1Variations between rice cultivars in iron and manganese plaque on roots and the relation with plant cadmium uptake显示文摘To understand certain mechanisms causing variations between rice cultivars with regard to cadmium uptake and tolerance,pot soil experiments were conducted with two rice cultivars of different genotypes under different soil Cd levels.The relationships between plant Cd uptake and iron/manganese(Fe/Mn) plaque formation on roots were investigated.The results showed that rice cultivars di?ered markedly in Cd uptake and tolerance.Under soil Cd treatments,Cd concentrations and accumulations in the cultivar Shanyou 63(the genotype indica) were significantly higher than those in the cultivar Wuyunjing 7(the genotype japonica)(P < 0.01,or P < 0.05),and Shanyou 63 was more sensitive to Cd toxicity than Wuyunjing 7.The differences between the rice cultivars were the largest at relatively low soil Cd level(i.e.,10 mg/kg).Fe concentrations in dithionite-citrate-bicarbonate root extracts of Shanyou 63 were generally lower than that of Wuyunjing 7,and the difference was the most significant under the treatment of 10 mg Cd/kg soil.The results indicated that the formation of iron plaque on rice roots could act as a barrier to soil Cd toxicity,and may be a 'buffer' or a 'reservoir' which could reduce Cd uptake into rice roots.And the plaque may contribute,to some extent,to the genotypic differences of rice cultivars in Cd uptake and tolerance.Jianguo Liu Changxun Cao Minghung Wong Zhijun Zhang Yuhong Chai 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,7:43
2Rice allelopathy and its properties of molecular ecology显示文摘Crop allelopathy is a promising and environmentally friendly method in weed control;however,the inducible genetic trait for allelopathy in the suppression of weeds needs to be overcome for practical use.Further study needs to be directed to this end to elucidate the molecular genetics and its physiologic mechanism.In this paper,the authors review recent advances in the investigation of rice allelopathy and its molecular regulatory mechanism,especially in responses to stressful conditions including biotic and abiotic factors in China.Previous studies show that rice allelopathy could be enhanced when the rice accession was exposed to stressful conditions,and further analysis by the transcriptomics and proteomics approaches conducted in our laboratory indicated that the increase in allelopathic potential of rice,when exposed to the stresses,was attributed to increased expression level of genes involved in phenolic synthetic metabolism.The increasing phenolic compounds have been confirmed as the main allelochemicals and they jointly act to suppress the target,especially in responses to stressful condition,but it seems to be the primary effect in phenolic allelopathy.We still wonder how the exudates from rice root,which were released into rhizosphere soil,are transformed by soil microorganism to produce the higher secondary effect of phenolic allelopathy in the suppression of weeds.Therefore,the authors suggest that rhizosphere biologic properties of allelopathy in rice and its mechanism are being the key research areas in the world now,and systems biology and its approaches,such as metagenomics and metaproteomics,would be helpful to reveal the process and its molecular ecological mechanism regarding rhizospheric biology of rice allelopathy.Wenxiong LIN Changxun FANG Ting CHEN Ruiyu LIN Jun XIONG Haibin WANG 2010Frontiers in Biology2010,5,3:5
3Mechanism and kinetics of aluminum dissolution during copper sorption by acidity paddy soil in South China显示文摘Soil aggregates were prepared from a bulk soil collected from paddy soil in the Taihu Lake region and aluminum(Al) dissolution, solution p H changes during copper(Cu2+) sorption were investigated with static sorption and magnetic stirring. Kinetics of Cu2+sorption and Al dissolution were also studied by magnetic stirring method. No Al dissolution was observed until Cu2+sorption was greater than a certain value, which was 632, 450, 601 and674 mg/kg for sand, clay, silt, and coarse silt fractions, respectively. Aluminum dissolution increased with increasing Cu2+sorption and decreasing solution p H. An amount of dissolved Al showed a significant positive correlation with non-specific sorption of Cu2+(R2> 0.97), and it was still good under different p H values(R2> 0.95). Copper sorption significantly decreased solution p H. The magnitude of solution p H decline increased as Cu2+sorption and Al dissolution increased. The sand and clay fraction had a less Al dissolution and p H drop due to the higher ferric oxide, Al oxide and organic matter contents. After sorption reaction for half an hour, the Cu2+sorption progress reached more than 90% while the Al dissolution progress was only 40%, and lagged behind the Cu2+sorption. 16Simultaneous removal of Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ)by ferrihydrite-biochar composite:Enhanced effects of As(Ⅴ)on Cd(Ⅱ)adsorption显示文摘The coexistence of cadmium(Cd(Ⅱ))and arsenate(As(Ⅴ))pollution has long been an environmental problem.Biochar,a porous carbonaceous material with tunable functionality,has been used for the remediation of contaminated soils.However,it is still challenging for the dynamic quantification and mechanistic understanding of the simultaneous sequestration of multi-metals in biochar-engineered environment,especially in the presence of anions.In this study,ferrihydrite was coprecipitated with biochar to investigate how ferrihydritebiochar composite affects the fate of heavy metals,especially in the coexistence of Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ).In the solution system containing both Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ),the maximum adsorption capacities of ferrihydrite-biochar composite for Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ)reached 82.03μmol/g and 531.53μmol/g,respectively,much higher than those of the pure biochar(26.90μmol/g for Cd(Ⅱ),and 40.24μmol/g for As(Ⅴ))and ferrihydrite(42.26μmol/g for Cd(Ⅱ),and 248.25μmol/g for As(Ⅴ)).Cd(Ⅱ)adsorption increased in the presence of As(Ⅴ),possibly due to the changes in composite surface charge in the presence of As(Ⅴ),and the increased dispersion of ferrihydrite by biochar.Further microscopic and mechanistic results showed that Cd(Ⅱ)complexed with both biochar and ferrihydrite,while As(Ⅴ)was mainly complexed by ferrihydrite in the Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ)coexistence system.Ferrihydrite posed vital importance for the co-adsorption of Cd(Ⅱ)and As(Ⅴ).The different distribution patterns revealed by this study help to a deeper understanding of the behaviors of cations and anions in the natural environment.Wenjun Zeng Yang Lu Jingyan Zhou Jie Zhang Yuanxiao Duan Changxun Dong Wencheng Wu 2024Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,5:0
17Preliminary techno-economic analysis of three typical decentralized composting technologies treating rural kitchen waste:a case study in China显示文摘This study was designed to evaluate whether the decentralized rural kitchen waste(KW)composting technologies used in China can be widely applied.To this end,we completed a techno-economic analysis of three typical types of KW compositing,namely solar-assisted(SAC),bio-enhanced(BEC),and heat-dewatering composting(HDC).These evaluations revealed that all three technologies produce composting products that meet China’s organic fertilizer standard and that both SAC and BEC are economically self-sustaining and generate net profits(18824.94 and 17791.52 US$/a)and positive net present values(32133.11 and 25035.93 US$).Subsequent sensitivity analysis demonstrated that the KW-handling subsidy plays a critical role in making decentralized composting economically attractive.Based on these analyses,we believe that reducing the coverage area of SAC,reducing the operating cost of BEC and HDC,upgrading composting products,and strengthening secondary pollution control would aid in supporting the technological improvement of these processes.Moreover,providing appropriate subsidies and promulgating specific standards and policies for KW fertilizer are key strategies for decentralized rural KW composting management.Haoshu Wang Yong Qin Liqing Xin Changxun Zhao Zhuang Ma Jian Hu Weixiang Wu 2023Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2023,17,4:0
18Evaluation of seed vigor in soybean germplasms from different eco-regions显示文摘Seed vigor plays an essential role in soybean production.Soybean seed is sensitive to environment and easy to get seed deterioration.Generally soybean seed vigor can be maintained for less than one year and have to be multiplied every year.Varieties with good seed vigor are essential for maintaining planting population and stable yield.In this research,419 germplasms from three eco-regions,South China,Huanghuai region and Northeast China,were evaluated for seed vigor by assessing germination ratio,germination potential and germination index.About 34.8%of tested germplasm had germination ratio equal or more than 85%,suggested by the national soybean seed quality standard of China.Only 9 from 82 tested cultivars met the seed standard.Seed germination ratio distribution had obvious regional feature.Landraces performed better seed vigor than cultivars.Germplasms from South China had stronger seed vigor compared to those from Huanghuai and Northeast regions.Seed vigor has no significant relationship with maturity and 100-seed weight.Totally 21 germplasms with strong seed vigor,favor maturation and seed size were identified and can be used in future breeding program.Qingnan Hao Yanyan Yang Changxun Guo Xuefei Liu Haifeng Chen Zhonglu Yang Chanjuan Zhang Limiao Chen Songli Yuan Shuilian Chen Dong Cao Wei Guo Dezhen Qiu Xiaojuan Zhang Zhihui Shan Xin’an Zhou 2020Oil Crop Science2020,5,1:0
19Adsorption and desorption of Cu2+ on paddy soil aggregates pretreated with different levels of phosphate显示文摘Interactions between anions and cations are important for understanding the behaviors of chemical pollutants and their potential risks in the environment.Here we prepared soil aggregates of a yellow paddy soil from the Taihu Lake region,and investigated the effects of phosphate(P) pretreatment on adsorption-desorption of Cu^(2+) of soil aggregates,free iron oxyhydrates-removed soil aggregates,goethite,and kaolinite with batch adsorption method.The results showed that Cu^(2+) adsorption was reduced on the aggregates pretreated with low concentrations of P,and promoted with high concentrations of P,showing a V-shaped change.Compared with the untreated aggregates,the adsorption capacity of Cu^(2+) was reduced when P application rates were lower than 260,220,130 and110 mg/kg for coarse,clay,silt and fine sand fractions,respectively.On the contrary,the adsorption capacity of Cu^(2+) was higher on P-pretreated soil aggregates than on the control ones when P application rates were greater than those values.However,the desorption of Cu^(2+) was enhanced at low levels of P,but suppressed at high levels of P,displaying an inverted V-shaped change over P adsorption.The Cu^(2+) adsorption by the aggregate particles with and without P pretreatments was well described by the Freundlich equation.Similar results were obtained on P-pretreated goethite.However,such P effects on Cu^(2+)adsorption-desorption were not observed on kaolinite and free iron oxyhydrates-removed soil aggregates.The present results indicate that goethite is one of the main soil substances responsible for the P-induced promotion and inhibition of Cu^(2+) adsorption.Jun Dai Wenqin Wang Wenchen Wu Jianbo Gao Changxun Dong 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,5:0
