| 2 | Comparison of the Accuracy of Canon KU-1 IOL Measurer and VPLUS A/B Scanner in Axial Length Measurement显示文摘Purpose: To evaluate the accuracy of Canon KU-1 IOL measurer (Japanese Canon Company) and VPLUS A/B scanner (French Quantel Company) in axial length (AL)measurement.Methods:Canon KU-1 IOL measurer and VPLUS A/B scanner were used to measure axial length of human cataractous eyes before cataract surgery. Two hundred and twentytwo cases (433 eyes) were involved. The results were compared and the postoperative visual acuity, refractive results were recorded during the follow-ups to evaluate the accuracy of the two instruments.Results:In the 222 cases (433 eyes), the absolute value of the measurement differences was 0.4 mm or above in 35 eyes, 0.8 mm or above in 17 eyes, 1.2 mm or above in 12 eyes,2.0mm or above in 5 eyes. The refractive error was less than 2.0D in all patients. | 3 | The effect of carbon nanotubes on osteogenic functions of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells in vitro and bone formation in vivo compared with that of nano-hydroxyapatite and the possible mechanism显示文摘It has been well recognized that the development and use of artificial materials with high osteogenic ability is one of the most promising means to replace bone grafting that has exhibited various negative effects.The biomimetic features and unique physiochemical properties of nanomaterials play important roles in stimulating cellular functions and guiding tissue regeneration.But efficacy degree of some nanomaterials to promote specific tissue formation is still not clear.We hereby comparatively studied the osteogenic ability of our treated multiwalled carbon nanotubes(MCNTs)and the main inorganic mineral component of natural bone,nano-hydroxyapatite(nHA)in the same system,and tried to tell the related mechanism.In vitro culture of human adiposederived mesenchymal stem cells(HASCs)on the MCNTs and nHA demonstrated that although there was no significant difference in the cell adhesion amount between on the MCNTs and nHA,the cell attachment strength and proliferation on the MCNTs were better.Most importantly,the MCNTs could induce osteogenic differentiation of the HASCs better than the nHA,the possible mechanism of which was found to be that the MCNTs could activate Notch involved signaling pathways by concentrating more proteins,including specific bone-inducing ones.Moreover,the MCNTs could induce ectopic bone formation in vivo while the nHA could not,which might be because MCNTs could stimulate inducible cells in tissues to form inductive bone better than nHA by concentrating more proteins including specific bone-inducing ones secreted from M2 macrophages.Therefore,MCNTs might be more effective materials for accelerating bone formation even than nHA. | Zhipo Du Xinxing Feng Guangxiu Cao Zhending She Rongwei Tan Katerina E.Aifantis Ruihong Zhang Xiaoming Li | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,2: | 3 |
| 4 | Hollow Co/CoO/Carbon nanofibers promoted PMS decomposition for the degradation of Rhodamine B显示文摘Carbon nanofibers with hollow structures have an excellent application prospect in various fields be-cause of their high specific surface area and abundant active sites.PAN-based hollow carbon nanofiber doped with Co/CoO(H-Co/CoO-CNF)was successfully prepared and used as a catalyst to activate perox-ymonosulfate(PMS)and degrade Rhodamine B(RhB).The catalyst showed a surprising degradation rate(98.89%)of RhB within 15 min and had good degradation performance in a wide pH range(pH 1.5-11.2).Compared with solid fibers,H-Co/CoO-CNF shows better cyclic characteristics.The catalyst is also mag-netic and recoverable easily due to the addition of Co/CoO.Two pathways of both radical(SO_(4)·^(−))and non-radical(^(1)O_(2))exist during the RhB degradation process are confirmed through electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)analysis and radical quenching experiments.This work provides a new idea for hollow fibers loaded with metals and their oxides and can guide the development of catalysts for advanced oxi-dation processes in the future. | Zhende Li Xiaoyan Zhang Guangzhen Li Fengjin Han Dongqi Hu Xiaoyu Huang Hua Yuan Yeqiang Tan | 2023 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,26: | 1 |
| 5 | Non-trans-scleral Suture Fixation of Posterior Chamber Intraocular Lenses in the Absence of Posterior Capsular Support显示文摘Purpose: To develop a new technique for fixation of posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) in the absence of posterior capsule support.Materials and Methods: We performed non-trans-scleral fixation of intraocular lenses on 24 cases (24 eyes) without posterior capsule support. Two scleral flaps with limbal incisions and two peripheral iridectomies were made at 1 o' clock and 7 o' clock positions respectively. A suture-leading needle was used to lead the prolene suture from the limbal incision and iridectomy on one side through the iridectomy and limbal incision on the other side. Intraocular lens (IOL) was then fixed in the ciliary sulcus. Results: After a mean follow-up of 6. 6 months (range from 3 to 14 months), corrected visual acuity of 16 cases (16 eyes,66. 7% ) got 0.5 or better. Postoperative complications included discoria (4 eyes) , surface membrane formation ( 1 eye ), choroidal detachment (1 eye) and tilt of IOL (1 eyes),but all were not severe. | 6 | Genetic insight of the H5N1 hemagglutinin cleavage site显示文摘The cleavability of the hemagglutinin (HA) plays a major role in virulence of avian influenza viruses. Detailed analyses of the cleavage sequences and their evolution would give insights into the high pathogenicity of the H5N1 virus. HA segments were visually identifiable in the cellular automata (CA) image, and a feature gene segment (FGS) was only found in H5N1 rather than any other subtype. This FGS is a 30-bp gene segment mainly consisting of ‘A’ and ‘G’. When translated into amino acids the FGS converted into a sequence of mainly basic amino acids with positive charges. This feature amino acid segment (FAAS) was located in the cleavage site loop of HA which was potentially cleavable by various proteases. The 3D structure of H5N1 HA was reconstructed using homology modelling. It was found that the cleavage site loop was well exposed to potential proteases. The molecular surfaces were reconstructed to study how mutation and deletion of some amino acids in the FAAS affected the charge distribution. It was found that some mutations had severely changed the landscape of the charge dis- tribution. Statistical analyses of FAAS were made with respect to when and where the H5N1 viruses were found. In 2005, there were less un-mutated FAAS than the other years according to temporal evolution, and more mutated FAAS appeared in China than other regions according to geographic dis- tribution.
