| 1 | Chinese deserts and sand fields in Last Glacial Maximum and Holocene Optimum显示文摘The Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, c. 26-16 ka) and the Holocene Optimum (HO, c. 9-5 ka) were characterized by cold-dry and warm-wet climates respectively in the recently geological Earth. How Chinese deserts and sand fields responded to these distinctive climatic changes is still not clear, however. To reconstruct environments of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO is helpful to understand the forcing mechanisms of environment change in this arid region, and to test paleoclimatic modeling results. Through our long-term field and laboratory investigations, 400 optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) ages and more than 100 depositional records in the Chinese deserts and sand fields were obtained; on the basis of these data, we reconstruct spatial distributions of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO. Our results show that the sand fields of Mu Us, Hunshandake, Horqin and Hulun Buir in northern and northeastern China had expanded 25%, 37%, 38% and 270%, respectively, during the LGM; the sand fields of Gonghe in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau had expanded 20%, and the deserts of Badain Jaran, Tengger in central northern China had expanded 39% and 29% separately during the LGM; the deserts of Taklimakan, Gurbantünggüt and Kumtag in northwestern China had expanded 10%-20% respectively, compared to their modern areas. On the other hand, all of the sand fields were nearly completely covered by vegetation during the HO; the deserts in northwestern and central northern China were reduced by around 5%-20% in area during this time. Lakes in this arid region were probably expanded during the HO but this conclusion needs more investigation. Compared with the geological distributions of deserts and sand fields, human activity has clearly changed (expanded) the area of active sand dunes at the present time. | 2 | S100A8 promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastasis under TGF-β/USF2 axis in colorectal cancer显示文摘Background:The transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β)pathway plays a pivotal role in inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT),which is a key step in cancer invasion and metastasis.However,the regulatory mechanism of TGF-βin inducing EMT in colorectal cancer(CRC)has not been fully elucidated.In previous studies,it was found that S100A8 may regulate EMT.This study aimed to clarify the role of S100A8 in TGF-β-induced EMT and explore the underlying mechanism in CRC.Methods:S100A8 and upstream transcription factor 2(USF2)expression was detected by immunohistochemistry in 412 CRC tissues.Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed.In vitro,Western blot,and migration and invasion assays were performed to investigate the effects of S100A8 and USF2 on TGF-β-induced EMT.Mouse metastasis models were used to determine in vivo metastasis ability.Luciferase reporter and chromatin immunoprecipitation assay were used to explore the role of USF2 on S100A8 transcription.Results:During TGF-β-induced EMT in CRC cells,S100A8 and the transcription factor USF2 were upregulated.S100A8 promoted cell migration and invasion and EMT.USF2 transcriptionally regulated S100A8 expression by directly binding to its promoter region.Furthermore,TGF-βenhanced the USF2/S100A8 signaling axis of CRC cells whereas extracellular S100A8 inhibited the USF2/S100A8 axis of CRC cells.S100A8 expression in tumor cells was associated with poor overall survival in CRC.USF2 expression was positively related to S100A8 expression in tumor cells but negatively related to S100A8-positive stromal cells.Conclusions:TGF-βwas found to promote EMT and metastasis through the USF2/S100A8 axis in CRC while extracellular S100A8 suppressed the USF2/S100A8 axis.USF2 was identified as an important switch on the intracellular and extracellular S100A8 feedback loop. | Si Li Jun Zhang Senmi Qian Xuesong Wu Liang Sun Tianyi Ling Yao Jin Wenxiao Li Lichao Sun Maode Lai Fangying Xu | 2021 | Cancer Communications2021,41,2: | 5 |
| 3 | Lipidomics reveals association of circulating lipids with body mass index and outcomes in IgA nephropathy patients显示文摘IgA nephropathy(IgAN)is a leading cause of chronic kidney disease(CKD),which are commonly accompanied by dyslipidemia.Obesity is also associated with dyslipidemia and risk of CKD,but the relation of the dyslipidemia patterns with obesity and disease progression in IgAN patients remains unknown.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and the combined treatment with corticosteroids and TCM have been shown to be of benefit for IgAN patients,but predictive markers for guiding these treatments are lacking.Here,we quantified 545 lipid species in the plasma from 196 participants,including 140 IgAN patients and 56 healthy volunteers,and revealed an altered plasma lipidome in IgAN patients as compared to healthy participants.Association analysis showed that a subgroup of glycerides,particularly triacylglycerols(TGs)containing docosahexaenoic acid,were positively associated with high body mass index(BMI)in under-or normal-weight IgAN patients,while several free fatty acids and sphingomyelins were positively associated with high BMI in overweight or obese IgAN patients.Further,our study suggested that elevated levels of eight lipids,mainly TG species containing linolenic acid,were independent risk factors for IgAN progression and also reported the prospective association of circulating lipids with treatment outcomes in IgAN.Taken together,our findings may not only help to achieve precision medicine but also provide a knowledge base for dietary intervention in the treatment of IgAN. | Yueyi Deng Qingqing Wu Wanjia Chen Li Zhu Wangyi Liu Fangying Xia Liang Sun Xu Lin Rong Zeng | 2021 | Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2021,13,8: | 2 |
| 4 | Impact of Internet Literacy,Internet Addiction Symptoms on Quality of Life显示文摘As a country with the largest absolute number of Internet users in the world,China has witnessed that Internet addiction is becoming a prominent issue.Young adults like university students are particularly susceptible to the lure of the Internet,and they are described as being obsessed with the Internet.According to the latest report of the China Internet Network Information Center(CNNIC),netizens aged 20-29 have become the largest group of Internet users in China,accounting for 30.7%of the total Chinese netizens.Therefore,it is very important to study the Internet use and its influence among the young,since young people have become the main body of the Chinese Internet users.Focusing on the two essential factors closely related to Internet addiction as a risk,this study attempted to find out the interrelationships between Internet literacy,Internet addiction,and young people’s quality of life.As for research method,a paper-based survey was conducted to collect data and the final sample size was 1,000.The university student sample was created from a stratified sampling procedure with proportionate allocation among the nine universities in Dalian,a coast city in northeast China.Factor analyses showed different aspects of Internet literacy and various symptoms of Internet addiction among the university students.This study found that Internet addiction had some negative influences on the university students’quality of life.Moreover,the findings showed that Internet literacy has a significant influence on Internet addiction and quality of life among these young people.Basically,those university students with higher level of Internet literacy showed lower degree of Internet addiction and higher degree of quality of life.Therefore,in the future,more attention should be paid to education and activities in order to improve young people’s Internet literacy.The findings further enrich the literature of Internet addiction,Internet literacy,as well as quality of life,and are valuable for prevention,treatment,and recovery of Internet addiction among young people.Research on Internet addiction as an emerging risk in the Chinese context is of great research significance theoretically and practically,not only because Internet addiction is becoming a prominent issue in both China and many other societies,but also because it may act as a good case to study risk issue related to Internet,youth,and everyday life.The results can be used for future studies on Internet addiction,Internet literacy,and quality of life among other subpopulations or within other social contexts. | WU Wenying CUI Fangying | 2018 | Journalism and Mass Communication2018,8,4: | 2 |

| 11 | Primary assessment of the diversity of Omicron sublineages and the epidemiologic features of autumn/winter 2022 COVID-19 wave in Chinese mainland显示文摘With the recent ongoing autumn/winter 2022 COVID-19 wave and the adjustment of public health control measures,there have been widespread SARS-CoV-2 infections in Chinese mainland.Here we have analyzed 369 viral genomes from recently diagnosed COVID-19 patients in Shanghai,identifying a large number of sublineages of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron family.Phylogenetic analysis,coupled with contact history tracing,revealed simultaneous community transmission of two Omicron sublineages dominating the infections in some areas of China(BA.5.2 mainly in Guangzhou and Shanghai,and BF.7 mainly in Beijing)and two highly infectious sublineages recently imported from abroad(XBB and BQ.1).Publicly available data from August 31 to November 29,2022 indicated an overall severe/critical case rate of 0.035%nationwide,while analysis of 5706 symptomatic patients treated at the Shanghai Public Health Center between September 1 and December 26,2022 showed that 20 cases(0.35%)without comorbidities progressed into severe/critical conditions and 153 cases(2.68%)with COVID-19-exacerbated comorbidities progressed into severe/critical conditions.These observations shall alert healthcare providers to place more resources for the treatment of severe/critical cases.Furthermore,mathematical modeling predicts this autumn/winter wave might pass through major cities in China by the end of the year,whereas some middle and western provinces and rural areas would be hit by the upcoming infection wave in mid-to-late January 2023,and the duration and magnitude of upcoming outbreak could be dramatically enhanced by the extensive travels during the Spring Festival(January 21,2023).Altogether,these preliminary data highlight the needs to allocate resources to early diagnosis and effective treatment of severe cases and the protection of vulnerable population,especially in the rural areas,to ensure the country’s smooth exit from the ongoing pandemic and accelerate socio-economic recovery. | Gang Lu Yun Ling Minghao Jiang Yun Tan Dong Wei Lu Jiang Shuting Yu Fangying Jiang Shuai Wang Yao Dai Jinzeng Wang Geng Wu Xinxin Zhang Guoyu Meng Shengyue Wang Feng Liu Xiaohong Fan Saijuan Chen | 2023 | Frontiers of Medicine2023,17,4: | 1 |

| 14 | The Warming of the Tibetan Plateau in Response to Transient and Stabilized 2.0℃/1.5℃Global Warming Targets显示文摘As 'the third pole', the Tibetan Plateau(TP) is sensitive to climate forcing and has experienced rapid warming in recent decades. This study analyzes annual and seasonal near-surface air temperature changes on the TP in response to transient and stabilized 2.0℃/1.5℃ global warming targets based on simulations of the Community Earth System Model(CESM). Elevation-dependent warming(EDW) with faster warming at higher elevations is predicted. A surface energy budget analysis is adopted to uncover the mechanisms responsible for the temperature changes. Our results indicate a clear amplified warming on the TP with positive EDW in 2.0℃/1.5℃ warmer futures, especially in the cold season. Mean TP warming relative to the reference period(1961–90) is dominated by an enhanced downward longwave radiation flux, while the variations in surface albedo shape the detailed pattern of EDW. For the same global warming level, the temperature changes under transient scenarios are ~0.2℃ higher than those under stabilized scenarios, and the characteristics of EDW are broadly similar for both scenarios. These differences can be primarily attributed to the combined effects of differential downward longwave radiation, cloud radiative forcing, and surface sensible and latent heat fluxes.
