1Interactive Effects of Elevated CO_2 and Growth Temperature on the Tolerance of Photosynthesis to Acute Heat Stress in C_3 and C_4 Species显示文摘Determining effects of elevated CO2 on the tolerance of photosynthesis to acute heat-stress (heat wave) is necessary for predicting plant responses to global warming,as photosynthesis is thermolabile and acute heat-stress and atmospheric CO2 will increase in the future.Few studies have examined this,and past results are variable,which may be due to methodological variation.To address this,we grew two C3 and two C4 species at current or elevated CO2 and three different growth temperatures (GT).We assessed photosynthetic thermotolerance in both unacclimated (basal tolerance) and preheat-stressed (preHS=acclimated) plants.In C3 species,basal thermotolerance of net photosynthesis (Pn) was increased in high CO2,but in C4 species,Pn thermotlerance was decreased by high CO2 (except Zea mays at low GT); CO2 effects in preHS plants were mostly small or absent,though high CO2 was detrimental in one C3 and one C4 species at warmer GT.Though high CO2 generally decreased stomatal conductance,decreases in Pn during heat stress were mostly due to non-stomatal effects.Photosystem Ⅱ (PSⅡ efficiency was often decreased by high CO2 during heat stress,especially at high GT; CO2 effects on post-PSII electron transport were variable.Thus,high CO2 often affected photosynthetic theromotolerance,and the effects varied with photosynthetic pathway,growth temperature,and acclimation state.Most importantly,in heat-stressed plants at normal or warmer growth temperatures,high CO2 may often decrease,or not benefit as expected,tolerance of photosynthesis to acute heat stress.Therefore,interactive effects of elevated CO2 and warmer growth temperatures on acute heat tolerance may contribute to future changes in plant productivity,distribution,and diversity.E. 2Contrast induced neurotoxicity following coronary angiogram with Iohexol in an end stage renal disease patient显示文摘Neurotoxicity is an infrequent adverse reaction to iodinated contrast agents. Contrast induced neurotoxicity following coronary angiogram is very rare. Renal disease is a risk factor for contrast induced neurotoxicity. We report a case of contrast induced neurotoxicity following coronary angiogram and intervention using Iohexol(Omnipaque 350) in an end stage renal disease patient on peritoneal dialysis who had prior exposure to iodinated contrast without any adverse reaction. Hemodialysis had to be initiated for rapid removal of the contrast agent with subsequent complete resolution of neurological deficits. This case highlights the need for interventionalists to be aware of an important adverse reaction to iodinated contrast agents, especially in individuals with renal dysfunction, and that neurotoxicity is a possibility even with prior uneventful exposures. 6Controversies in the management of primary sclerosingcholangitis显示文摘Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC) remains a rare but significant disease, which affects mainly young males in association with inflammatory bowel disease. There have been few advances in the understanding of the pathogenesis of the condition and no therapeutics with proven mortality benefit aside from liver transplantation. There remain areas of controversy in the management of PSC which include the differentiation from other cholangiopathies, in particular immunoglobulin G4 related sclerosing cholangitis, the management of dominant biliary strictures, and the role of ursodeoxycholic acid. In addition, the timing of liver transplantation in PSC remains difficult to predict with standard liver severity scores. 10Interactive Effects of Elevated CO_2 and Ozone on Leaf Thermotolerance in Field-grown Glycine max显示文摘Humans are increasing atmospheric CO2,ground-level ozone (O3),and mean and acute high temperatures.Laboratory studies show that elevated CO2 can increase thermotolerance of photosynthesis in C3 plants.O3-related oxidative stress may offset benefits of elevated CO2 during heat-waves.We determined effects of elevated CO2 and O3 on leaf thermotolerance of field-grown Glycine max (soybean,C3).Photosynthetic electron transport (et) was measured in attached leaves heated in situ and detached leaves heated under ambient CO2 and O3.Heating decreased et,which O3 exacerbated.Elevated CO2 prevented O3-related decreases during heating,but only increased et under ambient O3 in the field.Heating decreased chlorophyll and carotenoids,especially under elevated CO2.Neither CO2 nor O3 affected heat-shock proteins.Heating increased catalase (except in high O3) and Cu/Zn-superoxide dismutase (SOD),but not Mn-SOD; CO2 and O3 decreased catalase but neither SOD.Soluble carbohydrates were unaffected by heating,but increased in elevated CO2.Thus,protection of photosynthesis during heat stress by elevated CO2 occurs in field-grown soybean under ambient O3,as in the lab,and high CO2 limits heat damage under elevated O3,but this protection is likely from decreased photorespiration and stomatal conductance rather than production of heat-stress adaptations.Sasmita Mishra Scott A. 19Outcome of repair of chronic tear of the pectoralis major using corkscrew suture anchors by box suture sliding technique显示文摘AIM To assess the functional and clinical results of repair of chronic tears of pectoralis major using corkscrew and sliding suture technique. METHODS In this retrospective study, we reviewed the results of pectoralis major repair in 11 chronic cases(> 6 wk) done between September 2011 and December 2014 at our institute. In all cases repair was done by same surgeon using corkscrew suture anchors and box suture sliding technique. At 6 mo, after surgery magnetic resonance imaging was done to see the integrity of the repair. Functional evaluation was done using Penn and ASES scores. Pre and postoperative Isokinetic strength was measured.RESULTS Average follow-up was 48.27 ± 21.0 mo. The Wilcoxon signed rank test was used to evaluate the outcome scores. The average ASES score increased from an average of 54.63 ± 13.0 preoperatively to 95.09 ± 2.60 after surgery at their last follow-up. The average Penn score also increased from 5.72 ± 0.78, 2.81 ± 1.32 and 45.81 ± 1.72 to 9.36 ± 0.80, 8.27 ± 0.90 and 59 ± 1.34 for pain, satisfaction and function respectively. Follow up magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)(at 6 mo) showed continuity and the bulk of pectoralis major muscle in all cases. Average isokinetic strength deficiency in horizontal adduction at 60° was 13.63% ± 6.93% and at 120° was 10.18% ± 4.93% and in flexion at 60° was 10.72% ± 5.08% and at 120° was 6.63% + 3.74%. Results showed that both ASES and Penn score improved significantly(2 tailed P value = 0.0036).CONCLUSION We could conclude from this series that pectoralis major repair even in chronic cases using 5.5 mm corkscrew anchors give excellent functional and cosmetic results. 20Three-Dimensional Distance-Error-Correction-Based Hop Localization Algorithm for IoT Devices显示文摘The Internet of Things(IoT)is envisioned as a network of various wireless sensor nodes communicating with each other to offer state-of-the-art solutions to real-time problems.These networks of wireless sensors monitor the physical environment and report the collected data to the base station,allowing for smarter decisions.Localization in wireless sensor networks is to localize a sensor node in a two-dimensional plane.However,in some application areas,such as various surveillances,underwater monitoring systems,and various environmental monitoring applications,wireless sensors are deployed in a three-dimensional plane.Recently,localization-based applications have emerged as one of the most promising services related to IoT.In this paper,we propose a novel distributed range-free algorithm for node localization in wireless sensor networks.The proposed three-dimensional hop localization algorithm is based on the distance error correction factor.In this algorithm,the error decreases with the localization process.The distance correction factor is used at various stages of the localization process,which ultimately mitigates the error.We simulated the proposed algorithm using MATLAB and verified the accuracy of the algorithm.The simulation results are compared with some of the well-known existing algorithms in the literature.The results show that the proposed three-dimensional error-correctionbased algorithm performs better than existing algorithms.Deepak Prashar Gyanendra Prasad Joshi Sudan Jha Eunmok Yang Kwang Chul Son 2021Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,2:0
