1Bone morphogenetic protein-2 is a negative regulator of hepatocyte proliferation downregulated in the regenerating liver显示文摘AIM: To characterize the expression and dynamic changes of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2 in hepatocytes in the regenerating liver in rats after partial hepatectomy (PH), and examine the effects of BMP-2 on proliferation of human Huh7 hepatoma cells. METHODS: Fifty-four adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: A normal control (NC) group, a partial hepatectomized (PH) group and a sham operated (SO) group. To study the effect of liver regeneration on BMP-2 expression, rats were sacrificed before and at different time points after PH or the sham intervention (6, 12, 24 and 48 h). For each time point, six rats were used in parallel. Expression and distribution of BMP-2 protein were determined in regenerating liver tissue by Western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry. Effects of BMP-2 on cell proliferation of human Huh7 hepatoma cell line were assessed using an MTT assay.RESULTS: In the normal liver strong BMP-2 expression was observed around the central and portal veins. The expression of BMP-2 decreased rapidly as measured by both immunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis. This decrease was at a maximum of 3.22 fold after 12 h and returned to normal levels at 48 h after PH. No significant changes in BMP-2 immunoreactivity were observed in the SO group. BMP-2 inhibited serum induced Huh7 cell proliferation.CONCLUSION: BMP-2 is expressed in normal adult rat liver and negatively regulates hepatocyte proliferation. 2Adhesive wear mechanisms uncovered by atomistic simulations显示文摘In this review, we discuss our recent advances in modeling adhesive wear mechanisms using coarse-grained atomistic simulations. In particular, we present how a model pair potential reveals the transition from ductile shearing of an asperity to the formation of a debris particle. This transition occurs at a critical junction size, which determines the particle size at its birth. Atomistic simulations also reveal that for nearby asperities, crack shielding mechanisms result in a wear volume proportional to an effective area larger than the real contact area. As the density of microcontacts increases with load, we propose this crack shielding mechanism as a key to understand the transition from mild to severe wear. We conclude with open questions and a road map to incorporate these findings in mesoscale continuum models. 5Superconducting single-photon detectors integrated with diamond nanophotonic circuits显示文摘Photonic quantum technologies hold promise to repeat the success of integrated nanophotonic circuits in non-classical applications.Using linear optical elements,quantum optical computations can be performed with integrated optical circuits and can therefore overcome the existing limitations in terms of scalability.In addition to passive optical devices for realizing photonic quantum gates,active elements,such as single-photon sources and single-photon detectors,are essential ingredients for future optical quantum circuits.Material systems that allow for the monolithic integration of all components are particularly attractive,including III-V semiconductors,silicon and diamond.Here,we demonstrate nanophotonic integrated circuits made from high-quality polycrystalline diamond thin films in combination with on-chip single-photon detectors.By using superconducting nanowires that are coupled evanescently to traveling waves,we achieve high detection efficiencies of up to 66%as well as low dark count rates and a timing resolution of 190 ps.Our devices are fully scalable and hold promise for functional diamond photonic quantum devices.Patrik Rath Oliver Kahl Simone Ferrari Fabian Sproll Georgia Lewes-Malandrakis Dietmar Brink Konstantin Ilin Michael Siegel Christoph Nebel Wolfram Pernice 2015Light(Science & Applications)2015,4,1:3
6Past,present and future of industrial plantation forestry and implication on future timber harvesting technology显示文摘Plantation forests are established,and expanding,to satisfy increasing global demand for timber products.Shifting societal values,such as safety,productivity,environmental,quality and social are influencing the plantation forestry sector.This is primarily driven through an ever increasing world population,which in turn influences the way nations view the value systems by which they live.More people require more resources-also forest products.Also,the availability of information is influencing the pace of technological development.These changes could result in a difference in the management of plantations that could affect the forest engineering systems of the future.This review aimed to summarize the current status of plantation forests;summarize future developments and possible scenarios in forest plantation management for the various products;and assess whether these developments in a plantation environment could affect the harvesting systems used.Factors influencing the form of plantations include the type and nature of the plantation owner;the change in demand for different and new forest products;climate change factors,including the use of biomass for energy,carbon sequestration and trading;ecosystem services and other products and services;and sustainability certification of forest management.The impact and influence of these factors were summarised into a series of key drivers that will influence the technology used in harvesting machines,as well as the choice of harvesting machines,systems and methods.These drivers were the effect of variations in tree size,the expansion of plantation areas onto more difficult terrain,diversity in plantation design,increased attention towards site impacts and the increased use of biomass for energy.Specific information is provided regarding how the harvesting systems could be affected.Andrew McEwan Enrico Marchi Raffaele Spinelli Michal Brink 2020Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,2:3

11Involuntary admission and treatment of patients with mental disorder显示文摘Despite the efforts of the World Health Organization to internationally standardize strategies for mental-health care delivery,the rules and regulations for involuntary admission and treatment of patients with mental disorder still differ markedly across countries. This review was undertaken to describe the regulations and mental-health laws from diverse countries and districts of Europe(UK,Austria,Denmark,France,Germany,Italy,Ireland,and Norway),the Americas(Canada,USA,and Brazil),Australasia(Australia and New Zealand),and Asia(Japan and China). We outline the criteria and procedures for involuntary admission to psychiatric hospitals and to community services,illustrate the key features oflaws related to these issues,and discuss their implications for contemporary psychiatric practice. This review may help to standardize the introduction oflegislation that allows involuntary admission and treatment of patients with mental disorders in the mainland of China,and contribute to improved mental-health care.
