A Modelling Study of Inter-Annual Variation of Kuroshio Intrusion on the Shelf of East China Sea显示文摘Inter-annual variability of the Kuroshio water intrusion on the shelf of East China Sea (ECS) was simulated with a nested global and Northwest Pacific ocean circulation model. The model analysis reveals the influence of the variability of Kuroshio transport east of Taiwan on the intrusion to the northeast of Taiwan:high correlation (r=0.92) with the on-shore volume flux in the lower layer (50 200 m) ;low correlation (r=0.50) with the on-shore flux in the upper layer (0 50 m) .Spatial distribution of correlations between volume fluxes and sea surface height suggests that inter-annual variability of the Kuroshio flux east of Taiwan and its subsurface water intruding to the shelf lag behind the sea surface height anomalies in the central Pacific at 162 E by about 14 months, and could be related to wind-forced variation in the interior North Pacific that propagates westward as Rossby waves. The intrusion of Kuroshio surface water is also influenced by local winds. The intruding Kuroshio subsurface water causes variations of temperature and salinity of bottom waters on the southern ECS shelf. The influence of the intruding Kuroshio subsurface water extends widely from the shelf slope northeast of Taiwan northward to the central ECS near the 60 m isobath, and northeastward to the region near the 90 m isobath.LI Jiaxing WEI Hao ZHANG Zhihua LU Youyu 2013Journal of Ocean University of China2013,12,4:6
Identification and Analysis of High-Frequency Oscillations in the Eyewalls of Tropical Cyclones显示文摘High-frequency oscillations, with periods of about 2 hours, are first identified by applying wavelet analysis to observed minutely wind speeds around the eye and eyewall of tropical cyclones(TCs). Analysis of a model simulation of Typhoon Hagupit(2008) shows that the oscillations also occur in the TC intensity, vertical motion, convergence activity and air density around the eyewall. Sequences of oscillations in these variables follow a certain order.CHEN Shumin Youyu LU LI Weibiao WEN Zhiping 2015Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2015,32,5:2

Variations in High-frequency Oscillations of Tropical Cyclones over the Western North Pacific显示文摘Variations in the high-frequency oscillations of tropical cyclones(TCs) over the western North Pacific(WNP) are studied in numerical model simulations. Power spectrum analysis of maximum wind speeds at 10 m(MWS_(10)) from an ensemble of15 simulated TCs shows that oscillations are significant for all TCs. The magnitudes of oscillations in MWS_(10) are similar in the WNP and South China Sea(SCS); however, the mean of the averaged significant periods in the SCS(1.93 h) is shorter than that in the open water of the WNP(2.83 h). The shorter period in the SCS is examined through an ensemble of simulations, and a case simulation as well as a sensitivity experiment in which the continent is replaced by ocean for Typhoon Hagupit(2008). The analysis of the convergence efficiency within the boundary layer suggests that the shorter periods in the SCS are possibly due to the stronger terrain effect, which intensifies convergence through greater friction. The enhanced convergence strengthens the disturbance of the gradient and thermal wind balances, and then contributes to the shorter oscillation periods in the SCS.Shumin CHEN Weibiao LI Zhiping WEN Mingsen ZHOU Youyu LU Yu-Kun QIAN Haoya LIU Rong FANG 2018Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2018,35,4:1

Impacts of model resolution on simulation of mesoscale eddies in the Northeast Pacific Ocean显示文摘The model simulated meso-scale eddies in the Northeast Pacific Ocean, using two models with nominal horizontal resolutions of 1/12° and 1/36° in latitude/longitude (grid spacing of 7.5 km and 2.5 km), respectively, are presented. Compared with the 1/12° model, the 1/36° model obtains (1) similar variance and wave number spectra of the sea level anomaly and water temperature anomaly, and (2) increases in the level of the domain-averaged total kinetic energy, eddy kinetic energy (EKE), and variance of horizontal gradient of water temperature. In the interior basin of the southern region, both models show stronger eddy frontal activities, represented by EKE, temperature and its horizontal gradient, in summer and fall than in winter and spring. The challenge of evaluating the realism of highresolution ocean models with conventional satellite remote sensing observations is discussed.Youyu Lu Jiaxing Li Ji Lei Charles Hannah 2017Satellite Oceanography and Meteorology2017,2,2:0
Mathematical model and numerical investigation of the influence of spray drying parameters on granule sizes of mold powder显示文摘In this work, the formation mechanism of the droplet-to-granule was investigated in detail based on mold powder manufacturing.A specific mathematical model of two-stage spray drying was established to describe droplet and granule motion, heat and mass transfer, and granule morphology during spray drying. Then, the relationships between spray drying parameters(inlet temperature, atomization pres-sure,slurry mass flow rate)and the properties of the drying tower(temperature and velocity fields)and mold powder granules(temperature, evaporation rates, moisture content, and diameter)were simulated and calculated using ANSYS/Fluent software. To ensure that the granule size of mold powder was controlled within the ideal range(0.2-0.6 mm)for producing granules with appropriate mechanical and metallurgical properties, the following optimum spray drying parameters were chosen based on the results of the numerical simulation:inlet temperatures,873 K;slurry atomization pressure,1.8 MPa;slurry mass flow rate,0.05 kg s-1.Among these parameters, the slurry mass flow rate has the most significant effect on granule size.Fei Zhang Youyu Lu Shaoyan Zhu Funian Han Guanghua Wen Ping Tang Zibing Hou 2024Particuology2024,85,2:0
Yue Chen Xiaomeng Huang Jing-Jia Luo Yanluan Lin Jonathon S.Wright Youyu Lu Xingrong Chen Hua Jiang Pengfei Lin 2023Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Letters2023,16,4:0
