1Water quality criteria research and progress显示文摘Water quality criteria (WQC) are threshold limits for pollutants or other hazard factors in the ambient water environment, which are based on scientific experiments and extrapolations. Until now, there is limited information available regarding the study of water quality criteria in China. It is imperative to launch national-level systematic WQC studies that focus on the regional characteristics of China and provide scientific support for the enactment or revision of water quality standards and environmental management. This article reviews the concept of WQC and discusses the methodology and global progress of WQC research. The article also summarizes the key scientific issues in WQC research, including species sensitivity distribution, toxicological endpoint selection, and models selection. Furthermore, we can adopt the derivation method used in the USA and divide WQC into acute and chronic criteria. 2Derivation of water quality criteria for representative water-body pollutants in China显示文摘In this study, toxicological data for zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr (VI)), benzene, and nitrobenzene were collected from various databases and publications, screened and then constructed into species sensitivity distribution (SSD) curves. Then water quality criteria (WQC) were derived for protection of the freshwater aquatic life in China against five representative pollutants. The values derived in this study were compared with those issued by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Chinese national environmental standard for surface water to identify factors underlying the differences. The results showed that the SSD curves for the five pollutants differed significantly, with the examined aquatic species being generally more sensitive to Zn, Cd, and Cr (VI) than benzene and nitrobenzene. The acute WQC were: 48.43 μg L 1 for Zn, 0.4218 μg L 1 for Cd, 45.79 μg L 1 for Cr (VI), 2651 μg L 1 for benzene, and 1426 μg L 1 for nitrobenzene. The chronic WQC were: 20.01 μg L 1 for Zn, 0.2428 μg L 1 for Cd, 14.22 μg L 1 for Cr (VI), 530.2 μg L 1 for benzene, and 286.2 μg L 1 for nitrobenzene. 3Distribution characteristics and ecological risk assessment of PAHs in surface waters of China显示文摘The concentrations of PAHs in the surface waters from seven river basins in China were summarized from literature published from 2000-2010. Subsequently, the risks from individual PAHs and ∑PAHs in the surface waters of China were quantified by comparing the overlap between the probability distributions of exposure concentrations with the probability distributions of toxicity data. The results show that the concentrations of 15 PAHs in the surface waters ranged from 3.09 to 38139.00 ng L-1, with a geometric mean of 474.93 ng L-1. The significantly higher concentrations of the 15 PAHs occurred in the surface waters from northern China when compared with those from southern China. The concentrations of the 15 PAHs in Chinese surface waters were higher than those in other waters worldwide. The MOS10 (margin of safety) values were calculated at 90th percentile values of exposure concentrations and 10th percentile values of toxicity data, with 5.75, 0.17, 2.33, 0.30, 0.57, 1.74, 1.05, and 0.11 for Ace, Ant, Flu, BaP, Flua, Nap, Phe, and Pyr, respectively. The probabilities of the individual PAH concentrations exceeding the 10th percentile value of the toxicity data were 6.06%, 2.07%, 9.51%, and 2.07% for Nap, Ace, Phe, and Flu, respectively, suggesting minimal risk to aquatic organisms; however, the probabilities of BaP, Ant, Flua, and Pyr exceeding this value were 19.49%, 25.46%, 15.15%, and 30.50%, respectively, indicating potential risks. Among the individual PAHs, the ecological risk from Pyr was the highest, followed by, in descending order of risk, Ant, Bap, Flua, Phe, Nap, Flu, and Ace. Additionally, the combined ecological risk of ∑PAH8 in Chinese surface waters was significantly higher than any that of individual PAHs alone. The MOS10 values in the river basins were < 1, except for the Haihe River Basin, suggesting a potential combined risk from ∑PAH8 in the other six river basins. 4Experimental study of the effect of blade tip clearance and blade angle error on the performance of mixed-flow pump显示文摘The hydraulic performance test of the mixed-flow pump has been carried out through selecting different blade tip clearances and various blade angle errors.The ratio of the mixed-flow pump efficiency reduction and the blade tip clearance variation(η/δ) varies with the flow rate coefficient revealing a parabolic trend.An empirical equation has been developed for the mixed-flow pump model by parabolic fitting.For the same blade tip clearance variation δ,the mixed-flow pump efficiency reduction η increases rapidly as the flow rate rises.For any given flow rate,the efficiency,the head and the shaft power of the mixed-flow pump all decrease with the increase of the blade tip clearance.Among them,the efficiency reduction η varies approximately linearly with the blade tip clearance variation δ.When the angle of an individual blade of the mixed-flow pump has a deviation,the performance curves will move and change.These curves have consistent change directions with the performance curves under the condition of all the blades rotated at the same time,but have smaller offset and lower range of variation.When an individual blade angle error changes to ±2°,the optimal efficiency of the mixed-flow pump will have no significant difference.When the individual blade angle error increases to ±4°,the optimal efficiency will decrease by 1%.BING Hao CAO ShuLiang HE ChengLian LU Li 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,2:13
5A general alternate loading technique and its applications in the inverse designs of centrifugal and mixed-flow pump impellers显示文摘For the inverse designs of centrifugal and mixed-flow pump impellers,clarifying the generation process of secondary flows and putting forward corresponding suppression measures is an important approach to improve the impeller performance.In this paper,to provide a better qualitative insight into the generation mechanism of secondary flows in the impeller,a simple kinematic equation is derived based on the ideal assumptions,which indicates that the potential rothalpy gradient(PRG)is the most important dynamic source that actively induces secondary vortical flows.Induced by the natural adverse PRG on the S1 and S2 stream surfaces,two typical secondary flows,H-S and P-S secondary flows,are clearly presented.To specially suppress these typical secondary flows,a general alternate loading technique(GALT)is proposed,aiming to adjust the real blade loadingδp to control the PRG features.At the blade fore part,theδp on the hub streamline should be slowly increased to avoid breakneck growth of the potential rothalpy to reduce adverse streamwise PRG on the S2 streamsurface.At the blade middle part,theδp should be moderately decreased to reduce adverse streamwise PRG on the S1 streamsurface.At the blade aft part,the difference in theδp between the shroud and hub streamlines should be decreased faster to control the exit uniformity.By applying the GALT to the impeller designs of three typical pump types in hydraulic engineering,the organizational effect of the PRG on fundamental flow structures is proven.The GALT can effectively control the PRG distributions and suppress the secondary flows,thereby widening the pump’s high-efficiency zone,improving flow uniformity and suppressing pressure fluctuations.Compared with the current Z-G method and the ALT,the GALT can meet the requirements of'de-experience'better,thereby enabling the designers to obtain good products explicitly and quickly.WANG ChaoYue WANG FuJun AN DongSen YAO ZhiFeng XIAO RuoFu LU Li HE ChengLian ZOU ZhiChao 2021Science China(Technological Sciences)2021,64,4:7
6Differential gene expression analysis of ‘Chili’ (Pyrus bretschneideri) fruit pericarp with two types of bagging treatments显示文摘Preharvest bagging is a simple,grower-friendly and safe physical protection technique commonly applied to many fruits,and the application of different fruit bags can have various effects.To explore the molecular mechanisms underlying the fruit quality effects of different bagging treatments,digital gene expression(DGE)profiling of bagged and unbagged‘Chili’(Pyrus bretschneideri Rehd.)pear pericarp during development was performed.Relative to unbagged fruit,a total of 3022 and 769 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were detected in the polyethylene(PE)-bagged and non-woven fabric-bagged fruit,respectively.DEGs annotated as photosynthesis-antenna proteins and photosynthesis metabolism pathway were upregulated in non-woven fabric-bagged fruit but downregulated in the PE-bagged fruit.Non-woven fabric bagging inhibited lignin synthesis in‘Chili’pear pericarp by downregulating DEGs involved in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis;consequently,the fruit lenticels in non-woven fabric-bagged fruit were smaller than those in the other treatments.The results indicate that the non-woven fabric bagging method has a positive effect on the appearance of‘Chili’pear fruit but neither of the two bagging treatments is conducive to the accumulation of soluble sugar.Yuling Wang Xinfu Zhang Ran Wang Yingxin Bai Chenglian Liu Yongbing Yuan Yingjie Yang Shaolan Yang 2017Horticulture Research2017,4,1:6
7Debrominated and methoxylated polybrominated diphenyl ether metabolites in rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss) after exposure to decabromodiphenyl ether显示文摘Decabromodiphenyl ether(BDE209) is the primary component in a commonly used flame retardant.Previous studies had proved that BDE209 itself was not toxic,while its metabolites including debrominated diphenyl ethers(De-BDEs) and methoxylated brominated diphenyl ethers(MeO-BDEs) posed a potential threat to organisms.Many studies had indicated that BDE209 could metabolize quickly in mammals,but lacking in the basic data about the metabolism of BDE209 in fish.In the present study,two replicate treatment groups of rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss) were exposed to BDE209 via a single intraperitoneal injection approximately 100 and 500 ng/g,respectively.Muscle,liver and blood samples were collected to analyze the specific metabolites on day 1 and day 28 post injection.The highest concentration of BDE209 was detected in muscle tissues,from 796.1 ng/g wet weight(day 1) to 687.1 ng/g wet weight(day 28) in high dose group,suggesting that BDE209 could accumulate slightly in muscle tissues.However,BDE209 was not detected in the blood for all treatments.Most congeners of De-BDEs were found in muscle and liver tissues,with the highest concentration in the liver.The main De-BDEs were nona-,octa-,hepta-and penta-De-BDEs.A total of seven MeO-BDE metabolites were observed among different fish tissues.Blood had the highest contribution of the MeO-BDE metabolites.Each MeO-BDE congener increased over the 28 days.These results in contrast to other studies suggested possible species-specific differences in metabolic abilities.Chenglian Feng,Yiping Xu,Yue He,Qian Luo,Jinmiao Zha,Zijian Wang State Key Laboratory of Environmental Aquatic Chemistry,Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100085,China. 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,9:4

9Organophosphate esters cause thyroid dysfunction via multiple signaling pathways in zebrafish brain显示文摘Organophosphate esters(OPEs)are widespread in various environmental media,and can disrupt thyroid endocrine signaling pathways.Mechanisms by which OPEs disrupt thyroid hormone(TH)signal transduction are not fully understood.Here,we present in vivo-in vitro-in silico evidence establishing OPEs as environmental THs competitively entering the brain to inhibit growth of zebrafish via multiple signaling pathways.OPEs can bind to transthyretin(TTR)and thyroxine-binding globulin,thereby affecting the transport of TH in the blood,and to the brain by TTR through the blood-brain barrier.When GH3 cells were exposed to OPEs,cell proliferation was significantly inhibited given that OPEs are competitive inhibitors of TH.Cresyl diphenyl phosphate was shown to be an effective antagonist of TH.Chronic exposure to OPEs significantly inhibited the growth of zebrafish by interfering with thyroperoxidase and thyroglobulin to inhibit TH synthesis.Based on comparisons of modulations of gene expression with the Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes databases,signaling pathways related to thyroid endocrine functions,such as receptor-ligand binding and regulation of hormone levels,were identified as being affected by exposure to OPEs.Effects were also associated with the biosynthesis and metabolism of lipids,and neuroactive ligand-receptor interactions.These findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms by which OPEs disrupt thyroid pathways in zebrafish.Zhenfei Yan Chenglian Feng Xiaowei Jin Fangkun Wang Cong Liu Na Li Yu Qiao Yingchen Bai Fengchang Wu John P.Giesy 2022Environmental Science and Ecotechnology2022,,4:2

12Toxicity mechanisms and bioavailability of copper to fish based on an adverse outcome pathway analysis显示文摘Copper(Cu)exists in a variety of forms in different aquatic environments,and affects their bioavailability.In this study we provide a systematic review on toxicity of Cu which focuses on identifying evidence in the mechanisms of Cu toxicity,and apply an adverse outcome pathway(AOP)analysis to identify multiple potential mechanisms and their interactions of Cu toxicity to fish.This analysis process included the mechanisms of behavior toxicant,oxidative toxicant,ion regulation disruption toxicity,as well as endocrine disruption toxicity.It was found that at low levels of Cu exposure,swimming,avoid predators,locating prey and other sensory functions will be impaired,and the organism will suffer from metabolic alkalosis and respiratory acidosis following the inhibition of the carbonic anhydrase active.The main pathway of acute toxicity of Cu to fish is the inhibition of the Na^(+)/K^(+)-ATPase enzyme,and lead to reduced intracellular sodium absorption,as well as Cu-induced increased cell permeability,in turn resulting in increased sodium ion loss,leading to cardiovascular collapse and respiratory insufficiency.The endocrine disruption toxicity of Cu to fish caused growth inhibition and reproductive reduction.In addition,there are several key pathways of Cu toxicity that are affected by hardness(e.g.,Ca^(2+))and intracellular DOC concentrations,including inhibiting Cu-induction,improving branchial gas exchange,altering membrane transport functions,decreasing Na+loss,and increasing Na+uptake.The results of the AOP analysis will provide a robust framework for future directed research on the mechanisms of Cu toxicity.Wei Liao Ziwei Zhu Chenglian Feng Zhenfei Yan Yajun Hong Daqing Liu Xiaowei Jin 2023Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,5:1

16Toxicokinetics and the related metabolites in rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss) after exposure to decabromodiphenyl ether显示文摘Decabromodiphenyl ether(BDE209) is poorly absorbed by mammals,and little information is available on the toxicokinetics of BDE209 and its metabolites in fish.In the present study,rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss) were administered to 100 ng/g and 500 ng/g body wet weight of BDE209 via a single intraperitoneal injection and parent BDE209 and its metabolites were sequentially monitored for 28 days.The results showed that toxicokinetic profiles of BDE209 could be described by the one-compartment model.In the higher dose group(500 ng/g wet weight),the calculated half-life(t1/2) and elimination rate(ke) were 17.7 d and 0.039/d in the liver,and 100.3 d and 0.007/d in the muscle,respectively.Three major methoxylated brominated diphenyl ethers(MeO-BDEs) were detected with 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromo-5-methoxydiphenyl ether(5-MeO-BDE47) being detected in all tissue samples.There was no significant temporal change of 5-MeO-BDE47 concentration in the muscle,whereas an exponential increase was observed in the liver.Therefore,the metabolism rate of BDE209 depended on the administered dose.BDE209 was hardly accumulated in the muscle of rainbow trout,while the liver was a primary metabolic organ.MeO-BDEs were formed via metabolism of BDE209,which probably played a significant role in fish toxicology as a potential indicator.FENG ChengLian,XU YiPing,ZHA JinMiao,LUO Qian,SHAN XiaoQuan & WANG ZiJian State Key Laboratory of Environmental Aquatic Chemistry Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100085,China 2010Science China Chemistry2010,53,11:1
17Bee wax coated water-soluble fraction of bee venom improved altered glucose homeostasis in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the anti-diabetic efficacy of orally administered bee wax coated water-soluble fraction of bee venom(BWCBVA)drug over orally administered bee wax(BW)and intraperitoneally administered whole bee venom(BV)in streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic rats.METHODS:Diabetes induced by intraperitoneal administration of 60 mg/kg STZ was treated with BWCBVA,BW,and BV for 21 d.The biochemical,protein and histological changes,and physical characteristics of BWCBVA were then analyzed.RESULTS:The BWCBVA group shows significantly decreased blood glucose level as compared to the BW and intraperitoneally administered whole BV treated group.Moreover,BWCBVA significantly normalizes the serum biochemical parameters and increases the body weight.Also,administration of BWCBVA significantly reverses the altered liver expression of phosphatidylinositide 3-kinases-p85 and liver glucokinase.Histological analysis of the pancreas an increase in the islet cell numbers and decrease inβ-cell damage.Co-administering BWCBVA 0.25 mg/kg with nifedipine(6.8 mg/kg)and nicorandil(13.8 mg/kg)to the diabetic rats results in insulin secretion through enhanced calcium ion influx.High performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography was performed to identify the pharmacologically important compounds present in BWCBVA.CONCLUSION:Our results indicate that BWCBVA,an orally administered colon specific drug delivery system,can be effective in treating diabetes mellitus.Rangachari Balamurugan Jeong Hwa Kim Mi-na Jo Chenglian Xue Jin kyu Park Jae Kwon Lee 2019Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2019,39,6:1
