1Dietary resveratrol improves antioxidant status of sows and piglets and regulates antioxidant gene expression in placenta by Keap1-Nrf2 pathway and Sirt1显示文摘Background: Resveratrol, a plant phenol, affords protection against inflammation and oxidative stress. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary resveratrol supplementation during pregnancy and lactation on the antioxidant status of sows and piglets and on antioxidant gene expression and pathway in placenta.Methods: Forty sows were allotted to 2 dietary treatments 20 d after breeding. Sows were fed a control diet and a control diet with 300 mg/kg resveratrol. Oxidative stress biomarkers and antioxidant enzymes were measured in the placenta, milk, and plasma of sows and piglets. Antioxidant gene expression and protein expression of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1-Nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(Keap1-Nrf2), nuclear factor kappa B-p65(NFκB-p65) and sirtuin1(Sirt1) were quantified in the placenta.Results: Dietary resveratrol increased the litter and piglets weaning weights. Antioxidant status in the milk, placenta and plasma of sows and piglets was partially improved by dietary resveratrol. In placenta, Nrf2 protein expression was increased and Keap1 protein expression was decreased by dietary resveratrol. The m RNA expression of antioxidant genes including catalase(CAT), glutathione peroxidase 1(GPX1), GPX4, superoxide dismutase 1(SOD1)and heme oxygenase 1(HO1), and phase 2 detoxification genes, including glutamate-cysteine ligase modifier(GCLM), microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1(MGST1) and UDP glucuronosyltransferase family 1 member A1(UGT1 A1), was increased by dietary resveratrol. Dietary resveratrol also increased Sirt1 and phosphorylated NFκB-p65 protein expression in the placenta. We failed to observe any influences of dietary resveratrol on pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, including those of interleukin 1β(IL-1β), IL-6, IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α). However, we observed that the m RNA expression of IL-8 in placenta was reduced by maternal resveratrol. In addition, dietary resveratrol showed interactive effects with day of lactation on activities of SOD and CAT and levels of malonaldehyde(MDA) and hydrogen peroxide(H2 O2) in milk.Conclusions: Dietary resveratrol supplementation during pregnancy and lactation improves the antioxidant status of sows and piglets, which is beneficial to the reproductive performance of sows. 2Transcriptome analysis of the effect of pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium(PQQ·Na2) on reproductive performance in sows during gestation and lactation显示文摘Background: Pyrroloquinoline quinone(PQQ), which is a water soluble, thermo-stable triglyceride-quinone, is widely distributed in nature and characterized as a mammalian vitamin-like redox cofactor. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium(PQQ·Na2) on reproductive performance in sows.Results: Dietary supplementation with PQQ·Na2 significantly increased the total number of piglets born, the number of piglets born alive and the born alive litter weight. It also increased the antioxidant status in the placenta, plasma and milk. The concentration of NO was significantly increased in the plasma and placenta. RNA-seq analysis showed that462 unigenes were differentially expressed between the control(Con) treatment and PQQ treatment groups.Among these unigenes, 199 were upregulated, while 263 unigenes were downregulated. The assigned functions of the unigenes covered a broad range of GO categories. Reproduction(27, 7.03%) and the reproduction process(27, 7.03%) were assigned to the biological process category. 3Effect of cooling pad installation on indoor airflow distribution in a tunnel-ventilated laying-hen house显示文摘Extra cooling pads on the sidewalls are needed for larger poultry houses using tunnel ventilation system.Preliminary study showed that the airflow velocity going through different aisles varies greatly when the extra pads are installed at the end of sidewalls,making a“[”-shape air inlet.Combined with field tests,the CFD(computational fluid dynamics)technology was used to study the uniformity of airflow distribution in a tunnel-ventilated laying-hen house.The air distribution was first monitored in a layer house to find the main reason resulting in the variations of airflows in different aisles.Then CFD simulations were carried out with different distances(D=2 m,3 m or 4 m)between the pads on end-wall and the extra pads on side walls.The field test showed that airflow streams from the different groups of cooling pads collided vertically at the house corners,mixed with each other,then flew towards the center of the house.This was the main reason that the wind speed in the middle aisle was much higher than in other aisles,leaving large zones of lower ventilation in the aisles adjacent to the sidewalls.The results of CFD simulations indicated that air distributions could be significantly improved when the extra pieces of pads were moved away for an appropriate distance from the end coolingpads.As far as conventional poultry house with a span of 12 m,the air speeds in different aisles were more uniform when this distance was about 3 m.Hui Xue Zhu Qiang Ji-Qin Ni Li Baoming Shi Zhengxiang Zhao Shumei Wang Yu 2016International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2016,9,4:4
4Effects of Chinese herbs on lactation of rat and performance of offspring显示文摘An experiment was conducted to study the effects of different Chinese herbs on lactation in the rat. Seventy-two Sprague Dawley female rats at gestation day 18 were assigned to 9 groups randomly, with 8 rats each. Control rats were offered basal diets until the end of the weaning period. Rats in the other 8 groups were administered diets supplemented with 1% Medulla tetrapanacis (MT), Astragalus membranacens(AM), Vaccaria segetalis(VS), Leonurus heterophyllus sweet (LHS), Radix rehmanniae preparata (RRP), Squama manitis (SM), Schisandra chinensis (SC), Ligustrum lucidum (LL), respectively. After parturition, the litter size was culled to 8 pups per dam. Pup weight and milk yield were significantly higher in the VS, LHS, AM and SM groups than these in the control group during middle and late lactation (P<0.05 or P<0.01). 5Heat stress alleviation for dairy cows housed in an open-sided barn by cooling fan and perforated air ducting(PAD)system显示文摘Curtain-sided barns with circulation fans above stall are commonly used to house dairy cows in China.Many farms equipped with circulation fans are unable to provide appropriate cooling,especially for the naturally ventilated shed,which can result in decreasing feed intake and milk production.For alleviating heat stress and improving animal comfort,a system consisting of an air cooler and a 30 m perforated air duct(PAD)was integrated to evenly distribute cooling air.The air was cooled by underground water and delivered to targeted zones above stall bed.The system was evaluated in an open sided dairy barn in Tianjin,China.For the stalls equipped with PAD system,air velocity reached above 1.1 m/s at 0.5 m height plane of the stall space,and was more uniformly distributed.Compared to the stalls equipped with circulation fans,the PAD system lowered air temperature by 1.5℃,and increased relative humidity by 8.1%.On average,Temperature Humidity Index(THI)and Equivalent Temperature Index(ETI)were decreased by 0.5 and 0.6,respectively.After a 15 days’operation of the system,rectal temperatures of the treated dairy cows were significantly lowered.The results also showed that the cows under PADs had a higher milk production.These findings suggest the PAD can be an effective cooling alternative for naturally ventilated dairy barns to alleviate heat stress.Xie Lina Wang Chaoyuan Ding Luyu Gui Zhiyuan Zhang Lu Shi Zhengxiang Li Baoming Jia Chuntao 2017International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,6:2
6Inactivation efficiency of slightly acidic electrolyzed water against microbes on facility surfaces in a disinfection channel显示文摘Slightly acidic electrolyzed water(SAEW,pH 6.0-6.5)is an ideal and environmentally-friendly disinfectant,which was used to prevent and control bacterial infections on farms.This work aims to investigate the inactivation effectiveness of SAEW in inactivating microbes in a disinfection channel.The bactericidal efficiency of SAEW on equipment surfaces was compared to two commercial disinfectants,Kuei A bromide solution(KAS,5:1000 v/v)and Glutaraldehyde solution(GS,5:1000 v/v).The disinfection effectiveness of SAEW in inactivating Salmonella enteritidis(S.enteritidis)on equipment surfaces in the disinfection channel was evaluated,and a model was developed using multiple linear regression analysis.Results indicated that SAEW was significantly(p<0.05)more efficient than KAS and GS on kits and clothing in the disinfection channel at 1 min.The SAEW did not contribute as aggressively to respiratory difficulty as KAS and GS.Maximum reductions of 2.362 log10 CFU/cm^(2),2.613 log10 CFU/cm^(2) and 2.359 log10 CFU/cm^(2) for Salmonella enteritidis were obtained from clothing surfaces,iron materials,and kits treated with SAEW for 2.5 min at a chlorine concentration of 220 mg/L.Moreover,the established model had a good fit-quantified by the determination coefficient R^(2)(0.939)and a lack of fit test(p>0.05).In addition,available chlorine concentration(ACC)was an important factor than other factors,and the inactivation efficiency of Salmonella enteritidis sprayed by SAEW treatment was different between iron materials,kits and clothing surfaces(iron>kit>clothing).Zang Yitian Li Baoming Shi Zhengxiang Sheng Xiaowei Wu Hongxiang Shu Dengqun 2017International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,6:2
7Reducing feather pecking and cloacal cannibalism by providing layer breeders with nest boxes in colony cages for natural mating显示文摘Colony cages for natural mating have been applied on many layer breeder farms.However,feather pecking and cloacal cannibalism are considered as prominent problems for these systems.This study aimed to investigate the effects on feather pecking and vent pecking behaviors by providing layer breeders with nest boxes(0.90 m L×0.40 m W×0.60 m H)in colony cages for natural mating(4.80 m L×1.20 m W×0.71 m H).Video recording and artificial observation were adopted.The results showed that the usage of nest boxes gradually increased from the beginning of nest boxes providing at the age of 37 weeks to the end of the experiment at the age of 55 weeks.The utilization rates of nest boxes were 36.75%,44.75%and 50.38%at the ages of 41 weeks,47 weeks and 53 weeks,respectively.The hens in the cages without nest boxes showed significantly more frequent gentle feather pecks(both given and received)than hens in the cages with nest boxes at the ages of 41 weeks,47 weeks and 53 weeks.A decreasing trend of gentle feather pecking frequency(both given and received)was found with the increasing age for both the two groups.No significant difference was found in the number of given or received severe feather pecks at the age of 41 weeks.The hens in the cages without nest boxes showed a significantly higher frequency of given and received severe feather pecks than hens in the cages with nest boxes at the ages of 47 weeks and 53 weeks(p<0.05).Both cannibalistic injury occurrence and mortality rate in the cages with nest boxes were significantly lower than those in the cages without nest boxes.In conclusion,providing nest boxes in colony cages for natural mating could decrease abnormal pecking behaviors and improve animal welfare conditions of layer breeders.Haipeng Shi Weichao Zheng Jiang Tu Baoming Li 2018International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,6:1

11Glucose supplementation improves intestinal amino acid transport and muscle amino acid pool in pigs during chronic cold exposure显示文摘Mammals in northern regions chronically suffer from low temperatures during autumn-winter seasons.The aim of this study was to investigate the response of intestinal amino acid transport and the amino acid pool in muscle to chronic cold exposure via Min pig models(cold adaptation)and Yorkshire pig models(non-cold adaptation).Furthermore,this study explored the beneficial effects of glucose supplementation on small intestinal amino acid transport and amino acid pool in muscle of cold-exposed Yorkshire pigs.Min pigs(Exp.1)and Yorkshire pigs(Exp.2)were divided into a control group(17℃,n=6)and chronic cold exposure group(7℃,n=6),respectively.Twelve Yorkshire pigs(Exp.3)were divided into a cold control group and cold glucose supplementation group(8℃).The results showed that chronic cold exposure inhibited peptide transporter protein 1(PepT1)and excitatory amino acid transporter 3(EAAT3)expression in ileal mucosa and cationic amino acid transporter-1(CAT-1)in the jejunal mucosa of Yorkshire pigs(P<0.05).In contrast,CAT-1,PepT1 and EAAT3 expression was enhanced in the duodenal mucosa of Min pigs(P<0.05).Branched amino acids(BCAA)in the muscle of Yorkshire pigs were consumed by chronic cold exposure,accompanied by increased muscle RING-finger protein-1(MuRF1)and muscle atrophy F-box(atrogin-1)expression(P<0.05).More importantly,reduced concentrations of dystrophin were detected in the muscle of Yorkshire pigs(P<0.05).However,glycine concentration in the muscle of Min pigs was raised(P<0.05).In the absence of interaction between chronic cold exposure and glucose supplementation,glucose supplementation improved CAT-1 expression in the jejunal mucosa and PepT1 expression in the ileal mucosa of cold-exposed Yorkshire pigs(P<0.05).It also improved BCAA and inhibited MuRF1 and atrogin-1 expression in muscle(P<0.05).Moreover,dystrophin concentration was improved by glucose supplementation(P<0.05).In summary,chronic cold exposure inhibits amino acid absorption in the small intestine,depletes BCAA and promotes protein degradation in muscle.Glucose supplementation ameliorates the negative effects of chronic cold exposure on amino acid transport and the amino acid pool in muscle.Teng Teng Xin Song Guodong Sun Hongwei Ding Haoyang Sun Guangdong Bai Baoming Shi 2023Animal Nutrition2023,,1:1

15Adaptability of pullets from cages to a large cage aviary unit system during the initial settling-in period显示文摘Pullets often raised in cage system from week 1 to week 13 in China,when transferred to aviary system after,there will be a problem with adapt.A large cage aviary unit(LCAU)system was developed,which allocated with facilities such as ramps to help cage reared hens to adapt to the multi-tier space.To investigate hens’adaptability to the new system,space use over time in the LCAU system during the first 10 days after hens transferred were recorded,instantaneous scan sampling and continuous focal sampling were used to assess the behavior difference of hens between the LCAU and conventional cage(CC)systems.On the first day of arrival,10.03% of hens reached the second tier(S2)and the third tier(S3)of the aviary.During the observation period,an average of 2.42% of hens climbed and stayed at the upper tiers every day.Space allowance on floor of the first tier(S1)increased from 444.62 cm^(2)/hen(91 d)to 586.32 cm^(2)/hen(100 d),which was more than 540 cm^(2)/hen in the CC system.Comfort behaviors in the LCAU system were significantly more than in the CC system(p<0.01)and hens performed more comfort behaviors with the increase of days after transferred.Hens ate and drank less in the LCAU system in the beginning,however,with the increasing use of upper space,hens ate and drank more and more in the LCAU system during the 10 days after transferred from CC system.Consequently,there were no difference of feed behavior between the CC and LCAU systems(p>0.05)on the last 5 days of the whole observing period.The results indicated that hens gradually learned to use the 3-dimensional space in the initial settling-in period and,gained a good welfare condition in LCAU system.Further studies are needed to investigate the three-dimensional preferences and behavior expression in difference period to bridge the gap in knowledge of space use capacity among adult laying hens.Liu Yang Qin Tong Haipeng Shi Gang Chen Zhengxiang Shi Weichao Zheng Baoming Li 2018International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,5:0
16Resveratrol alleviates oxidative stress induced by oxidized soybean oil and improves gut function via changing gut microbiota in weaned piglets显示文摘Background Oxidized soybean oil(OSO)has been shown to impair growth and exacerbate inflammation,leading to intestinal barrier injury in animals.Recent evidence suggests important roles for resveratrol(RES)in the promoting growth performance,antioxidant capacity,anti-inflammatory,and regulate intestinal barriers in animals.Therefore,The objectives of this study are to investigate the effects of dietary RES(purity 98%)supplementation on the growth performance,antioxidant capacity,inflammatory state,and intestinal function of weaned piglets challenged with OSO.Methods A total of 28 castrated weaned male piglets with a similar body weight of 10.197 replications per treatment and±0.10 kg were randomly assigned to 4 dietary treatments for 28-d feeding trial with 1 piglet per replicate.Treatments were arranged as a 2×2 factorial with oil type[3%fresh soybean oil(FSO)vs.3%OSO]and dietary RES(0vs.300 mg/kg).Results The results showed that relative to the FSO group,OSO stress tended to decrease the average daily feed intake(ADFI),and decreased the activity levels of lipase,villus/crypt ratio(VCR),the mRNA expression of FABP1,SOD2,IL-10 and ZO-1 in the jejunum,and SOD2,GPX1,occludin and ZO-1 in the colon,the levels of acetic acid in the colonic digesta,whereas up-regulated the mRNA expression of IL-1βand TNF-αin the jejunum(P<0.05).Moreover,dietary supplementation with RES increased ether extract(EE),the activity levels of sucrase,lipase,α-amylase,villus height(VH)and VCR,the mRNA expression of FABP1,SOD2,IL-10 and occludin in the jejunum,and FABP1,PPAR-γ,GPX1,occludin and ZO-1 in the colon,and the abundance of Firmicutes,acetic and propionic acid,but decreased the levels of D-lactic acid in the plasma,the abundance of Bacteroidetes in the colonic digesta of weaned piglets compared to the non-RES group(P<0.05).Meanwhile,in the interaction effect analysis,relative to the OSO group,dietary RES supplementation in the diets supplemented with OSO increased the activity levels of trypsin,VH in the jejunum,the abundance of Actinobacteria,the levels of butyric acid of weaned piglets,but failed to influence the activity levels of trypsin and VH,Actinobacteria abundance,the levels of butyric acid when diets were supplemented with FSO(interaction,P<0.05).Relative to the OSO group,dietary RES supplementation in the diets supplemented with OSO decreased the activity levels of DAO in the plasma of weaned piglets but failed to influence the activity levels of DAO when diets were supplemented with FSO(interaction,P<0.05).Relative to the FSO group,dietary RES supplementation in the diets supplemented with FSO decreased the level of propionic acid,whereas RES supplementation failed to influence the level of propionic acid when the diet was supplemented with OSO(interaction,P<0.01).Conclusions Inclusion of OSO intensified inflammatory states and impaired the intestinal health characteristics of weaned piglets.Dietary RES supplementation improved the antioxidant capacity,anti-inflammatory activity,and intestinal morphology.Further studies showed that the protective effects of RES on gut health could be linked to the decreased abundance of Prevotella_1,Clostridium_sensu_stricto_6,and Prevotellaceae_UCG003 and increased levels of acetic and propionic acid.Yanan Gao Qingwei Meng Jianwei Qin Qianqian Zhao Baoming Shi 2023Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2023,14,4:0
17A local spectrum enhancement-based method and its application in incipient fault diagnosis of rotating machinery显示文摘Incipient faults of gears and rolling bearings in rotating machineries are very difficult to identify using traditional envelope analysis methods.To address this challenge,this paper proposes an effective local spectrum enhancement‐based diagnostic method that can identify weak fault frequencies in the original complicated raw signals.For this purpose,a traversal frequency band segmentation technique is first proposed for dividing the raw signal into a series of subfrequency bands.Then,the proposed synthetic quantitative index is constructed for selecting the most informative local frequency band(ILFB)containing fault features from the divided subfrequency bands.Furthermore,an improved grasshopper optimization algorithmbased stochastic resonance(SR)system is developed for enhancing weak fault features contained in the selected most ILFB with less computation cost.Finally,the enhanced weak fault frequencies are extracted from the output of the SR system using a common spectrum analysis.Two experiments on a laboratory planetary gearbox and an open bearing data set are used to verify the effectuality of the proposed method.The diagnostic results demonstrate that the proposed method can identify incipient faults of gears and bearings in an effective and accurate manner.Furthermore,the advantages of the proposed method are highlighted by comparison with other methods.Jiancong Shi Baoming Xu Xinglong Wang Jun Zhang 2023International Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics2023,3,2:0

19Influence of Early Quantitative Feed Restriction on Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Broiler Chickens显示文摘An experiment was conducted to study the influence of early quantitative feed restriction on the performance and carcass characteristics of broiler chickens. Two hundred 8-day-old commercial Avian male broiler chicks were assigned to four groups randomly, with 50 broilers each. At the age of 8 days the broilers were restricted to 90%, 80% or 70% of the ad libitum intake for 7 days. When the restricion was finished, all birds received feed ad libitum again. The results showed that diet restriction resulted in a reduction in body weight and daily gain during the restriction period (P <0.05). The birds restricted to 90% of the ad libitum intake showed the occurring of growth compensation in the 3rd week. The birds restricted to 80% and 70% of the ad libitum intake had growth compensation in the 4th week. 20Effects of ripple cross angles and turbulence models on wet curtain resistance显示文摘To study the influence of ripple cross angles on the resistance of wet curtains,wet curtains with different ripple cross angles(45°/45°,45°/15°)were tested on agricultural ventilation equipment performance testing benches,and the static pressure drop under different wind speeds(1-3 m/s)was determined.Four turbulence models(κ-ε,RNGκ-ε,κ-ω,SSTκ-ω)were adopted for numerical simulations of the two types of wet curtain,and the simulations’results were compared with those of experiments.The average errors found are 41.1%,48.7%,27.1%,and 27.8%,respectively,and theκ-ωmodel is found to be the most suitable one for the calculation of wet curtain resistance among the four turbulence models.By using theκ-ωturbulence model,the static pressure drop performances of wet curtains with ripple cross angles 45°/35°and 45°/25°were calculated.Resistance increases with wind speed and ripple cross angles,and a large ripple cross angle has a higher resistance growth rate with increasing wind speed.Tao Ding Lumeng Fang Zhengxiang Shi Baoming Li Yang Zhao 2019International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2019,12,4:0
