthosequences and their corresponding sea-level change (SLC) cycles have been recognized in the Devonian overlying the Caledonian unconformity, of which 9, 5.5 and 5.5 occurred in the Lower, Middle and Upper Devonian respectively. They can be grouped into 4 orthosequence sets, in which the maximum flooding surfaces lie in the sulcutus Zone (D12), perbonus Zone (D13), Middle and Upper varcus Zone (D22) and gigas Zone (D21) respectively. Four instant palaeogeographical reconstructions of South China have been made in the Emsian and Givetian. Devonian sea-level change rhythms of South China can be divided into 3 categories: the autorhythmic, the worldwide and regional allorhythmic, and the coupling-rhythmic. They developed respectively in the Famennian, Pragian, Eifelian, Lochkovian, Emsian, Givetian, Frasnian and the F / F (between the Frasnian and Famennian) event. 9MdATG18a overexpression improves basal thermotolerance in transgenic apple by decreasing damage to chloroplasts显示文摘High temperature is an abiotic stress factor that threatens plant growth and development.Autophagy in response to heat stress involves the selective removal of heat-induced protein complexes.Previously,we showed that a crucial autophagy protein from apple,MdATG18a,has a positive effect on drought tolerance. In the present study,we treated transgenic apple(Malus domestica)plants overexpressing MdATG18a with high temperature and found that autophagy protected them from heat stress.Overexpression of MdATG18a in apple enhanced antioxidase activity and contributed to the production of increased beneficial antioxidants under heat stress.Transgenic apple plants exhibited higher photosynthetic capacity,as shown by the rate of CO_(2) assimilation, the maximum photochemical efficiency of photosystem II(PSII),the effective quantum yield, and the electron transport rates in photosystems I and II(PSI and PSII,respectively). We also detected elevated autophagic activity and reduced damage to chloroplasts in transgenic plants compared to WT plants. In addition, the transcriptional activities of several HSP genes were increased in transgenic apple plants. In summary,we propose that autophagy plays a critical role in basal thermotolerance in apple, primarily through a combination of enhanced antioxidant activity and reduced chloroplast damage.Liuqing Huo Xun Sun Zijian Guo Xin Jia Runmin Che Yiming Sun Yanfei Zhu Ping Wang Xiaoqing Gong Fengwang Ma 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:9
Devonian Frasnian-Famennian transitional event deposits of Guangxi, South China and their possible tsunami origin显示文摘A suite of event deposits, isochronous and interrelated in origin, occurs widely near the Frasnian- Famennian boundary in Guangxi, South China. It is mainly distributed in the facies areas of the platform-margin slope and inter-platform rift-trough. The rudstone or calcirudite occur in the Liujing section of Hengxian and Luoxiu and Baqi sections of Xiangzhou in the facies area of platform-margin slope. The turbidites are observed in the sections of Yangdi and Baisha of Guilin, Du'an of Debao, Nandong and Sanli of Wuxuan, Xiangtian, Ma'anshan of Xiangzhou, Nayi of Chongzuo, Yunpan of Shanglin in the facies area of inter-platform rift-trough. The massive homogenites occur in sections of Mangchang, Luofu and Road from Nandan to Tian'e and Ma'anshan etc in the facies area of inter-platform rift-trough. Herein event deposits can be correlated in stratohorizon to the turbidite in the bottom of the Lower triangularis Zone in Hony railroad cut of Belgium, Devils Gate of Nevada, USA, Atrous of Morocco, South Urals and Fore-Kolyma of northeastern Siberia of Russia, and erosional discontinuities and brecciation in the Frasnian-Famennian boundary in South Polish-Moravian shelf. The event deposits could be caused by a violent tsunami related to bolide impacts into ocean.DU YuanSheng GONG YiMing ZENG XiongWei HUANG HongWei YANG JiangHai ZHANG Zhe HUANG ZhiQiang 2008Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,11:6
Microbial and molecular fossils from the Permian Zoophycos in South China显示文摘The trace fossil Zoophycos was enriched in the lower part of the Guadalupian Maokou Formation of Permian in Laibin, Guangxi of South China, and characterized by observable lamellae within its spreiten. Associated with these lamellae are the prolific coccus- and spirillum-shaped microbe fossils. These microbes morphologically identified are 0.4―3.0 μm in diameter or length. Molecular fossils, including normal alkanes (dominated by C18, without an odd-over-even predominance), acyclic isoprenoids (such as pristane (Pr) and phytane (Ph)), extended tricyclic terpanes, pentacyclic triterpanes, steranes, al-kylcyclohexanes, dibenzothiophenes, benzonaphthothiophenes, benzobisbenzothiophenes, were in-strumentally identified in the wackestone characterized by the occurrence of abundant Zoophycos (composite ichnofabric indices are 4) and crowded microbial fossils. The value of the Pr/Ph ratio is less than 1, indicative of a dysoxic condition. The identification of abundant sulfur compounds (the thio-phene series) related to the contribution of reductive sulfur favors the occurrence of sulphate-reducing bacteria. The association of abundant microbial colonies with microbial molecular fossils within the spreiten suggests that trace fossils Zoophycos would be a multifunctional garden carefully constructed by the Zoophycos-producer, where different microbial colonies were orderly and carefully planted and cultured in different minor lamellae within spreiten. Hence, it is proposed that the Zoophycos-producer symbiosed with microbial colonies on the mutual basis of food supply and the redox conditions.GONG YiMing XU Ran XIE ShuCheng HUANG XianYu HU Bin QI YongAn ZHANG GuoCheng 2007Science China Earth Sciences2007,50,8:6

Ordovician radiolarians from the Yinisala ophiolitic melange and their significance in western Junggar, Xinjiang, NW China显示文摘The Yinisala ophiolitic mélange is located in the southern part of the Xiemisitai Mountains in western Junggar(NW China), and is composed of mafic-ultra mafic rocks, siliceous blocks, marble(marbleized limestone) and pyroclastic rocks, which all crop out as faulted blocks. Rich radiolarian and sponge spicule fossils are found in the siliceous rock for the first time. There are six genera of radiolarians(including one gen. et sp. Indet.) belonging to two families: Inaniguttid gen. et sp. Indet., Inanigutta sp., Inanibigutta sp., Inanihella bakanasensis(Nazarov), Triplococcus acanthicus(Danelian and Popov), Antygopora sp., which are identified to be of late Early to Middle Ordovician age, representing the upper limit of the formation age of the Yinisala ophiolite mélange. The ophiolites were developed in the Early Cambrian-Middle Ordovician oceanic environment, probably an important part of the early Paleozoic Paleo-Asian Ocean, based on the composition and structure of the siliceous rock and associated deep-water fossils. The Yinisala, Taerbahatai, and Hongguleleng ophiolitic mélange belts can be correlated as a suite of unified subduction accretionary complex, which extends eastward to the eastern Junggar. 14Devonian Frasnian-Famennian Transitional Milankovitch Cycles and High-Resolution Stratigraphic Correlation显示文摘Four hierarchical cyclothems, superbundlesets, bundlesets, bundles and laminae, have been identified from the Devonian Frasnian-Famennian carbonate strata in Guangxi, South China. Their hierarchical structures, ratio relation ships and sequence in conodont zones are continuous and stable and can be traced across different facies zones and sedi mentary basins. Our data show that hierarchically organized superbundlesets, bundlesets, bundles and laminae correspond to the long eccentricity, eccentricity, obliquity or precession and sub-Milankovitch cycles respectively. Their periods were 400,000, 100,000, 33,333, 16,667 and 8,000-17,000 a, respectively. The ratios of long eccentricity to eccentricity, ec centricity to obliquity, and eccentricity to precession in the Devonian are 1:4, 1:3 and 1:6 respectively. Using these hier archical Milankovitch cyclothems, chronostratigraphical division and correlation can be realized at a resolution of 100 ka or 10 ka at the Frasnian-Famennian transition. The time intervals of the Upper rhenana Zone, linguiformis Zone, and the Lower, Middle and Upper triangularis Zone are 0.6, 0.8, 0.3, 0.3 and 0.3 Ma, respectively. Sea-level changes of the Frasnian-Famennian transition were not coherent and synchronous at the resolution of 100 ka or 10 ka in the basin-slope carbonate sequences of Guangxi, South China.GONG Yiming Faculty of Earth Science, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, 430074LI Baohua Laboratory of Marine Geology, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092and WU Yi Guangxi Institute of Geology, Nanning 530023 2001Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2001,75,4:3
Devonian Sequence Stratigraphy and Sea Level Change Cycles in South China显示文摘The Devonian is well developed in South China and has drawn a great attention from the geologists both at domestic and abroad. On the basis of study on the sequence stratigraphy in more than 10 sections in Guizhou, Guangxi, Longmenshan and Southern Qinling within South China we have identified 21 sequences and T-R cycles that correspond to third-order sea level changes. These sea level change cycles were controlled by autorhythm(Pragian,Eifelian), allorhythm(Lochkovian,Emsian,Givetian) and coupling rhythm mechanisms (frasian, Famennian and F-F boundary).Du Yuansheng Gong Yiming (Faculty of Earth Sciences, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074) Wu Yi (Guangxi Institute of Geology, Nanning 530023) Liu Benpei Feng Qinglai (Faculty of Earth Sciences, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074) 1996Journal of Earth Science1996,15,1:3
GSH-sensitive polymeric prodrug: Synthesis and loading with photosensitizers as nanoscale chemo-photodynamic anti-cancer nanomedicine显示文摘Precisely delivering combinational therapeutic agents has become a crucial challenge for anti-tumor treatment. In this study, a novel redox-responsive polymeric prodrug(molecular weight,MW: 93.5 k Da) was produced by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer(RAFT) polymerization. The amphiphilic block polymer-doxorubicin(DOX) prodrug was employed to deliver a hydrophobic photosensitizer(PS), chlorin e6(Ce6), and the as-prepared nanoscale system [NPs(Ce6)] was investigated as a chemo-photodynamic anti-cancer agent. The glutathione(GSH)-cleavable disulfide bond was inserted into the backbone of the polymer for biodegradation inside tumor cells, and DOX conjugated onto the polymer with a disulfide bond was successfully released intracellularly. NPs(Ce6) released DOX and Ce6 with their original molecular structures and degraded into segments with low MWs of 41.2 k Da in the presence of GSH. NPs(Ce6) showed a chemo-photodynamic therapeutic effect to kill 4 T1 murine breast cancer cells, which was confirmed from a collapsed cell morphology, a lifted level in the intracellular reactive oxygen species, a reduced viability and induced apoptosis. Moreover, ex vivo fluorescence images indicated that NPs(Ce6) retained in the tumor, and exhibited a remarkable in vivo anticancer efficacy. The combinational therapy showed a significantly increased tumor growth inhibition(TGI,58.53%). Therefore, the redox-responsive, amphiphilic block polymeric prodrug could have a great potential as a chemo-photodynamic anti-cancer agent.Lei Luo Yiming Qi Hong Zhong Shinan Jiang Hu Zhang Hao Cai Yahui Wu Zhongwei Gu Qiyong Gong Kui Luo 2022Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,1:3
Effects of sterilization treatments on the analysis of TOC in water samples显示文摘Decomposition experiments conducted with and without microbial processes are commonly used to study the effects of environmental microorganisms on the degradation of organic pollutants. However, the effects of biological pretreatment (sterilization) on organic matter often have a negative impact on such experiments.Based on the principle of water total organic carbon (TOC) analysis, the effects of physical sterilization treatments on determination of TOC and other water quality parameters were investigated. The results revealed that two conventional physical sterilization treatments, autoclaving and 60 Co γ-radiation sterilization, led to the direct decomposition of some organic pollutants, resulting in remarkable errors in the analysis of TOC in water samples.Furthermore, the extent of the errors varied with the intensity and the duration of sterilization treatments.Accordingly,a novel sterilization method for water samples,0.45 μm micro-filtration coupled with ultraviolet radiation (MCUR),was developed in the present study. The results indicated that the MCUR method was capable of exerting a high bactericidal effect on the water sample while significantly decreasing the negative impact on the analysis of TOC and other water quality parameters. Before and after sterilization treatments, the relative errors of TOC determination could be controlled to lower than 3% for water samples with different categories and concentrations of organic pollutants by using MCUR.Yiming Shi Lingfeng Xu Dongqin Gong Jun Lu 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,5:3
Coupling relationships between brachiopods and Girvanella during the Late Devonian F-F transition in Guilin, South China显示文摘The abundance curves derived from area proportions of brachiopods and Girvanella in the thin sections from the Yangdi section, South China, exhibits complex relationships during the Late Devonian Frasnian-Famennian transition. The living activity of brachiopods such as grazing and borrowing did great damage to the growth of Girvanella. However, there was more to just a mere a survival competing relationship between them, Girvanella actually improved marine environments by oxygenating the dysoxic ambient sea-water through photosynthesis in the lower Kellwasser Horizon. Profited from this improvement brachiopods' abundance increased subsequently and suppressed Girvanella again. Nonetheless, without Girvanella's photosynthesis, brachiopods were wiped out by the farther anoxic environments in the upper Kellwasser Horizon. The complex relationships between Girvanella and brachiopods may be a key to unlocking the relationships between geomicrobes and metazoans in the geological overturn periods.XU Ran GONG YiMing ZENG JianWei 2008Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,11:2
A mathematical modeling study of the HIV epidemics at two rural townships in the Liangshan Prefecture of the Sichuan Province of China显示文摘Background:As a response to a severe HIV epidemic in the Liangshan Prefecture, one of the worst in China, population based HIV interventions, including two population-wide HIV screening, have been carried out since 2005 at two townships in a remote mountainous region of Liangshan. The objective of our mathematical modeling study is to assess the temporal dynamics of the HIV epidemic in the two townships based on the data collected in the study area during the period 2005e2010.Methods:A mathematical model was set up to describe the population dynamics of HIV transmission in study area. The model was calibrated by fitting it to the HIV testing and treatment data from 2005 to 2008.Validation of the model was done by comparing its predicted value of HIV prevalence in 2010 to the prevalence data obtained in the 2010 population wide HIV testing. The validated model was used to produce estimation of HIV incidence, prevalence and death. Results:Our model estimations show that population-based HIV interventions have significantly slowed down the rise of the HIV epidemic in the two townships.Over the five-year period from 2005 to 2010,the year-over-year rate of increase in HIV incidence, prevalence, and death has declined by 91.5%,28.7%,and 52.3%,respectively.Conclusion:Mathematical models, when integrated with epidemiological and surveillance data, can be an effective tool for predicting the temporal dynamics of HIV and assessing the impacts of HIV interventions.Zhimin Su Caiting Dong Ping Li Hongxia Deng Yuhan Gong Shiyong Zhong Min Wu Yuhua Ruan Guangming Qin Wen Yang Yiming Shao Michael Li 2016Infectious Disease Modelling2016,1,1:2
Treated dentin matrix induces odontogenic differentiation of dental pulp stem cells via regulation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling显示文摘Treated dentin matrix(TDM)is an ideal scaffold material containing multiple extracellular matrix factors. The canonical Wnt signaling pathway is necessary for tooth regeneration. Thus, this study investigated whether the TDM can promote the odontogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells(hDPSCs)and determined the potential role of Wnt/β-catenin signaling in this process.Different concentrations of TDM promoted the dental differentiation of the hDPSCs and meanwhile, the expression of GSK3βwas decreased.Of note, the expression of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway-related genes changed significantly in the context of TDM induction,as per RNA sequencing(RNA seq)data. In addition, the experiment showed that new dentin was visible in rat mandible cultured with TDM,and the thickness was significantly thicker than that of the control group. In addition, immunohistochemical staining showed lower GSK3βexpression in new dentin.Consistently, the GSK3βknockdown hDPSCs performed enhanced odotogenesis compared with the control groups.However,GSK3βoverexpressing could decrease odotogenesis of TDM-induced hDPSCs.These results were confirmed in immunodeficient mice and Wistar rats. These suggest that TDM promotes odontogenic differentiation of hDPSCs by directly targeting GSK3βand activating the canonical Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and provide a theoretical basis for tooth regeneration engineering.Sirui Liu Jingjing Sun Shuai Yuan Yanyu Yang Yuping Gong Ying Wang Runying Guo Xue Zhang Yiming Liu Hongyan Mi Meiyue Wang Mengzhe Liu Rui Li 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,1:2
