1Clinical and paraclinical profile, and predictors of outcome in 90 cases of scrub typhus, Meghalaya, India显示文摘Background:India is an integral component of“tsutsugamushi triangle”which depicts a part of the globe endemic to scrub typhus.Owing to frequent outbreaks witnessed in different parts of the country in the recent past,scrub typhus is described as a re-emerging infectious disease in India.The present study aimed to study the clinical and paraclinical profile,complications and predictors of outcome among 90 cases of scrub typhus diagnosed in a hospital of north-eastern India from Sept 2011 to Aug 2012.Methods:A longitudinal study was conducted in a hospital of Meghalaya,India between Sept 2011 and Aug 2012.Diagnosis of scrub typhus was arrived by SD BIOLINE tsutsugamushi(solid phase immunochromatographic assay)rapid diagnostic test for antibodies(IgM,IgG or IgA).Descriptive analyses of age,gender,geographic area,symptoms and signs,treatment,laboratory findings,complications,and outcome were conducted.Relative risk(RR)with 95%confidence interval(CI)was computed for Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome(MODS)and mortality.Binary logistic regression was applied to the significant correlates(P<0.05)on univariate analysis to identify the predictors of MODS and mortality in scrub typhus.Results:As many as 662 clinically suspected scrub typhus patients were tested and 90(13.6%)were diagnosed to have scrub typhus.Out of 90 patients,52.2%(n=47)were males and their mean(SD)age was 36.29(13.38)years.Fever of<7 days(n=75,83.3%),myalgia(n=56,62.2%),pain abdomen(n=24,26.7%),headache(n=24,26.7%),nausea/vomiting(n=21,23.3%),dry cough(n=21,23.3%),hepatomegaly(n=24,26.7%),splenomegaly(n=22,24.4%),and lymphadenopathy(n=20,22.2%)were the predominant clinical features.Eschar was seen in 10 patients(11.1%).One third(n=30)of the patients developed at least one systemic complication.Acute hepatitis(n=15,16.7%),pneumonitis(n=14,15.6%),and acute kidney injury(n=11,12.2%)were the common complications.MODS was seen in 14.4%(n=13)and 38.5%(n=5)of the patients with MODS died.Overall,case fatality rate was 5.15%(n=5).On univariate analysis,platelets<100000/mm3,serum creatinine>1.5 mg/dl,and transaminase(AST,ALT or both)>500 U/L were associated with MODS(P<0.001)and mortality(P<0.05).In addition,serum bilirubin>3 mg/dl was also associated with MODS(P<0.001).On applying binary logistic regression,serum creatinine>1.5 mg/dl was a predictor of MODS(OR:76.1,95%CI:4.9–1175.6)and mortality(OR:18.03,95%CI:1.38–235.1).Conclusion:In this study setting,approximately one-seventh(13.6%)of the acute undifferentiated febrile illness were due to scrub typhus.Systemic complications were common(33.3%).Serum creatinine>1.5 mg/dl was a predictor of MODS and mortality.Sunuraj Sivarajan Siddharudha Shivalli Debomallya Bhuyan Michael Mawlong Rittwick Barman 2016Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1:6
2Garden rue inhibits the arachidonic acid pathway, scavenges free radicals, and elevates FRAP: role in inflammation显示文摘AIM:In the present study,the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of the methanol extract of Ruta graveolens leaves(RG-M) were evaluated using various in vivo and in vitro models.METHOD:For anti-inflammatory activity,RG-M was administered by the oral route(p.o.) in a carrageenan–induced paw edema model,and by the intraperitoneal route(i.p.) in an exudative inflammation model.In vitro inhibition of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes was evaluated.In vitro antioxidant activity was also examined.Endogenous antioxidant status was further evaluated by ferric reducing ability of plasma model.RESULTS:RG-M showed maximum inhibition of carrageenan-induced edema(100 mg·kg-1–33.36%; 200 mg·kg-1–45.32% and 400 mg·kg-1–56.28%).In the exudative inflammation model,a significant reduction in leukocyte migration(200 mg·kg-1–54.75% and 400 mg·kg-1–77.97%) and protein exudation(200 mg·kg-1–31.14% and 400 mg·kg-1–49.91%) were observed.RG-M also exhibited inhibition of COX–1(IC50 182.27 μg·mL-1) and COX–2(IC50 190.16 μg·mL-1) as well as 5–LOX(IC50 215.71 μg·mL-1).Antioxidant activity was significant with improved endogenous antioxidant status.CONCLUSION:The results demonstrated the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity of RG-M with potent inhibitory effects on the arachidonic acid pathways.Manjir Sarma Kataki Bibhuti B Kakoti Biman Bhuyan Ananya Rajkumari Prakash Rajak 2014Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2014,12,3:3
3多西紫杉醇节律化疗联合地塞米松抗小鼠肺癌血管生成的实验研究显示文摘目的探讨多西紫杉醇节律化疗及地塞米松对C57BL/6小鼠Lewis肺癌(LLC)肿瘤生长和血管生成的影响。方法C57BL/6小鼠皮下接种LLC细胞,随机分组后分别给予相应治疗。隔天测量小鼠体重及肿瘤体积。小鼠处死后称瘤重,应用免疫组化检测小鼠肿瘤组织中CD34和HIF-1α蛋白表达。结果对照组皮下瘤重明显大于节律组、地塞米松组和联合组。对照组微血管密度(MVD)明显高于三个实验组(P〈0.05),三个实验组HIF-1α蛋白表达较对照组显著下降(P〈0.05)。结论多西紫杉醇节律化疗和地塞米松可明显抑制LLC的生长及血管生成,其可能的机制之一是通过下调小鼠肿瘤组织中HIF—1α的表达而间接实现抗肿瘤血管生成作用。蔡政 胡秀峰 周芳 韩颖 Soumitra sudip bhuyan 李醒亚 2007中原医刊2007,34,8:2
4Targeting Glycinebetaine for Abiotic Stress Tolerance in Crop Plants:Physiological Mechanism,Molecular Interaction and Signaling显示文摘In the era of climate change,abiotic stresses(e.g.,salinity,drought,extreme temperature,flooding,metal/metalloid(s),UV radiation,ozone,etc.)are considered as one of the most complex environmental constraints that restricts crop production worldwide.Introduction of stress-tolerant crop cultivars is the most auspicious way of surviving this constraint,and to produce these types of tolerant crops.Several bioengineering mechanisms involved in stress signaling are being adopted in this regard.One example of this kind of manipulation is the osmotic adjustment.The quarternary ammonium compound glycinebetaine(GB),also originally referred to as betaine is a methylated glycine derivative.Among the betaines,GB is the most abundant one in plants,which is mostly produced in response to dehydration caused by different abiotic stresses like drought,salinity,and extreme temperature.Glycinebetaine helps in decreased accumulation and detoxification of ROS,thereby restoring photosynthesis and reducing oxidative stress.It takes part in stabilizing membranes and macromolecules.It is also involved in the stabilization and protection of photosynthetic components,such as ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase,photosystem II and quarternary enzyme and protein complex structures under environmental stresses.Glycinebetaine was found to perform in chaperone-induced protein disaggregation.In addition,GB can confer stress tolerance in very low concentrations,and it acts in activating defense responsive genes with stress protection.Recently,field application of GB has also shown protective effects against environmental adversities increasing crop yield and quality.In this review,we will focus on the role of GB in conferring abiotic stress tolerance and the possible ways to engineer GB biosynthesis in plants.Mirza Hasanuzzaman Aditya Banerjee M.H.M.Borhannuddin Bhuyan Aryadeep Roychoudhury Jubayer Al Mahmud Masayuki Fujita 2019Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2019,88,3:2
5Potassium-Induced Regulation of Cellular Antioxidant Defense and Improvement of Physiological Processes in Wheat under Water Deficit Condition显示文摘Drought is the most common form of abiotic stress that reduces plant growth and productivity.It causes plant injuries through elevated production of reactive oxygen species(ROS).Potassium(K)is a vital plant nutrient that notably ameliorates the detrimental effect of drought stress in the plant.A pot experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Stress Responses,Faculty of Agriculture,Kagawa University,Japan,under controlled environment of green house to explore the role of K in mitigating drought severity in wheat(Triticum asevitum L.)seedlings.Three days after germination,seedlings were exposed to three water regimes viz.,100,50,and 20%field capacity(FC)for 21 days.Potassium was adjusted in Hoagland nutrient solution at 0,6 and 12 mM concentration and applied to pot instead of normal water.Results show that,water deficit stress notably reduced plant growth,biomass accumulation,leaf relative water content(RWC)along with reduced photosynthetic pigments.Increased amount of biochemical stress markers viz.,malondialdehyde(MDA),hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)),methylglyoxal(MG),proline(Pro)as well as an impaired antioxidant defense system were observed in drought affected wheat plants.On the contrary,K supplementation resulted in improvement of biochemical and physiological parameters that worked behind in improving growth and development of the wheat plants.In addition,enzymes of ascorbateglutathione(AsA-GSH)cycle were also enhanced by supplemented K that accelerated the ROS detoxification process in plant.Although glyoxalse system did not performed well till MG was detoxified might following another short stepped pathways.Our results revealed that drought stressed plants showed better performances in terms of biochemical and physiological attributes,antioxidant defense and glyoxalase system,as well as ROS detoxification due to K supplementation with better performance at 12 mM K added in 50%FC growing condition.Abdul Awal Chowdhury Masud MdFazlul Karim M.H.M.Borhannuddin Bhuyan Jubayer Al Mahmud Kamrun Nahar Masayuki Fujita Mirza Hasanuzzaman 2021Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2021,90,2:2
