| 1 | Evaluation of a simulation-based workshop on clinical performance for emergency physicians and nurses显示文摘BACKGROUND: Simulation-based medical education has been growing rapidly and becomes one of the most popular teaching methods for improving patient safety and patient care. The Simulation Subcommittee of the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine organized an educational program emphasizing the team training, clinical decision-making and communication skills. This study aimed to evaluate the attitude of the participants toward a new training program and the change in the knowledge on clinical performance in emergency physicians and nurses after attending the educational program.METHODS: A course evaluation form was filled in by the participants at the end of the workshop. An assessment of 20 multiple-choice questions with 5 options was administered to the participants before and after the 2-day simulation-based training workshop.RESULTS: A total of 72 doctors and nurses working in the Accident and Emergency Department were enrolled. The average pretest and posttest scores were 12 and 14.3 respectively. The percentage improvement in the mean score of the pretest and posttest was 11.5%. The Chi-square test showed signifi cant improvement in the pretest and posttest score grading(P=0.00). Paired t-test revealed signifi cant difference between the mean scores of the pretest and posttest(P=0.00).CONCLUSIONS: Participants had positive attitude toward this new training program. | 2 | Enhanced thermoelectric properties of SnSe thin films grown by pulsed laser glancing-angle deposition显示文摘SnSe single crystals have been demonstrated to possess excellent thermoelectric properties.In this work,we demonstrate a grain size control method in growing nanocrystalline SnSe thin films through a glancing angle pulsed-laser deposition approach.Structural characterization reveals that the SnSe film deposited at a normal angle has a preferred orientation along a axis,while by contrast,the SnSe film deposited at an 80glancing angle develops a nanopillar structure with the growth direction towards the incident atomic flux.The glancing angle deposition greatly reduces the grain size of the thin film due to a shadowing effect to the adatoms,resulting in significantly increased power factor for more than 100%.The maximum Seebeck coefficient and power factor are 498.5 mV=K and 18.5 mWcm^(-1)K^(-2),respectively.The enhancement of thermoelectric property can be attributed to the potential barrier scattering at grain boundaries owing to the reduced grain size and increased grain boundaries in the film.Given this enhanced power factor,and considering the fact that the nanopillar structure should have much lower thermal conductivity than a plain film,the zT value of such made SnSe film could be significantly larger than the corresponding single crystal film,making it a good candidate for thin film-based thermoelectric device. | Chun Hung Suen Dongliang Shi Y.Su Zhi Zhang Cheuk Ho Chan Xiaodan Tang Y.Li Kwok Ho Lam Xinxin Chen B.L.Huang X.Y.Zhou Ji-Yan Dai | 2017 | Journal of Materiomics2017，3，4： | 1 |

| 4 | Rare case of intussusception in an adult with acute myeloid leukemia显示文摘Intussusception is rarely reported in adult patients with acute leukemia. We report a case of intussusception in a 29-year-old woman with acute myeloid leukemia(AML). She developed right lower quadrant pain, fever, and vomiting on day 16 of induction chemotherapy.Physical examination showed tenderness and guarding at the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. Abdominal computed tomography(CT) showed distension of the cecum and ascending colon, which were filled with loops of small bowel, and herniation of the ileocecal valve into the cecum. We proceeded to laparotomy and revealed ileocecal intussusception with the ileocecal valve as the leading point. The terminal ileum was thickened and invaginated into the cecum, which showed gangrenous changes. Right hemicolectomy was performed and microscopic examination of the colonic tissue showed infiltration of leukemic cells. The patient recovered after the operation and was subsequently able to continue treatment for AML. This case demonstrates that the diagnosis of intussusception is difficult because the presenting symptoms can be non-specific, but abdominal CT can be informative for preoperative diagnosis. Resection of the involved bowel is recommended when malignancy is suspected or confirmed. Intussusception should be considered in any leukemia patients presenting with acute abdomen.
