| 4 | A Novel Dynamic Stretching Solution to Eliminate Saturation Effect in NDVI and Its Application in Drought Monitoring显示文摘The normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) is one of the key input variables for developing drought indices.However,the NDVI quickly saturates in high vegetation surfaces,and thus,the generalization of a drought index over different ecosystems becomes a challenge.This paper presents a novel,dynamic stretching algorithm to overcome the saturation effect in NDVI.A scaling transformation function to eliminate saturation effects when the vegetation fraction(VF) is large is proposed.Dynamic range adjustment is conducted using three coefficients,namely,the normalization factor(a),the stretching range controlling factor(m),and the stretching size controlling factor(e).The results show that the stretched NDVI(S-NDVI) is more sensitive to vegetation fraction than NDVI when the VF is large,ranging from 0.75 to 1.00.Moreover,the saturation effect in NDVI is effectively removed by using the S-NDVI.Further analysis suggests that there is a good linear correlation between the S-NDVI and the leaf area index(LAI).At the same time,the proposed S-NDVI significantly reduces or even eliminates the saturation effect over high biomass.A comparative analysis is performed between drought indices derived from NDVI and S-NDVI,respectively.In the experiment,reflectance data from the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer(MODIS) products and in-situ observation data from the meteorological sites at a regional scale are used.In this study,the coefficient of determination(R2) of the stretched drought index(S-DI) is above 0.5,indicating the reliability of the proposed algorithm with surface soil moisture content.Thus,the S-DI is suggested to be used as a drought index in extended regions,thus regional heterogeneity should be taken into account when applying stretching method. | LIU Fang QIN Qiming ZHAN Zhiming | 2012 | Chinese Geographical Science2012,22,6: | 2 |

| 14 | Excess mortality associated with high ozone exposure:A national cohort study in China显示文摘Emerging epidemiological studies suggest that long-term ozone(O_(3))exposure may increase the risk of mortality,while pre-existing evidence is mixed and has been generated predominantly in North America and Europe.In this study,we investigated the impact of long-term O_(3)exposure on all-cause mortality in a national cohort in China.A dynamic cohort of 20882 participants aged40 years was recruited between 2011 and 2018 from four waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study.A Cox proportional hazard regression model with time-varying exposures on an annual scale was used to estimate the mortality risk associated with warm-season(Aprile September)O_(3)exposure.The annual average level of participant exposure to warm-season O_(3)concentrations was 100 mg m^(-3)(range:61 e142 mg m^(-3)).An increase of 10 mg m^(-3)in O_(3)was associated with a hazard ratio(HR)of 1.18(95%confidence interval[CI]:1.13e1.23)for all-cause mortality.Compared with the first exposure quartile of O_(3),HRs of mortality associated with the second,third,and highest exposure quartiles were 1.09(95%CI:0.95e1.25),1.02(95%CI:0.88e1.19),and 1.56(95%CI:1.34e1.82),respectively.A J-shaped concentration eresponse associationwas observed,revealing a non-significant increase in risk below a concentration of approximately 110 mg m^(-3).Low-temperature-exposure residents had a higher risk of mortality associated with long-term O_(3)exposure.This study expands current epidemiological evidence from China and reveals that high-concentration O_(3)exposure curtails the long-term survival of middle-aged and older adults. | Yang Yuan Kai Wang Haitong Zhe Sun Yu Zhan Zhiming Yang Kejia Hu Yunquan Zhang | 2023 | Environmental Science and Ecotechnology2023,,3: | 0 |
| 15 | Redistribution process of precipitation in ecological restoration activity of Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica in Mu Us Sandy Land,China显示文摘Precipitation is the most important water resource in semi-arid regions of China.The redistribution of precipitation among atmospheric water,soil water and groundwater are related to the land surface afforested ecological system.The study took widely replanted Pinus sylvestris var.Mongolica(PSM)in Mu Us Sandy Land(MUSL)as a research object and monitored precipitation,soil moisture,sap flow,and deep soil recharge(DSR)to find out moisture distribution in shallow soil layers.Results showed that the restoration process of PSM in MUSL changed the distribution of precipitation,with part of it infltrating downward as DsR and part of it being stored in the shallow soil.Consequently,evapotranspiration increased and DsR significantly decreased,resulting in up to 466.9 mm of precipitation returning to the atmosphere through evapotranspiration in 2016.Vegetation increased soil water storage(SwS)capacity,with maximum SWS in PSM plot and bare sandy land(BSL)being 260 mm and 197 mm per unit horizontal area,respectively in 2016.DSR decreased from 54%of precipitation in the BSL plot to 0.2%of precipitation in the PSM plot in 2016.A great portion of infiltrated water was stored in the PSM ecosystem,resulting in a time lag of infiltration to reach the deep soil layer,and the infiltration rate in the BSL plot was 11 times of that in the PSM plot.SWS decreased 16 mm and 7.6 mm per unit horizontal area over a one-year period(from March to October,non-freezing time)in 2017 and 2019,respectively.The PSM annual sap flow was maintained at a relatively constant level of 154 mm/yr.Through in-situ measurement and comparative analysis of the precipitation redistribution of the BSL plot and the PSM plot,we find that PSM can significantly reduce the shallow soil water storage and DSR.However,substantial reduction of shallow soil water storage and DsR is detrimental for the long-term development of PSM forest.Therefore,it is necessary to reduce PSM density to cut the water consumption by PSM per unit area,thus to augment the shallow SWS and DSR,which will be beneficial for the PSM to survive under extreme drought conditions in the future.This study helps us understand the role of precipitationinduced groundwater recharge in the process of vegetation restoration in semi-arid regions and explains thepossiblecauses of PSM forest degradation. | Yiben Cheng Hongbin Zhan Wenbin Yang Wei Feng Qi Lu Yunqi Wang Qunou Jiang Bin Wang Mingchang Shi Tao Wang Zhiming Xin Ruifang Hao | 2023 | International Soil and Water Conservation Research2023,11,3: | 0 |
