1Isolation of the mucilages from Hibiscus rosasinensis linn.and Okra(Abelmoschus esculentus linn.) and studies of the binding effects of the mucilages显示文摘Objective:To isolate and evaluate comparatively the binding efficacy of the mucilages obtained from the plants of Hibiscus rosasinensis and Okra(Abelmoschus esculentus). Methods:Extraction of mucilages from the leaves of Hibiscus and pods of Okra(Ladies finger) was carried out by a cold maceration process. The extracted mucilages were subjected to various physicochemical properties for its suitability as an excipient in the formulation of tablet dosage form.Different concentrations(10,8,5,2 and 1%w/v) of binder solutions of Hibiscus and Okra were used for the formulation of tablets and the formulated tablets were evaluated by studying the standard parameters like diameter, thickness, weight variation, hardness, friability, disintegration and in vitro dissolution.Stability studies of the formulated tablets were conducted for four weeks. Results:The formulated tablets prepared using the mucilages of both Hibiscus and Okra had good appearance. The in vitro drug release profile of the tablets prepared using Okra mucilage had an optimum of 90%at a mucilage concentration of 1%w/v concentration mucilage itself within 4 h.Conclusions:According to the observations, the lower concentration levels of Okra can be used as an alternative binder to starch. The higher concentration levels of Okra mucilage show a slow and sustained release, and can be considered as an alternative natural excipient in the modified drug delivery systems. At the same time, the above natural excipient of Hibiscus mucilage could be used as a platform for prolonged release if its binder concentrations are increased.Ameena K Dilip C Saraswathi R Krishnan PN Sankar C Simi SP 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,7:8

7Formulation and evaluation of Albendazole microcapsules for colon delivery using chitosan显示文摘Objective:To formulate and evaluate Albendazole microcapsules using chitosan,a natural polymer for colon-specific delivery for better treatment of helminthiasis, filariasis, colorectal cancer, avoiding the side effects. Methods:The Albendazole microcapsules were prepared by the use of different concentrations of sodium alginate, chitosan and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose(HPMC).The polysaccharides chitosan reacted with sodium alginate in the presence of calcium chloride to form microcapsules with a polyelectrolyte complex membrane by electrostatic interactions between the two oppositely charged polymers. The microcapsules were then studied for entrapment efficiency,drug-polymer compatibility and surface morphology. In vitro drug release study in presence and absence of cecal content were also studied.Further, kinetic modellings were employed to find out release mechanisms. Results:Albendazole loaded microspheres showd high entrapment efficiency(72.8%) and the microcapsules were free flowing, non aggregated and spherical, between 600 and 1 000μm in diameter. The surface of microcapsules were found to be porous and wavy. The FT-IR spectrum showed that there is no interaction between the polymer and the drug. The in vitro drug release study found to be affected by change in chitosan, sodium alginate and HPMC concentration. The microcapsules with 2.5% sodium alginate and 0.4% chitosan shown minimum release in gastrointestinal simulated condition but shows maximum drug release at the end of 24th hour in presence of cecal content. The rate of drug release follows Korsmeyer-peppas model that was the drug release is by diffusion and erosion. Conclusions:The study reveals that Albendazole loaded chitosanalginate based microsphere can be used effectively for the colon targeting.Simi SP Saraswathi R Sankar C Krishnan PN Dilip C Ameena K 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,5:1

12Safe surgical zone during TORS radical tonsillectomy:An anatomical and radiological study显示文摘Objective:Parapharyngeal space contains intricate vascular anatomy(external and internal carotid arteries)that might be inadvertently injured during the dissection in this plane.None of the bony landmarks can be used during the transoral robotic surgery(TORS)radical tonsillectomy as these landmarks lie lateral to the internal carotid artery(ICA)and external carotid artery(ECA)in transoral approach. Our study aims to identify the safe surgical limits during the dissection of parapharyneal space in TORS radical tonsillectomy and to correlate the same with radiological study.Material and methods:Fifteen cadavers(30 head and neck regions)and 50 CT-Angiogram of neck(100 head and neck regions)were included in the anatomical and radiological study respectively. The vertical midpoint of anterior tonsillar pillar(palatoglossus muscle)was taken as the reference point and all the measurements were done at the level of reference point both for anatomical and radiological study.Distance between tonsillar fossa and ECA,distance between tonsillar fossa and ICA,relation between ECA and styloglossus and relation between ICA and stylopharyngeus at reference level were studied. Results:The mean distance of ECA from the tonsillar fossa at the reference point was 18.2 mm in the anatomical study and 16.2 mm in the radiological study. The mean distance of ICA from the tonsillar fossa was 23.4 mm and 23.3 mm in the anatomical study and radiological study. There was no significant difference between the anatomical and radiological findings for both the mean distance between ECA and ICA to the tonsillar fossa(p value was 0.45 and 0.30 respectively).ECA was located posterolateral to styloglossus in 24 cases(80.0%)and 79 cases(79.0%)in the anatomical and radiological study respectively.ICA was found posterolateral to stylopharyngeus in 21 cases(70.0%)and 69 cases(69.0%)in the anatomical and radiological study respectively. Conclusion:The muscular plane between styloglossus and stylopharyngeus can be used as an envelope to locate the ECA and ICA that lie medial to these critical vascular structures during TORS.We propose to divide the parapharyngeal space into two compartments(anterior and posterior)based on the surgical perspective of inside-out anatomy. The anterior compartment houses styloglossus muscle with ECA posterolateral to it and the posterior compartment has stylopharyngeus and ICA posterolateral to it.J.G.Aishwarya Ashish S.Shah Satish Nair Savith Kumar Swetha Kumar K.V.R.Brijith Namrata Srivastava Ameena Ibrahim 2020Laparoscopic, Endoscopic and Robotic Surgery2020,3,2:0
13Techno-economic analysis of green hydrogen as an energy-storage medium for commercial buildings显示文摘Green-hydrogen production is vital in mitigating carbon emissions and is being adopted globally. In its transition to a more diverse energy mix with a bigger share for renewable energy,United Arab Emirates(UAE)has committed to investing billions of dollars in the production of green hydrogen. This study presents the results of the techno-economic assessment of a green-hydrogen-based commercial-building microgrid design in the UAE.The microgrid has been designed based on the building load demand,green-hydrogen production potential utilizing solar photovoltaic(PV)energy and discrete stack reversible fuel cell electricity generation during non-PV hours.Given the current market conditions and the hot humid climate of the UAE,a performance analysis is derived to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of this microgrid. The study aims at maximizing both the building microgrid’s independence from the main grid and its renewable fraction.Simulation results indicate that the designed system is capable of meeting three-quarters of its load demand independently from the main grid and is supported by a 78%renewable-energy fraction. The economic analysis demonstrates a 3.117-$/kg levelized cost of hydrogen production and a 0.248-$/kWh levelized cost for storing hydrogen as electricity.Additionally, the levelized cost of system energy was found to be less than the current utility costs in the UAE.Sensitivity analysis shows the significant impact of the capital cost and discount rate on the levelized cost of hydrogen generation and storage.Rahul Rajeevkumar Urs Assia Chadly Ameena Al Sumaiti Ahmad Mayyas 2023Clean Energy2023,7,1:0
14Molecular docking, synthesis and biological evaluation of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor(VEGF)B based peptide as antiangiogenic agent targeting the second domain of the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 1(VEGFR1D2)for anticancer application显示文摘Dear Editor,Tumor angiogenesis is regulated by the binding of VEGF to receptors(VEGFRs).The major mediator of tumor angiogenesis is VEGFA,more commonly referred to as VEGF.VEGFR1 binds VEGF with higher affinity(10 times)than VEGFR2.1 However, the role of the VEGFR1 in VEGF-mediated angiogenesis remains a mystery.Afsaneh Sadremomtaz Ameena M.Ali Foroozan Jouyandeh Saeed Balalaie Razieh Navari Sylvain Broussy Kamran Mansouri Matthew R.Groves S.Mohsen Asghari 2020Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1:0
