| 9 | Hepatobiliary manifestations following two-stages elective laparoscopic restorative proctocolectomy for patients with ulcerative colitis:A prospective observational study显示文摘BACKGROUND Hepatobiliary manifestations occur in ulcerative colitis(UC)patients.The effect of laparoscopic restorative proctocolectomy(LRP)with ileal pouch anal anastomosis(IPAA)on hepatobiliary manifestations is debated.AIM To evaluate hepatobiliary changes after two-stages elective laparoscopic restorative proctocolectomy for patients with UC.METHODS Between June 2013 and June 2018,167 patients with hepatobiliary symptoms underwent two-stage elective LRP for UC in a prospective observational study.Patients with UC and having at least one hepatobiliary manifestation who underwent LRP with IPAA were included in the study.The patients were followed up for four years to assess the outcomes of hepatobiliary manifestations.RESULTS The patients'mean age was 36±8 years,and males predominated(67.1%).The most common hepatobiliary diagnostic method was liver biopsy(85.6%),followed by Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography(63.5%),Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies(62.5%),abdominal ultrasonography(35.9%),and Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(6%).The most common hepatobiliary symptom was Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)(62.3%),followed by fatty liver(16.8%)and gallbladder stone(10.2%).66.4%of patients showed a stable course after surgery.Progressive or regressive courses occurred in 16.8%of each.Mortality was 6%,and recurrence or progression of symptoms required surgery for 15%.Most PSC patients(87.5%)had a stable course,and only 12.5%became worse.Two-thirds(64.3%)of fatty liver patients showed a regressive course,while one-third(35.7%)showed a stable course.Survival rates were 98.8%,97%,95.8%,and 94%at 12 mo,24 mo,36 mo,and at the end of the follow-up.CONCLUSION In patients with UC who had LRP,there is a positive impact on hepatobiliary disease.It caused an improvement in PSC and fatty liver disease.The most prevalent unchanged course was PSC,while the most common improvement was fatty liver disease. | Tamer A A M Habeeb Abdulzahra Hussain Mauro Podda Pasquale Cianci Bruce Ramshaw Khaled Safwat Wesam M Amr Tamer Wasefy Alaa A Fiad Mohamed Ibrahim Mansour Adel Mahmoud Moursi GamalOsman Anass Qasem Mohamed Fawzy Mohamed Ibrahim Abo Alsaad Abd-Elfattah Kalmoush MohammedShaaban Nassar Fawzy M Mustafa Mahmoud Hassib Morsi Badawy Ahmed Hamdy Hamdi Elbelkasi Bassam Mousa Abd-Elrahman M Metwalli Walid A Mawla Mostafa M Elaidy Muhammad Ali Baghdadi Ahmed Raafat | 2023 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2023,15,2: | 0 |

| 11 | Does the scleral encircling band provide a protective effect against the progression of diabetic retinopathy?显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the effect of scleral encircling bands on the development and progression of diabetic retinopathy(DR) in diabetic patients.METHODS: The medical records of diabetic patients who underwent unilateral retinal detachment(RD) surgery using scleral buckle and encircling band were reviewed retrospectively. Both eyes of patients were included in the study: one eye in each patient had a scleral buckle with encircling band(the operated eye) and the other one is the non-operated eye. The demographic characters, duration of diabetes and period between surgery and the last recall visit were retrieved from each patient. All the cases underwent fundus photo and fluorescein angiography(when indicated) to confirm the DR staging.RESULTS: Totally 25 patients fulfilled the inclusion and the exclusion criteria were become eligible for the study. A total of 50 eyes of 25 patients were enrolled in this analysis. The mean period of time passed from surgery with encircling band and the last reassessment visit was 12.5±2 y. | 12 | Decrease of back recombination rate in CdS quantum dots sensitized solar cells using reduced graphene oxide显示文摘The photovoltaic performance of Cd S quantum dots sensitized solar cells(QDSSCs) using the 0.2 wt% of reduced graphene oxide and Ti O2nanoparticles(RGO+Ti O2nanocomposite) photoanode is investigated. Cd S QDs are adsorbed onto RGO+Ti O2 nanocomposite films by the successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction(SILAR) technique for several cycles. The current density–voltage(J–V) characteristic curves of the assembled QDSSCs are measured at AM1.5 simulated sunlight. The optimal photovoltaic performance for Cd S QDSSC was achieved for six SILAR cycles. Solar cells based on the RGO+Ti O2 nanocomposite photoanode achieve a 33% increase in conversion efficiency(η) compared with those based on plain Ti O2nanoparticle(NP) photoanodes. The electron back recombination rates decrease significantly for Cd S QDSSCs based on RGO+Ti O2 nanocomposite photoanodes. | 13 | Dynamic mechanical analysis of single walled carbon nanotubes/polymethyl methacrylate nanocomposite films显示文摘Dynamic mechanical properties of nanocomposite films with different ratios of single walled carbon nanotubes/polymethyl methacrylate(SWCNTs/PMMA) are studied. Nanocomposite films of different ratios(0, 0.5, 1.0, and2.0 weight percent(wt%)) of SWCNTs/PMMA are fabricated by using a casting technique. The morphological and structural properties of both SWCNT powder and SWCNTs/PMMA nanocomposite films are investigated by using a high resolution transmission electron microscope and x-ray diffractometer respectively. The mechanical properties including the storage modulus, loss modulus, loss factor(tan δ) and stiffness of the nanocomposite film as a function of temperature are recorded by using a dynamic mechanical analyzer at a frequency of 1 Hz. Compared with pure PMMA film, the nanocomposite films with different ratios of SWCNTs/PMMA are observed to have enhanced storage moduli, loss moduli and high stiffness, each of which is a function of temperature. The intensity of the tan δ peak for pure PMMA film is larger than those of the nanocomposite films. | 15 | Exploration of structural,optical,and photoluminescent properties of (1-x)NiCo_(2)O_(4)/xPbS nanocomposites for optoelectronic applications显示文摘The(1-x)NiCo_(2)O_(4)/x PbS(0≤x≤0.2)nanocomposite samples are synthesized using the hydrothermal and thermolysis procedures.The different phases developed in the obtained nanocomposite samples are accurately determined using the x-ray diffraction technique equipped with a line-detector.The percentage of the formed phases(NiCo_(2)O_(4)(NCO),PbS,PbSO_(4)),structural and microstructure parameters are determined using Rietveld quantitative phase analysis.The transmission electron microscope(TEM)images and Rietveld analysis reveal almost isotropic particle size in the nano range with a very narrow size distribution.The obtained phase percentage of PbS and PbSO4are smaller than nominated values(x)suggesting dissolving of some Pb and S ions into NCO which is then confirmed by the analysis of Fourier-transform infrared(FTIR)spectra of nanocomposite samples.The absorption spectra are modified upon doping NCO with PbS.The optical band gaps of the nanocomposites increase as the amount of PbS augments.The effect of alloying on extinction coefficient,refractive index,dielectric constant,optical conductivity,the intensity,and emitted color from the photoluminescence of the nanocomposite samples are also studied.The refractive index value of NCO and NCO-PbS nanocomposite samples exhibit normal dispersions.The photoluminescent measurements reveal that the NCO-PbS nanocomposites can emit a violet color.The improvement in the values of the nonlinear optical(NLO)parameters of pristine NCO at high frequencies or the nanocomposite samples at low frequencies,are made them used in NLO photonic devices. | Zein K Heiba Mohamed Bakr Mohamed Noura M Farag Ali Badawi | 2022 | Chinese Physics B2022,31,6: | 0 |
| 16 | Predictors of renal angioembolization outcome:A retrospective analysis with 148 patients at a tertiary urology institute显示文摘Objective:The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictor of unsuccessful outcome of renal angioembolization(RAE).Knowing those predictors may help in avoiding unnecessary RAE procedures and their associated side effects,while helping to prepare for an alternate procedure and improving patient's overall satisfaction.Methods:A retrospective analysis between January 2006 and December 2018 was performed,and the indications for RAE were classified into post-traumatic,iatrogenic,renal tumors,and spontaneous.Patients who underwent RAE prior to nephrectomy were eliminated.Computed tomography angiography was performed in patients with normal renal function and those who had no contrast allergy,otherwise magnetic resonance angiography was performed.For the purpose of statistical analysis,we stratified patients into two main categories based on the final outcome—successful or failed.Results:Of 180 patients,32 with negative angiography were eliminated,leaving 148 patients;136(91%)had successful outcomes after one or more trials and 12 had unsuccessful outcomes.The mean age was 45±15 years,and 105(71%)were male.Neither gender,side of the lesion,presence of hematuria,indication for RAE,nor the type of lesion affected the outcome.On the other hand,renal anatomy with presence of accessory artery was the only predictor to failed RAE(p=0.001).Failed RAE trial was a predictor for nephrectomy as a secondary procedure(p=0.03).Conclusion:No pre-procedural predictors could anticipate the RAE outcome,and different indications can be scheduled to RAE,which is equally effective.The presence of accessory renal artery on diagnostic angiography is the only factor that may predict the failure of the procedure. | Hashim Mohamed Farg Mohamed Mohamed Elawdy Karim Ali Soliman Mohamed Ali Badawy Ali Elsorougy Abdalla Abdelhamid Tarek Mohsen Tarek El-Diasty | 2022 | Asian Journal of Urology2022,9,2: | 0 |
