Effect of Nd on microstructure and mechanical properties of as-extruded Mg-Y-Zr-Nd alloy显示文摘The microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-Y-Zr-x Nd alloys with 0–2.63 wt% Nd were investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and tensile testing test. Results indicated that more Mg_(24)Y_5 particles and Mg_(14)Nd_2Y(β) phases were dispersed in the matrix when Nd content increased from 0 wt% to 2.63 wt% in the extruded alloys.Consequently, the nucleation of dynamic recrystallization and the volume fraction of recrystallized grains were promoted obviously. The average grain size can be refined in the range of 4.6–1.3 μm after the addition of 2.63 wt% Nd. The tensile strength of extruded alloys increased with increasing Nd content, and elongation exhibited an opposite change tendency. The extruded alloy sheet with 1.01 wt% Nd demonstrates optimal combination of strength and plasticity, i.e., the ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation were 273 MPa, 214 MPa, and 24.2%, respectively. Variations in mechanical properties are discussed on the basis of microstructure observations. | Xiaoyang Xu Xianhua Chen Weiwei Du Yuxiao Geng Fusheng Pan | 2017 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2017,33,9: | 14
Groundwater hydrochemistry and isotope geochemistry in the Turpan Basin, northwestern China显示文摘The Turpan Basin is located in the arid zone of northwestern China and is a typical closed inland basin surrounded by high mountains. It is one of the most arid regions in the world and, as a result, the groundwater in this area is very important for both domestic and agricultural uses. In the present study, the relationships of major elements(K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, HCO3-, SO42- and Cl-) and environmental isotopes(δ18O, δ2H and T) in groundwater were analyzed to investigate the evolution of the regional hydrochemistry within the Turpan Basin. The hydrochemistry results demonstrate that groundwater with high total dissolved solids(TDS) concentration is dominated by sodium chloride(Na-Cl) and sodium sulfate(Na-SO4) type water, whereas that with low TDS concentration(typically from near mountain areas) is dominated by calcium bicarbonate(Ca-HCO3) type water. The evolution of groundwater hydrochemistry within the Turpan Basin is a result of calcium carbonate precipitation, evaporation concentration, cation exchange and dissolution of evaporites(i.e. halite, mirabilite and gypsum). Furthermore, evaporite dissolution associated with irrigation practice plays a key role in the groundwater salinization, especially in the central part of the basin. Environmental isotopes reveal that the groundwater is recharged by precipitation in the mountain areas and fast vertical infiltration of irrigation return flow. In the southern sub-basin the shallow groundwater and the deep groundwater is separated at a depth of about 40 m, with substantial differences in terms of hydrochemical and isotopic characteristics. The results are useful for decision making related to sustainable water resource utilization in the Turpan Basin and other regions in northwestern China. | Lu CHEN GuangCai WANG FuSheng HU YaJun WANG Liang LIU | 2014 | Journal of Arid Land2014,6,4: | 13
Origin of Tafoni in the Late Cretaceous Aeolian Sandstones,Danxiashan UNESCO Global Geopark,South China显示文摘Tafoni occur generally in granular rocks around the world, but their origin remains controversial. In this study, the roles of lithology, micro–climate, and organism in tafoni development are investigated in the Danxiashan UNESCO Global Geopark of South China. The Jinshiyan Temple and Luyitang sites along the Jinjiang River are chosen to conduct tafoni morphometry, bedrock petrography, and micro–climate analyses. The research methods used in this study include field observations and measurements, Voronoi diagrams, polarizing microscopic and scanning electron microscopic(SEM)image analysis, and meteorological detection. The tafoni are mostly 2–10 cm in length and elliptical in shape. The Late Cretaceous Jinshiyan sandstones are characterized by a grain–to–grain contact fabric and moderate sorting with a high proportion of soluble grains and cements. The Voronoi diagrams developed through the Arc GIS software are largely consistent with the tafoni openings. Moreover, owing to exposure to solar insolation, the external temperature values are higher than the internal ones, while the external relative humidity values are lower than the internal ones. Therefore, the permeable Jinshiyan sandstones are fundamental for tafoni development, while the abundant moisture from the Jinjiang River and frequent rains is favorable for salt weathering in tandem with biological activities. At last, a five–stage development model is proposed for the tafoni progression in the study area. | CHEN Liuqin GUO Fusheng LIU Fujun XU Huan DING Ting LIU Xin | 2019 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2019,93,2: | 13
High temperature formability of graphene nanoplatelets-AZ31 composites fabricated by stir-casting method显示文摘Outstanding mechanical properties of graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs)make them ideal reinforcement for mass production of composites. In this research, the composites were fabricated by stir-casting method.GNPs were added in 1.5 and 3.0 wt.%into Mg–3wt.%Al–1wt.%Zn(AZ31)magnesium alloy. As cast ingots were preheated for one hour and extruded at 350℃ with extrusion ratio of 5.2:1.As extruded AZ31-GNPs composites were micro-structurally characterized with X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.Vickers microhardness of synthesized materials was investigated both in parallel and perpendicular to extrusion directions.Room temperature mechanical testing revealed that with increasing GNP’s content, tensile fracture strain was remarkably increased without significant compromise in tensile strength.Furthermore,as extruded AZ31-3GNPs composites were subjected to tensile testing at temperatures ranging from 75℃ to 300℃ with initial strain rate of 2×10^(−3)s^(−1) to evaluate high temperature formability of composite. It was found that like CNTs,GNPs also have the potential to sustain tensile strength at high temperatures. | Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Yanglu Liu Xianhua Chen Han Lin Rongjian Pan Muhammad Asif Jia She | 2016 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2016,4,4: | 9
Kinetics of the hydrogen absorption and desorption processes of hydrogen storage alloys: A review显示文摘High hydrogen absorption and desorption rates are two significant index parameters for the applications of hydrogen storage tanks. The analysis of the hydrogen absorption and desorption behavior using the isothermal kinetic models is an efficient way to investigate the kinetic mechanism.Multitudinous kinetic models have been developed to describe the kinetic process. However, these kinetic models were de-duced based on some assumptions and only appropriate for specific kinetic measurement methods and rate-controlling steps(RCSs),which sometimes lead to confusion during application. The kinetic analysis procedures using these kinetic models,as well as the key kinetic parameters, are unclear for many researchers who are unfamiliar with this field. These problems will prevent the kinetic models and their analysis methods from revealing the kinetic mechanism of hydrogen storage alloys. Thus, this review mainly focuses on the summarization of kinetic models based on different kinetic measurement methods and RCSs for the chemisorption, surface penetration, diffusion of hydrogen, nucleation and growth, and chemical reaction processes. The analysis procedures of kinetic experimental data are expounded,as well as the effects of temperature, hydrogen pressure, and particle radius. The applications of the kinetic models for different hydrogen storage alloys are also introduced. | Qian Li Xi Lin Qun Luo Yuʼan Chen Jingfeng Wang Bin Jiang Fusheng Pan | 2022 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2022,29,1: | 9
Microstructure and strengthening mechanism of hot-extruded ultralight Mg-Li-Al-Sn alloys with high strength显示文摘Duplex-structured Mg-7Li-2Al-1.5Sn alloys with high strength were fabricated and their strengthening mechanism was investigated. The Mg-7Li-2Al-1.5Sn alloys were prepared by casting and extruded at the temperature of 533 K with an extrusion ratio of 25:1.The microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-7Li-2Al-1.5Sn alloys were systematically investigated by OM,XRD,SEM,TEM,and tensile tests. The results show that Mg-7Li-2Al-1.5Sn alloys are mainly composed ofα-Mg,β-Li,LiMgAl_(2),Mg_(2)Sn and Li_(2)MgSn phases. The yield strength(YS),ultimate tensile strength(UTS)and elongation(EL)of the extruded alloy at room temperature reach 250 MPa,324 MPa and 11.9%,respectively.A lot of Sn-rich precipitates(Mg_(2)Sn and Li_(2)MgSn)are precipitated during extrusion with an average size of∼14 nm,which is beneficial to the grain refinement.Dynamic recrystallization occurs during hot deformation and the nanoprecipitates effectively refine the dynamic recrystallized(DRXed)grains.Besides, the residual dislocations existed in DRXed and un-DRXed grains result in the dislocation strengthening in the extruded alloy.Mg7Li-2Al-1.5Sn alloys possess excellent high-temperature mechanical properties with the YS,UTS and EL of 200 MPa,237 MPa and 26.7%at 423 K,respectively.Sn-rich precipitates with good thermal stability can effectively prevent grain growth, which is good for the improvement of the high-temperature performance of Mg-Li-Al-Sn alloy. | Gang Zhou Yan Yang Hanzhu Zhang Faping Hu Xueping Zhang Chen Wen Weidong Xie Bin Jiang Xiaodong Peng Fusheng Pan | 2022 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,8: | 7
Ce and W co-doped CaBi_(2)Nb_(2)O_(9) with enhanced piezoelectric constant and electrical resistivity at high temperature显示文摘Ce and W co-doped CaBi_(2)Nb_(2)O_(9) ceramics with chemical formula Ca_(0.96)Ce_(0.04)Bi_(2)Nb_(2-x)W_(x)O_(9)(CCBNW100x,x=0-0.07)are fabricated via conventional solid state sintering method,to investigate the effect of W addition on the structure, electrical resistivity, dielectric and piezoelectric properties.A piezoelectric constant d33 of 13.4 pC/N is obtained in CCBN-W2 ceramics,>100% higher than that of pure CaBi_(2)Nb_(2)O_(9)(d_(33)=5.8e6.4 pC/N).Of particular significance is that the electrical resistivity of CCBN-W2 ceramics(r=3.7×109 U cm at 500℃)is three orders of magnitude higher than pure CaBi_(2)Nb_(2)O_(9)(r=2.9×10^(6) U cm at same temperature). All these properties, together with its low dielectric loss(tandδ0.13%)and excellent d33 thermal stability up to 800℃,merit the CCBN-W2 ceramics for high temperature piezoelectric sensing applications. | Zong-Yang Shen Chen Qin Wen-Qin Luo Fusheng Song Zhumei Wang Yueming Li Shujun Zhang | 2020 | Journal of Materiomics2020,6,3: | 7

Strain hardening behavior of Mg-Y alloys after extrusion process显示文摘The strain hardening is an effective mode of enhancing mechanical properties in alloys. In this work, the strain hardening behaviors of Mg-xY(x=1,2,and 3 wt%)after extrusion process was investigated using uniaxial tensile tests. Results suggest that the Mg-xY alloys are composed ofα-Mg with a little amount of Mg24Y5 phase. The average grain size reduces from 19.8μm to 12.2μm as the Y content adds from 1 wt%to 2 wt%.Nevertheless, when Y content reaches 3 wt%,the grain size reaches to 12.9μm,which is close to that of Mg-2Y.The strain hardening rate decreases from 883 MPa to 798 MPa at(σ-σ0.2)=40 MPa,and Mg-2Y and Mg-3Y have the similar strain hardening response.Moreover,Mg-1Y shows an obvious ascending stage after the steep decreasing stage, which is mainly caused by the activation of twinning. The strain hardening behavior of Mg-xY is explained based on understanding the roles of the deformation mechanisms via deformation microstructure analysis and Visco-Plastic Self Consistent(VPSC)model. The variation of strain hardening characteristics with increasing Y content is related to the effects of grain size and texture. | Chaoyue Zhao Ziyan Li Jiahui Shi Xianhua Chen Teng Tu Zhu Luo Renju Cheng Andrej Atrens Fusheng Pan | 2019 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2019,7,4: | 6
Strengthening effect of Cu-rich phase precipitation in 18Cr9Ni3CuNbN austenitic heat-resisting steel显示文摘The Cu-containing austenitic heat-resistant steel 18Cr9Ni3CuNbN, which is being used as superheater and reheater tube material for modern ultra-super-critical (USC) power plants all over the world, has been investigated at 650 ℃ long time aging till 10 000 h. SEM, TEM and 3DAP (three dimensional atom probe) have been used to follow microstructural changes with mechanical property variations. Experimental results show that Cu-rich phase and MX precipitate in the grains as well as M 23 C 6 precipitates at grain boundaries are the main precipitation strengthening phases in this steel. Among them Cu-rich phase is the most important strengthening phase. Homogeneous distribution of very fine nano-size Cu-rich phase has been formed at very early stage of 650 ℃ aging (less than 1 h). Cu atoms gradually concentrate to Cu-rich particles and the other elements (such as Fe, Cr, Ni etc) diffuse away from Curich particles to γ-matrix with the increasing of aging time at 650 ? C. The growth rate of Cu-rich phase at 650 ℃ long time aging is very slow and the average diameters of Cu-rich phase have been determined by TEM method. Cu-rich phase keeps in about 30 nm till 650 ℃ aging for 10 000 h. It shows that nano-size Cu-rich phase precipitation strengthening can be kept for long time aging at 650 ℃ because of its excellent stability at high temperatures. According to structure stability study and mechanical properties determination results the Cu-rich phase precipitation sequence and its strengthening mechanism model have been suggested and discussed. | Chengyu CHI Hongyao YU Jianxin DONG Xishan XIE Zhengqiang CUI Xiaofang CHEN Fusheng LIN | 2011 | Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2011,24,2: | 6
A novel approach to melt purification of magnesium alloys显示文摘A novel low-cost method for melt purification of magnesium alloys, the melt self-purifying technology(MSPT),has been developed successfully based on a low temperature melt treatment(LTMT)without adding any fluxes. The iron solubility in the molten liquid of magnesium and its alloys, and the settlement velocity of iron particles were calculated. It is shown that the low temperature melt treatment is an effective method to decrease the impurity Fe content in magnesium and its alloys.Without any additions, the Fe content in the AZ31 alloy was reduced to 15 ppm from the initial 65 ppm,and the Fe content in the AZ61 melt was decreased to 20 ppm from the initial 150 ppm after the low temperature melt treatment. The results also showed that the Fe content in AM60 and AM50 dropped to 15 and 18 ppm, respectively, from the initial 150 ppm after the low temperature melt treatment. For ZK 60,the Fe content in the melt down to less than 5 ppm was achieved. After the low temperature melt treatment, the Si content in the above alloys was also decreased obviously. | Fusheng Pan Xianhua Chen Tao Yan Tingting Liu Jianjun Mao Wei Luo Qin Wang Jian Peng Aitao Tang Bin Jiang | 2016 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2016,4,1: | 5
Effects of Fe concentration on microstructure and corrosion of Mg-6Al-1Zn-xFe alloys for fracturing balls applications显示文摘Mg-6A1-1 Zn-xFe (x = 0,1,3,5 and 7 wt%) alloys were prepared by powder metallurgy and followed by hot extrusion. Majority of Fe element exists as insoluble particles in the alloys. The as-extruded alloys showed higher degradable rates but less stable mechanical properties than as-annealed alloys. Corrosion rate of all the alloys increased with increasing Fe concentration, reaching 2.4 mL cm^-2 h^-1.0.2% yield strength of all the alloys was higher than 150 MPa. In short, Mg-6A1-1 Zn-xFe alloys have an attractive combination of corrosion and mechanical properties, which holds a bright future for fracturing balls applications. | Cheng Zhang Liang Wu Guangsheng Huang Lin Chen Dabiao Xia Bin Jiang Andrej Atrens Fusheng Pan | 2019 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,9: | 5
Review of Mg alloy corrosion rates显示文摘A review of the literature confirmed that the intrinsic corrosion rate of high-purity Mg as measured by weight-loss is 0.3mm/y in a concentrated chloride solution.Atmospheric corrosion of Mg alloys has produced corrosion rates of Mg-Al alloys an order of magnitude lower than the intrinsic corrosion rate of Mg in a concentrated chloride solution of 0.3 mm/y.The only successful strategy to produce a Mg alloy with a corrosion rate in a concentrated chloride solution substantially less than the intrinsic corrosion rate as measured by weight loss of Mg of 0.3 mm/y has been to improve the protectiveness of the corrosion product film. | Andrej Atrens Zhiming Shi Syeda UMehreen Sean Johnston Guang-Ling Song Xianhua Chen Fusheng Pan | 2020 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2020,8,4: | 5
Selective separation of polychlorinated naphthalene (PCNs), hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs) and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in soil matrices显示文摘A method for the selective separation of polychlorinated naphthalene (PCNs), hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs) and tetrabro-mobisphenol A (TBBPA) in complex matrices was developed. In the present study, the type of sorbents and the volume and composition of eluting solvents were investigated in detail. Under the optimal conditions, the recoveries of PCNs, HBCDs and TBBPA in different fractions were determined with liquid/gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC or GC-MS/MS), which was nearly close to 100%. To investigate the feasibility of the developed method, it was applied to isolate target compounds from spiked soil extracts. PCNs, HBCDs and TBBPA could be subsequently eluted with hexane, hexane/dichloromethane (1:1), and hexane/dichloromethane (1:3), and the recoveries of the analysts from three fractions were satisfactory (70.9%-107%) with the exception of -HBCD at low levels. The results indicated that the method exhibited good performance for the selective separation of PCNs, HBCDs and TBBPA and showed great potential in sample pretreatment in terms of alleviating influence from different class of impurities to some extent. | TENG Man JIN Jing FU Qiang CAI YaQi CHEN JiPing WEI FuSheng | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,4: | 4
Strain hardening of as-extruded Mg-xZn(x=1, 2, 3 and 4 wt%) alloys显示文摘The influence of Zn on the strain hardening of as-extruded Mg-x Zn(x = 1, 2, 3 and 4 wt%) magnesium alloys was investigated using uniaxial tensile tests at 10^(-3)s^(-1) at room temperature. The strain hardening rate, the strain hardening exponent and the hardening capacity were obtained from true plastic stress-strain curves. There were almost no second phases in the as-extruded Mg-Zn magnesium alloys. Average grain sizes of the four as-extruded alloys were about 17.8 μm. With increasing Zn content from 1 to 4 wt%, the strain hardening rate increased from 2850 MPa to 6810 MPa at(б-б_(0.2)) = 60 MPa, the strain hardening exponent n increased from 0.160 to 0.203, and the hardening capacity, Hc increased from 1.17 to 2.34.The difference in strain hardening response of these Mg-Zn alloys might be mainly caused by weaker basal texture and more solute atoms in the α-Mg matrix with higher Zn content. | Chaoyue Zhao Xianhua Chen Fusheng Pan Jingfeng Wang Shangyu Gao Teng Tu Chunquan Liu Jiahao Yao Andrej Atrens | 2019 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,1: | 4
The effects of Ca and Mn on the microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of Mg-4 Zn alloy显示文摘The microstructural evolution, texture and mechanical properties of nine Mg-4Zn-xCa-yMn alloys(x=0.3,0.6,1.0;y=0.2,0.3,0.7 wt.%)were investigated systematically.Alloying with Ca and Mn refined the grains of the extruded sheets and increased the unDRX fraction.Mn could be the heterogeneous nucleation site of Ca2Mg6Zn3 phase because of a good atom matching at the orientation relationship of(211)_(Mn)//(1211)_(Ca2Mg6Zn3),(251)_(Mn)//〈1103〉_(Ca2Mg6Zn3).The traditional texture weakening effect of Ca was strongly decreased for the simultaneously addition of Mn.With increasing Ca and Mn concentration, the strength increased and ductility decreased.Mg-4Zn-0.6Ca-0.7Mn exhibited a good combination of ultimate tensile strength(320 MPa),yield strength(286 MPa)and elongation(16%).A model of strengthening indicated that grain boundary strengthening and precipitate strengthening made a large contribution to the strength of Mg-4Zn-0.6Ca-0.7Mn.In addition, the dynamic recrystallization, texture modification and the strengthening effect from different parts also have been analyzed in detail. | Chunquan Liu Xianhua Chen Jiao Chen Andrej Atrens Fusheng Pan | 2021 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2021,9,3: | 4
