| 1 | Immune reaction and colorectal cancer:Friends or foes?显示文摘The potential clinical impact of enhancing antitumor immunity is increasingly recognized in oncology therapeutics for solid tumors.Colorectal cancer is one of the most studied neoplasms for the tumor-host immunity relationship.Although immune cell populations involved in such a relationship and their prognostic role in colorectal cancer development have clearly been identified,still no approved therapies based on host immunity intensification have so far been introduced in clinical practice.Moreover,a recognized risk in enhancing immune reaction for colitis-associated colorectal cancer development has limited the emphasis of this approach.The aim of the present review is to discuss immune components involved in the host immune reaction against colorectal cancer and analyze the fine balance between pro-tumoral and anti-tumoral effect of immunity in this model of disease. | Vincenzo Formica Vittore Cereda Antonella Nardecchia Manfredi Tesauro Mario Roselli | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，35： | 3 |
| 2 | Adjuvant treatment in biliary tract cancer: To treat or not to treat?显示文摘Biliary tract cancer is a rare malignant tumor. There is limited knowledge about biology and natural history of this disease and considerable uncertainty remains regarding its optimal diagnostic and therapeutic man- agement. The role of adjuvant therapy is object of debate and controversy. Although resection is identified as the most effective and the only potentially curative treatment, there is no consensus on the impact of ad- juvant chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy on the high incidence of disease recurrence and on survival. This is mainly due to the rarity of this disease and the consequent difficulty in performing randomized trials. The only two prospectively controlled trials concluded that adjuvant chemotherapy did not improve survival. Most of the retrospective trials, which had limited sample size and included heterogeneous patients population and non-standardized therapies, suggested a marginal benefit of chemoradiotherapy in reducing locoregional recurrence and an uncertain impact on survival. Welldesigned multi-institutional randomized trials are necessary to clarify the role of adjuvant therapy.
