3Paired associated magnetic stimulation promotes neural repair in the rat middle cerebral artery occlusion model of stroke显示文摘Paired associative stimulation has been used in stroke patients as an innovative recovery treatment.However,the mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effectiveness of paired associative stimulation on neurological function remain unclear.In this study,rats were randomly divided into middle cerebral occlusion model(MCAO)and paired associated magnetic stimulation(PAMS)groups.The MCAO rat model was produced by middle cerebral artery embolization.The PAMS group received PAMS on days 3 to 20 post MCAO.The MCAO group received sham stimulation,three times every week.Within 18 days after ischemia,rats were subjected to behavioral experiments—the foot-fault test,the balance beam walking test,and the ladder walking test.Balance ability was improved on days 15 and 17,and the footfault rate was less in their affected limb on day 15 in the PAMS group compared with the MCAO group.Western blot assay showed that the expression levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor,glutamate receptor 2/3,postsynaptic density protein 95 and synapsin-1 were significantly increased in the PAMS group compared with the MCAO group in the ipsilateral sensorimotor cortex on day 21.Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging revealed that regional brain activities in the sensorimotor cortex were increased in the ipsilateral hemisphere,but decreased in the contralateral hemisphere on day 20.By finite element simulation,the electric field distribution showed a higher intensity,of approximately 0.4 A/m^2,in the ischemic cortex compared with the contralateral cortex in the template.Together,our findings show that PAMS upregulates neuroplasticity-related proteins,increases regional brain activity,and promotes functional recovery in the affected sensorimotor cortex in the rat MCAO model.The experiments were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of Fudan University,China(approval No.201802173 S)on March 3,2018.Bei-Yao Gao Cheng-Cheng Sun Guo-Hua Xia Shao-Ting Zhou Ye Zhang Ye-Ran Mao Pei-Le Liu Ya Zheng Dan Zhao Xu-Tong Li Janie Xu Dong-Sheng Xu Yu-Long Bai 2020Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,11:8
4Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. 5Assessment of the cropland classifications in four global land cover datasets: A case study of Shaanxi Province, China显示文摘Accurate and reliable cropland surface information is of vital importance for agricultural planning and food security monitoring. As several global land cover datasets have been independently released,an inter-comparison of these data products on the classification of cropland is highly needed. This paper presents an assessment of cropland classifications in four global land cover datasets,i.e.,moderate resolution imaging spectrometer(MODIS) land cover product,global land cover map of 2009(Glob Cover2009),finer resolution observation and monitoring of global cropland(FROM-GC) and 30-m global land cover dataset(Globe Land30). The temporal coverage of these four datasets are circa 2010. One of the typical agricultural regions of China,Shaanxi Province,was selected as the study area. The assessment proceeded from three aspects: accuracy,spatial agreement and absolute area. In accuracy assessment,506 validation samples,which consist of 168 cropland samples and 338 non-cropland ones,were automatically and systematically selected,and manually interpreted by referencing high-resolution images dated from 2009 to 2011 on Google Earth. The results show that the overall accuracy(OA) of four datasets ranges from 61.26 to 80.63%. Globe Land30 dataset,with the highest accuracy,is the most accurate dataset for cropland classification. The cropland spatial agreement(mainly located in the plain ecotope of Shaanxi) and the non-cropland spatial agreement(sparsely distributed in the south and middle of Shaanxi) of the four datasets only makes up 33.96% of the whole province. FROM-GC and Globe Land30,obtaining the highest spatial agreement index of 62.40%,have the highest degree of spatial consistency. In terms of the absolute area,MODIS underestimates the cropland area,while Glob Cover2009 significantly overestimates it. These findings are of value in revealing to which extent and on which aspect that these global land cover datasets may agree with each other at small scale on each ecotope region. 6Behavioral Abnormality along with NMDAR-related CREB Suppression in Rat Hippocampus after Shortwave Exposure显示文摘Objective To estimate the detrimental effects of shortwave exposure on rat hippocampal structure and function and explore the underlying mechanisms. Methods One hundred Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups(25 rats per group) and exposed to 27 MHz continuous shortwave at a power density of 5, 10, or 30 m W/cm^2 for 6 min once only or underwent sham exposure for the control. The spatial learning and memory, electroencephalogram(EEG), hippocampal structure and Nissl bodies were analysed. Furthermore, the expressions of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor(NMDAR) subunits(NR1, NR2 A, and NR2 B), c AMP responsive element-binding protein(CREB) and phosphorylated CREB(p-CREB) in hippocampal tissue were analysed on 1, 7, and 14 days after exposure. Results The rats in the 10 and 30 m W/cm^2 groups had poor learning and memory, disrupted EEG oscillations, and injured hippocampal structures, including hippocampal neurons degeneration, mitochondria cavitation and blood capillaries swelling. The Nissl body content was also reduced in the exposure groups. Moreover, the hippocampal tissue in the 30 m W/cm^2 group had increased expressions of NR2 A and NR2 B and decreased levels of CREB and p-CREB. Conclusion Shortwave exposure(27 MHz, with an average power density of 10 and 30 m W/cm^2) impaired rats' spatial learning and memory and caused a series of dose-dependent pathophysiological changes. 8Effects of Outdoor Temperature on Blood Pressure in a Prospective Cohort of Northwest China显示文摘Objective The relationship between outdoor temperature and blood pressure(BP) has been inconclusive. We analyzed data from a prospective cohort study in northwestern China to investigate the effect of outdoor temperature on BP and effect modification by season.Methods A total of 32,710 individuals who participated in both the baseline survey and the first follow-up in 2011–2015 were included in the study. A linear mixed-effect model and generalized additive mixed model(GAMM) were applied to estimate the association between outdoor temperature and BP after adjusting for confounding variables.Results The mean differences in systolic blood pressure(SBP) and diastolic blood pressure(DBP)between summer and winter were 3.5 mm Hg and 2.75 mm Hg, respectively. After adjusting for individual characteristics, meteorological factors and air pollutants, a significant increase in SBP and DBP was observed for lag 06 day and lag 04 day, a 0.28 mm Hg(95% CI: 0.27–0.30) per 1 °C decrease in average temperature for SBP and a 0.16 mm Hg(95% CI: 0.15–0.17) per 1 °C decrease in average temperature for DBP, respectively. The effects of the average temperature on both SBP and DBP were stronger in summer than in other seasons. The effects of the average temperature on BP were also greater if individuals were older, male, overweight or obese, a smoker or drinker, or had cardiovascular diseases(CVDs), hypertension, and diabetes.Conclusions This study demonstrated a significant negative association between outdoor temperature and BP in a high-altitude environment of northwest China. Moreover, BP showed a significant seasonal variation. 9Tuning the selectivity of photoreduction of CO2 to syngas over Pd/layered double hydroxide nanosheets under visible light up to 600 nm显示文摘Photocatalytic reduction of CO2 with H2 O to syngas is an effective way for producing high value-added chemical feedstocks such as methanol and light olefins in industry.Nevertheless,the precise control of CO/H2 ratio from photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction still poses a great challenge for the further application.Herein,we prepared a series of highly efficient heterostructure based on highly dispersed palladium supported on ultrathin Co Al-layered double hydroxide(LDH).In conjunction with a Ru-complex sensitizer,the molar ratios of CO/H2 can be tuned from 1:0.74 to 1:3 under visible-light irradiation(λ>400 nm).More interestingly,the syngas can be obtained under light irradiation atλ>600 nm.Structure characterization and density functional theory calculations revealed that the remarkable catalytic activity can be due to the supported palladium,which improved the charge transfer efficiency.Meanwhile,more H atoms were used to generate H2 on the supported palladium for further tunable CO/H2 ratio.This work demonstrates a new strategy for harnessing abundant solar-energy to produce syngas from a CO2 feedstock.Xian Wang Zelin Wang Ya Bai Ling Tan Yanqi Xu Xiaojie Hao Jikang Wang Abdul Hanif Mahadi Yufei Zhao Lirong Zheng Yu-Fei Song 2020Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,7:5

14Allotransplantation of adult spinal cord tissues after complete transected spinal cord injury: long-term survival and functional recovery in canines显示文摘Spinal cord injury(SCI), especially complete transected SCI, leads to loss of cells and extracellular matrix and functional impairments. In a previous study, we transplanted adult spinal cord tissues(aSCTs) to replace lost tissues and facilitate recovery in a rat SCI model. However, rodents display considerable differences from human patients in the scale, anatomy and functions of spinal cord systems, and responses after injury. Thus, use of a large animal SCI model is required to examine the repair efficiency of potential therapeutic approaches. In this study, we transplanted allogenic aSCTs from adult dogs to the lesion area of canines after complete transection of the thoracic spinal cord, and investigated the long-term cell survival and functional recovery. To enhance repair efficiency, a growth factor cocktail was added during aSCT transplantation, providing a favorable microenvironment. The results showed that transplantation of a SCTs, in particular with the addition of growth factors, significantly improves locomotor function restoration and increases the number of neurofilament-, microtubule-associated protein2-, 5-hydroxytryptamine-, choline acetyltransferase-and tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in the lesion area at 6 months post-surgery. In addition, we demonstrated that donor neurons in a SCTs can survive for a long period after transplantation. 17Clustering of Non-communicable Diseases Risk Factors in Healthy Adults Aged 35 Years and Older in Shenzhen,China显示文摘We assessed the prevalence of non‐ communicable diseases(NCDs) risk factors with a focus on their clustering among healthy adults in Shenzhen, China. Data from the 2011 China Health and Nutrition Survey, comprising a regionally representative sample of 806 healthy adults aged 35 years or older, were obtained to determine the prevalence of five risk factors for NCDs. The prevalence of current smoking, central obesity, impaired fasting glucose, borderline hypertension, and borderline high total cholesterol was 19.97%, 28.29%, 4.47%, 10.55%, and 36.10%, respectively. A total 63.77% of participants had at least one risk factor. Upon examination of risk factor clustering, we observed that 7.57% of participants had at least three risk factors. Using this threshold as a cutoff, clustering of risk factors was associated with sex [odds ratio(OR) = 3.336, 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.782 to 6.246], physical activity(OR = 1.913, 95% CI: 1.009 to 3.628), and BMI(OR = 7.376, 95% CI: 3.812 to 14.270). 19Association of Catalase Genotype with Oxidative Stress in the Predication of Colorectal Cancer:Modification by Epidemiological Factors显示文摘Objective This paper aims to assess the interaction between common variations in catalase(CAT) polymorphic gene and environmental factors for antioxidant defense enzyme in modulating individual susceptibility to colorectal cancer(CRC).Methods A case-control study with 880 colorectal cancer cases and 848 controls was conducted to investigate whether variations in the catalase(CAT) gene,one of the genes involved in scavenging oxidative stress,influenced susceptibility to CRC.Results The interaction between life style and genotypes as well as with their effects on colorectal cancer was deduced from the present study.Significant difference(P=0.01) was identified in the distribution of CAT genotype between the colorectal cancer cases and the controls.The CRC cases had significantly lower mean activity than the controls(P<0.01).Correlation analyses revealed statistically significant correlations between CAT activity and CAT genotype(P<0.01).Conclusion The risk of CRC was associated with smoking,low vegetable consumption,high pork and poultry consumptions,and low or high BMI.This is the first study reporting an association of polymorphism CAT-21A>T with colorectal cancer.Low CAT activity was associated with an increased risk of CRC;however,no evidence was found to support an association between CAT-21A>T polymorphism and CRC risk.CHANG Dong HU Zhang Liang ZHANG Lin ZHAO Ya Shuang MENG Qing Hui GUAN Qing Bai ZHOU Jin PAN Hong Zhi 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,2:2
20Trend Analysis of Cancer Mortality in the Jinchang Cohort, China,2001-2010显示文摘Objective To describe the baseline data of cancers in the Jinchang Cohort, this paper examined trends in cancer mortality among adults investigated in Jinchang, Gansu province from 2001 to 2010. Methods Mortality data were collected from company departments through administrative documents, death certificates, etc. Trend analyses of cancer mortality were performed on the basis of 925 cancer deaths between 2001 and 2010. Results The crude mortality rate of cancer continuously increased from 161.86 per 100,000 in 2001 to 315.32 per 100,000 in 2010, with an average increase of 7.69% per year in the Jinchang Cohort(16.41% in females compared to 6.04% in males), but the age-standardized mortality rate increased only in females. Thirteen leading cancers accounted for 92.10% of all cancer deaths. The five leading causes of cancer mortality in males were lung, gastric, liver, esophageal, and colorectal cancer, whereas those in females were lung, liver, gastric, breast, and esophageal cancer. Conclusion The overall cancer mortality rate increased from 2001 to 2010 in the Jinchang Cohort, with greater rate of increase in females than in males.
