| 1 | Prevalence survey of infection with Treponema pallidum among HIV-positive patients in Tehran显示文摘Objective:To identify the frequency of syphilis among Iranian HIV-positive patients.Methods:A cross-sectional study on the prevalence of syphilis and HIV co-infection among 450 patients diagnosed with HIV infection was conducted between 2004 and 2008 at Imam Khomeini hospital,Tehran,Iran.The lab tests including CD4 cell count,cerebrospinal fluid,veneral disease research laboratory(VDRL),fluorescent treponema antibody-absorption(FTA-Abs)and viral load were performed for all the patients.Data regarding medical history and their demographics were also collected.Results:Of all 450 HIV-positive patients,24(5.3%)had a positive VDRL test and only two men had a FTA-Abs positive test which means 0.45%of them had a definite co-infection of syphilis.65.3%of the HIV-positive patients were injection drug users that the co-infection prevalence of them was 0.7%.We did not find any patient with neurosyphilis.Conclusions:Considering the increasing prevalence of HIV and also extensive use of highly active antiretroviral therapy in developing nations,the diagnosis of syphilis should be timely established using screening tests among such patients. | Banafsheh Moradmand Badie Zeinab Yavari Shooka Esmaeeli Koosha Paydary Sahra Emamzadeh-Fard SeyedAhmad SeyedAlinaghi Mehrnaz Rasoulinejad | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013，3，4： | 3 |
| 2 | Nanoporous membrane device for ultra high heat flux thermal management显示文摘High power density electronics are severely limited by current thermal management solutions which are unable to dissipate the necessary heat flux while maintaining safe junction temperatures for reliable operation.We designed,fabricated,and experimentally characterized a microfluidic device for ultra-high heat flux dissipation using evaporation from a nanoporous silicon membrane.With~100 nm diameter pores,the membrane can generate high capillary pressure even with low surface tension fluids such as pentane and R245fa.The suspended ultra-thin membrane structure facilitates efficient liquid transport with minimal viscous pressure losses.We fabricated the membrane in silicon using interference lithography and reactive ion etching and then bonded it to a high permeability silicon microchannel array to create a biporous wick which achieves high capillary pressure with enhanced permeability.The back side consisted of a thin film platinum heater and resistive temperature sensors to emulate the heat dissipation in transistors and measure the temperature,respectively.We experimentally characterized the devices in pure vaporambient conditions in an environmental chamber.Accordingly,we demonstrated heat fluxes of 665±74 W/cm^(2) using pentane over an area of 0.172mm×10mm with a temperature rise of 28.5±1.8 K from the heated substrate to ambient vapor.This heat flux,which is normalized by the evaporation area,is the highest reported to date in the pure evaporation regime,that is,without nucleate boiling.The experimental results are in good agreement with a high fidelity model which captures heat conduction in the suspended membrane structure as well as non-equilibrium and sub-continuum effects at the liquid–vapor interface.This work suggests that evaporative membrane-based approaches can be promising towards realizing an efficient,high flux thermal management strategy over large areas for high-performance electronics. | Daniel F.Hanks Zhengmao Lu Jay Sircar Todd R.Salamon Dion S.Antao Kevin R.Bagnall Banafsheh Barabadi Evelyn N.Wang | 2018 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2018，4，1： | 3 |
| 3 | Risk factors of regression and undercorrection in photorefractive keratectomy: a case-control study显示文摘AIM: To determine risk factors of regression and undercorrection following photorefractive keratectomy(PRK) in myopia or myopic astigmatism.·METHODS: A case-control study was designed in which eyes with an indication for re-treatment(RT) were defined as cases; primary criteria for RT indication, as assessed at least 9mo postoperatively, included an uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA) of 20/30 or worse and a stable refraction for more than 3mo.Additional considerations included optical quality symptoms and significant higher order aberrations(HOAs). Controls were chosen from the same cohort of operated eyes which had complete post-operative follow up data beyond 9mo and did not need RT. The cohort included patients who had undergone PRK by the Tissue-Saving(TS) ablation profile of Technolas 217z100 excimer laser(Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY, USA).Mitomycin C had been used in all of the primary procedures.·RESULTS: We had 70 case eyes and 158 control eyes,and they were comparable in terms of age, sex and follow-up time(P values: 0.58, 1.00 and 0.89,respectively). Pre-operative spherical equivalent of more than-5.00 diopter(D), intended optical zone(OZ)diameter of less than 6.00 mm and ocular fixation instability during laser ablation were associated with RT indications(all P values <0.001). | 4 | In vitro anti-leishmanial activity of methanolic extracts of Calendula officinalis flowers, Datura stramonium seeds, and Salvia officinalis leaves显示文摘AIM: The anti-leishmanial activity of methanolic extracts of Calendula officinalis flowers, Datura stramonium seeds, and Salvia officinalis leaves against extracellular(promastigote) and intracellular(amastigote) forms of Leishmania major were evaluated in this study. METHOD: In the first stage, promastigote forms of L. major, were treated with different doses of the plant extracts in a 96-well tissue-culture microplate and IC50 values for each extract were measured with colorimetric MTT assay. In the second stage, macrophage cells were infected with L. major promastigotes. Infected macrophages were treated with plant extracts. Then the macrophages were stained with Gimsa and the number of infected macrophages and amastigotes were counted with a light microscope. RESULTS: The results indicated that the plant extracts inhibited the growth of promastigotes and amastigotes of L. major. Inhibitory concentrations(IC50) for promastigote assay were 108.19, 155.15, and 184.32 μg·mL-1 for C. officinalis flowers, D. stramonium seeds and S. officinalis, respectively. The extracts also reduced the number of amastigotes in macrophage cells from 264 for control group to 88, 97, and 102 for test groups. Although the anti-leishmanial activity of the extracts were not comparable with the standard drug, miltefosine; but they showed significant efficiency in reducing the number of amastigotes in macrophages, in comparison with the control group(P < 0.001). These plant extracts had lower toxicity compared with miltefosine. | 11 | Anaerobic-aerobic processes for the treatment of textile dyeing wastewater containing three commercial reactive azo dyes:Effect of number of stages and bioreactor type显示文摘In this study,the effect of number of stages and bioreactor type on the removal performance of a sequential anaerobic-aerobic process employing activated sludge for the treatment of a simulated textile dyeing wastewater containing three commercial reactive azo dyes was considered.Two stage processes performed better than one stage ones,both in terms of overall organic and color removal,as well as the higher contribution of anaerobic stage to the overall removal performance,thereby making them a more energy efficient option.The employment of a moving bed sequencing batch biofilm reactor,which uses both suspended and attached biomass,for the implementation of the anaerobic stage of the process,was compared with a sequencing batch reactor that only employs suspended biomass.The results showed that,although there was no meaningful difference in biomass concentration between the two bioreactors,the latter reactor had better performance in terms of chemical oxygen demand(COD)removal efficiency and rate and color removal rate.Further exploratory tests revealed a difference between the roles of suspended and attached bacterial populations,with the former yielding better color removal whilst the latter had better COD removal performance.The sequential anaerobic–aerobic process,employing an aerobic membrane bioreactor in the aerobic stage resulted in COD and color removal of 77.1±7.9%and 79.9±1.5%,respectively.The incomplete COD and color removal was attributed to the presence of soluble microbial products in the effluent and the autoxidation of dye reduction metabolites,respectively.Also,aerobic partial mineralization of the dye reduction metabolites,was experimentally observed. | Banafsheh Azimi Elham Abdollahzadeh-Sharghi Babak Bonakdarpour | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021，34，11： | 1 |

| 15 | Three horizontal muscle surgery for large-angle esotropia: success rate and dose-effect ratio显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the moderate-term success and calculate the mean dose-effect ratio in large-angle esotropic patients who underwent three muscle surgery.METHODS: In a retrospective study, we reviewed the medical records of 37 patients with large-angle esotropia who underwent bilateral medial rectus recession and one lateral rectus resection. Sex, age at surgery time, amount of recessed or resected muscles in millimeter(mm), preand postoperative alignment in prism diopter(D), dose/response ratio, and presence of amblyopia and other associated vertical deviations were recorded.RESULTS: The mean age of subjects at surgery was 12.2±12.3 y(range: 1-57). The mean preoperative deviation of 70.4±8.1 D(range: 60-85 D) decreased to a mean of 5.4±8.1 D(range: 0-30 D) postoperatively(P<0.005). Successful alignment was achieved in 30 of 37 patients(81%) at a mean follow-up of 15.7±20.1 mo(range: 3-90).
