| 2 | Rare earth doped cobalt aluminate blue as an environmentally benign colorant显示文摘Increasing energy cost calls for exterior coatings with high near infra-red reflectance,so as to reduce heat absorption and in turn cost of air-conditioning.While modulations of substrate,use of white metal oxides as pigments or under-layers has been reported in past,reports on metal oxide or doped metal oxide pigments with high NIR reflectance is scarce.We report for the first time a blue colored cobalt aluminate type pigment prepared through doping of cerium,praseodymium or neodymium.CIELAB color measurements and calculation ofDE indicated that the Nd doped sample had crystal size of(36±1)nm,bandgap value of(2.4±0.2)eV and color coordinates similar to that of cobalt aluminate.The molar ratio as estimated by EDX was found to be Al:Cu:Co:Ce:Nd:O=2:0.06:0.06:0.012:0.00012:6.18.The pigment was found to have potential applications as a cool blue colorant,owing to changes in optical properties arising out of crystal chemistry changes.Incorporation of rare earth metal ions was found to enhance the NIR reflectance by 10%,when compared to a conventional cobalt aluminate pigment.The oxide has been well characterized and its performance as a pigment evaluated.We have proposed that changes in crystal lattice when neodymium enters into Ce4+sites enhance the NIR reflectance by about 9%as against the entry of praseodymium. | Sri Parasara RADHIKA Kalarical Janardhanan SREERAM Balachandran Unni NAIR | 2012 | Journal of Advanced Ceramics2012，1，4： | 3 |

| 4 | Imaging of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: State of the art显示文摘Significant advances in imaging technology have changed the management of pancreatic cancer. In computed tomography (CT), this has included development of multidetector row, rapid, thin-section imaging that has also facilitated the advent of advanced reconstructions, which in turn has offered new perspectives from which to evaluate this disease. In magnetic resonance imaging, advances including higher field strengths, thin-section volumetric acquisitions, diffusion weighted imaging, and liver specific contrast agents have also resulted in new tools for diagnosis and staging. Endoscopic ultrasound has resulted in the ability to provide high-resolution imaging rivaling intraoperative ultrasound, along with the ability to biopsy via real time imaging suspected pancreatic lesions. Positron emission tomography with CT, while still evolving in its role, provides whole body staging as well as the unique imaging characteristic of metabolic activity to aid disease management. | 9 | Al-MCM-48分子筛对苯酚与乙酸异丙酯异丙基化反应的催化性能(英文)显示文摘Al-MCM-48 molecular sieves (Si/Al molar ratios = 25, 50, 75, and 100) were synthesized hydrothermally using cetyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide as the structure directing template. The orderly arrangement of mesopores was evident from the low angle X-ray diffraction patterns and transmission electron microscopy images. The catalytic performance of the materials was evaluated in the vapor phase isopropylation of phenol with isopropyl acetate. Phenol conversion decreased with the increase in the Si/Al ratio of the catalysts. The major reaction product was 4-isopropyl phenol with 78% selectivity. The delocalization of phenolic oxygen electron pair over the aromatic ring promoted para-selective alkylation. Such delocalization could be aided by the hydrophilic surface of the molecular sieves. | 10 | Cytotoxic (A549) and antimicrobial effects of Methylobacterium sp.isolate (ERI-135) from Nilgiris forest soil,India显示文摘Objective:To assess the antimicrobial and cytotoxic effects of Methylobacterium sp.isolated from soil sample of Doddabetta forest,Nilgiris,Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu.Methods:Isolation of Methylobacterium was performed from soils by serial dilution plate technique.The strain was grown in modified nutrient gulucose agar(MNGA)medium to study the morphology and biochemical characteristics.Methylobacterium sp.was screened for its antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria and fungi.The strain was subjected to 16S rRNA analysis and was identified as Methylohacterium sp.The nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA gene of the isolate exhibited close similarity with other Methylobacterium sp.and has been submitted to Genbank.The antibacterial substances were extracted using chloroform and ethyl acetate from MNGA medium in which ERI-135 had grown for 5 d at 30℃.Cytotoxic effect was also studied.GC-MS analysis was carried out.The antimicrobial activity was assessed using broth micro dilution technique.Results:Ethyl acetate extract showed activity against bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis,Klebsiella pneumoniae(K.pneumoniae),Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Salmonella typkimurium,Shigella flexneri,Enterobacter aerogenes,Staphylococcus aureu and Staphylococcus epidermidis(S.epidermidis)and fungi such as,Candida albicans and Trichophyton rubrum.The lowest minimum inhibitory concentrations were:250μg/mL against 5.epidermidis and 250μg/mL against K.pneumonia.The isolate had the ability to produce enzymes such as protease.The exyract showed cytotoxic effect in human adenocarcinoma cancer cell line(A549).GC-MS analysis showed the presence of isovaleric acid(3.64%),2-Methylbulanoic acid(5.03%),isobutyramide(5.05%),N,Noimethylformamide-di-t-butylacetal(9.79%),benzeneacetamide(15.56%),octyl butyl phthalate(3.59%)and diisooctyl phthalate(5.79)in the extract.Conclusions:Methylobaeterium sp.(ERI-135)showed promising antibacterial and cytotoxic activity.This is the first report in the antimicrobial and cytotoxic effect of Methylobaeterium sp. | Balachandran C Duraipandiyan V Ignacimuthu S | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012，2，9： | 2 |
