| 1 | Regional applicability of seven meteorological drought indices in China显示文摘The definition of a drought index is the foundation of drought research.However,because of the complexity of drought,there is no a unified drought index appropriate for different drought types and objects at the same time.Therefore,it is crucial to determine the regional applicability of various drought indices.Using terrestrial water storage obtained from the Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment,and the observed soil moisture and streamflow in China,we evaluated the regional applicability of seven meteorological drought indices:the Palmer Drought Severity Index(PDSI),modified PDSI(PDSI_CN) based on observations in China,self-calibrating PDSI(scPDSI),Surface Wetness Index(SWI),Standardized Precipitation Index(SPI),Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index(SPEI),and soil moisture simulations conducted using the community land model driven by observed atmospheric forcing(CLM3.5/ObsFC).The results showed that the scPDSI is most appropriate for China.However,it should be noted that the scPDSI reduces the value range slightly compared with the PDSI and PDSI_CN;thus,the classification of dry and wet conditions should be adjusted accordingly.Some problems might exist when using the PDSI and PDSI_CN in humid and arid areas because of the unsuitability of empiricalparameters.The SPI and SPEI are more appropriate for humid areas than arid and semiarid areas.This is because contributions of temperature variation to drought are neglected in the SPI,but overestimated in the SPEI,when potential evapotranspiration is estimated by the Thornthwaite method in these areas.Consequently,the SPI and SPEI tend to induce wetter and drier results,respectively.The CLM3.5/ObsFC is suitable for China before 2000,but not for arid and semiarid areas after 2000.Consistent with other drought indices,the SWI shows similar interannual and decadal change characteristics in detecting annual dry/wet variations.Although the long-term trends of drought areas in China detected by these seven drought indices during 1961-2013 are consistent,obvious differences exist among the values of drought areas,which might be attributable to the definitions of the drought indices in addition to climatic change. | YANG Qing LI MingXing ZHENG ZiYan MA ZhuGuo | 2017 | Science China Earth Sciences2017,60,4: | 21 |

| 3 | Strain hardening behavior of Mg-Y alloys after extrusion process显示文摘The strain hardening is an effective mode of enhancing mechanical properties in alloys.In this work,the strain hardening behaviors of Mg-xY(x=1,2,and 3 wt%)after extrusion process was investigated using uniaxial tensile tests.Results suggest that the Mg-xY alloys are composed ofα-Mg with a little amount of Mg24Y5 phase.The average grain size reduces from 19.8μm to 12.2μm as the Y content adds from 1 wt%to 2 wt%.Nevertheless,when Y content reaches 3 wt%,the grain size reaches to 12.9μm,which is close to that of Mg-2Y.The strain hardening rate decreases from 883 MPa to 798 MPa at(σ-σ0.2)=40 MPa,and Mg-2Y and Mg-3Y have the similar strain hardening response.Moreover,Mg-1Y shows an obvious ascending stage after the steep decreasing stage,which is mainly caused by the activation of twinning.The strain hardening behavior of Mg-xY is explained based on understanding the roles of the deformation mechanisms via deformation microstructure analysis and Visco-Plastic Self Consistent(VPSC)model.The variation of strain hardening characteristics with increasing Y content is related to the effects of grain size and texture. | Chaoyue Zhao Ziyan Li Jiahui Shi Xianhua Chen Teng Tu Zhu Luo Renju Cheng Andrej Atrens Fusheng Pan | 2019 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2019,7,4: | 6 |
| 4 | Biodegradation of indole by a newly isolated Cupriavidus sp. SHE显示文摘Indole, a typical nitrogen heterocyclic aromatic pollutant, is extensively spread in industrial wastewater. Microbial degradation has been proven to be a feasible approach to remove indole, whereas the microbial resources are fairly limited. A bacterial strain designated as SHE was isolated and found to be an efficient indole degrader. It was identified as Cupriavidus sp. according to 16 SrRNA gene analysis. Strain SHE could utilize indole as the sole carbon source and almost completely degrade 100 mg/L of indole within 24 hr. It still harbored relatively high indole degradation capacity within p H 4–9 and temperature 25°C–35°C. Experiments also showed that some heavy metals such as Mn2+, Pb2+and Co2+did not pose severe inhibition on indole degradation. Based on high performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrum analysis, isatin was identified as a minor intermediate during the process of indole biodegradation. A major yellow product with m/z 265.0605(C15H8N2O3) was generated and accumulated, suggesting a novel indole conversion pathway existed. Genome analysis of strain SHE indicated that there existed a rich set of oxidoreductases, which might be the key reason for the efficient degradation of indole. | 5 | Endothelial cells-targeted soluble human Delta-like 4 suppresses both physiological and pathological ocular angiogenesis显示文摘Due to its essential roles in angiogenesis, Notch pathway has emerged as an attractive target for the treatment of pathologic angiogenesis. Although both activation and blockage of Notch signal can impede angiogenesis, activation of Notch signal may be more promising because it was shown that long-term Notch signal blockage resulted in vessel neoplasm. However, an in vivo deliverable Notch ligand with highly efficient Notch-activating capacity has not been developed. Among all the Notch ligands, Delta-like4(Dll4) is specifically involved in angiogenesis. In this study, we generated a novel soluble Notch ligand h D4 R, which consists of the Delta-Serrate-Lag-2 fragment of human Dll4 and an arginine-glycine-aspartate(RGD) motif targeting endothelial cells(ECs). We demonstrated that h D4 R could bind to ECs through its RGD motif and effectively triggered Notch signaling in ECs. Further, we confirmed that h D4 R could suppress angiogenesis in vitro as manifested by network formation assay and sprouting assay. More importantly, h D4 R efficiently repressed neonatal retinal angiogenesis and laser-induced choroidal neovascularization(CNV) as well in vivo. | 6 | Suppress voltage decay of lithium-rich materials by coating layers with different crystalline states显示文摘Li-rich oxides are considered as the most commercial potential cathode materials due to the high theoretical specific discharge capacity. Here, ZrO_(2) in different crystalline states are applied as the coating layers to enhance the electrochemical performance of hollow Li[Li_(0.2)Mn_(0.54)Ni_(0.13)Co_(0.13)]O_(2) materials.Meanwhile, a series of characterizations(XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX etc.) are conducted to compare the effects of ZrO_(2) coating layer with different crystalline states on the host material. | 12 | Marine-inspired molecular mimicry generates a drug-free, but immunogenic hydrogel adhesive protecting surgical anastomosis显示文摘Herein,we report the synthesis of a biomimic hydrogel adhesive that addresses the poor healing of surgical anastomosis.Dopamine-conjugated xanthan gum(Da-g-Xan)is fabricated using deep insights into the molecular similarity between mussels'adhesive and dopamine as well as the structural similarity between barnacle cement proteins and xanthan gum.The hydrogel mimics marine animals’adherence to wet tissue surfaces.Upon applying this adhesive to colonic anastomosis in a rat model,protective effects were shown by significantly improving the bursting pressure.Mechanistically,the architecture of Da-g-Xan hydrogel is maintained by dynamic intermolecular hydrogen bonds that allow the quick release of Da-g-Xan.The free Da-g-Xan can regulate the inflammatory status and induce type 2 macrophage polarization(M2)by specifically interacting with mannose receptors(CD206)revealed by RNA-sequencing and molecular binding assays.Consequently,an appropriate microenvironment for tissue healing is created by the secretion of chemokines and growth factors from M2 macrophages,strengthening the fibroblast migration and proliferation,collagen synthesis and epithelial vascularization.Overall,this study demonstrates an unprecedented strategy for generating an adhesive by synergistic mimicry inspired by two marine animals,and the results show that the Da-g-Xan adhesive augments native tissue regenerative responses,thus enabling enhanced recovery following surgical anastomosis. | Jinjian Huang Yungang Jiang Ye Liu Yanhan Ren Ziyan Xu Zongan Li Yun Zhao Xiuwen Wu Jianan Ren | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,3: | 2 |
