Transition prediction of the supersonic boundary layer on a cone under the consideration of receptivity to slow acoustic waves显示文摘Transition prediction of the supersonic boundary layer on a cone with small angle of attack and Mach number 3.5 is investi-gated under the consideration of receptivity to slow acoustic waves, as the acoustic waves are the main environmental distur-bances in a conventional, i.e. non-quiet, wind tunnel. It is shown that the e-N method can still yield fairly satisfactory results incomparison with those obtained in wind tunnel experiments, provided that the boundary layer receptivity to slow acousticwaves is properly taken into account, including the dependence of the amplitude of disturbances on the frequency andstream-wise location. Neither the conventional e-N method nor the improved e-N method can yield correct result of transitionprediction, because the receptivity mechanisms considered there are not in accord with the real situation in the wind tunnel.SU CaiHong ZHOU Heng 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,10:6
Physical implication of two problems in transition prediction of boundary layers based on linear stability theory显示文摘Up to now,the most widely used method for transition prediction is the one based on linear stability theory. When it is applied to three-dimensional boundary layers, one has to choose the direction,or path, along which the growth rate of the disturbance is to be integrated. The direction given by using saddle point method in the theory of complex variable function is seen as mathematically most reasonable. However, unlike the saddle point method applied to water waves, here its physical meaning is not so obvious,as the frequency and wave number may be complex. And on some occasions,in advancing the integration of the growth rate of the disturbance,up to a certain location, one may not be able to continue the integration, because the condition for specifying the direction set by the saddle point method can no longer be satisfied on the basis of continuously varying wave number. In this paper, these two problems are discussed, and suggestions for how to do transition prediction under the latter condition are provided.SU CaiHong 2014Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2014,57,5:5
Response of a hypersonic blunt cone boundary layer to slow acoustic waves with assessment of various routes of receptivity显示文摘The hypersonic boundary-layer receptivity to slow acoustic waves is investigated for the Mach 6 flow over a 5-degree half-angle blunt cone with the nose radius of 5.08 mm. The plane acoustic wave interacts with the bow shock, and generates all types of disturbances behind the shock, which may take various routes to generate the boundarylayer unstable mode. In this paper, two routes of receptivity are investigated in detail. One is through the disturbance in the entropy layer. The other is through the slow acoustic wave transmitted downstream the bow shock, which can excite the boundary-layer mode due to the synchronization mechanism. The results show that, for a low frequency slow acoustic wave, the latter route plays a leading role. The entropy-layer instability wave is able to excite the first mode near the neutral point, but its receptivity efficiency is much lower.Bingbing WAN Jisheng LUO Caihong SU 2018Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2018,39,11:5
The variation of transition location in response to the variation of the amplitudes of initial disturbances显示文摘The transition location of a boundary layer depends on the amplitude and characteristic of initial disturbances. The larger the amplitude and the amplification rate of the initial disturbances are,the more upstream the transition location is. However, the environment surrounding the flying vehicle is variable,so the amplitude and characteristic of the disturbances triggered in the boundary layer through receptivity are also variable. In this paper, how the transition location varies in response to the variation of the initial disturbance amplitudes is studied by using direct numerical simulation. The results show that if the initial disturbance amplitudes become smaller, the transition location moves downstream correspondingly, but there is a time delay compared to the time of arrival of the disturbances with reduced amplitudes. Moreover, the speed of moving downstream is appreciably lower than the propagation speed of the disturbances. On the other hand,if the amplitudes of the initial disturbances recover their original value, the transition would immediately take place whenever the disturbances reach the former transition location, but the laminar flow between the new and old transition locations would not become turbulent immediately. Theoretical explanations are provided based on the transition mechanism found by our group.SU CaiHong & ZHOU Heng Department of Mechanics,Tianjin University,Tianjin 300072,China 2010Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2010,53,6:2
Interaction of weak free-stream disturbance with an oblique shock: validation of the shock-capturing method显示文摘Transition prediction is of great importance for the design of long distance flying vehicles. It starts from the problem of receptivity, i.e., how external disturbances trigger instability waves in the boundary layer. For super/hypersonic boundary layers, the external disturbances first interact with the shock ahead of the flying vehicles before entering the boundary layer. Since direct numerical simulation(DNS) is the only available tool for its comprehensive and detailed investigation, an important problem arises whether the numerical scheme, especially the shock-capturing method, can faithfully reproduce the interaction of the external disturbances with the shock, which is so far unknown. This paper is aimed to provide the answer. The interaction of weak disturbances with an oblique shock is investigated, which has a known theoretical solution. Numerical simulation using the shock-capturing method is conducted, and results are compared with those given by theoretical analysis, which shows that the adopted numerical method can faithfully reproduce the interaction of weak external disturbances with the shock.Caihong SU Jinlei GENG 2017Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2017,38,11:2
Self-consistent parabolized stability equation(PSE) method for compressible boundary layer显示文摘The parabolized stability equation(PSE) method has been proven to be a useful and convenient tool for the investigation of the stability and transition problems of boundary layers. However, in its original formulation, for nonlinear problems, the complex wave number of each Fourier mode is determined by the so-called phase-locked rule, which results in non-self-consistency in the wave numbers. In this paper, a modification is proposed to make it self-consistent. The main idea is that, instead of allowing wave numbers to be complex, all wave numbers are kept real, and the growth or decay of each mode is simply manifested in the growth or decay of the modulus of its shape function. The validity of the new formulation is illustrated by comparing the results with those from the corresponding direct numerical simulation(DNS) as applied to a problem of compressible boundary layer with Mach number 6.Yongming ZHANG Caihong SU 2015Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2015,36,7:1
Glutamate drives local Ca^(2+)release'in cardiac pacemaker cells显示文摘The sinoatrial node(SAN)is the origin of the electrical signals for rhythmic heartbeats in mammals. The spontaneous fring of SAN pacemaker cells(SANPCS)triggers cardiac contraction.'Local Ca^(2+)release'(LCR),a unique cellular activity, acts as the'engine'of the spontaneous fring of SANPCs.However, the mechanism of LCR initiation remains unclear. Here,we report that endogenous glutamate drives LCRs in SANPCs.Using a glutamate sensor,we unraveled a tight correlation between glutamate accumulation and LCR occurrence, indicating a potential relationship between glutamate and LCRs.Intracellular application of glutamate significantly enhanced the LCRs in both intact and permeabilized SANPCs.Mechanitically,we revealed that mitochondrial excitatory amino acid transporter 1(EAAT 1)-dependent mitochondrial glutamate import promoted ROS generation, which in turn led to the oxidation of Ca^(2+)-handling proteins, ultimately resulting in enhanced LCRs.Importantly,EAAT1 depletion reduced both the spontaneous fring rates of isolated SANPCs and the heart rate in vitro and in vivo, suggesting the central role of EAAT1 as a glutamate transporter in the regulation of cardiac autonomic rhythm. In conclusion, our results indicate that glutamate serves as an LCR igniter in SANPCs,adding a potentially important element to the coupled clock theory that explains the origin of spontaneous firing. These findings shed new light on the future prevention and treatment of cardiac pacemaker cell-related arrhythmias.Duanyang Xie Ke Xiong Xuling Su Guanghua Wang Qicheng Zou Luxin Wang Caihong Zhang Yuting Cao Beihua Shao Yixin Zhang Peidong Zhang Dandan Liang Yi Liu Yi-Han Chen 2022Cell Research2022,32,9:0

The sex determination gene doublesex is required during adulthood to maintain sexual orientation显示文摘Gender differences in behavior are prevalent among animal kingdoms. The causal links among a particular gene, neural circuitry, and gendered behaviors have long been of particular interest in neuroscience. The fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, is a wonderful animal model with fruitful genetic tools to tackle these questions(Guo et al., 2019). It has been found that two sex determination genes, fruitless(fru) and doublesex(dsx), jointly govern the sex differences in the nervous system that regulate the male-specific courtship behavior(Burtis and Baker, 1989;Ito et al., 1996;Ryner et al.Qionglin Peng Jiangtao Chen Xiangbin Su Rong Wang Caihong Han Yufeng Pan 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,2:0
