| 1 | Effects of resource additions on species richness and ANPP in an alpine meadow community显示文摘Aims Theories based on resource additions indicate that plant species richness is mainly determined by the number of limiting resources.However,the individual effects of various limiting resources on species richness and aboveground net primary productivity(ANPP)are less well understood.Here,we analyzed potential linkages between additions of limiting resources,species loss and ANPP increase and further explored the underlying mechanisms.Methods Resources(N,P,K and water)were added in a completely randomized block design to alpine meadow plots in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau.Plant aboveground biomass,species composition,mean plant height and light availability were measured in each plot.Regression and analysis of variance were used to analyze the responses of these measures to the different resource-addition treatments.Important Findings Species richness decreased with increasing number of added limiting resources,suggesting that plant diversity was apparently determined by the number of limiting resources.Nitrogen was the most important limiting resource affecting species richness,whereas Pand K alone had negligible effects.The largest reduction in species richness occurred when all three elements were added in combination.Water played a different role compared with the other limiting resources.Species richness increased when water was added to the treatments with N and P or with N,P and K.The decreases in species richness after resource additions were paralleled by increases in ANPP and decreases in light penetration into the plant canopy,suggesting that increased light competitionwas responsible for the negative effects of resource additions on plant species richness. | Zhengwei Ren Qi Li Chengjin Chu Luqiang Zhao Jieqi Zhang Dexiecuo Ai Yingbo Yang Gang Wang | 2010 | Journal of Plant Ecology2010,3,1: | 40 |
| 2 | Report on Childhood Obesity in China (9): Sugar-sweetened Beverages Consumption and Obesity显示文摘Objective To explore the associations between sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption and obesity as well as obesity-related cardiometabolic disorders among children in China. Methods A total of 6974 (boys 3558, girls 3412) children aged 6-13 years participated in the study. Each participant's height, weight, waist circumference, fasting glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, high- density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were measured. The type of beverage consumption was determined using a self-administered questionnaire. Results SSBs were consumed regularly by 46.1% of the children. The prevalence [adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence internal (CI)] of obesity was 7.6% [as the reference group (ref.)], 10.1% [1.36(1.07, 1.74)], and 11.6% [1.46(1.21, 1.75)], among children who regularly drank milk, other beverages and SSBs, respectively. Regularly drinking SSBs elevated the likelihood of abdominal obesity [adjusted odds ratio (95% CI): 1.36 (1.17, 1.59)]. The prevalence [adjusted odds ratio (95% CI)] of obesity among children who regularly drank sports/caloric beverages, carbonated beverages, sweet tea, and plant protein beverages was 16.8% [2.00(1.31, 3.07)], 12.7% [1.52(1.23, 1.88)], 11.5% [1.52(1.18, 1.95)], and 10.4% [1.41(1.03, 1.94)], respectively, which was higher than that of regular milk drinkers [7.6 % (ref.)]. The prevalence [adjusted odds ratio (95% CI)] of abdominal obesity among children who regularly drank sweet tea, fruit/vegetable juices, and carbonated beverages was 17.7% [1.55(1.26, 1.90)], 16.2% [1.36(1.09, 1.70)], and 15.3% [1.24(1.03, 1.50)], respectively, which was much higher than that of regular milk drinkers [12.8% (ref.)]. Conclusions Regular SSB consumption was positively related to obesity and abdominal obesity. | 4 | Thermodynamic analysis and formula optimization of steel slag-based ceramic materials by FACTsage software显示文摘Using steel slag as a main raw material of ceramics is considered as a high value-added way. However, the relationship among the initial composition, ceramic microstructure, and macroscopic properties requires further study. In this paper, a series of ceramics with different slag ratios (0-70wt%) were designed, and the software FACTsage was introduced to simulate the formation of crystalline phases. The simulation results indicate that mullite is generated but drastically reduced at the slag ratios of 0-25wt%, and anorthite is the dominant crystalline phase in the slag content of 25wt%-45wt%. When the slag ratio is above 45wt%, pyroxene is generated more than anorthite. This is because increasing magnesium can promote the formation of pyroxene. Then, the formula with a slag content of 40wt% was selected and optimized. X-ray diffraction results were good consistent with the simulation results. | 8 | H2 strain attenuated live hepatitis A vaccines:protective efficacy in a hepatitis A outbreak显示文摘AIM To investigate the protective efficacy ofH2 strain attenuated live hepatitis A vaccines(H2-strain vaccines)in hepatitis A(HA)outbreaks.METHODS With the permission of theirparents,5551 pre-school and grade 1-3 primaryschool children were inoculated with 1 dose(106.5TCID50)of H2-strain vaccines in anonrandomized,controlled trial conducted inFucheng County,Hebei Province in May 1997.Another 6485 children in the same grades andcompatible in gender and age were enrolled ascontrols.Epidemiological and serological surveywas conducted to evaluate the protectiveefficacy of the vaccines.ELISA was used todetect serum IgM anti-HAV.RESULTS HA outbreak started in early May1998,peaked in the middle of the same month,and lasted about 80 days.Overall 302 HA caseswere found,192(53.58%)were 5-9 years old.One vaccinee and 25 control cases were found tohave hepatitis A,which account for 0.28%(1/356)and 5.92%(25/422)of all vaccinees andcontrols in the 14 villages,respectively.The protective efficacy of vaccines was 95.27%(95% Cl:85.83%-104.72%).In subjects testedfor anti-HAV IgM from 13 villages,1(0.40%)overt and 11(4.06%)asymptomatic HAV caseswere found in 271 vaccinees,but 21(6.69%)ofovert and asymptomatic ones were found in 314controls.CONCLUSION H2 strain vaccines were excellent in preventing overt hepatitis A, but not so effective in preventing asymptomatic hepatitis A virus infection. | 9 | Ghrelin improves delayed gastrointestinal transit in alloxan-induced diabetic mice显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effects of ghrelin on delayed gastrointestinal transit in alloxan-induced diabetic mice. METHODS: A diabetic mouse model was established by intraperitoneal injection with alloxan. Mice were randomized into two main groups: normal mice group and diabetic mice group treated with ghrelin at doses of 0, 20, 50, 100 and 200 μg/kg ip. Gastric emptying (GE), intestinal transit (IT), and colonic transit (CT) were studied in mice after they had a phenol red meal following injection of ghrelin. Based on the most effective ghrelin dosage, atropine was given at 1 mg/kg 15 min before the ghrelin injection for each measurement. The mice in each group were sacrificed 20 min later and their stomachs, intestines, and colons were harvested immediately. The amount of phenol red was measured. Percentages of GE, IT, and CT were calculated. RESULTS: Percentages of GE, IT, and CT were significantly decreased in diabetic mice as compared to control mice (22.9 ± 1.4 vs 28.1 ± 1.3, 33.5 ± 1.2 vs 43.2 ± 1.9, 29.5 ± 1.9 vs 36.3 ± 1.6, P < 0.05). In the diabetic mice, ghrelin improved both GE and IT, but not CT. The most effective dose of ghrelin was 100 μg/kg and atropine blocked the prokinetic effects of ghrelin on GE and IT.CONCLUSION: Ghrelin accelerates delayed GE and IT but has no effect on CT in diabetic mice. | 10 | Nrf2 epigenetic derepression induced by running exercise protects against osteoporosis显示文摘Osteoporosis(OP)is a common skeletal disease involving low bone mineral density(BMD)that often leads to fragility fracture,and its development is affected by multiple cellular pathologies and associated with marked epigenetic alterations of osteogenic genes.Proper physical exercise is beneficial for bone health and OP and reportedly possesses epigenetic modulating capacities;however,whether the protective effects of exercise on OP involve epigenetic mechanisms is unclear.Here,we report that epigenetic derepression of nuclear factor erythroid derived 2-related factor-2(Nrf2),a master regulator of oxidative stress critically involved in the pathogenesis of OP,mediates the significant osteoprotective effects of running exercise(RE)in a mouse model of OP induced by ovariectomy.We showed that Nrf2 gene knockout(Nfe2l2^(−/−))ovariectomized mice displayed a worse BMD reduction than the controls,identifying Nrf2 as a critical antiosteoporotic factor.Further,femoral Nrf2 was markedly repressed with concomitant DNA methyltransferase(Dnmt)1/Dnmt3a/Dnmt3b elevations and Nrf2 promoter hypermethylation in both patients with OP and ovariectomized mice.However,daily 1-h treadmill RE significantly corrected epigenetic alterations,recovered Nrf2 loss and improved the femur bone mass and trabecular microstructure.Consistently,RE also normalized the adverse expression of major osteogenic factors,including osteoblast/osteoclast markers,Nrf2 downstream antioxidant enzymes and proinflammatory cytokines.More importantly,the RE-conferred osteoprotective effects observed in the wild-type control mice were largely abolished in the Nfe2l2^(−/−)mice.Thus,Nrf2 repression due to aberrant Dnmt elevation and subsequent Nrf2 promoter hypermethylation is likely an important epigenetic feature of the pathogenesis of OP,and Nrf2 derepression is essential for the antiosteoporotic effects of RE. | Xingren Chen Xiaobo Zhu Ai Wei Fang Chen Qi Gao Ke Lu Qing Jiang Wangsen Cao | 2021 | Bone Research2021,9,2: | 6 |
| 11 | A Phytophthora capsid Effector Targets ACD11 Binding Partners that Regulate ROS-Mediated Defense Response in Arabidopsis显示文摘Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a vital role in plant immune response, but the genes involved in the regulation of ROS are scantily reported. Phytophthora pathogens produce a large number of effectors to promote infection, but the modes of action adopted are largely unknown. Here, we report that RxLR207 could activate ROS-mediated cell death in Nicotiana benthamiana and was essential for virulence of P. capsici. We found that this effector targeted BPA1 (binding partner of ACD11) and four members of BPLs (BPAl-Like proteins)in Arabidopsis, and the bpa1 and bpl mutants had enhanced ROS accumulation and cell death under biotic or abiotic stresses. Furthermore, we showed that BPA1 and several BPLs functioned redundantly in plant immunity to P. capsici. We discovered that BPA1 and all six BPLs interacted with ACD11, and stabilization of ACD11 was impaired in the bpa 1, bpl2, bpl3, and bpl4 mutants. RxLR207 could promote the degradation of BPA1, BPL1, BPL2, and BPL4 to disrupt ACD11 stabilization in a 26S proteasome-dependent manner. | 12 | An Aware-Scheduling Security Architecture with Priority-Equal Multi-Controller for SDN显示文摘Current SDN controllers suffer from a series of potential attacks. For example, malicious flow rules may lead to system disorder by introducing unexpected flow entries. In this paper, we propose Mcad-SA, an aware decision-making security architecture with multiple controllers, which could coordinate heterogeneous controllers internally as a 'big' controller. This architecture includes an additional plane, the scheduling plane, which consists of transponder, sensor, decider and scheduler. Meanwhile it achieves the functions of communicating, supervising and scheduling between data and control plane. In this framework, we adopt the vote results from the majority of controllers to determine valid flow rules distributed to switches. Besides, an aware dynamic scheduling(ADS) mechanism is devised in scheduler to intensify security of Mcad-SA further. Combined with perception, ADS takes advantage of heterogeneity and redundancy of controllers to enable the control plane operate in a dynamic, reliable and unsteady state, which results in significant difficulty of probing systems and executing attacks. | 13 | Gene expression dynamics during the gonocyte to spermatogonia transition and spermatogenesis in the domestic yak显示文摘Background:Spermatogenesis is a cellular differentiation process that includes three major events:mitosis of spermatogonia,meiosis of spermatocytes and spermiogenesis.Steady-state spermatogenesis relies on functions of spermatogonial stem cells(SSCs).Establishing and maintaining a foundational SSC pool is essential for continued spermatogenesis in mammals.Currently,our knowledge about SSC and spermatogenesis is severely limited in domestic animals.Results:In the present study,we examined transcriptomes of testes from domestic yaks at four different stages(3,5,8 and 24 months of age)and attempted to identify genes that are associated with key developmental events of spermatogenesis.Histological analyses showed that the most advanced germ cells within seminiferous tubules of testes from 3,5,8 and 24 months old yaks were gonocytes,spermatogonia,spermatocytes and elongated spermatids,respectively.RNA-sequencing(RNA-seq)analyses revealed that 11904,4381 and 2459 genes were differentially expressed during the gonocyte to spermatogonia transition,the mitosis to meiosis transition and the meiosis to post-meiosis transition.Further analyses identified a list of candidate genes than may regulate these important cellular processes.CXCR4,a previously identified SSC niche factor in mouse,was one of the up-regulated genes in the 5 months old yak testis.Results of immunohistochemical staining confirmed that CXCR4 was exclusively expressed in gonocytes and a subpopulation of spermatogonia in the yak testis.Conclusions:Together,these findings demonstrated histological changes of postnatal testis development in the domestic yak.During development of spermatogonial lineage,meiotic and haploid germ cells are supported by dynamic transcriptional regulation of gene expression.Our transcriptomic analyses provided a list of candidate genes that potentially play crucial roles in directing the establishment of SSC and spermatogenesis in yak. | Guowen Wang Yongchang Li Qilin Yang Shangrong Xu Shike Ma Rongge Yan Ruina Zhang Gongxue Jia Deqiang Ai Qi’en Yang | 2019 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2019,10,4: | 3 |
| 14 | Systematic Characterization of Long Non-Coding RNAs and Their Responses to Drought Stress in Dongxiang Wild Rice显示文摘Long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs) play important roles in response to various biotic and abiotic stresses. So far, systematic identification and characterization of lncRNAs have been reported in a few model plant species and major crops, but their roles in abiotic stress response have not yet been reported in common wild rice(Oryza rufipogon). Dongxiang wild rice(DXWR) possesses a high degree of drought resistance and has been well recognized as a precious genetic resource for drought resistant rice breeding. We presented the reference catalog of 1 655 novel lncRNA transcripts in DXWR using strand-specific RNA sequencing and bioinformatics approaches. Meanwhile, a total of 1092 lncRNAs were determined as differentially expressed lncRNAs under drought stress. Quantitative real-time PCR results exhibited a high concordance with RNA sequencing data, which confirmed that the expression patterns of lncRNAs based on RNA sequencing were highly reliable. Furthermore, 8 711 transcripts were predicted as target genes of the differentially expressed lncRNAs. Functional annotation analysis based on Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes databases showed that the target genes were significantly enriched in cellular and metabolic processes, cell part, binding and plant hormone signal transduction, as well as many other terms related to abiotic stress resistance. The array topologies are generated using a 3D mechanical turntable. The measurements are conducted at 2, 4, 6, 11, 15, and 22 GHz, with a large bandwidth of 200 MHz. Both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS (NLOS) propagation scenarios are considered. The typical channel parameters are extracted, including path loss,shadow fading, power delay profile, and root mean square (RMS) delay spread. The frequency dependence of these channel parameters is analyzed. The correlation between shadow fading and RMS delay spread is discussed. In addition, the performance of the standard linear precoder—the matched filter, which can be used for intersymbol interference (ISI) mitigation by shortening the RMS delay spread, is investigated. Other performance measures,such as entropy capacity, Demmel condition number, and channel ellipticity, are analyzed. | 19 | InGaP/InGaAs/GaAs DHBT structural materials grown by GSMBE显示文摘Heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) is of great interest for the application to microwave power and analog circuits. As known, decreasing bandgap energy of the base layer in HBT can result in a smaller turn-on voltage. Using InGaAs as a base material in GaAs HBT is a possible approach to achieve the aim. In this work, a novel InGaP/InGaAs/GaAs double heterojunction bipolar transistor (DHBT) structure with an InGaAs base was designed and grown by gas source molecular beam epitaxy (GSMBE). High-quality InGaAs/GaAs hetero epi-layers and a good doping figure were obtained through optimizing the layer structure and the growth condition. The DHBT devices of a 120 μm×120 μm emitter area were fabricated by normal process and the good DC performance was obtained. A breakdown voltage of 10 V and an offset voltage of just 0.4 V were achieved. | 20 | Operation Efficiency and Influencing Factors of Listed Companies of Swine Industry:Empirical Analysis Based on Data of 16 Listed Companies in 2010-2014显示文摘Listed companies of the swine industry,as an important form of agricultural industrialized operation,are typical representatives of large-scale production and the level of their operation efficiency exerts a direct influence on the healthy development of the swine industry.Using the DEA-based Malmquist method,this paper made a static and dynamic evaluation of the operation efficiency of 16 listed companies in China's swine industry in 2010-2014. It obtained following results:( i) The overall efficiency of listed companies of China's swine industry remained at high level and the development trend was excellent.( ii) Different types of enterprises had difference in the overall efficiency,pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency.
