1Numerical and Experimental Modelling of Gas Flow and Heat Transfer in the Air Gap of an Electric Machine. Part II: Grooved Surfaces显示文摘The study deals with the cooling of a high-speed electric machine through an air gap with numerical and experimental methods. The rotation speed of the test machine is between 5000-4000 r/rain and the machine is cooled by a forced gas flow through the air gap. In the previous part of the research the friction coefficient was measured for smooth and grooved stator cases with a smooth rotor. The heat transfer coefficient was recently calculated by a numerical method and measured for a smooth stator-rotor combination. In this report the cases with axial groove slots at the stator and/or rotor surfaces are studied. Numerical flow simulations and measurements have been done for the test machine dimensions at a large velocity range. At constant mass flow rate the heat transfer coefficients by the numerical method attain bigger values with groove slots on the stator or rotor surfaces. The results by the numerical method have been confirmed with measurements. 2Computational and Experimental Study of an Industrial Centrifugal Compressor Volute显示文摘A centrifugal compressor with a vaneless diffuser was studied experimentally and numerically. The main target of the study was to analyze the volute flow. Two different volute geometries was studied. The numerical solution was done by using a steady-state RANS code at both design and off-design conditions. 4Radial Forces in a Centrifugal Compressor; Experimental Investigation by Using Magnetic Bearings and Static Pressure Distribution显示文摘The volute of a centrifugal compressor causes a non-uniform pressure distribution which leads to a radial force on the impeller. This force was measured using magnetic bearings. In addition, the radial force was estimated using the static pressure distribution measured at the impeller outlet. The impeller force was found to be the highest at choke, the lowest at the design flow and moderate at stall. The radial force determined from the pressure measurements was only slightly different from the force obtained from the bearing measurements. 12Physics-based electrical modelling of CIGS thin-film photovoltaic modules for system-level energy yield simulations显示文摘Copper indium gallium selenide(CIGS)is a commercialized,high-efficiency thin-film photovoltaic(PV)technology.The state-of-theart energy yield models for this technology have a significant normalized root mean square error(nRMSE)on power estimation:De Soto model—26.7%;PVsyst model—12%.In this work,we propose a physics-based electrical model for CIGS technology which can be used for system-level energy yield simulations by people across the PV value chain.The model was developed by considering models of significant electrical current pathways from literature and adapting it for the system-level simulation.We improved it further by incorporating temperature and irradiance dependence of parameters through characterisation at various operating conditions.We also devised a module level,non-destructive characterization strategy based on readily available measurement equipment to obtain the model parameters.The model was validated using the measurements from multiple commercial modules and has a significantly lower power estimation nRMSE of 1.2%.Santhosh Ramesh Arttu Tuomiranta Ali Hajjiah Marc Meuris Bart Vermang Jef Poortmans 2022npj Flexible Electronics2022,6,1:0
13Structural and chemical changes in pyrogenic organic matter aged in a boreal forest soil显示文摘Pyrogenic organic matter(PyOM)is formed during wildfires and prescribed burnings or produced intentionally in the form of biochar for soil amendment purposes.It is attracting a growing scientific and practical interest due to its important role in the global carbon cycle and agronomic applications as a soil enhancer.Most of the studies on the physicochemical properties of PyOM have been conducted using fresh biochars even though the characteristics of PyOM are expected to alter due to aging processes in soil environment.In this paper,we report the results of a study that utilized X-ray microtomography and elemental analysis to investigate the chemical and structural changes in the PyOM formed during prescribed burning events and aged thereafter for 1–71 years in a boreal forest soil.Our results indicate that changes in elemental composition occurred at decadal timescales,and an apparent steady state was reached ca.30 years after PyOM formation and exposure to the environment.At such timescales,PyOM was able to retain its porous structure originating from the cellular structure of the initial wood tissues.However,structural analysis revealed several effects of aging on the pore structure,such as the formation of surface coating layers,pore fillings,and fractures.These changes may alter pore size distribution and accessibility of the pores and further alter the influence of PyOM on soil functions,such as the transfer and retention of water and nutrients in PyOM pores.Jari HYVÄLUOMA Arttu MIETTINEN Riikka KESKINEN Kimmo RASA Henrik LINDBERG 2023Pedosphere2023,33,3:0
