| 4 | Infectious causation of chronic disease:Examining the relationship between Giardia lamblia infection and irritable bowel syndrome显示文摘AIM: To evaluate whether a higher prevalence of Giardia lamblia infection is associated with an increase in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) prescriptions at the county level in Michigan. METHODS: The Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS) was used to ascertain both the numbers of Giardia lamblia infections as well as the total number of foodborne illnesses per population by county in Michigan during 2005. This was compared with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Michigan numbers of drug prescriptions for IBS per one thousand members per county in 2005. These data were also analyzed for associations with per capita income by county and the number of refugees entering each county in 2005. RESULTS: There were a total of 786 confirmed cases of Giardia lamblia reported to MDSS in 2005. During the same time period, the number of prescriptions for IBS varied from 0.5 per 1000 members up to 6.0 per 1000 members per month. There was no trend towards higher numbers of IBS prescriptions in the counties with more Giardia lamblia infections. Per capita income was not associated with either IBS prescriptions or Giardiasis. There was a significant linear association between the number of refugees entering each county, and the number of Giardia lamblia cases per 100 000 population. CONCLUSION: In this ecological study, there was no association found between BCBS prescriptions for IBS and Giardia lamblia infections in Michigan counties. | 5 | Impact of radiogenomics in esophageal cancer on clinical outcomes: A pilot study显示文摘BACKGROUND Esophageal cancer(ESCA)is the sixth most common malignancy in the world,and its incidence is rapidly increasing.Recently,several microRNAs(miRNAs)and messenger RNA(mRNA)targets were evaluated as potential biomarkers and regulators of epigenetic mechanisms involved in early diagnosis.In addition,computed tomography(CT)radiomic studies on ESCA improved the early stage identification and the prediction of response to treatment.Radiogenomics provides clinically useful prognostic predictions by linking molecular characteristics such as gene mutations and gene expression patterns of malignant tumors with medical images and could provide more opportunities in the management of patients with ESCA.AIM To explore the combination of CT radiomic features and molecular targets associated with clinical outcomes for characterization of ESCA patients.METHODS Of 15 patients with diagnosed ESCA were included in this study and their CT imaging and transcriptomic data were extracted from The Cancer Imaging Archive and gene expression data from The Cancer Genome Atlas,respectively.Cancer stage,history of significant alcohol consumption and body mass index(BMI)were considered as clinical outcomes.Radiomic analysis was performed on CT images acquired after injection of contrast medium.In total,1302 radiomics features were extracted from three-dimensional regions of interest by using PyRadiomics.Feature selection was performed using a correlation filter based on Spearman’s correlation(ρ)and Wilcoxon-rank sum test respect to clinical outcomes.Radiogenomic analysis involvedρanalysis between radiomic features associated with clinical outcomes and transcriptomic signatures consisting of eight N6-methyladenosine RNA methylation regulators and five up-regulated miRNA.The significance level was set at P<0.05.RESULTS Of 25,five and 29 radiomic features survived after feature selection,considering stage,alcohol history and BMI as clinical outcomes,respectively.Radiogenomic analysis with stage as clinical outcome revealed that six of the eight mRNA regulators and two of the five up-regulated miRNA were significantly correlated with ten and three of the 25 selected radiomic features,respectively(-0.61<ρ<-0.60 and 0.53<ρ<0.69,P<0.05).Assuming alcohol history as clinical outcome,no correlation was found between the five selected radiomic features and mRNA regulators,while a significant correlation was found between one radiomic feature and three up-regulated miRNAs(ρ=-0.56,ρ=-0.64 andρ=0.61,P<0.05).Radiogenomic analysis with BMI as clinical outcome revealed that four mRNA regulators and one up-regulated miRNA were significantly correlated with 10 and two radiomic features,respectively(-0.67<ρ<-0.54 and 0.53<ρ<0.71,P<0.05).CONCLUSION Our study revealed interesting relationships between the expression of eight N6-methyladenosine RNA regulators,as well as five up-regulated miRNAs,and CT radiomic features associated with clinical outcomes of ESCA patients. | Valentina Brancato Nunzia Garbino Lorenzo Mannelli Marco Aiello Marco Salvatore Monica Franzese Carlo Cavaliere | 2021 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2021，27，36： | 3 |
| 6 | HOT DIPPING ALUMINIZED COATING AS HYDROGEN PERMEATION BARRIER显示文摘The hydrogen permeation experiment of MA NET II with hot dipping aluminized coating was performed in temperature range of 573 to 623K, in gas phase and in liquid Pb-17Li phase. The hydrogen permeation reduction factor (PRP) evaluated in gas phase is 620 at 573K and 260 at 623K, and in liquid Pb-17Li phase is 24-45 at 573K and P2-30 at 623K. The self-healing of coating is obvious and effective above 673K. The pressure dependence of permeation flux indicates strong surface contribution. The way of filling hydrogen by continuous flow and/or bubble can increase permeation flux. The result of SEM-EDS shows that the microcrack is on the surface of the wetted part, but not on the not wetted part. The crack is superficial and affects only thin outside layer not penetrate aluminized layer. The surface elemental analysis shows that Al/O atomic ratio changes from 2/3 of not wetted part to about 1 of wetted part. | 7 | Hepatitis C virus: Promising discoveries and new treatments显示文摘Despite advances in therapy, hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection remains an important global health issue. It is estimated that a significant part of the world population is chronically infected with the virus, and many of those affected may develop cirrhosis or liver cancer. The virus shows considerable variability, a characteristic that directly interferes with disease treatment. The response to treatment varies according to HCV genotype and subtype. The continuous generation of variants(quasispecies) allows the virus to escape control by antivirals. Historically, the combination of ribavirin and interferon therapy has represented the only treatment option for the disease. Currently, several new treatment options are emerging and are available to a large part of the affected population. In addition, the search for new substances with antiviral activity against HCV continues, promising future improvements in treatment.
