1Removal of bentazone from micro-polluted water using MIEX resin:Kinetics,equilibrium,and mechanism显示文摘The contamination of surface and ground water by bentazone has attracted increasing global concern in recent years.We conducted a detailed investigation using MIEX resin to eliminate bentazone from waters.Batch experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of process parameters,such as retention time,resin amount,and initial pesticide concentration,on removal efficiency of bentazone.Results showed the sorption process was fast and bentazone could be efficiently removed in 30 minutes.The kinetic process of bentazone sorption on MIEX resin was well described by pseudo second-order model and intraparticle diffusion was the rate controlling step.The MIEX resin possessed the highest sorption capacity of 0.2656 mmol/mL for bentazone according to Langmuir fitting.Bentazone is a hydrophobic ionizable organic compound,and both ionic charge and hydrophobic aromatic structure governed the sorption characteristics on MIEX resin.The different removal efficiencies of ionic and non-ionic pesticides,combined with the charge balance equations of bentazone,SO 4 2,NO 3 and Cl,indicated that removal of bentazone using MIEX resin occurred primarily via ion exchange.Zequn Liu Xiaomin Yan Mary Drikas Danong Zhou DongshengWang Min Yang Jiuhui Qu 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,3:6
2Compound Danshen Dripping Pill inhibits hypercholesterolemia/atherosclerosis-induced heart failure in ApoE and LDLR dual deficient mice via multiple mechanisms显示文摘Heart failure is the leading cause of death worldwide.Compound Danshen Dripping Pill(CDDP)or CDDP combined with simvastatin has been widely used to treat patients with myocardial infarction and other cardiovascular diseases in China.However,the effect of CDDP on hypercholesterolemia/atherosclerosis-induced heart failure is unknown.We constructed a new model of heart failure induced by hypercholesterolemia/atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E(ApoE)and LDL receptor(LDLR)dual deficient(ApoE^(–/–)LDLR^(–/–))mice and investigated the effect of CDDP or CDDP plus a low dose of simvastatin on the heart failure.CDDP or CDDP plus a low dose of simvastatin inhibited heart injury by multiple actions including anti-myocardial dysfunction and anti-fibrosis.Mechanistically,both Wnt and lysine-specific demethylase 4A(KDM4A)pathways were significantly activated in mice with heart injury.Conversely,CDDP or CDDP plus a low dose of simvastatin inhibited Wnt pathway by markedly up-regulating expression of Wnt inhibitors.While the anti-inflammation and anti-oxidative stress by CDDP were achieved by inhibiting KDM4A expression and activity.In addition,CDDP attenuated simvastatin-induced myolysis in skeletal muscle.Taken together,our study suggests that CDDP or CDDP plus a low dose of simvastatin can be an effective therapy to reduce hypercholesterolemia/atherosclerosis-induced heart failure.Yanfang Yang Ke Feng Liying Yuan Yuxin Liu Mengying Zhang Kaimin Guo Zequn Yin Wenjia Wang Shuiping Zhou He Sun Kaijing Yan Xijun Yan Xuerui Wang Yajun Duan Yunhui Hu Jihong Han 2023Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2023,13,3:2
3A Thermochromic, Viscoelastic Nacre-like Nanocomposite for the Smart Thermal Management of Planar Electronics显示文摘Cutting-edge heat spreaders for soft and planar electronics require not only high thermal conductivity and a certain degree of flexibility but also remarkable self-adhesion without thermal interface materials, elasticity, arbitrary elongation along with soft devices, and smart properties involving thermal self-healing, thermochromism and so on. Nacre-like composites with excellent in-plane heat dissipation are ideal as heat spreaders for thin and planar electronics. However, the intrinsically poor viscoelasticity, i.e., adhesion and elasticity, prevents them from simultaneous self-adhesion and arbitrary elongation along with current flexible devices as well as incurring high interfacial thermal impedance. In this paper, we propose a soft thermochromic composite(STC) membrane with a layered structure, considerable stretchability, high in-plane thermal conductivity(~30 Wm^(-1) K^(-1)), low thermal contact resistance(~12 mm^2 KW^(-1), 4–5 times lower than that of silver paste), strong yet sustainable adhesion forces(~4607 Jm^(-2), 2220 Jm^(-2) greater than that of epoxy paste) and self-healing efficiency. As a self-adhesive heat spreader, it implements efficient cooling of various soft electronics with a temperature drop of 20℃ than the polyimide case. 5Long non-coding RNA SNHG14 aggravates LPS-induced acute kidney injury through regulating miR-495-3p/HIPK1显示文摘Acute kidney injury(AKI)is a complex syndrome with an abrupt decrease of kidney function,which is associated with high morbidity and mortality.Sepsis is the common cause of AKI.Mounting evidence has demonstrated that long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs)play critical roles in the development and progression of sepsis-induced AKI.In this study,we aimed to illustrate the function and mechanism of lncRNA SNHG14 in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced AKI.We found that SNHG14 was highly expressed in the plasma of sepsis patients with AKI.SNHG14 inhibited cell proliferation and autophagy and promoted cell apoptosis and inflammatory cytokine production in LPS-stimulated HK-2 cells.Functionally,SNHG14 acted as a competing endogenous RNA(ceRNA)to negatively regulate miR-495-3p expression in HK-2 cells.Furthermore,we identified that HIPK1 is a direct target of miR-495-3p in HK-2 cells.We also revealed that the SNHG14/miR-495-3p/HIPK1 interaction network regulated HK-2 cell proliferation,apoptosis,autophagy,and inflammatory cytokine production upon LPS stimulation.In addition,we demonstrated that the SNHG14/miR-495-3p/HIPK1 interaction network regulated the production of inflammatory cytokines(TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-1β)via modulating NF-κB/p65 signaling in LPS-challenged HK-2 cells.In conclusion,our findings suggested a novel therapeutic axis of SNHG14/miR-495-3p/HIPK1 to treat sepsis-induced AKI.Ni Yang Hai Wang Li Zhang Junhua Lv Zequn Niu Jie Liu Zhengliang Zhang 2021Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,6:1
6Prioritization of risk genes in colorectal cancer by integrative analysis of multi-omics data and gene networks显示文摘Genome-wide association studies(GWASs)have identified over 140 colorectal cancer(CRC)-associated loci;however,target genes at the majority of loci and underlying molecular mechanisms are poorly understood.Here,we utilized a Bayesian approach,integrative risk gene selector(iRIGS),to prioritize risk genes at CRC GWAS loci by integrating multi-omics data.As a result,a total of 105 high-confidence risk genes(HRGs)were identified,which exhibited strong gene dependencies for CRC and enrichment in the biological processes implicated in CRC.Among the 105 HRGs,CEBPB,located at the 20q13.13 locus,acted as a transcription factor playing critical roles in cancer.Our subsequent assays indicated the tumor promoter function of CEBPB that facilitated CRC cell proliferation by regulating multiple oncogenic pathways such as MAPK,PI3K-Akt,and Ras signaling.Next,by integrating a fine-mapping analysis and three independent case-control studies in Chinese populations consisting of 8,039 cases and 12,775 controls,we elucidated that rs1810503,a putative functional variant regulating CEBPB,was associated with CRC risk(OR=0.90,95%CI=0.86–0.93,P=1.07×10^(−7)).The association between rs1810503 and CRC risk was further validated in three additional multi-ancestry populations consisting of 24,254 cases and 58,741 controls.Mechanistically,the rs1810503 A to T allele change weakened the enhancer activity in an allele-specific manner to decrease CEBPB expression via longrange promoter-enhancer interactions,mediated by the transcription factor,REST,and thus decreased CRC risk.In summary,our study provides a genetic resource and a generalizable strategy for CRC etiology investigation,and highlights the biological implications of CEBPB in CRC tumorigenesis,shedding new light on the etiology of CRC.Ming Zhang Xiaoyang Wang Nan Yang Xu Zhu Zequn Lu Yimin Cai Bin Li Ying Zhu Xiangpan Li Yongchang Wei Shaokai Zhang Jianbo Tian Xiaoping Miao 2024Science China(Life Sciences)2024,67,1:0
7Clinical characteristics and risk factors of COVID-19 patients with chronic hepatitis B:a multi-center retrospective cohort study显示文摘The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has spread globally.Although mixed liver impairment has been reported in COVID-19 patients,the association of liver injury caused by specific subtype especially chronic hepatitis B(CHB)with COVID-19 has not been elucidated.In this multi-center,retrospective,and observational cohort study,109 CHB and 327 non-CHB patients with COVID-19 were propensity score matched at an approximate ratio of 3:1 on the basis of age,sex,and comorbidities.Demographic characteristics,laboratory examinations,disease severity,and clinical outcomes were compared.Furthermore,univariable and multivariable logistic and Cox regression models were used to explore the risk factors for disease severity and mortality,respectively.A higher proportion of CHB patients(30 of 109(27.52%))developed into severe status than non-CHB patients(17 of 327(5.20%)).In addition to previously reported liver impairment markers,such as alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,alkaline phosphatase,and total bilirubin,we identified several novel risk factors including elevated lactate dehydrogenase(≥245 U/L,hazard ratio(HR)=8.639,95%confidence interval(CI)=2.528–29.523;P<0.001)and coagulation-related biomarker D-dimer(≥0.5μg/mL,HR=4.321,95%CI=1.443–12.939;P=0.009)and decreased albumin(<35 g/L,HR=0.131,95%CI=0.048–0.361;P<0.001)and albumin/globulin ratio(<1.5,HR=0.123,95%CI=0.017–0.918;P=0.041).In conclusion,COVID-19 patients with CHB were more likely to develop into severe illness and die.The risk factors that we identified may be helpful for early clinical surveillance of critical progression.Jing Wang Zequn Lu Meng Jin Ying Wang Kunming Tian Jun Xiao Yimin Cai Yanan Wang Xu Zhang Tao Chen Zhi Yao Chunguang Yang Renli Deng Qiang Zhong Xiongbo Deng Xin Chen Xiang-ping Yang Gonghong Wei Zhihua Wang Jianbo Tian Xiao-ping Chen 2022Frontiers of Medicine2022,16,1:0

10Electrically programmable phase-change photonic memory for optical neural networks with nanoseconds in situ training capability显示文摘Optical neural networks (ONNs), enabling low latency and high parallel data processing withoutelectromagnetic interference, have become a viable player for fast and energy-efficient processing andcalculation to meet the increasing demand for hash rate. Photonic memories employing nonvolatile phase-change materials could achieve zero static power consumption, low thermal cross talk, large-scale, andhigh-energy-efficient photonic neural networks. Nevertheless, the switching speed and dynamic energyconsumption of phase-change material-based photonic memories make them inapplicable for in situ training.Here, by integrating a patch of phase change thin film with a PIN-diode-embedded microring resonator,a bifunctional photonic memory enabling both 5-bit storage and nanoseconds volatile modulation wasdemonstrated. For the first time, a concept is presented for electrically programmable phase-changematerial-driven photonic memory integrated with nanosecond modulation to allow fast in situ training and zerostatic power consumption data processing in ONNs. ONNs with an optical convolution kernel constructedby our photonic memory theoretically achieved an accuracy of predictions higher than 95% when testedby the MNIST handwritten digit database. 11Culture of patient-derived multicellular clusters in suspended hydrogel capsules for pre-clinical personalized drug screening显示文摘A personalized medication regimen provides precise treatment for an individual and can be guided by pre-clinical drug screening.The economical and high-efficiency simulation of the liver tumor microenvironment(TME)in a drug-screening model has high value yet challenging to accomplish.Herein,we propose a simulation of the liver TME with suspended alginate-gelatin hydrogel capsules encapsulating patient-derived liver tumor multicellular clusters,and the culture of patient-derived tumor organoids(PDTOs)for personalized pre-clinical drug screening.The hydrogel capsule offers a 3D matrix environment with mechanical and biological properties similar to those of the liver in vivo.As a result,18 of the 28 patient-derived multicellular clusters were successfully cultured as PDTOs.These PDTOs,along with hepatocyte growth factor(HGF)of non-cellular components,preserve stromal cells,including cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAFs)and vascular endothelial cells(VECs).They also maintain stable expression of molecular markers and tumor heterogeneity similar to those of the original liver tumors.Drugs,including cabazitaxel,oxaliplatin,and sorafenib,were tested in PDTOs.The sensitivity of PDTOs to these drugs differs between individuals.The sensitivity of one PDTO to oxaliplatin was validated using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)and biochemical tests after oxaliplatin clinical treatment of the corresponding patient.Therefore,this approach is promising for economical,accurate,and high-throughput drug screening for personalized treatment.Haijiang Dong Zequn Li Suchen Bian Guangyuan Song Wenfeng Song Mingqi Zhang Haiyang Xie Shusen Zheng Xuxu Yang Tiefeng Li Penghong Song 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,12:0
12Machine learning predicting and engineering the yield,N content,and specific surface area of biochar derived from pyrolysis of biomass显示文摘Biochar produced from pyrolysis of biomass has been developed as a platform carbonaceous material that can be used in various applications.The specific surface area(SSA)and functionalities such as N-containing functional groups of biochar are the most significant properties determining the application performance of biochar as a carbon material in various areas,such as removal of pollutants,adsorption of CO_(2)and H2,catalysis,and energy storage.Producing biochar with preferable SSA and N functional groups is among the frontiers to engineer biochar materials.This study attempted to build machine learning models to predict and optimize specific surface area of biochar(SSA-char),N content of biochar(N-char),and yield of biochar(Yield-char)individually or simultaneously,by using elemental,proximate,and biochemical compositions of biomass and pyrolysis conditions as input variables.The predictions of Yield-char,N-char,and SSA-char were compared by using random forest(RF)and gradient boosting regression(GBR)models.GBR outperformed RF for most predictions.When input parameters included elemental and proximate compositions as well as pyrolysis conditions,the test R^(2) values for the single-target and multi-target GBR models were 0.90-0.95 except for the two-target prediction of Yield-char and SSA-char which had a test R^(2) of 0.84 and the three-target prediction model which had a test R^(2) of 0.81.As indicated by the Pearson correlation coefficient between variables and the feature importance of these GBR models,the top influencing factors toward predicting three targets were specified as follows:pyrolysis temperature,residence time,and fixed carbon for Yield-char;N and ash for N-char;ash and pyrolysis temperature for SSA-char.The effects of these parameters on three targets were different,but the trade-offs of these three were balanced during multi-target ML prediction and optimization.The optimum solutions were then experimentally verified,which opens a new way for designing smart biochar with target properties and oriented application potential.Lijian Leng Lihong Yang Xinni Lei Weijin Zhang Zejian Ai Zequn Yang Hao Zhan Jianping Yang Xingzhong Yuan Haoyi Peng Hailong Li 2022Biochar2022,4,1:0
13All-in-one phototheranostics based on BTP-4F-DMO nanoparticles for NIR-II fluorescence/photoacoustic dual-mode imaging and combinational therapy显示文摘Various phototheranostics have recently been developed for phototherapy.Through proper molecular design,the photochemical and photophysical properties of these phototheranostics can be promoted.Herein,an acceptor-donor-acceptor(A-D-A)-structured dye,BTP-4F-DMO,was synthesized and prepared into water-soluble nanoparticles(NPs).The obtained BTP-4F-DMO NPs had strong absorption from650 nm to 850 nm and a fluorescence emission peak at~900 nm that tailed to~1100 nm.The NPs showed a superhigh photothermal conversion efficiency of 90.5%±5%and could simultaneously generate·OH and^(1)O_(2)with a^(1)O_(2)generation quantum yield of 4.6%under 808 nm laser irradiation.Due to these advanced properties,BTP-4F-DMO NPs can switch the role of autophagy from pro-survival to prodeath,thereby further promoting cancer cell death.These features make BTP-4F-DMO NPs a promising multifunctional phototheranostic agent for NIR-II fluorescence/photoacoustic dual-mode imaging-guided synergetic photodynamic/photothermal therapy.In general,this work provides a strategy for expanding the biomedical applications of organic A-D-A-structured phototheranostics.Ke Yang Bowen Yu Wei Liu Zequn Zhang Li Huang Shaojing Zhao Benhua Wang Jianing Yi Jun Yuan Yingping Zou Changwei Lin Xiangzhi Song Minhuan Lan 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,6:0
14Systematic analysis on expression quantitative trait loci identifies a novel regulatory variant in ring finger and WD repeat domain 3 associated with prognosis of pancreatic cancer显示文摘Background:Pancreatic adenocarcinoma(PAAD)is an extremely lethal malignancy.Identification of the functional genes and genetic variants related to PAAD prognosis is important and challenging.Previously identified prognostic genes from several expression profile analyses were inconsistent.The regulatory genetic variants that affect PAAD prognosis were largely unknown.Methods:Firstly,a meta-analysis was performed with seven published datasets to systematically explore the candidate prognostic genes for PAAD.Next,to identify the regulatory variants for those candidate genes,expression quantitative trait loci analysis was implemented with PAAD data resources from The Cancer Genome Atlas.Then,a two-stage association study in a total of 893 PAAD patients was conducted to interrogate the regulatory variants and find the prognostic locus.Finally,a series of biochemical experiments and phenotype assays were carried out to demonstrate the biological function of variation and genes in PAAD progression process.Results:A total of 128 genes were identified associated with the PAAD prognosis in the meta-analysis.Fourteen regulatory loci in 12 of the 128 genes were discovered,among which,only rs4887783,the functional variant in the promoter of Ring Finger and WD Repeat Domain 3(RFWD3),presented significant association with PAAD prognosis in both stages of the population study.Dualluciferase reporter and electrophoretic mobility shift assays demonstrated that rs4887783-G allele,which predicts the worse prognosis,enhanced the binding of transcript factor REST,thus elevating RFWD3 expression.Further phenotypic assays revealed that excess expression of RFWD3 promoted tumor cell migration without affecting their proliferation rate.RFWD3 was highly expressed in PAAD and might orchestrate the genes in the DNA repair process.Conclusions:RFWD3 and its regulatory variant are novel genetic factors for PAAD prognosis.Ying Zhu Xiating Peng Xiaoyang Wang Pingting Ying Haoxue Wang Bin Li Yue Li Ming Zhang Yimin Cai Zequn Lu Siyuan Niu Nan Yang Rong Zhong Jianbo Tian Jiang Chang Xiaoping Miao 2022Chinese Medical Journal2022,,11:0
15Apigenin ameliorates imiquimod-induced psoriasis in C57BL/6J mice by inactivating STAT3 and NF-κB显示文摘Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease featured by patches on the skin.It is caused by malfunction of immune cells and keratinocytes with inflammation as one of its key features.Apigenin(API)is a natural flavonoid with anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties.Therefore,we speculated that API can ameliorate psoriasis,and determined its effect on the development of psoriasis by using imiquimod(IMQ)-induced psoriasis mouse model.Our results showed that API attenuated IMQ-induced phenotypic changes,such as erythema,scaling and epidermal thickening,and improved splenic hyperplasia.Abnormal differentiation of immune cells was restored in API-treated mice.Mechanistically,we revealed that API is a key regulator of signal transducer activator of transcription 3(STAT3).API regulated immune responses by reducing interleukin-23(IL-23)/STAT3/IL-17A axis.Moreover,it suppressed IMQ-caused cell hyperproliferation by inactivating STAT3 through regulation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 and nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)pathway.Furthermore,API reduced expression of inflammatory cytokines through inactivation of NF-κB.Taken together,our study demonstrates that API can ameliorate psoriasis and may be considered as a strategy for psoriasis treatment.Xianshe Meng Shihong Zheng Zequn Yin Xuerui Wang Daigang Yang Tingfeng Zou Huaxin Li Yuanli Chen Chenzhong Liao Zhouling Xie Xiaodong Fan Jihong Han Yajun Duan Xiaoxiao Yang 2024Food Science and Human Wellness2024,13,1:0
