| 4 | Progress of Chinese research in physical oceanography of the Southern Ocean显示文摘Oceanographic surveying has been one of the key missions of the Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition since 1984. Using the field data obtained in these surveys and the results from remote sensing and numerical models, Chinese physical oceanographers have investigated the water masses, fronts and circulation patterns in the Southern Ocean. The results of nearly 30 years of research are summarized in this paper. Most oceanographic observations by Chinese researchers have been conducted in Prydz Bay and the adjacent seas. CTD (Conductivity Temperature and Depth) data, collected during the past 20 years, have been applied to study several features of the water masses in this region: The spatial variation of warm summer surface water, the northward extension of shelf water, the flow of ice shelf water from the cavity beneath the Amery Ice Shelf, the upwelling of the Circumpolar Deep Water, and the formation of the Antarctic Bottom Water. The circulation and its dynamic factors have been analyzed with dynamic heights calculated from CTD data as well as by numerical models. The structure and strength of the fronts in the southeast Indian Ocean and the Drake Passage were investigated with underway XBT/XCTD (Expendable Bathythermograph/Expendable CTD) and ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) data. Their interannual variations have been determined and the factors of influence, especially the atmospheric forcing and mesoscale oceanic processes, were studied using remote sensing data. The dynamic mechanism of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) was analyzed by theoretical models. The transport and pattern of the ACC have been well reproduced by coupled sea ice-ocean models. Additional details of ACC variability were identified based on satellite altimeter data. The response of the ACC to climate change was studied using reanalysis data. | 5 | Effect of Jianpiyiqi granule on ocular myasthenia gravis in children prepared with a formula from Traditional Chinese Medicine显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Jianpiyiqi granule, prepared according to a Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) formula, on the ocular type of myasthenia gravis(MG) caused by a defect in synaptic transmission at the neuromuscular junction.METHODS: A total of 155 children with ocular MG were recruited from January 2008 to January 2015.All individuals received ineffective glucocorticoid treatment prior to admission, and were given Jianpiyiqi granules(two doses per day) for 12 months.Plasma levels of acetylcholine receptor autoantibodies(ACh R-Ab), cytokines, immune parameters and clinical score were analyzed.RESULTS: After intervention with Jianpiyiqi granule for 12 months, the levels of cytokines [including interleukin(IL)-6, IL-12, IL-17], immune parameters[including immunoglobulin G(Ig G), Ig M, free triiodothyronine, free thyroxine] and ACh R-Ab were sig-nificantly decreased(P = 0.042, P = 0.049, P = 0.011,P = 0.02, P = 0.04, P = 0.03, P = 0.01; F = 21.60, P =0.000). In contrast, IL-4 levels were significantly increased(P = 0.049). The absolute clinical score after treatment declined significantly compared with before treatment(F = 33.24, P = 0.000). | 6 | Marine hydrographic spatial-variability and its cause at the northern margin of the Amery Ice Shelf显示文摘Conductivity,temperature and depth(CTD) data collected along a zonal hydrographic section from the northern margin of the Amery Ice Shelf on 25-27 February 2008 by the 24th Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE) cruise in the 2007/2008 austral summer are analyzed to study thermohaline structures.Analysis reveals warm subsurface water in a limited area around the east end of the northern margin,where the temperature,salinity and density have east-west gradients in the surface layer of the hydrographic section.The localization of the warm subsurface water and the causes of the CTD gradients in the surface layer are discussed.In addition,the results from these CTD data analyses are compared with those from the 22nd CHINARE cruise in the 2005/2006 austral summer.This comparison revealed that the thermoclines and haloclines had deepened and their strengths weakened in the 2007/2008 austral summer.The difference between the two data sets and the cause for it can be reasonably explained and attributed to the change in ocean-ice-atmosphere interactions at the northern margin of the Amery Ice Shelf. | GE RenFeng DONG ZhaoQian CHEN HongXia LIU Na SHI JiuXing PU ShuZhen | 2011 | Advances in Polar Science2011,22,2: | 3 |
| 7 | Association of long non-coding RNA HOTAIR and MALAT1 variants with cervical cancer risk in Han Chinese women显示文摘Long noncoding RNA(lncRNA) HOTAIR and MALAT1 are implicated in the development of multiple cancers. Genetic variants within HOTAIR and MALAT1 may affect the gene expression, thereby modifying genetic susceptibility to cervical cancer. A case-control study was designed, including 1 486 cervical cancer patients and 1 536 healthy controls. Based on RegulomeDB database, 11 SNPs were selected and genotyped by using Sequenom’s Mass ARRAY. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used to calculate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(CI). We found that the A allele of rs35643724 in HOTAIR was associated with increased risk of cervical cancer, while the C allele of rs1787666 in MALAT1 was associated with decreased risk. Compared to individuals with 0–1 unfavorable allele, those with 3–4 unfavorable alleles showed18% increased odds of having cervical cancer. | 8 | A mathematical modeling study of the HIV epidemics at two rural townships in the Liangshan Prefecture of the Sichuan Province of China显示文摘Background:As a response to a severe HIV epidemic in the Liangshan Prefecture,one of the worst in China,population based HIV interventions,including two population-wide HIV screening,have been carried out since 2005 at two townships in a remote mountainous region of Liangshan.The objective of our mathematical modeling study is to assess the temporal dynamics of the HIV epidemic in the two townships based on the data collected in the study area during the period 2005e2010.Methods:A mathematical model was set up to describe the population dynamics of HIV transmission in study area.The model was calibrated by fitting it to the HIV testing and treatment data from 2005 to 2008.Validation of the model was done by comparing its predicted value of HIV prevalence in 2010 to the prevalence data obtained in the 2010 population wide HIV testing.The validated model was used to produce estimation of HIV incidence,prevalence and death.Results:Our model estimations show that population-based HIV interventions have significantly slowed down the rise of the HIV epidemic in the two townships.Over the five-year period from 2005 to 2010,the year-over-year rate of increase in HIV incidence,prevalence,and death has declined by 91.5%,28.7%,and 52.3%,respectively.Conclusion:Mathematical models,when integrated with epidemiological and surveillance data,can be an effective tool for predicting the temporal dynamics of HIV and assessing the impacts of HIV interventions. | Zhimin Su Caiting Dong Ping Li Hongxia Deng Yuhan Gong Shiyong Zhong Min Wu Yuhua Ruan Guangming Qin Wen Yang Yiming Shao Michael Li | 2016 | Infectious Disease Modelling2016,1,1: | 2 |

In this study,the preparation and the application of different alumina based porous ceramics were briefly introduced. Alumina based porous ceramics were prepared combined foaming method with gelcasting,sol- gel process or cement curing process. The influences of different preparation methods on the sintering shrinkage, porosity, phase composition, microstructure, compressive strength and thermal conductivity were discussed. Alumina based porous ceramics with relatively high strength and low thermal conductivity could be obtained through the above mentioned methods. These genes coded for proteins containing 176–1 125 amino acids with isoelectric points ranging from 4.68 to 9.58.The predicted Md PG genes were distributed on all chromosomes except the 14 th. We then systematically analyzed conserved Md PG protein motifs and the structures of Md PG genes. We identified Md PG proteins containing four conserved motifs that are widely found in different PG proteins.Additionally, we found that Md PG75 was the largest gene, encompassing 18 exons. Finally, we systematically analyzed the functional connection network of Md PG proteins and predicted the functions of related Md PG genes before undertaking a preliminary validation. | 14 | Effects of acupoint versus non-acupoint electroacupuncture on cerebral cortical neuronal Bcl-2, Bax and caspase-3 expression in a rat model of focal cerebral ischemia显示文摘BACKGROUND: Several studies have demonstrated that electroacupuncture by acupoint selection can inhibit cerebral cortical neuronal apoptosis following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion. OBJECTIVE: To validate the effects of electroacupuncture by acupoint selection on the expression level of cortical neuronal anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 protein and the apoptotic executive protein, caspase-3, in rat models of focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: This randomized grouping, neural cell and molecular biology animal experiment was performed at the Laboratory of Pharmacology of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Laboratory Animal Center of Henan Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine between November 2006 and May 2007. MATERIALS: Atotal of 40 healthy male adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly and evenly divided into four groups: sham-operated, model, electroacupuncture and non-acupoint control. G6895 electro-acupuncture instruments were purchased from Shanghai Huayi Instrument Factory, China. Caspase-3, Bcl-2 and Bax kits were provided by Wuhan Boster Bioengineering Co., Ltd., China. METHODS: Middle cerebral artery occlusion was induced in the model, electroacupuncture and non-acupoint groups. In the electroacupuncture group, the acupoints Jianyu (LI15), Waiguan (SJ5), Biguan (ST31), and Zusanli (ST36) were given electroacupuncture. In the non-acupoint control group, at each time point (immediately after ischemia and after reperfusion, or 2 hours after reperfusion), electroacupuncture was performed at the midpoints of Tianquan (PC2)-Quze (PC 3) line, Quze (PC 3)-Ximen (PC4) line, Zuwuli (LR10)-Yinbao (LR9) line, and Xiguan (LR7)-Zhongdu (LR6) line. Electroacupuncture parameters were set with a continuous wave with a frequency of 10 Hz, wave width 0.6 ms, voltage 1.5–3.0 V, and a duration of 10 minutes. The sham-operated and model groups received only animal fixation without electroacupuncture procedure. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Five rats were selected from each group for specimen preparation. A brain tissue block comprising the frontal lobe and the occipital lobe was cut into five coronal sections of equal-thickness. Neuronal apoptosis was detected by the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase biotin-dUTP nick end labeling technique. Expression levels of caspase-3, Bcl-2 and Bax were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: Compared with the sham-operated group, the model group exhibited significantly decreased Bcl-2 expression (P < 0.01), and significantly increased Bax protein expression, number of apoptotic cells, and caspase-3 expression (P < 0.01). In the electroacupuncture group, Bcl-2 protein expression was significantly increased (P < 0.01) compared with the model group, and the Bax protein expression, number of apoptotic cells, and caspase-3 expression were significantly decreased (P < 0.01); the above-mentioned changes were not significant in the non-acupoint group compared with the model group ( P > 0.05). | 15 | Estimation of Postmortem Interval by Postmortem Myocardial Computed Tomography Value显示文摘Background:The estimation of postmortem interval(PMI)is one of the most important topics in forensic medicine research.We speculate that with an increased PMI,the computed tomography(CT)values of different tissues may show regular changes.Purpose:To use postmortem computed tomography(PMCT)to measure the myocardial CT value(unit:Hounsfield Unit,HU)of the heart to explore its pattern in postmortem change,and to discuss whether it can serve as a new parameter for PMI estimation.Methods:A total of 10 healthy adult New Zealand rabbits were selected and then put into a 20℃ incubator after being sacrificed.Within 0-156 h after death,CT scans were performed every 12 h to detect changes in the myocardial CT value of the heart over time.Regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between the myocardial CT value of the heart and PMI.At the same time,HE and Masson were used to stain the cardiac tissue sections detected by PMCT at Oh,48h and 156h,respectively.Results:During 0-156 h,the overall myocardial CT value showed a trend of first rising and then decreasing with the increase of PMI.The fitting regression equation was y=-2873.193+143.866x-1.728x2(x:myocardial CT value,unit:Hu;y:PMI,unit:h,R2=0.466,P<0.05).During 48-156 h,the overall myocardial CT value decreased gradually with the increase of PMI.The fitting regression equation was y=-93.038+18.700x-0.321x2(x:myocardial CT value,unit:Hu;y:PMI,unit:h,R2=0.963,P<0.001).The results of the morphological changes of the myocardial tissue structure after death showed that the myocardial cell structure was relatively complete at 0-48 hours after death;and the myocardial cell structure disappeared at 156 hours after death.Conclusions:Our results revealed evident postmortem changes in the myocardial CT value of the heart.Accordingly,measuring the myocardial CT value through PMCT shows promise for being used as a parameter for PMI estimation in forensic medicine and is worthy of further studies.The morphological changes of the myocardial tissue structure after death provide morphological basis for postmortem changes of tissue density,and further prove the reasons for the changes of CT value. | Zhiyuan An Hongxia He Qing Niu Haibiao Zhu Yucong Wang Ran Liu Weiliang Hou Peng Tang Tiantong Yang Dong Zhao | 2021 | Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine2021,7,3: | 1 |
