2Direct laser writing of volumetric gradient index lenses and waveguides显示文摘Direct laser writing(DLW)has been shown to render 3D polymeric optical components,including lenses,beam expanders,and mirrors,with submicrometer precision.However,these printed structures are limited to the refractive index and dispersive properties of the photopolymer.Here,we present the subsurface controllable refractive index via beam exposure(SCRIBE)method,a lithographic approach that enables the tuning of the refractive index over a range of greater than 0.3 by performing DLW inside photoresist-filled nanoporous silicon and silica scaffolds.Adjusting the laser exposure during printing enables 3D submicron control of the polymer infilling and thus the refractive index and chromatic dispersion.Combining SCRIBE’s unprecedented index range and 3D writing accuracy has realized the world’s smallest(15μm diameter)spherical Luneburg lens operating at visible wavelengths.SCRIBE’s ability to tune the chromatic dispersion alongside the refractive index was leveraged to render achromatic doublets in a single printing step,eliminating the need for multiple photoresins and writing sequences.SCRIBE also has the potential to form multicomponent optics by cascading optical elements within a scaffold.As a demonstration,stacked focusing structures that generate photonic nanojets were fabricated inside porous silicon.Finally,an all-pass ring resonator was coupled to a subsurface 3D waveguide.The measured quality factor of 4600 at 1550 nm suggests the possibility of compact photonic systems with optical interconnects that traverse multiple planes.SCRIBE is uniquely suited for constructing such photonic integrated circuits due to its ability to integrate multiple optical components,including lenses and waveguides,without additional printed supports.Christian R.Ocier Corey A.Richards Daniel A.Bacon-Brown Qing Ding Raman Kumar Tanner J.Garcia Jorik van de Groep Jung-Hwan Song Austin J.Cyphersmith Andrew Rhode Andrea N.Perry Alexander J.Littlefield Jinlong Zhu Dajie Xie Haibo Gao Jonah F.Messinger Mark L.Brongersma Kimani C.Toussaint Jr Lynford L.Goddard Paul V.Braun 2020Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1:6
3GDSL esterase/lipases OsGELP34 and OsGELP110/OsGELP115 are essential for rice pollen development显示文摘Pollen exine contains complex biopolymers of aliphatic lipids and phenolics.Abnormal development of pollen exine often leads to plant sterility.Molecular mechanisms regulating exine formation have been studied extensively but remain ambiguous.Here we report the analyses of three GDSL esterase/lipase protein genes,OsGELP34,OsGELP110,and OsGELP115,for rice exine for-mation.OsGELP34 was identified by cloning of a male sterile mutant gene.OsGELP34 encodes an endoplasmic reticulum protein and was mainly expressed in anthers during pollen exine formation.osgelp34 mutant displayed abnormal exine and altered expression of a number of key genes required for pollen development.OsGELP110 was previously identified as a gene differentially expressed in meiotic anthers.OsGELP110 was most homologous to OsGELP115,and the two genes showed similar gene expression patterns.Both OsGELP110 and OsGELP115 proteins were localized in peroxisomes.Individual knockout of OsGELP110 and OsGELP115 did not affect the plant fertility,but double knockout of both genes altered the exine structure and rendered the plant male sterile.OsGELP34 is distant from OsGELP110 and OsGELP115 in sequence,and osgelp34 and osgelp110/osgelp115 mutants were different in anther morphology despite both were male sterile.These results suggested that OsGELP34 and OsGELP110/OsGELP115 catalyze different compounds for pollen exine development.Huihui Zhang Menglong Wang Yiqi Li Wei Yan Zhenyi Chang Haoling Ni Zhufeng Chen Jianxin Wu Chunjue Xu Xing Wang Deng Xiaoyan Tang 2020Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2020,62,10:4
4Probing the limits of plasmonic enhancement using a two-dimensional atomic crystal probe显示文摘Achieving larger electromagnetic enhancement using a nanogap between neighboring metallic nanostructures has been long pursued for boosting light–matter interactions.However,the quantitative probing of this enhancement is hindered by the lack of a reliable experimental method for measuring the local fields within a subnanometer gap.Here,we use layered MoS2 as a two-dimensional atomic crystal probe in nanoparticle-on-mirror nanoantennas to measure the plasmonic enhancement in the gap by quantitative surface-enhanced Raman scattering.Our designs ensure that the probe filled in the gap has a well-defined lattice orientation and thickness,enabling independent extraction of the anisotropic field enhancements.We find that the field enhancement can be safely described by pure classical electromagnetic theory when the gap distance is no<1.24 nm.For a 0.62 nm gap,the probable emergence of quantum mechanical effects renders an average electric field enhancement of 114-fold,38.4%lower than classical predictions.Wen Chen Shunping Zhang Meng Kang Weikang Liu Zhenwei Ou Yang Li Yexin Zhang Zhiqiang Guan Hongxing Xu 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:4

6Simple and efficient delivery of cellimpermeable organic fluorescent probes into live cells for live-cell superresolution imaging显示文摘Numerous commercial organic fluorophores with excellent optical properties are precluded from live-cell superresolution imaging due to poor cell permeability.Here,we develop a simple but effective strategy that renders cells permeable to cell-impermeable,organic fluorescent probes by using a novel peptide vehicle,PV-1.By simple coincubation with PV-1,22 different cell-impermeable,organic fluorescent probes were efficiently delivered into live cells and specifically labeled a variety of organelles.Moreover,PV-1 can simultaneously transfer up to three different probes into live cells.By using PV-1 and these cell-impermeable fluorescent probes,we obtained multicolor,longterm,live-cell superresolution images of various organelles,which allowed us to study the dynamic interactions between them.PV-1,together with these organic fluorescent probes,will greatly broaden the applications of superresolution imaging technology in diverse live-cell studies and opens up a new avenue in the design and application of peptide vehicles.Meng Zhang Meihua Li Wenting Zhang Yubing Han Yu-Hui Zhang 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:2
7High-Throughput Rice Density Estimation from Transplantation to Tillering Stages Using Deep Networks显示文摘Rice density is closely related to yield estimation,growth diagnosis,cultivated area statistics,and management and damage evaluation.Currently,rice density estimation heavily relies on manual sampling and counting,which is inefficient and inaccurate.With the prevalence of digital imagery,computer vision(CV)technology emerges as a promising alternative to automate this task.However,challenges of an in-field environment,such as illumination,scale,and appearance variations,render gaps for deploying CV methods.To fill these gaps towards accurate rice density estimation,we propose a deep learningbased approach called the Scale-Fusion Counting Classification Network(SFC^(2)Net)that integrates several state-of-the-art computer vision ideas.In particular,SFC^(2)Net addresses appearance and illumination changes by employing a multicolumn pretrained network and multilayer feature fusion to enhance feature representation.To ameliorate sample imbalance engendered by scale,SFC^(2)Net follows a recent blockwise classification idea.We validate SFC^(2)Net on a new rice plant counting(RPC)dataset collected from two field sites in China from 2010 to 2013.Experimental results show that SFC^(2)Net achieves highly accurate counting performance on the RPC dataset with a mean absolute error(MAE)of 25.51,a root mean square error(MSE)of 38.06,a relative MAE of 3.82%,and a R^(2) of 0.98,which exhibits a relative improvement of 48.2%w.r.t.MAE over the conventional counting approach CSRNet.Further,SFC^(2)Net provides high-throughput processing capability,with 16.7 frames per second on 1024×1024 images.Our results suggest that manual rice counting can be safely replaced by SFC^(2)Net at early growth stages.Code and models are available online at http://gffzzb7e65fbbf9234179s5vnwpb0nbk966xq6.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/sfc2net.Liang Liu Hao Lu Yanan Li Zhiguo Cao 2020Plant Phenomics2020,2,1:2

10Beyond just a tight fortress:contribution of stroma to epithelial-mesenchymal transition in pancreatic cancer显示文摘Novel effective treatment is direly needed for patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC).Therapeutics that target the driver mutations,especially the KRAS oncoprotein and its effector cascades,have been ineffective.It is increasing clear that the extensive fibro-inflammatory stroma(or desmoplasia)of PDAC plays an active role in the progression and therapeutic resistance of PDAC.The desmoplastic stroma is composed of dense extracellular matrix(ECM)deposited mainly by the cancer-associatedfibroblasts(CAFs)and infiltrated with various types of immune cells.The dense ECM functions as a physical barrier that limits tumor vasculatures and distribution of therapeutics to PDAC cells.In addition,mounting evidence have demonstrated that both CAFs and ECM promote PDAC cells aggressiveness through multiple mechanisms,particularly engagement of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)program.Acquisition of a mesenchymal-like phenotype renders PDAC cells more invasive and resistant to therapyinduced apoptosis.Here,we critically review seminal and recent articles on the signaling mechanisms by which each stromal element promotes EMT in PDAC.We discussed the experimental models that are currently employed and best suited to study EMT in PDAC,which are instrumental in increasing the chance of successful clinical translation.Ashenafi Bulle Kian-Huat Lim 2020Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1:2

16Recent Advances in Molybdenum-Based Materials for Lithium-Sulfur Batteries显示文摘Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries as power supply systems possessing a theoretical energy density of as high as 2600 Wh kg−1 are considered promising alternatives toward the currently used lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).However,the insulation characteristic and huge volume change of sulfur,the generation of dissolvable lithium polysulfides(LiPSs)during charge/discharge,and the uncontrollable dendrite formation of Li metal anodes render Li-S batteries serious cycling issues with rapid capacity decay.To address these challenges,extensive efforts are devoted to designing cathode/anode hosts and/or modifying separators by incorporating functional materials with the features of improved conductivity,lithiophilic,physical/chemical capture ability toward LiPSs,and/or efficient catalytic conversion of LiPSs.Among all candidates,molybdenum-based(Mo-based)materials are highly preferred for their tunable crystal structure,adjustable composition,variable valence of Mo centers,and strong interactions with soluble LiPSs.Herein,the latest advances in design and application of Mo-based materials for Li-S batteries are comprehensively reviewed,covering molybdenum oxides,molybdenum dichalcogenides,molybdenum nitrides,molybdenum carbides,molybdenum phosphides,and molybdenum metal.In the end,the existing challenges in this research field are elaborately discussed.Henghan Dai Lumin Wang Yue Zhao Jialu Xue Ruicong Zhou Chenyang Yu Jianing An Jinyuan Zhou Qiang Chen Gengzhi Sun Wei Huang 2021Research2021,,1:1
17Voltage-driven charge-mediated fast 180 degree magnetization switching in nanoheterostructure at room temperature显示文摘Voltage-driven 180°magnetization switching without electric current provides the possibility for revolutionizing the spintronics.We demonstrated the voltage-driven charge-mediated 180°magnetization switching at room temperature by combining firstprinciples calculations and temperature-dependent magnetization dynamics simulation.The electric field(E)-induced interface charge is found to allow a giant modulation of the magnetic anisotropy(K)of the nanomagnet.Particularly K is revealed to vary linearly with respect to E and the epitaxial strain.Magnetization dynamics simulations using the so-obtained K show that both inplane and perpendicular 180°switching can be achieved by E pulses.The temperature effect renders the 180°switching as probability events.Statistical analysis indicates a fast(around 4 ns)and low-error-probability 180°switching achievable at room temperature by controlling the magnitude of E and the pulse width.The study inspires the rational design of miniaturized nanoscale spintronic devices where thermal fluctuation has a great impact.Min Yi Hongbin Zhang Bai-Xiang Xu 2017npj Computational Materials2017,,1:1
