The compositions, sources, and size distribution of the dust storm from China in spring of 2000 and its impact on the global environment显示文摘The average mass concentration of the aerosols in Beijing during the dust storm in the spring of 2000 was -6000 μg · m-3, -30 times as high as that in the non-dust storm days. The enrichment factors of the pollution elements As, Sb and Se were higher than those in the non-dust storm days. This indicated that As, Sb and Se resulted from the pollution sources of those areas, through which the dust storm passed during their long-range transport, in addition to the local pollution sources in Beijing. The enrichment factors of the Pb, Zn, Cd and Cu were much less than those in the non-dust storm days, suggesting that the local pollution sources in Beijing area contributed to them mostly. The enrichment factors of elements Al, Fe, Sc, Mn, Na, Ni, Cr, V and Co were close to 1, showing that these elements originated from crust. The concentration of S in the dust storm was -10 μg · m-3,4 times as high as that in non-dust storm. S in the aerosols resulted from the adsorption of gaseous SO2 and the consequent | Guoshun Zhuang Jinghua Guo Hui Yuan Chengyi Zhao | 2001 | Chinese Science Bulletin2001,46,11: | 44
Magnetostratigraphy and palaeoclimate of Red Clay sequences from Chinese Loess Plateau显示文摘Two Red Clay profiles near Xi’ an and Xifeng were investigated in an attempt to determine magne-tostratigraphic and palaeoclimatic records. The results show that aeolian dust accumulation and the related East Asia palaeomonsoon system had begun by 6.5 Ma, and it is deduced that the Tibetan Plateau had reached a significant elevation at that time. The late Tertiary palaeoclimatic history of the Red Clay as reflected by magnetic susceptibility is reconstructed during the period of 6.5-2.5 Ma. Stepwise increase in susceptibility of aeolian dust accumulation appears to have a close correlation to the uplift processes of the Tibetan Plateau. The remarkable increase of aeolian dust accumulation at 3.2 Ma appears to be due to the influence of global ice volume on the East Asia monsoon. Palaeomonsoon variation during the late Tertiary as recorded in the Red Clay sequences from the Chinese Loess Plateau can be regarded as the product of a number of interacting factors, such as uplift of the Tibetan Plateau, | 孙东怀 刘东生 陈明扬 安芷生 John Shaw | 1997 | Science China Earth Sciences1997,40,4: | 27
Saline dust storms and their ecological impacts in arid regions显示文摘In many arid and semiarid regions, saline playas represent a significant source of unconsoli-dated sediments available for aeolian transport, and severe saline dust storms occur frequently due to human disturbance. In this study, saline dust storms are reviewed systematically from the aspects of con-cept,general characteristics, conditions of occurrence, distribution and ecological impact. Our researches showed that saline dust storms are a kind of chemical dust storm originating in dry lake beds in arid and semiarid regions;large areas of unconsolidated saline playa sediments and frequent strong winds are the basic factors to saline dust storm occurrence;there are differentiation characteristics in deposition flux and chemical composition with wind-blown distance during saline dust storm diffusion;and saline dust storm diffusion to some extent increases glacier melt and results in soil salinization in arid regions. An under-standing of saline dust storms is important to guide disaster prevention and ecological rehabilitation. | Jilili Abuduwaili | 2010 | Journal of Arid Land2010,2,2: | 21
Local and non-local sources of airborne particulate pollution at Beijing——The ratio of Mg/Al as an element tracer for estimating the contributions of mineral aerosols from outside Beijing显示文摘A new element tracer technique has firstly been established to estimate the contributions of mineral aerosols from both inside and outside Beijing. The ratio of Mg/Al in aerosol is a feasible element tracer to distinguish between the sources of inside and outside Beijing. Mineral aerosol, inorganic pollution aerosol mainly as sulfate and nitrate, and organic aerosol are the major components of airborne particulates in Beijing, of which mineral aerosol accounted for 32%―67% of total suspended particles (TSP), 10%―70% of fine particles (PM2.5), and as high as 74% and 90% of TSP and PM2.5, respectively, in dust storm. The sources from outside Beijing contributed 62% (38%―86%) of the total mineral aerosols in TSP, 69% (52%―90%) in PM10, and 76% (59%―93%) in PM2.5 in spring, and 69% (52%―83%), 79% (52%―93%), and 45% (7%―79%) in TSP, PM10, and PM2.5, respectively, in winter, while only ~20% in summer and autumn. The sources from outside Beijing contributed as high as 97% during dust storm and were the dominant source of airborne particulates in Beijing. The contributions from outside Beijing in spring and winter are higher than those in summer, indicating clearly that it was related to the various meteorological factors. | HAN Lihui1, ZHUANG Guoshun1,2,3, SUN Yele1 & WANG Zifa3 1. | 5 | Analysis on the decadal scale variation of the dust storm in North China显示文摘In this paper, the temporal variation characteristics of the dust storm in North China are investigated. Based on power spectrum analysis and wavelet analysis, 1956-1970 and 1985-1999 are chosen as the high-frequency and low-frequency dust storm decades respectively. Analysis results clearly show that the spring and wintertime anomalous atmospheric circulation between these two dec-ades are significantly different. Compared with the former decade, there are a strengthened polar vortex, enhanced westerlies near 50°N, and a weak East Asian major though in the winter of the latter decade. The north and center parts of the Siberian high and the Aleutian low become weak. The southerly and easterly wind anomalies appear over the north and east parts of China, which implies the weakening of East Asian winter monsoon. Meanwhile, northern China experiences warmer winters and wetter springs, which are in favor of the weakening of dust storm intensity in North China. There are significant out-of-phase relationships between dust frequency and wintertime westerly intensity, as well as between dust frequency and Arctic Oscillation. It is also found that the frequency of dust weather is strongly re-lated to winter-springtime East Asian monsoon intensity. | KANG Dujuan1,2 & WANG Huijun1 1. | 6 | Atmospheric particulate pollution of Lanzhou using magnetic measurements显示文摘To differentiate between natural and anthropogenic particulate sources in the atmosphere in Lanzhou City, samples were collected in different sites. The dust flux was calculated and magnetic measurements were conducted. Results show a distinct pattern of variation of dust flux within a year and it agrees with the shifts of atmospheric circulation regime. The magnetic parameters indicate that natural sources are the major components of atmospheric particulate during late spring and early summer, while anthropogenic sources contribute much more during winter months. The data also support the earlier findings that magnetic parameters are effective for differentiating between particulate arising from natural sources such as soil erosion and from anthropogenic sources such as coal combustion. | Chen Fa\|hu, Yang Li\|ping, Wang Jian\|min, Zhang Jia\|wu Institute of Environment & Hazards, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou 730000, China. | 7 | Great progress in study on aerosol and its impact on the global environment显示文摘The transport from atmosphere is a more important pathway than that from rivers for certain elements and compounds in the remote ocean. The desert and those arid/semi-arid areas in the northwest of China and the Loess Plateau are the sources of those aerosols over the Pacific. Atmospheric iron is the limiting factor of the productivity in certain ocean regions. The dust storms must now be seen as repeated sources of pollution elements as well as soil elements to the East China Sea and, farther out, to the North Pacific Ocean and even to the USA. The long-range transport of aerosols, especially the dust storm, from China and the positive feedbacks of iron coupled with sulfur in atmosphere might be one of the important mechanisms that would affect the primary productivity in the Pacific and/or the global climate change and deserve to be further studied. It can be seen clearly that the dust storms would affect not only the health of human beings and the local or regional climate, but also the global climate change that has been the focus of environmental study internationally. | ZHUANG Guoshun, HUANG Ronghui, WANG Mingxing, Q. | 8 | Mineralogical characteristics of airborne particles collected in Beijing during a severe Asian dust storm period in spring 2002显示文摘Asian dust storm (ADS) samples were collected on March 20,2002 in Beijing,China. High-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray detector (FESEM-EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to study the morphology, chemical compositions,number-size dis-tributions and mineralogical compositions of ADS particles. The mineral particles were major compo-nents in the ADS samples, accounting for 94% by number. The XRD analysis indicated that the dust particles were dominated by clay (40.3%),and quartz (19.5%),followed by plagioclase (8.4%),calcite (7.5%),K-feldspar (1.5%),hematite (0.9%),pyrite (0.9%),hornblende (0.4%) and gypsum (0.3%),with a certain amount of noncrystalline materials (20.3%). Clay minerals were mainly illite/smectite mixed lay-ers (78%),followed by illite (9%),kaolinite (6%),and chlorite (7%). In addition to these main minerals,FESEM-EDX also detected some trace minerals, such as dolomite, pyrite, thenardite,as well as heavy minerals represented by rutile, ilmenite and apatite. The mineralogical compositions of the 2002-03-20 Asian dust storm and the Saharan dust plumes were similar but the clay mineralogy showed a great distinction, with the illite/smectite mixed layers being common in the Asian dust storm but illite being common in the Saharan dust plumes. | SHAO LongYi LI WeiJun YANG ShuShen SHI ZongBo LÜ SenLin | 2007 | Science China Earth Sciences2007,50,6: | 11
Climatic and environmental changes over the last millennium recorded in the Malan ice core from the northern Tibetan Plateau显示文摘In this paper, climatic and environmental changes were reconstructed since 1129A.D. based on the Malan ice core from Hol Xil, the northern Tibetan Plateau. The record of δ 18O in the Malan ice core indicated that the warm-season air temperature variations displayed a general increase trend, the 20th-century warming was within the range of natural climate variability, and the warmest century was the 17th century while the warmest decade was the 1610s, over the entire study period. The “Medieval Warm Epoch” and “Little Ice Age” were also reflected by the ice core record. The dust ratio in the Malan ice core is a good proxy for dust event frequency. The 870-year record of the dust ratio showed that dust events occurred much frequently in the 19th century. Comparing the variations of δ 18O and the dust ratio, it is found that there was a strong negative correlation between them on the time scales of 101―102 years. By analyses of all the climatic records of ice cores and tree rings from the northern Tibetan Plateau, it was revealed that dust events were more frequent in the cold and dry periods than in the warm and wet periods. | WANG Ninglian1,2, YAO Tandong2,1, PU Jianchen1, ZHANG Yongliang1 & SUN Weizhen1 1. | 10 | Analysis of the severe group dust storms in eastern part of Northwest China显示文摘Based on the available original dust storm records from 60 meteorological stations, we discussed the identification standard of severe dust storms at a single station and constructed a quite complete time series of severe group dust storms in the eastern part of Northwest China in 1954-2001.The result shows that there were 99 severe group dust storms in this region in recent 48 years. The spatial distribution indicates that the Alax Plateau, most parts of the Ordos Plateau and most parts of the Hexi Corridor are the main areas influenced by severe group dust storms. In addition, the seasonand the month with the most frequent severe group dust storms are spring and April, accounting for 78.8% and 41.4% of the total events respectively. During the past 48 years the lowest rate of severe group dust storms occurred in the 1990s. Compared with the other 4 decades, on the average, the duration and the affected area of severe group dust storms are relatively short and small during the 1990s. In 2000 and 2001, there were separately 4 severe group dust storms as the higher value after 1983 in the eastern part of Northwest China. | ZHOU Zijiang, WANG Xiwen(1. | 11 | Prediction of air flow, methane, and coal dust dispersion in a room and pillar mining face显示文摘In underground coal mines, uncontrolled accumulation of methane and fine coal dust often leads to serious incidents such as explosion. Therefore, methane and dust dispersion in underground mines is closely monitored and strictly regulated. Accordingly, significant efforts have been devoted to study methane and dust dispersion in underground mines. In this study, methane emission and dust concentration are numerically investigated using a computational fluid dynamics(CFD) approach. Various possible scenarios of underground mine configurations are evaluated. The results indicate that the presence of continuous miner adversely affects the air flow and leads to increased methane and dust concentrations.Nevertheless, it is found that such negative effect can be minimized or even neutralized by operating the scrubber fan in suction mode. In addition, it was found that the combination of scrubber fan in suction mode and brattice results in the best performance in terms of methane and dust removal from the mining face. | Lu Yueze Akhtar Saad Sasmito Agus P. | 12 | Prediction model for spring dust weather frequency in North China显示文摘It is of great social and scientific importance and also very difficult to make reliable prediction for dust weather frequency (DWF) in North China. In this paper, the correlation between spring DWF in Beijing and Tianjin observation stations, taken as examples in North China, and seasonally averaged surface air temperature, precipitation, Arctic Oscillation, Antarctic Oscillation, South Oscillation, near surface meridional wind and Eurasian westerly index is respectively calculated so as to construct a prediction model for spring DWF in North China by using these climatic factors. Two prediction models, i.e. model-I and model-II, are then set up respectively based on observed climate data and the 32-year (1970 -2001) extra-seasonal hindcast experiment data as reproduced by the nine-level Atmospheric General Circulation Model developed at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP9L-AGCM). It is indicated that the correlation coefficient between the observed and predicted DWF reaches 0.933 in the model-I, suggesting a high prediction skill one season ahead. The corresponding value is high up to 0.948 for the subsequent model-II, which involves synchronous spring climate data reproduced by the IAP9L-AGCM relative to the model-I. The model-II can not only make more precise prediction but also can bring forward the lead time of real-time prediction from the model-I’s one season to half year. At last, the real-time predictability of the two models is evaluated. It follows that both the models display high prediction skill for both the interannual variation and linear trend of spring DWF in North China, and each is also featured by different advantages. As for the model-II, the prediction skill is much higher than that of original approach by use of the IAP9L-AGCM alone. Therefore, the prediction idea put forward here should be popularized in other regions in China where dust weather occurs frequently. | LANG XianMei Center for Disastrous Climate Research and Prediction, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100029, China | 2008 | Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,5: | 10
Assessment of gas and dust explosion in coal mines by means of fuzzy fault tree analysis显示文摘During the past decade, coal dust and gas explosions have been the most two serious types of disasters in China, threatening the lives of miners and causing significant losses in terms of national property. In this paper, an evaluation model of coal dust and gas explosions was constructed based on a fuzzy fault tree by taking the Xingli Coal Mine as a research site to identify the risk factors of coal dust and gas explosions.Furthermore, the hazards associated with such explosions were evaluated for this particular coal mine. After completing an on-site investigation, the fuzzy probabilities of basic events were obtained through expert scoring, and these expert opinions were then aggregated as trapezoidal fuzzy numbers to calculate the degrees of importance of all basic events. Finally, these degrees of importance were sorted. According to the resulting order, the basic events with higher probabilities were determined to identify key hazards in the daily safety management of this particular coal mine. Moreover, effective measures for preventing gas and coal dust explosions were derived. The fuzzy fault tree analysis method is of high significance in the analysis of accidental coal mine explosions and provides theoretical guidance for improving the efficiency of coal mine safety management in a scientific and feasible manner. | Shulei Shi Bingyou Jiang Xiangrui Meng | 2018 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2018,28,6: | 9
New pyrometallurgical process of EAF dust treatment with CaO addition显示文摘The non-carbothermic zinc pyrometallurgical processing of electric arc furnace(EAF) dust was investigated on a laboratory scale. The main objective of this process was to convert highly stable zinc ferrite(Zn Fe2O4), which accounts for more than half of total zinc in the EAF dust, into Zn O and Ca2Fe2O5 by Ca O addition. The EAF dust was mixed with Ca O powder in various ratios, pressed into pellets, and heated in a muffle furnace in air at temperatures ranging from 700 to 1100°C for a predetermined holding time. All Zn Fe2O4 was transformed into Zn O and Ca2Fe2O5 at a minimum temperature of 900°C within 1 h when sufficient Ca O to achieve a Ca/Fe molar ratio of 1.1 was added. However, at higher temperatures, excess Ca O beyond the stoichiometric ratio was required because it was consumed by reactions leading to the formation of compounds other than Zn Fe2O4. The evaporation of halides and heavy metals in the EAF dust was also studied. These components could be preferentially volatilized into the gas phase at 1100°C when Ca O was added. | Romchat Chairaksa-Fujimoto Yosuke Inoue Naoyoshi Umeda Satoshi Itoh Tetsuya Nagasaka | 2015 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2015,22,8: | 7

Effects and mechanisms of fluorite on the co-reduction of blast furnace dust and seaside titanomagnetite显示文摘The co-reduction roasting and grinding-magnetic separation of seaside titanomagnetite and blast furnace dust was investigated with and without fluorite addition at a reduction roasting temperature of 1250°C for 60 min, a grinding fineness of-43 μm accounting for 69.02 wt% of the total, and a low-intensity magnetic field strength of 151 kA/m. The mineral composition, microstructure, and state of the roasted products were analyzed, and the concentrations of CO and CO_2 were analyzed in the co-reduction roasting. Better results were achieved with a small fluorite dosage(≤4 wt%) in the process of co-reduction. In addition, F^- was found to reduce the melting point and viscosity of the slag phase because of the high content of aluminate and silicate minerals in the blast furnace dust. The low moisture content of the blast furnace dust and calcic minerals inhibited the hydrolysis of CaF_2 and the loss of F^-. Compared with the blast furnace dust from Chengdeng, the blast furnace dusts from Jiugang and Jinxin inhibited the diffusion of F-when used as reducing agents, leading to weaker effects of fluorite. | Tian-yang Hu Ti-chang Sun Jue Kou Chao Geng Yong-qiang Zhao | 2017 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2017,24,11: | 7
Geochemical characterization of major elements in desert sediments and implications for the Chinese loess source显示文摘Mineral dust released from the desert is one of the important components of atmospheric aerosols. Arid and semi-arid deserts, sandy lands in northern China and their adjacent Gobi Desert lands in northern China and neighboring Mongolia(hereinafter referred to as Gobi) are potential sources of mineral dust in Asia. However, there is currently a lack of systematic studies on the characteristics of major elements in the potential mineral dust source area. This study investigates the major elements of 310 surficial sand samples in the stabilized and semi-stabilized dune fields from 12 deserts/sandy land and Gobi in northern China and southern Mongolian Gobi and compiles published data. We identify four regions with distinct geochemical characteristics:(1) Taklimakan, Kumtag and Qaidam deserts in western China;(2) Badain Jaran, Tengger, Hobq, and Mu Us deserts in the central and western regions of northern China;(3) Hulun Buir, Onqin Daga and Horqin sandy lands in northeast China;and(4) Gobi and Gurbantunggut deserts. The spatial distributions of the SiO2 and CaO contents in Chinese deserts are highly variable. The average content of SiO2 generally reflects an increasing trend from west to east, while the average content of CaO shows a decreasing trend from west to east. We demonstrate that the spatial variation of major elements is likely controlled by two key scenarios: the composition of source rocks and the mineral maturity caused by the supply of fresh materials. The SiO2/(Al2O3+K2O+Na2O) ratio of desert sediments is relatively lower in western China and may be caused by high ferricmagnesia and high carbonate minerals;this ratio is relatively higher in the northeast sandy lands and may be linked to a lack of fresh material supply and the presence of high K-feldspar minerals in source rocks. The deserts can be further distinguished by ternary diagrams with SiO2/10-CaO-Al2O3,(K2O+Na2O)-CaO-Fe2O3 and CaO-Na2O-K2O. The comparison of major elements between desert sediments and loess suggests that the western and/or central deserts in China may be the potential provenances of loess on the Loess Plateau. | Wancang ZHAO Lianwen LIU Jun CHEN Junfeng JI | 2019 | Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,9: | 7
Sublingual immunotherapy for pediatric allergic rhinitis: The clinical evidence显示文摘Allergic rhinitis affect 10%-20% of pediatric population and it is caused by the Ig E-sensitization to environmental allergens, most importantly grass pollens and house dust mites. Allergic rhinitis can influence patient's daily activity severely and may precede the development of asthma, especially if it is not diagnosed and treated correctly. In addition to subcutaneous immunotherapy, sublingual immunotherapy(SLIT) represents the only treatment being potentially able to cure allergic respiratory diseases, by modulating the immune system activity. This review clearly summarizes and analyzes the available randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trials, which aimed at evaluating the effectiveness and the safety of grass pollen and house dust mite SLIT for the specific treatment of pediatric allergic rhinitis. Our analysis demonstrates the good evidence supporting the efficacy of SLIT for allergic rhinitis to grass pollens in children, whereas trials regarding pediatric allergic rhinitis to house dust mites present lower quality, although several studies supported its usefulness. | Dimitri Poddighe Amelia Licari Silvia Caimmi Gian Luigi Marseglia | 2016 | World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics2016,5,1: | 7
Combustion characteristics and kinetic analysis of co-combustion between bag dust and pulverized coal显示文摘The combustion characteristics of blast furnace bag dust(BD) and three kinds of coal—Shenhua(SH) bituminous coal, Pingluo(PL) anthracite, and Yangquan(YQ) anthracite—were obtained via non-isothermal thermogravimetry. The combustion characteristics with different mixing ratios were also investigated. The physical and chemical properties of the four samples were investigated in depth using particle size analysis, Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence analysis, and Raman spectroscopy. The results show that the conversion rate of the three kinds of pulverized coals is far greater than that of the BD. The comprehensive combustion characteristics of the three types of pulverized coals rank in the order SH > PL > YQ. With the addition of BD, the characteristic parameters of the combustion reaction of the blend showed an increasing trend. The Coats–Redfern model used in this study fit well with the experimental results. As the BD addition increased from 5 wt% to 10 wt%, the activation energy of combustion reactions decreased from 68.50 to 66.74 k J/mol for SH, 118.34 to 110.75 kJ/mol for PL, and 146.80 to 122.80 kJ/mol for YQ. | 20 | Thermodynamic calculation on the smelting slag of direct recycling of electric arc furnace stainless steelmaking dust显示文摘Thermodynamic calculation on the smelting slag of direct recycling of electric arc furnace stainless steelmaking dust was presented. An induction furnace was used to simulate electric arc furnace smelting to recover the metals from the dust. The elements of iron, chromium and nickel in the ingot and the components of metal oxides in the slag were analyzed. The thermodynamic model for FeO Cr 2O 3 MgO SiO 2 slag was set up and the active concentrations of substances in the slag at 1 550 ℃ were determined by thermodynamic calculation according to the experimental data. The results show that the apparent equilibrium constant and quantitative distribution of chromium between slag and steel are unstable and affected by the mass ratios of pellets to start iron and metal reducing agent to the pellets. In order to get satisfactory chromium recovery from the direct recycling of electric arc furnace stainless steelmaking dust, it is important to ensure the mass ratio of pellets to the steel below 0.20 and the mass ratio of metal reducing agent to pellets over 0.18 in practical smelting runs. | 彭兵 彭及 Janusz A.Kozinski Jonathan Lobel 柴立元 张传福 陈为亮 | 2003 | Journal of Central South University of Technology2003,10,1: | 6
