| 2 | Multicenter case-control study of the risk factors for ulcerative colitis in China显示文摘AIM:To evaluate potential risk factors in the development of ulcerative colitis(UC) in China.METHODS:A total of 1308 patients with UC and 1308 age-matched and sex-matched controls were prospectively studied in China.The UC cases were collected from 17 hospitals in China from April 2007 to April 2010.Uniform questionnaires were designed to investigate risk factors including smoking,appendectomy,stress,socio-economic conditions,nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs(NSAIDs),oral contraceptives,diet,breastfeeding,infections and family sanitary conditions.Group comparisons by each factor were done using simple logistic regression analysis.Conditional logistic regression was used for multivariate analysis.RESULTS:By univariate analysis,the variables predictive of UC included feeling stress,light and heavy alcoholic drinking,spicy food,sugar consumption and infectious diarrhea,while heavy tea intake and tap water consumption were protective against UC.On multivariate analysis,the protective factor for UC was tap water consumption [odds ratios(OR) = 0.424,95%CI:0.302-0.594,P < 0.001];while the potential risk factors for UC were heavy sugar consumption(OR = 1.632,95%CI:1.156-2.305,P < 0.001),spicy food(light intake:OR = 3.329,95%CI:2.282-4.857,P < 0.001;heavy intake:OR = 3.979,95%CI:2.700-5.863,P < 0.001),and often feeling stress(OR = 1.981,95%CI:1.447-2.711,P < 0.001).Other factors,such as smoking habit,appendectomy,breastfeeding,a history of measles,rural or urban residence,education,oral contraceptives,and NSAID use have not been found to have a significant association with the development of UC in the present study.CONCLUSION:Our study showed tap water consumption was a protective factor for UC,while spicy food,heavy sugar consumption and often feeling stress were risk factors for UC in this Chinese population. | Yu-Fang Wang Qin Ou-yang Bing Xia Li-Na Liu Fang Gu Kai-Fang Zhou Qiao Mei Rui-Hua Shi Zhi-Hua Ran Xiao-Di Wang Pin-Jin Hu Kai-Chun Wu Xin-Guang Liu Ying-Lei Miao Ying Han Xiao-Ping Wu Guo-Bing He Jie Zhong Guan-Jian Liu | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,11: | 24 |
| 3 | Inhibition of 12-lipoxygenase reduces proliferation and induces apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma cells in vitro and in vivo显示文摘BACKGROUND:12-lipoxygenase(12-LOX) has been reported to be an important gene in cancer cell proliferation and survival,and tumor metastasis.However,its role in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cells remains unknown.METHODS:Expression of 12-LOX was assessed in a diethylnitrosamine-induced rat HCC model,and in SMMC-7721,HepG2 and L-02 cells using immunohistochemical staining and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).GST-π and Ki-67 were determined in vivo by immunohistochemical staining.Apoptosis was evaluated by TUNEL assay.Cell viability and apoptosis were determined by MTT assay and flow cytometry,respectively.Apoptosis-related proteins in SMMC-7721 and HepG2 cells were detected by Western blotting.RESULTS:Immunohistochemical staining and RT-PCR showed that 12-LOX was over-expressed in rat HCC and two HCC cell lines,while the expression was inhibited by baicalein,a specific inhibitor of 12-LOX.Baicalein inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in rat HCC and both cell lines in a dose-and time-dependent manner.Our in vivo study demonstrated that baicalein also reduced neoplastic nodules.Mechanistically,baicalein reduced Bcl-2 protein expression coupled with a slight increase of the expression of Bax and activation of caspase-3.Furthermore,baicalein inhibited the activation of ERK-1/2(phosphorylated).Interestingly,the effects of baicalein were reversed by 12(S)-HETE,a metabolite of 12-LOX.CONCLUSIONS:Inhibition of 12-LOX leads to reduced numbers of HCC cells,partially caused by increased apoptosis.12-LOX may be a potential molecular target for HCC prevention and treatment. | Xi-Ming Xu,Guang-Jin Yuan,Jun-Jian Deng,Hong-Ting Guo,Miao Xiang,Fang Yang,Wei Ge and Shi-You Chen Cancer Center, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan 430060, China Cancer Center, the 82nd Hospital of the Chinese PLA, Huai’an 223001, China Department of Physiology, Medical College of Wuhan University, Wuhan 430071, China Department of Physiology & Pharmacology, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602, USA | 2012 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2012,11,2: | 20 |

| 8 | Projected drought conditions in Northwest China with CMIP6 models under combined SSPs and RCPs for 2015—2099显示文摘Northwest China is one of the most arid regions in the world and has experienced intriguing climate warming and humidification.Nonetheless,future climate conditions in Northwest China still remain uncertain.In this study,we applied an ensemble of the 12 latest model simulations of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6)to assess future drought conditions until 2099 in Northwest China,as inferred from the Palmer Drought Severity Index(PDSI).Future drought conditions were projected under three climate change scenarios through the combination of shared socioeconomic pathways(SSPs)and representative concentration pathways(RCPs),namely,SSP126(SSP1+RCP2.6,a green development pathway),SSP245(SSP2+RCP4.5,an intermediate development pathway),and SSP585(SSP5+RCP8.5,a high development pathway).For 2015-2099,drought severity showed no trend under SSP126,in contrast,for the SSP245 and SSP585 scenarios,a rapid increase during 2015-2099 was observed,especially under SSP585.We also found that the drought frequency in Northwest China under SSP585 was generally lower than that under SSP126 and SSP245,although the drought duration under SSP585 tended to be longer.These findings suggest the green development pathway in drought mitigation and adaptation strategies in Northwest China,an arid and agricultural region along the Silk Road. | LI Su-Yuan MIAO Li-Juan JIANG Zhi-Hong WANG Guo-Jie GNYAWALI Kaushal Raj ZHANG Jing ZHANG Hui FANG Ke HE Yu LI Chun | 2020 | Advances in Climate Change Research2020,11,3: | 14 |

| 11 | Late Eocene pollen records and palaeoenvironmental changes in northern Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The Eocene palaeovegetation landscape and palaeoclimate reconstructed from the pollen records in the Jiuquan Basin, northwest China provide some important information on the early uplift of the Tibetan Plateau and the origin and evolution of the aridification in northwest China. The records show the arid-semiarid scrubs with open forest palynofloras controlled by the subtropical high existed in northwest China during the 40.2-33.4 Ma. Four pollen assemblages are found: Nitrariadites-Cheno-podipollis-Pinaceae assemblage (40.2-37.9 Ma) is followed by Chenopodipollis-Nitrariadites assemblage (37.9-34.6 Ma), Pinuspollenites & Abietineaepollenites-Chenopodipollis assemblage (34.6-33.9 Ma), and Chenopodipollis-Nitrariadites assemblage (33.9-33.4 Ma). The percentage of thermophilic types is in anti-correlation with that of the dry types, which means the palaeoclimate is relatively warmwet or cold-dry during most of that time. | 13 | Ginsenoside Rb1 Attenuates Isoflurane/surgery-induced Cognitive Dysfunction via Inhibiting Neuroinflammation and Oxidative Stress显示文摘Objective Anesthetic isoflurane plus surgery has been reported to induce cognitive impairment. The underlying mechanism and targeted intervention remain largely to be determined. Ginsenoside Rb1 was reported to be neuroprotective. We therefore set out to determine whether ginsenoside Rb1 can attenuate isoflurane/surgery-induced cognitive dysfunction via inhibiting neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. Methods Five-months-old C57BL/6J female mice were treated with 1.4% isoflurane plus abdominal surgery for two hours. Sixty mg/kg ginsenoside Rb1 were given intraperitoneally from 7 days before surgery. Cognition of the mice were assessed by Barnes Maze. Levels of postsynaptic density-95 and synaptophysin in mice hippocampus were measured by Western blot. Levels of reactive oxygen species, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 in mice hippocampus were measured by ELISA. Results Here we show for the first time that the ginsenoside Rb1 treatment attenuated the isoflurane/surgery-induced cognitive impairment. Moreover, ginsenoside Rb1 attenuated the isoflurane/surgery-induced synapse dysfunction. Finally, ginsenoside Rb1 mitigated the isoflurane/surgery-induced elevation levels of reactive oxygen species, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 in the mice hippocampus. | 14 | Development and validation of an endoscopic images-based deep learning model for detection with nasopharyngeal malignancies显示文摘Background:Due to the occult anatomic location of the nasopharynx and frequent presence of adenoid hyperpla-sia,the positive rate for malignancy identification during biopsy is low,thus leading to delayed or missed diagnosis for nasopharyngeal malignancies upon initial attempt.Here,we aimed to develop an artificial intelligence tool to detect nasopharyngeal malignancies under endoscopic examination based on deep learning.Methods:An endoscopic images-based nasopharyngeal malignancy detection model(eNPM-DM)consisting of a fully convolutional network based on the inception architecture was developed and fine-tuned using separate training and validation sets for both classification and segmentation.Briefly,a total of 28,966 qualified images were collected.Among these images,27,536 biopsy-proven images from 7951 individuals obtained from January 1st,2008,to December 31st,2016,were split into the training,validation and test sets at a ratio of 7:1:2 using simple randomiza-tion.Additionally,1430 images obtained from January 1st,2017,to March 31st,2017,were used as a prospective test set to compare the performance of the established model against oncologist evaluation.The dice similarity coef-ficient(DSC)was used to evaluate the efficiency of eNPM-DM in automatic segmentation of malignant area from the background of nasopharyngeal endoscopic images,by comparing automatic segmentation with manual segmenta-tion performed by the experts.Results:All images were histopathologically confirmed,and included 5713(19.7%)normal control,19,107(66.0%)nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC),335(1.2%)NPC and 3811(13.2%)benign diseases.The eNPM-DM attained an overall accuracy of 88.7%(95%confidence interval(CI)87.8%-89.5%)in detecting malignancies in the test set.In the prospective comparison phase,eNPM-DM outperformed the experts:the overall accuracy was 88.0%(95%CI 86.1%-89.6%)vs.80.5%(95%CI 77.0%-84.0%).The eNPM-DM required less time(40 s vs.110.0±5.8 min)and exhibited encouraging performance in automatic segmentation of nasopharyngeal malignant area from the background,with an average DSC of 0.78±0.24 and 0.75±0.26 in the test and prospective test sets,respectively.Conclusions:The eNPM-DM outperformed oncologist evaluation in diagnostic classification of nasopharyngeal mass into benign versus malignant,and realized automatic segmentation of malignant area from the background of nasopharyngeal endoscopic images. | Chaofeng Li Bingzhong Jing Liangru Ke Bin Li Weixiong Xia Caisheng He Chaonan Qian Chong Zhao Haiqiang Mai Mingyuan Chen Kajia Cao Haoyuan Mo Ling Guo Qiuyan Chen Linquan Tang Wenze Qiu Yahui Yu Hu Liang Xinjun Huang Guoying Liu Wangzhong Li Lin Wang Rui Sun Xiong Zou Shanshan Guo Peiyu Huang Donghua Luo Fang Qiu Yishan Wu Yijun Hua Kuiyuan Liu Shuhui Lv Jingjing Miao Yanqun Xiang Ying Sun Xiang Guo Xing Lv | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 9 |

Ginsenoside Rg1 is reported to be neuroprotective. We therefore set out to determine whether ginsenoside Rg1 can attenuate isoflurane-induced caspase activation via inhibiting mitochondrial dysfunction. Methods We investigated the effects of ginsenoside Rg1 at concentrations of 12.5, 25, and 50 μmol/L and pretreatment times of 12 h and 24 h on isoflurane-induced caspase-3 activation in H4 na?ve and stably transfected H4 human neuroglioma cells that express full-length human amyloid precursor protein(APP)(H4-APP cells). For mitochondrial dysfunction, we assessed mitochondrial permeability transition pore(m PTP) and adenosine-5'-triphosphate(ATP) levels. We employed Western blot analysis, chemiluminescence, and flowcytometry. Results Here we show that pretreatment with 50 μmol/L ginsenoside Rg1 for 12 h attenuated isoflurane-induced caspase-3 activation and mitochondrial dysfunction in H4-APP cells, while pretreatment with 25 and 50 μmol/L ginsenoside Rg1 for 24 h attenuated isoflurane-induced caspase-3 activation and mitochondrial dysfunction in both H4 na?ve and H4-APP cells. Conclusion These data suggest that ginsenoside Rg1 may ameliorate isoflurane-induced caspase-3 activation by inhibiting mitochondrial dysfunction. | 16 | Abnormal CD44 activation of hepatocytes with nonalcoholic fatty accumulation in rat hepatocarcinogenesis显示文摘BACKGROUND Prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is rapidly increasing,and NAFLD has become one of the most common chronic liver diseases worldwide.With abnormal CD44 activation,the severe form of NAFLD can progress to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Thus,the molecular mechanism of CD44 in NAFLD needs to be identified.AIM To investigate the relationship between CD44 activation and malignant transformation of rat hepatocytes under nonalcoholic lipid accumulation.METHODS Sprague-Dawley rats were fed a high-fat(HF)for 12 wk to entice NAFLD and then with HF plus 2-fluorenylacetamide(0.05%)to induce HCC.Rats were sacrificed every 2 wk,and subsequently divided into the groups based on liver pathological examination(hematoxylin and eosin staining):NAFLD,denaturation,precancerosis,HCC,and control.Liver CD44 mRNA was detected by OneArray.Liver fat as assessed by Oil red O staining or CD44 by immunohistochemical assay was compared with their integral optic density.Serum CD44,alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,triglyceride,total cholesterol,and AFP levels were quantitatively tested.RESULTS Elevated CD44 was first reported in hepatocarcinogenesis,with increasing expression from NAFLD to HCC at the protein or mRNA level.The CD44 integral optic density values were significantly different between the control group and the NAFLD(t=25.433,P<0.001),denaturation(t=48.822,P<0.001),precancerosis(t=27.751,P<0.001),and HCC(t=16.239,P<0.001)groups,respectively.Hepatic CD44 can be secreted into the blood,and serum CD44 levels in HCC or precancerous rats were significantly higher(P<0.001)than those in any of the other rats.Positive correlations were found between liver CD44 and CD44 mRNA(rs=0.373,P=0.043)and serum CD44(rs=0.541,P=0.002)and between liver CD44 mRNA and serum CD44(rs=0.507,P=0.004).Moreover,significant correlations were found between liver CD44 and liver AFP(rs=0.572,P=0.001),between serum CD44 and serum AFP(rs=0.608,P<0.001),and between CD44 mRNA and AFP mRNA(rs=0.370,P=0.044).CONCLUSION The data suggested that increasing CD44 expression is associated with the malignant transformation of hepatocytes in NAFLD. | Miao Fang Min Yao Jie Yang Wen-Jie Zheng Li Wang Deng-Fu Yao | 2020 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2020,12,1: | 8 |
| 17 | Simultaneous regulation of cations and anions in an electrolyte for high-capacity, high-stability aqueous zinc–vanadium batteries显示文摘Safe,inexpensive aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs)are regarded as promising energy storage devices.However,they still face issues,including dissolution and collapse of the cathode as well as H_(2)evolution and the growth of Zn dendrites on the Zn anode.Herein,we simultaneously regulate the cations and anions in the electrolyte for high-capacity,high-stability aqueous zinc–vanadium(Zn–V)batteries based on a bimetallic cation-doped Na_(0.33)K_(0.1)V_(2)O_(5)·nH_(2)O cathode.We demonstrate that Na^(+) cations suppress cathode dissolution and restrain Zn dendrite growth on the anode via an electrostatic shield effect.We also illustrate that ClO_(4)^(-) anions participate in energy storage at the cathode and are reduced to Cl^(-),generating a protective layer on the Zn anode surface and providing a stable interface to decrease Zn dendrites and H_(2)evolution during long-term cycling.When Na^(+) and ClO_(4)^(-) are introduced into an aqueous ZnSO_(4) electrolyte,a Zn/Zn symmetric cell shows durable and reversible Zn stripping/plating for 1500 h at a current density of 1 mA cm^(-2) and with an area capacity of 1 mAh cm^(-2).Zn/Na_(0.33)K_(0.1)V_(2)O_(5)·nH_(2)O full batteries exhibit a high capacity of 600 mAh g^(-1)at 0.1 A g^(-1) and long-term cycling performance for 5000 cycles,with a capacity of 200 mAh g^(-1) at 20 Ag^(-1). | Ziqing Wang Miao Zhou Liping Qin Minghui Chen Zixian Chen Shan Guo Liangbing Wang Guozhao Fang Shuquan Liang | 2022 | eScience2022,2,2: | 8 |
| 18 | Pulsed radiofrequency inhibits expression of P2X3 receptors and alleviates neuropathic pain induced by chronic constriction injury in rats显示文摘Background:Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) is a minimally invasive interventional technique that provides a novel and effective treatment strategy for neuropathic pain (NP).PRF is advantageous because it does not damage nerves and avoids sensory loss after treatment.At present,animal studies have demonstrated that PRF is safe and effective for relieving the NP associated with sciatic nerve damage in rats with chronic constriction injury (CCI).However,the mechanism through which this effect occurs is unknown.An increasing body of evidence shows that the expression of the P2X ligand-gated ion channel 3 (P2X3) receptor is closely related to NP;this study was to investigate whether the expression of this receptor is involved in NP relief due to PRF.Methods:A total of 36 healthy adult male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into three groups:Sham group,CCI group,and PRF group.The right sciatic nerve was ligated in CCI group and PRF group to establish a CCI model;the right sciatic nerve was separated but not ligated in Sham group.On day 14 after the operation,PRF was administered to the ligated sciatic nerve in PRF group (42℃,45 V,2 min).A non-live electrode was placed at the exposed sciatic nerve for the rats in Sham and CCI groups.The hindpaw withdrawal threshold (HWT) and thermal withdrawal latency (TWL) were measured at the right hindpaw at different time points before and after PRF or sham therapy.On day 28 after treatment,the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) and spinal dorsal horn of the right L4-6 were harvested from each group to determine the mRNA and protein levels of the P2X3 receptor.Results:On day 28 after PRF treatment,the HWT (8.33 ± 0.67 g vs.3.62 ± 0.48 g) and TWL (25.42 ± 1.90 s vs.15.10 ± 1.71 s) were significantly higher in PRF group as compared to CCI group (P < 0.05).The mRNA expression of the P2X3 receptor in the DRG in PRF group was 23.7% lower than that in CCI group (P < 0.05),in the spinal dorsal horns in PRF group was 22.7% lower than that in CCI group (P < 0.05).The protein expression of the P2X3 receptor in the DRG in PRF group was 27.8 % lower than that in CCI group (P < 0.05),in the spinal dorsal horns in PRF group was 35.6% lower than that in CCI group (P < 0.05).Conclusion:PRF possibly reduces NP in CCI rats by inhibiting the expression of the P2X3 receptor in the L4-6 DRG and spinal dorsal horns. | Miao Fu Lan Meng Hao Ren Fang Luo | 2019 | Chinese Medical Journal2019,,14: | 8 |
| 19 | Perfusion of gastrodin in abdominal aorta for alleviating spinal cord ischemia reperfusion injury显示文摘Objective:To observe the effects of perfusion of the gastrodin in abdominal aorta for alleviating the spinal cord ischemia reperfusion injury(SCIRI).Methods:A total of 36 New Zealand white rabbits were divided randomly into sham-operated group(group S),control group(group C) and gastrodin group(group G),12 rabbits for each group.Aorta abdominalis infrarenalis blocking method was applied to establish the SCIRI model.The changes of motor evoked potentials(MEPs) before the ischemia and on 30 min,60 min,6 h,12 h and 24 h of reperfusion of the gastrodin were respectively recorded,and the neurologic function score before the ischemia,on the 6 h,12 h and 24 h of the reperfusion of the gastrodin were assessed.And the changes of the concentration of serum neuron specific enolase(NSE),interleukin(IL)-l β and IL-8 were measured before the ischemia,after 45 min of ischemia,and on 30 min,60 min,6 h,12 h and 24 h of reperfusion of gastrodin.Then the levels of spinal cord nerve cells mitochondrial superoxide dismutase(SOD),reactive oxygen species(ROS),glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX),malondialdehyde(MDA),total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC) and mitochondrial swelling degree(MSD) were tested and the histopathologic changes in spinal cord tissues were observed.Results:The levels of the NSE,IL-lfter the ischemβ,IL-8,ROS,MDA and MSD of group C were all significantly elevated aia(P<0.01);the levels of the spinal nerve cell mitochondria SOD,GSH-PX and T-AOC were all significantly reduced(P<0.01),MEPs and spinal cord tissue pathology were damaged significantly(P<0.01).The rate of motor neuron abnormalities and the damages of spinal cord tissue pathology of group G were significantly milder than those of group C(P<0.01);the levels of NSE,IL-lROS,MDA and MSD were significantly lower than those of group C(P< 0.01),but tβ,IL-8,he levels of SOD,GSH-PX and T-AOC were all significantly higher than those of group C(P<0.01),and the recovery of neurologic function score during the reperfusion of gastrodin was significantly faster than group C(P<0.01).Conclusions:Perfusion of the gastrodin in abdominal aorta can alleviate the spinal cord ischemiare perfusion injury by promoting the mitochondrial antioxidant capacity and inhibiting the inflammatory reaction. | Hua Fang Jing-Chao Zhang Miao Yang Hua-Feng Li Jian-Ping Zhang Fang-Xiang Zhang Quan-Yun Wang Ru-Rong Wang Jin Liu | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,7: | 8 |
