| 2 | On the Controllability of an Advection-diffusion Equation with Respect to the Diffusion Parameter:Asymptotic Analysis and Numerical Simulations显示文摘The advection-diffusion equation y_t~ε-εy_(xx)~ε+ M y_x~ε= 0,(x, t) ∈(0, 1) ×(0, T) is null controllable for any strictly positive values of the diffusion coefficient ε and of the controllability time T. We discuss here the behavior of the cost of control when the coefficient ε goes to zero, according to the values of T. It is actually known that this cost is uniformly bounded with respect to ε if T is greater than a minimal time T_M, with T_M in the interval [1, 2×3^(1/2)]/M for M > 0 and in the interval [2×2^(1/2), 2(1 +3^(1/2))]/|M | for M < 0. The exact value of TM is however unknown.We investigate in this work the determination of the minimal time T_M employing two distincts but complementary approaches. In a first one, we numerically estimate the cost of controllability, reformulated as the solution of a generalized eigenvalue problem for the underlying control operator, with respect to the parameter T and ε. This allows notably to exhibit the structure of initial data leading to large costs of control. At the practical level, this evaluation requires the non trivial and challenging approximation of null controls for the advection-diffusion equation. In the second approach, we perform an asymptotic analysis, with respect to the parameter ε, of the optimality system associated to the control of minimal L^2-norm. | 4 | Effects of selenomethionine on acute toxicities from concurrent chemoradiation for inoperable stage Ⅲ nonsmall cell lung cancer显示文摘AIM: To prospectively determine the safety and tolerability of oral L-selenomethionine(SLM) with concurrent chemoradiation(CCRT) for Stage Ⅲ non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) and estimate if the incidence and/or severity of adverse events could be reduced by its use.METHODS: Sixteen patients with stage Ⅲ NSCLC were accrued to this single arm, phase Ⅱ study. CCRT consisted of radiation given at 2 Gy per fraction for 30-33 fractions, 5 d per week with concurrent weekly Ⅳ paclitaxel 50 mg/m2 followed by carboplatin dosed at an area under the time-concentration curve of 2. SLM was dosed in a loading phase at 4800 μg twice daily for one week prior to CCRT followed by once daily dosing during treatment. RESULTS: No selenium-related toxicity was observed. Analysis revealed grade 3 or higher esophagitis in 3 of 16 patients(19%), pneumonitis in 0, leukopenia in 2(12.5%), and anemia in 1(6%); the latter two were significantly reduced when compared to the protocolstated expected rate of 35%(P = 0.045 for leukopenia, and P < 0.01 for anemia). Median overall survival was 14.9 mo and median failure-free survival was 9 mo(95%CI: 3.3-21.5).CONCLUSION: There may be some protective benefit of selenium in the setting of CCRT for inoperable NSCLC. The data suggests decreased rates of myelosuppression when compared to similarly-treated historical and contemporary controls. | 5 | Mechanical and Metallurgical Characterization of HSLA X70Welded Pipeline Steel Subjected to Successive Repairs显示文摘The aim of this work is to study the influence of successive weld repairs on the microstructure and the mechanical behavior of the heat-affected zone(HAZ) of an HSLA X70 steel. Detailed microstructural examination combined to grain size measurement showed that beyond the second weld repair, the microstructure of the HAZ undergoes significant change in the grain morphology and grain growth. The results of the X-ray diffraction analyzed using MAUD software indicated an increase in the crystallite size and a decrease in the dislocation density according to the number of weld repair operations. Consequently, a loss of mechanical properties, namely the yield strength and the toughness with the number of weld repairs, was recorded. | 10 | Effect of the Inclination of Baffles on the Power Consumption and Fluid Flows in a Vessel Stirred by a Rushton Turbine显示文摘The role of baffles in mechanically stirred tanks is to promote the stability of power drawn by the impeller and to avoid the fluid swirling, thus enhancing mixing. The present paper numerically investigates the baffles effects in a vessel stirred by a Rushton turbine. The geometric factor of interest is the baffle inclination which is varying between 25°, 32.5°, 45°, 70° and 90° at different impeller rotational speeds. The impeller rotational direction has also been varied. The vortex size and power consumption were evaluated for each geometrical configuration. | 13 | Mobilization of CD34^+CD38^- hematopoietic stem cells after priming in acute myeloid leukemia显示文摘AIM: To evaluate quantitatively and qualitatively the different CD34+cell subsets after priming by chemotherapy granulocyte colony-stimulating factor(± G-CSF)in patients with acute myeloid leukemia.METHODS: Peripheral blood and bone marrow sampleswere harvested in 8 acute myeloid leukemia patients during and after induction chemotherapy. The CD34/CD38 cell profile was analyzed by multi-parameter flow cytometry. Adhesion profile was made using CXC chemokine receptor 4(CXCR4)(CD184), VLA-4(CD49d/CD29) and CD47.RESULTS: Chemotherapy ± G-CSF mobilized immature cells(CD34+CD38 population), while the more mature cells(CD34+CD38lowand CD34+CD38+populations) decreased progressively after treatment. Circulating CD34+cells tended to be more sensitive to chemotherapy after priming with G-CSF. CD34+cell mobilization was correlated with a gradual increase in CXCR4 and CD47expression, suggesting a role in cell protection and the capacity of homing back to the marrow.CONCLUSION: Chemotherapy ± G-CSF mobilizes into the circulation CD34+bone marrow cells, of which, the immature CD34+CD38-cell population.
