| 1 | Linking atmospheric pollution to cryospheric change in the Third Pole region: current progress and future prospects显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings are known as the Third Pole(TP). This region is noted for its high rates of glacier melt and the associated hydrological shifts that affect water supplies in Asia. Atmospheric pollutants contribute to climatic and cryospheric changes through their effects on solar radiation and the albedos of snow and ice surfaces; moreover, the behavior and fates within the cryosphere and environmental impacts of environmental pollutants are topics of increasing concern. In this review, we introduce a coordinated monitoring and research framework and network to link atmospheric pollution and cryospheric changes(APCC) within the TP region. We then provide an up-to-date summary of progress and achievements related to the APCC research framework, including aspects of atmospheric pollution’s composition and concentration, spatial and temporal variations, trans-boundary transport pathways and mechanisms, and effects on the warming of atmosphere and changing in Indian monsoon, as well as melting of glacier and snow cover. We highlight that exogenous air pollutants can enter into the TP’s environments and cause great impacts on regional climatic and environmental changes. At last, we propose future research priorities and map out an extended program at the global scale. | 2 | Relationship between Cognition Function and Hippocampus Structure after Long-term Microwave Exposure显示文摘Objective To analyze the effects of long-term microwave exposure on hippocampal structure and function in the rat.Methods Experiments were performed on 184 male Wistar rats(three exposure groups and a sham group).Microwaves were applied daily for 6 min over 1 month at average power densities of 2.5,5,and 10 mW/cm2.Learning and memory abilities were assessed by Morris water maze.High performance liquid chromatography was used to detect neurotransmitter concentrations in the hippocampus.Hippocampal structures were observed by histopathological analysis.Results Following long-term microwave exposure there was a significant decrease in learning and memory activity in the 7 d,14 d,and 1 m in all three microwave exposure groups.Neurotransmitter concentrations of four amino acids(glutamate,aspartic acid,glycine,and gamma-aminobutyric acid) in hippocampus were increased in the 2.5 and 5 mW/cm2 groups and decreased in the 10 mW/cm2 group.There was evidence of neuronal degeneration and enlarged perivascular spaces in the hippocampus in the microwave exposure groups.Further,mitochondria became swollen and cristae were disordered.The rough endoplasmic reticulum exhibited sacculated distension and there was a decrease in the quantity of synaptic vesicles.Conclusion These data suggest that the hippocampus can be injured by long-term microwave exposure,which might result in impairment of cognitive function due to neurotransmitter disruption. | ZHAO Li PENG Rui Yun WANG Shui Ming WANG Li Feng GAO Ya Bing DONG Ji LI Xiang SU Zhen Tao | 2012 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,2: | 27 |
| 3 | EFFECT OF ASPIRIN PLUS CLOPIDOGREL ON INFLAMMATORY MARKERS IN PATIENTS WITH NON-ST-SEGMENT ELEVATION ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME显示文摘Background Aspirin can inhibit inflammatory reactions and platelet aggregation, but little is known about the effects of the combination of aspirin plus clopidogrel, a new antiplatelet agent, on inflammation. The purpose of this study was to determine whether aspirin plus clopidogrel can further suppress inflammation in patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTEACS). Methods One hundred and fifteen patients with NSTEACS were randomized into two groups: group A (aspirin alone, n=58) and group B (aspirin plus clopidogrel, n=57). Patients in group A received a loading dose of 300 mg aspirin, then 100 mg per day. The patients in group B received a loading dose of 300 mg aspirin and 300 mg clopidogrel, then 100 mg aspirin and 75 mg clopidogrel per day. Serum high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) were measured in all patients at baseline prior to any drug treatment after admission, and at 7 and 30 days after beginning drug treatment. Thirty healthy volunteers on no medications were enrolled as controls (group C). Results Baseline levels of hs-CRP and TNF-αin group A and group B were significantly higher than those in group C. Seven days after administration, the levels of hs-CRP in both group A and group B decreased significantly [Group A: (6.15 ± 1.39) mg/L vs (9.18 ± 1.62) mg/L, P <0.01; Group B:(4.99 ± 1.62) mg/L vs (10.29 ± 1.47) mg/L, P<0.01]. Similarly, levels of TNF-αin both groups decreased at 7 days compared to baseline [Group A: (90.99 ± 28.91) pg/ml vs (117.20 ± 37.13) pg/ml, P <0.01; Group B: (74.32± 21.83) pg/ml vs (115.27 ± 32.11) pg/ml, P <0.01]. Thirty days after administration, the levels of hs-CRP in both group A and group B decreased further to (3.49 ± 1.53) mg/L, and (2.40 ± 1.17) mg/L respectively (P <0.01 for both comparisons). Levels of TNF-αin groups A and B also decreased significantly between 7 and 30 days, to 63.28 ± 29.01 pg/ml (group A) and (43.95 ± 17.10) pg/ml (group B; P <0.01 for both comparisons). Significantly lower levels of hs-CRP and TNF-αwere observed in group B compared to Group A at thirty days after initiating drug treatment (P <0.05). Conclusions Aspirin plus clopidogrel treatment reduced levels of serum hs-CRP and TNF-α in patients with NSTEACS significantly more than aspirin alone. | 5 | Laparoscopic splenectomy for hypersplenism secondary to liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension显示文摘Since the first laparoscopic splenectomy(LS)was reported in 1991,LS has become the gold standard for the removal of normal to moderately enlarged spleens in benign conditions.Compared with open splenectomy,fewer postsurgical complications and better postoperative recovery have been observed,but LS is contraindicated for hypersplenism secondary to liver cirrhosis in many institutions owing to technical difficulties associated with splenomegaly,well-developed collateral circulation,and increased risk of bleeding.With the improvements of laparoscopic technique,the concept is changing.This article aims to give an overview of the latest development in laparoscopic splenectomy for hypersplenism secondary to liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension.Despite a lack of randomized controlled trial,the publications obtained have shown that with meticulous surgical techniques and advanced instruments,LS is a technically feasible,safe,and effective procedure for hypersplenism secondary to cirrhosis and portal hypertension and contributes to decreased blood loss,shorter hospital stay,and less impairment of liver function.It is recommended that the dilated short gastric vessels and other enlarged collateral circulation surrounding the spleen be divided with the LigaSure vessel sealing equipment,and the splenic artery and vein be transected en bloc with the application of the endovascular stapler.To support the clinical evidence,further randomized controlled trials about this topic are necessary. | Xiao-Li Zhan Yun Ji Yue-Dong Wang | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,19: | 24 |

| 8 | N6-Methyladenine DNA Methylation in Japonica and Indica Rice Genomes and Its Association with Gene Expression,Plant Development, and Stress Responses显示文摘N6-Methyladenine (6mA)DNA methylation has recently been implicated as a potential new epigenetic marker in eukaryotes,including the dioot modelArabidopsis thaliana.However,the conservation and divergence of 6mA distribution patterns and functions in plants remain elusive.Here we report high-quality 6mA methylomes at single-nucleotide resolution in rice based on substantially improved genome sequences of two rice cultivars,Nipponbare (Nip;Japonica)and 93-11 (Indica).Analysis of 6mA genomic distribution and its association with transcription suggest that 6mA distribution and function is rather conserved between rice and Arabidopsis.We found that 6mA levels are positively correlated with the expression of key stressrelated genes,which may be responsible for the difference in stress tolerance between Nip and 93-11. Moreover,we showed that mutations in DDM1 cause defects in plant growth and decreased 6mA level. | 9 | Microwave Exposure Impairs Synaptic Plasticity in the Rat Hippocampus and PC12 Cells through Over-activation of the NMDA Receptor Signaling Pathway显示文摘Objective The aim of this study is to investigate whether microwave exposure would affect the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor(NMDAR) signaling pathway to establish whether this plays a role in synaptic plasticity impairment. Methods 48 male Wistar rats were exposed to 30 m W/cm2 microwave for 10 min every other day for three times. Hippocampal structure was observed through H&E staining and transmission electron microscope. PC12 cells were exposed to 30 m W/cm2 microwave for 5 min and the synapse morphology was visualized with scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscope. The release of amino acid neurotransmitters and calcium influx were detected. The expressions of several key NMDAR signaling molecules were evaluated. Results Microwave exposure caused injury in rat hippocampal structure and PC12 cells, especially the structure and quantity of synapses. The ratio of glutamic acid and gamma-aminobutyric acid neurotransmitters was increased and the intracellular calcium level was elevated in PC12 cells. A significant change in NMDAR subunits(NR1, NR2 A, and NR2B) and related signaling molecules(Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent kinase II gamma and phosphorylated c AMP-response element binding protein) were examined. Conclusion 30 m W/cm2 microwave exposure resulted in alterations of synaptic structure, amino acid neurotransmitter release and calcium influx. | 13 | Severe acute pancreatitis due to tamoxifen-induced hypertriglyceridemia with diabetes mellitus显示文摘The side effects of tamoxifen are generally mild, including the effect on lipoprotein metabolism. However, there are few cases of severe tamoxifen induced hypertriglyceridemia. Hypertriglyceridemia is a marked risk factor for acute pancreatitis and approximately 2% to 5% of cases of acute pancreatitis are related to drugs. We report on tamoxifen-induced hypertriglyceridemia and acute pancreatitis in a 40 years old woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus occurred by dexamethasone. She was treated with insulin infusion and fenofibrate, and goserelin acetate was started instead of tamoxifen after discharge from the hospital. Also, probable pathogenic hypotheses about the correlation between tamoxifen and dexamethasone induced type 2 diabetes mellitus on severe acute pancreatitis are provided. Clinicians should take care of risks of severe acute pancreatitis on using tamoxifen, especially for patients with dexamethasone induced diabetes mellitus. | 15 | Predictors and reduction techniques for irreducible reverse intertrochanteric fractures显示文摘Background:Reverse intertrochanteric fractures are usually initially treated with closed reduction.However,sometimes these fractures are not amenable to closed reduction and require open reduction.To date,few studies have been conducted on predictors of and reduction techniques for irreducible reverse intertrochanteric fractures.Therefore,this study aimed to summarize the displacement patterns of irreducible reverse intertrochanteric fractures and corresponding reduction techniques,and explore predictors of irreducibility.Methods:We reviewed 1174 cases of trochanteric fractures treated in our hospital from January 2006 to October 2018,113 of which were reverse intertrochanteric fractures.An irreducible fracture was determined according to intra-operative fluoroscopy imaging after closed manipulation.Fractures were assessed for displacement patterns,radiographic features of irreducibility,and reduction techniques.Logistic regression analysis was performed on potential predictors for irreducibility,including gender,age,body mass index,AO Foundation/Orthopaedic Trauma Association(AO/OTA)classification,and radiographic features.Results:Seventy-six irreducible fractures were identified,accounting for 67%of reverse intertrochanteric fractures.Six patterns of fracture displacement after closed manipulation were identified;the most common pattern was medial displacement and posterior sagging of the femoral shaft relative to the head-neck fragment.Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified three predictors of irreducibility:a medially displaced femoral shaft relative to the head-neck fragment on the anteroposterior(AP)view(odds ratio[OR],8.00;95%confidence interval[CI],3.04–21.04;P<0.001),a displaced lesser trochanter(OR,3.61;95%CI,1.35–9.61;P=0.010),and a displaced lateral femoral wall(OR,2.92;95%CI,1.02–8.34;P=0.046).Conclusions:A high proportion of reverse intertrochanteric fractures are not amenable to closed reduction.Six patterns of fracture displacement after closed manipulation were identified.Different reduction techniques are required for different displacement patterns.Predictors of irreducibility include a medially displaced femoral shaft relative to the head-neck fragment on the AP view,a displaced lesser trochanter,and a displaced lateral femoral wall.These patients warrant special consideration in terms of recognition and management. | You-Liang Hao Zhi-Shan Zhang Fang Zhou Hong-Quan Ji Yun Tian Yan Guo Yang Lyu Zhong-Wei Yang Guo-Jin Hou | 2019 | Chinese Medical Journal2019,,21: | 11 |

| 17 | Improvement of type 2 diabetes mellitus after gastric cancer surgery:Short-term outcome analysis after gastrectomy显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the effect of gastrectomy on diabetes control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and early gastric cancer.METHODS:Data from 64 patients with early gastric cancer and type 2 diabetes mellitus were prospectively collected.All patients underwent curative gastrectomy(36 subtotal gastrectomy with gastroduodenostomy,16subtotal gastrectomy with gastrojejunostomy,12 total gastrectomy)and their physical and laboratory data were evaluated before and 3,6 and 12 mo after surgery.RESULTS:Fasting blood glucose(FBS),HbA1c,insulin,C-peptide,and homeostasis model assessment-estimated insulin resistance were significantly improved 3mo after surgery,regardless of operation type,and the significant improvement in all measured values,except HbA1c,was sustained up to 12 mo postoperatively.Approximately 3.1%of patients stopped diabetes medication and had HbA1c<6.0%and FBS<126 mg/dL.54.7%of patients decreased their medication,and had reduced FBS or HbA1c.In multivariate analysis,good diabetic control was not associated with operation type,but was associated with diabetes duration.CONCLUSION:Diabetes improved in more than 50%of patients during the first year after gastric cancer surgery.The degree of diabetes control was related to diabetes duration. | Ji Yeong An Yoo Min Kim Min Ah Yun Byeong Hee Jeon Sung Hoon Noh | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,48: | 11 |

| 20 | Graphitic Carbon Quantum Dots Modified Nickel Cobalt Sulfide as Cathode Materials for Alkaline Aqueous Batteries显示文摘Carbon quantum dots(CQDs)as a new class of emerging materials have gradually drawn researchers’concern in recent years.In this work,the graphitic CQDs are prepared through a scalable approach,achieving a high yield with more than 50%.The obtained CQDs are further used as structure-directing and conductive agents to synthesize novel N,S-CQDs/NiCo2S4 composite cathode materials,manifesting the enhanced electrochemical properties resulted from the synergistic effect of highly conductive N,S-codoped CQDs offering fast electronic transport and unique micro-/nanostructured NiCo2S4 microspheres with Faradaic redox characteristic contributing large capacity.Moreover,the nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide(N-rGO)/Fe2O3 composite anode materials exhibit ultrahigh specific capacity as well as significantly improved rate property and cycle performance originating from the high-capacity prism-like Fe2O3 hexahedrons tightly wrapped by highly conductive N-rGO.A novel alkaline aqueous battery assembled by these materials displays a specific energy(50.2 Wh kg^−1),ultrahigh specific power(9.7 kW kg^−1)and excellent cycling performance with 91.5%of capacity retention at 3 A g^−1 for 5000 cycles.The present research offers a valuable guidance for the exploitation of advanced energy storage devices by the rational design and selection of battery/capacitive composite materials. | Yirong Zhu Jingying Li Xiaoru Yun Ganggang Zhao Peng Ge Guoqiang Zou Yong Liu Hongshuai Hou Xiaobo Ji | 2020 | Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,2: | 10 |
