| 1 | Severity of ultrasonographic liver steatosis and metabolic syndrome in Korean men and women显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the association between the severity of liver steatosis and metabolic syndrome in apparently healthy Korean adults.METHODS: We examined 1 022 men and women, aged 30-79 years, who participated in a health screening test.A standard interview, anthropometrics, biochemical studies,and abdominal ultrasonography were conducted for each participant. Metabolic syndrome was defined according to the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel Ⅲ, with a modification for the waist circumference cut-off level. The severity of liver steatosis was evaluated using liver ultrasonography, and serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and γ-glutamyl transferase (γ-GT) levels were determined.RESULTS: Ultrasonographic liver steatosis was strongly associated with metabolic syndrome and common metabolic abnormalities. Compared with people without steatosis, people with mild, moderate, and severe steatosis had adjusted odds ratios for metabolic syndrome of 1.72(95%CI, 1.01-2.94), 2.89 (1.75-4.76) and 3.53 (1.25-9.98)in men, and 2.86 (1.64-5.01), 3.19 (1.80-5.65) and 3.70(0.82-16.73) in women, respectively. The serum AST level was not associated with metabolic syndrome. The serum ALT and γ-GT levels were significantly associated with metabolic syndrome in men but not in women.CONCLUSION: The occurrence of metabolic syndrome shows a stronger association with the severity of ultrasonographic steatosis than with the serum liver enzyme levels. | 2 | Association of low muscle strength with metabolic dysfunctionassociated fatty liver disease:A nationwide study显示文摘BACKGROUND There is limited evidence regarding the association between muscle strength and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD).AIM To investigate the association between muscle strength and MAFLD in the general population in Korea.METHODS This nationwide representative cross-sectional study included 31649 individuals aged≥19 years who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2015 and 2018.Odds ratios(ORs)and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs)for MAFLD according to sex-specific quartiles of muscle strength,defined by relative handgrip strength,were calculated using multivariable logistic regression analysis.Additionally,multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association between muscle strength and probable liver fibrosis in patients with MAFLD.RESULTS Of all the participants,29.3%had MAFLD.The prevalence of MAFLD was significantly higher in the lower muscle strength quartile groups for all participants,sexes,and age groups(P<0.001).A 1.92-fold(OR=1.92,95%CI:1.70–2.16)and 3.12-fold(OR=3.12,95%CI:2.64–3.69)higher risk of MAFLD was observed in the lowest quartile(Q1)group than in the other groups(Q2–Q4)and the highest quartile(Q4)group,respectively.The ORs of MAFLD were significantly increased in the lower muscle strength quartile groups in a dose-dependent manner(P for trend<0.001).These associations persisted in both sexes.An inverse association between muscle strength and the risk of MAFLD was observed in all subgroups according to age,obesity,and diabetes mellitus.In patients with MAFLD,the odds of severe liver fibrosis were higher in Q1(OR=1.83,95%CI:1.25–2.69)than in other groups(Q2–Q4).CONCLUSION Among Korean adults,low muscle strength was associated with an increased risk of MAFLD and liver fibrosis in patients with MAFLD. | Gyu Bae Lee Youn Huh Sang Hyun Lee Byoungduck Han Yang-Hyun Kim Do-Hoon Kim Seon Mee Kim Youn Seon Choi Kyung Hwan Cho Ga Eun Nam | 2023 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2023，29，45： | 1 |

| 14 | 痤疮患者多次应用表皮化学剥脱剂对面部皮脂分泌的影响显示文摘Background: Glycolic acid and Jessner’s solution are popular superficial chemical peel agents for the treatment of facial acne, and increased sebum secretion is one of the major aetiological factors of acne. Objective: To compare the effects of 30%glycolic acid peels and Jessner’s solution peels on sebum secretion in facial acne patients. Me thods: Thirty-eight patients with mild to moderate facial acne were included. Twenty-seven patients were treated with 30%glycolic acid peels and 11 patients with Jessner’s solution peels. Each peel was performed twice with an interval of 2 weeks. Before and 2 weeks after each peel, sebum levels of forehead, nose, chin and cheeks were measured by using a Sebumeter(SM810 Courage&Khazaka, Cologne, Germany). Results: The sebum levels were not significantly changed by two peels treatments of 30%glycolic acid peels or Jessner’s solution peels on the facial skins of patients with facial acne. Conclusions: The two types of peels, 30%glycolic acid peels and Jessner’s solution peels, did not affect sebum secretion of the facial skins of patients with facial acne after the two peels treatments.
