Accumulative deformation in railway track induced by high-speed traffic loading of the trains显示文摘Prediction and control of the permanent settlement of a track caused by traffic loading from trains is crucial to high-speed railway design and maintenance. In this study, a unified prediction model of accumulative deformation of geomaterials used in railway construction subjected to cyclic loadings is introduced and calibrated using physical model testing.Based on this versatile model, a calculation approach to determine the track structure settlement under repeated loadings caused by the movement of the wheel axle of the train is proposed.Regression analysis on the physical model testing is adopted to determine the parameters involved in the computational approach.Comparison of model test data and computed results shows that the parameters obtained from the back-analysis are consistent throughout the various testing conditions, and the proposed calculation approach is capable of satisfactorily predicting the accumulative settlement of the railway roadbed and subgrade soil for various axle loads and loading cycles.A case study of a high-speed railway is performed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach in realistic engineering applications. The computation results from the settlement development of a roadbed and subgrade soil are presented and discussed. | Bian Xuecheng Jiang Hongguang Chen Yunmin | 2010 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2010,9,3: | 16
Analysis of solid-liquid-gas interactions in landfilled municipal solid waste by a bio-hydro-mechanical coupled model显示文摘Based on first-order kinetics of hydrolysis process, biodegradation of municipal solid waste(MSW) is assumed to obey a first-order decay equation which can take the direct effect of water content on biodegradation into account.Hydraulic model is an unsaturated-saturated flow model using mass conservation equations for fluids.Mechanical compression of MSW is ex-pressed by a stress-age coupled compression model.Through above models,a one-dimensional(1-D) bio-hydro-mechanical coupled model is established to analyze solid-liquid-gas interactions in landfilled MSW.Values of all the model parameters for current typical Chinese MSW are determined.Numerical analysis of a hypothetical waste sample in a closed system shows that gas pressure and gas concentration is extremely large which might cause severe gas explosion problem.Total gas production is about 267.0 m3 per wet ton of fresh wastes. For another hypothetical landfilled MSW layer, the coupled model predicts a dis-sipation of gas pressure during passive gas collection process.Annual gas production is large at the beginning of biodegrada-tion,and then decreases with time.Surface settlement of the wastes increases quickly initially and then becomes stable with a compression strain of about 0.32 after 20 years. | CHEN YunMin XU XiaoBing ZHAN LiangTong | 2012 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,1: | 14
Wave-induced pore water pressure in marine cohesive soils显示文摘Cyclic triaxial tests and numerical analyses were undertaken, in order to evaluate the wave-induced pore water pressure in seabedsediments in the Hangzhou Bay. The cyclic triaxial tests indicate that the rate of pore water pressure generation in cohesive soilsdecreases with time, and the development of the pore water pressure can be represented by a hyperbolic curve. Numerical analyses, taking into account the generation and dissipation of pore water pressure simultaneously, suggest that the pore water pressure buildupin cohesive soils may increase with time continuously until the pore water pressure ratio approaches to 1, or it may decrease after acertain time, which is controlled by drain conditions. These phenomena are different from those in sands. For waves with a returnperiod of 100 a in the Hangzhou Bay, if the wave duration is more than 60 h, then the pore water pressure ratio will be close to 1 andsoil fabric failure will take place. | CHEN Yunmin LAI Xianghua YE Yincan HUANG Bo JI Meixiu | 2005 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2005,24,4: | 10
Numerical simulation of high-speed train induced ground vibrations using 2.5D finite element approach显示文摘An efficient 2.5D finite element numerical modeling approach was developed to simulate wave motions generated in ground by high-speed train passages. Fourier transform with respect to the coordinate in the track direction was applied to re-ducing the three-dimensional dynamic problem to a plane strain problem which has been solved in a section perpendicular to the track direction. In this study, the track structure and supporting ballast layer were simplified as a composite Euler beam resting on the ground surface, while the ground with complicated geometry and physical properties was modeled by 2.5D quadrilateral elements. Wave dissipation into the far field was dealt with the transmitting boundary constructed with fre-quency-dependent dashpots. Three-dimensional responses of track structure and ground were obtained from the wavenumber expansion in the track direction. The simulated wave motions in ground were interpreted for train moving loads traveling at speeds below or above the critical velocity of a specific track-ground system. It is found that, in the soft ground area, the high-speed train operations can enter the transonic range, which can lead to resonances of the track structure and the sup-porting ground. The strong vibration will endanger the safe operations of high-speed train and accelerate the deterioration of railway structure. | BIAN XueCheng CHEN YunMin HU Ting | 2008 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2008,51,6: | 9
Shear wave velocity-based liquefaction evaluation in the great Wenchuan earthquake: a preliminary case study显示文摘The great Wenchuan earthquake(Ms = 8.0) in 2008 caused severe damage in the western part of the Chengdu Plain.Soil liquefaction was one of the major causes of damage in the plain areas, and proper evaluation of liquefaction potential is important in the defi nition of the seismic hazard facing a given region and post-earthquake reconstruction. In this paper,a simplifi ed procedure is proposed for liquefaction assessment of sandy deposits using shear wave velocity(Vs),and soil liquefaction from the Banqiao School site was preliminarily investigated after the earthquake.Boreholes were made at the site and shear wave velocities were measured both by SASW and down-hole methods.Based on the in-situ soil information and Vs profi les,the liquefaction potential of this site was evaluated. The results are reasonably consistent with the actual fi eld behavior observed after the earthquake, indicating that the proposed procedure is effective. The possible effects of gravel and fi nes contents on liquefaction of sandy soils were also brie? y discussed. | Zhou Yanguo,Chen Yunmin and Ling Daosheng MOE Key Laboratory of Soft Soils and Geoenvironmental Engineering,Institute of Geotechnical Engineering,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310058,China Assistant Professor Professor | 2009 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2009,8,2: | 9
An analytical solution to contaminant advection and dispersion through a GCL/AL liner system显示文摘An one-dimensional model for contaminant advection and dispersion through a GCL/AL liner system was developed to analyze the equivalence between a GCL(geosynthetic clay liner) and a CCL(compacted clay liner). The continuity of contaminant concentration and flux at the interface between the GCL and the underlying attenuation liner(AL) are obeyed in the model, and background concentrations in the soil liner are also considered.Based on the assumption that contaminant transport through a GCL was a steady state process,an analytical solution was obtained.Increasing the leachate head from 0.3 m to 10 m results in a reduction of the breakthrough time of benzene by a factor of 2.7.The breakthrough time of benzene increases by a factor of 7.0 when the hydraulic conductivity of GCL decreases by one order of magnitude. The breakthrough curves are more sensitive to the hydraulic conductivities of the GCL and AL(attenuation layer) than to the thickness of the AL.The standard 75 cm CCL can be replaced by a combination of a GCL and a 1.0-4.0 m thickness of AL.The proposed method can be used for preliminary design of GCL composite liners, assessing the equivalence between GCL and CCL,preliminary design of a remediation method for contaminated soils, and evaluating experimental results. | XIE HaiJian LOU ZhangHua CHEN YunMin JIN AiMin CHEN PeiXiong | 2011 | Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,8: | 8
Analysis of diffusion-adsorption equivalency of landfill liner systems for organic contaminants显示文摘The equivalence between multilayered barriers regarding diffusion and adsorption was studied. The bottom boundary of the liner system is defined by assuming concentration continuous and flux continuous conditions of the contaminant between the bottom liner layer and the underlying soil. Five different liner systems were compared in terms of solute breakthrough time. The results of the analysis showed that breakthrough time of the hydrophobic organic compounds for a 2-meter-thick compacted clay liner (CCL) could be 3-4 orders of magnitude is greater than the breakthrough time for a geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) composite liner. The GM/GCL and GM/CCL composite liner systems provide a better diffusion barrier for the hydrophilic organic compounds than that for the hydrophobic compounds due to their different Henry's coeffcient. The calculated breakthrough times of the organic contaminants for the Chinese standard liner systems were found to be generally greater than those for the GCL alternatives, for the specific conditions examined. If the distribution coeffcient increases to 2.8 for the hydrophobic compounds or 1.0 for the hydrophilic compounds, the thickness of the attenuation layer needed to achieve the same breakthrough time as the standard liner systems can be reduced by a factor of about 1.9-2.4. As far as diffusive and adsorption contaminant transport are concerned, GM or GCL is less effective than CCL. | XIE Haijian, CHEN Yunmin, KE Han, TANG Xiaowu, CHEN Renpeng MOE Key Laboratory of Soft Soils and Geoenvironmental Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310027, China. | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,4: | 8
Shear wave velocity-based evaluation and design of stone column improved ground for liquefaction mitigation显示文摘The evaluation and design of stone column improvement ground for liquefaction mitigation is a challenging issue for the state of practice. In this paper, a shear wave velocity-based approach is proposed based on the well-defined correlations of liquefaction resistance(CRR)-shear wave velocity(V_s)-void ratio(e) of sandy soils, and the values of parameters in this approach are recommended for preliminary design purpose when site specific values are not available. The detailed procedures of pre-and post-improvement liquefaction evaluations and stone column design are given. According to this approach, the required level of ground improvement will be met once the target V_s of soil is raised high enough(i.e., no less than the critical velocity) to resist the given earthquake loading according to the CRR-V_s relationship, and then this requirement is transferred to the control of target void ratio(i.e., the critical e) according to the V_s-e relationship. As this approach relies on the densification of the surrounding soil instead of the whole improved ground and is conservative by nature, specific considerations of the densification mechanism and effect are given, and the effects of drainage and reinforcement of stone columns are also discussed. A case study of a thermal power plant in Indonesia is introduced, where the effectiveness of stone column improved ground was evaluated by the proposed V_s-based method and compared with the SPT-based evaluation. This improved ground performed well and experienced no liquefaction during subsequent strong earthquakes. | Zhou Yanguo Sun Zhengbo Chen Jie Chen Yunmin Chen Renpeng | 2017 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2017,16,2: | 7
Globally optimal distributed Kalman filtering fusion显示文摘The goal of this paper is to give a survey of the previous works on the globally optimal distributed Kalman filtering fusion with classical and nonclassical dynamic systems. Then, we summarize some of our recent results on nonclassical and unideal dynamic systems, including dynamic systems with feedback and cross-correlated sensor measurement noises, dynamic systems with random parameter matrices, and dynamic systems with out-of-sequence or asynchronous measurements. The global optimality in this paper means that the distributed Kalman filtering fusion is exactly equal to the corresponding centralized optimal Kalman filtering fusion. Therefore, not only all of the proposed fusion algorithms here are distributed, but performance as good as that of the corresponding optimal centralized fusion algorithms is achieved. There also exist many papers for other fusion optimality (e.g., the optimal convex linear estimation/compression fusion) discussion, which are not involved in this paper. | SHEN XiaoJing LUO YingTing ZHU YunMin SONG EnBin | 2012 | Science China(Information Sciences)2012,55,3: | 6
Engineering properties for high kitchen waste content municipal solid waste显示文摘Engineering properties of municipal solid waste(MSW) depend largely on the waste's initial composition and degree of degradation.MSWs in developing countries usually have a high kitchen waste content(called HKWC MSW).After comparing and analyzing the laboratory and field test results of physical composition, hydraulic properties, gas generation and gas permeability, and mechanical properties for HKWC MSW and low kitchen waste content MSW(called LKWC MSW),the following findings were obtained:(1) HKWC MSW has a higher initial water content(IWC) than LKWC MSW,but the field capacities of decomposed HKWC and LKWC MSWs are similar;(2) the hydraulic conductivity and gas permeability for HKWC MSW are both an order of magnitude smaller than those for LKWC MSW;(3)compared with LKWC MSW,HKWC MSW has a higher landfill gas(LFG) generation rate but a shorter duration and a lower potential capacity;(4) the primary compression feature for decomposed HKWC MSW is similar to that of decomposed LKWC MSW,but the compression induced by degradation of HKWC MSW is greater than that of LKWC MSW;and(5) the shear strength of HKWC MSW changes significantly with time and strain.Based on the differences of engineering properties between these two kinds of MSWs,the geo-environmental issues in HKWC MSW landfills were analyzed, including high leachate production, high leachate mounds, low LFG collection efficiency, large settlement and slope stability problem, and corresponding advice for the management and design of HKWC MSW landfills was recommended. | Wu Gao Yunmin Chen Liangtong Zhan Xuecheng Bian | 2015 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2015,7,6: | 6
Experimental study on applicability of using time-domain reflectometry to detect NAPLs contaminated sands显示文摘Underground contamination by non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) becomes increasingly serious. Rapid and reliable detection of contaminated zone and degree is the first step to site remediation. In this paper, diesel and fine sand are used as experiment materials to investigate the applicability of using time-domain reflectometry (TDR) to detect LNAPLs contamination. The major work includes: measurement of dielectric constant and electrical conductivity for the diesel-water-air-sand mixtures; measurement of reflection waveform and dielectric constant for specimens with a diesel contaminated layer being sandwiched in sand. The experimental results show the followings: A significant decrease in both dielectric constant and electrical conductivity is observed for the diesel-water-air-sand mixtures when diesel displaces the pore water, and the content of diesel can be calculated by the model; insignificant change in dielectric properties is measured when diesel only displaces the pore gas; when the diesel contaminated sand is sandwiched between two saturated sand layers, the interfaces of the diesel contaminated layer can be identified by analyzing the reflection waveform; for field application, TDR method is valid for the case that LNAPLs seep into saturated sand layer, and the applicability of TDR method in vadose zone depends on the initial saturation of the sand layer. The findings obtained in this paper provide a guidance for the use of TDR for the field investigation of NAPLs contaminated site. | ZHAN LiangTong MU QingYi CHEN YunMin CHEN RenPeng | 2013 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,6: | 5
Seismic stability and permanent displacement of landfill along liners显示文摘The three-part wedge limit equilibrium method for seismic stability analysis of the landfill along liners is presented. The approximate solutions of the factor of safety and the yield acceleration coefficient are obtained. Parametric studies show that the interface strength of liners, the shear strength of waste and the height of retaining wall can influence the seismic stability of landfill along liners. The density and the shear wave velocity of the field waste are obtained by the borehole investigation and the spectral analysis of surface wave (SASW), respectively. The strain-dependent shear modulus and damping ratio of the artifical waste are obtained by the moderate-scale dynamic triaxial tests. The onedimensional (1D) equivalent linear dynamic response analysis is used to calculate the horizontal equivalent seismic coefficient-time history of the sliding landfill during earthquake. The seismic permanent displacement of the landfill along liners with different site conditons and heights is evaluated by the Newmark method. The catculated results show that ratio of ky /kmax, site conditions, the amplitude and frequency content of the bedrock motion can affect the seismic permanent displacement of the landfill along liners in some degree. Finally, the seismic stability and permanent displacements of three expanded configurations of a certain landfill case are analyzed. | CHEN YunMin GAO Deng ZHU Bin CHEN RenPeng | 2008 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2008,51,4: | 4
Controlling strain in geosynthetic liner systems used in vertically expanded landfills显示文摘According to relevant new regulations in China,a composite liner system involving geosynthetic materials must be installed at the bottom of an expanded landfill. The deformation and integrity of the composite liner under a variety of factors are important issue to be considered in the design of a landfill expansion. In this paper,we investigate the strain distribution in geosynthetic materials within the composite liner system of expanded landfills, including strains in geosynthetic materials resulting from overall settlement and lateral movement of landfills, localized subsidence in landfills, and differential settlement around gas venting wells. The allowable strains of geosynthetic materials are discussed based on the results of tensile tests, and the corresponding design criteria for composite liner systems are proposed.Meanwhile, practical measures allowing strain control in geosynthetic materials used in landfill engineering are proposed. | Yunmin Chen Deng Gao Bin Zhu | 2009 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2009,1,1: | 3

Effect of fire intensity on active organic and total soil carbon in a Larix gmelinii forest in the Daxing'anling Mountains,Northeastern China显示文摘Studying contents and seasonal dynamics of active organic carbon in the soil is an important method for revealing the turnover and regulation mechanism of soil carbon pool. Through 3 years of field sampling and lab analysis, we studied the seasonal variations, content differences, and interrelationships of total organic carbon(TOC), light fraction organic carbon(LFOC), and particulate organic carbon(POC) of the soil in the forest areas burned with different fire intensities in the Daxing'anling Mountains. The mean TOC content in the low-intensity burned area was greater than that in the unburned area,moderate-intensity, and high-intensity burned areas in June and November(P<0.05). LFOC and POC in the lowintensity burned area were greater than that in either moderate-intensity or high-intensity burned areas, with significant differences in LFOC in September and November(P <0.05). A significant difference in LFOC between the unburned and burned areas was only found in July(P < 0.05). However, the differences in POC between the unburned and burned areas were not significant in all the whole seasons(P >0.05). Soil LFOC and POC varied significantly with the seasons(P< 0.05) in the Daxing'anling Mountains. Significant linear relationships were observed between soil TOC, LFOC, and POC, which were positively correlated with soil nitrogen and negatively correlated with soil temperature in the Daxing'anling Mountains. | Yunmin Wei Haiqing Hu Jiabao Sun Qiang Yuan Long Sun Huifeng Liu | 2016 | Journal of Forestry Research2016,27,6: | 2

Hypergravity experiments on multiphase media evolution显示文摘The gravitational field affects the evolution of multiphase media, such as rocks, soil, and alloy melts. Hypergravity increases the body force of matter, enhancing the driving force of the relative motion between substances with different densities and accelerating the evolution of multiphase media. Hypergravity experiments provide a new approach to exploring the motion of multiphase media and solving engineering problems. Hypergravity experiments have been conducted in different disciplines, such as materials science, geological science, and geotechnical engineering. However, the knowledge barriers between various research fields have caused the development of centrifuges/inflight devices and theoretical research on the mechanisms of matter in motion in hypergravity to lag behind the application of hypergravity experiments, limiting the progress in these experiments. This article systematically summarizes and proposes the fundamentals of hypergravity experiments, while the scientific challenge of the nonlinear hypergravity effect induced by high hypergravity on multiphase media evolution is clarified. Evaluation criteria are proposed for the noninertial frame effects of the centrifugal hypergravity field. The development of the high-centrifugal acceleration, large-capacity, and long-beam centrifuges are determined as the future research direction. Representative cases are used to demonstrate the effectiveness and great potential of the hypergravity experiments for the solidification of alloy melts and physical modeling. Challenges in the experimental methodology are also clarified. This paper reviews the fundamentals and applications of hypergravity experiments in various disciplines, pointing out the research direction of hypergravity experiments on multiphase media evolution. | CHEN YunMin TANG Yao LING DaoSheng WANG YuBing | 2022 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2022,65,12: | 1
