| 1 | MICROSTRUCTURE FORMATION AND MECHANICAL PROPERTY INVOLVING ICOSAHEDRAL QUASICRYSTAL PHASE OF Y RICH Mg-Zn-Y QUASICRYSTAL ALLOY显示文摘The microstructure formation and mechanical property involving icosahedral quasicrystal (I-phase) in the Y-rich Mg-Zn-Y alloy have been studied. The equilibrium formation of I-phase from the Y-rich Mg-Zn-Y melt is through a peritectic reaction between the Y-rich melt and the primary W-phase, which is discussed in detail. The independent nucleation and coupling growth mechanism between the W-phase and the I-phase, from the melt, are revealed, which is significant for understanding the peritectic reaction process involving icosahedral quasicrystal in the Mg-Zn-Y alloy. The mechanism of the quasicrystal phase strengthened magnesium alloys is also discussed here. | D.Q. Wan G.C. Yang M. Zhu | 2007 | Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2007,20,6: | 4 |

| 7 | INFLUENCE OF EXTRUSION ON DAMPING CAPACITIES OF AS-SPRAY DEPOSITED HIGH SILICON ALLOY ZA27 MODIFIED BY CERIUM显示文摘The effects of cerium modification and extrusion on the resultant damping behavior and mechanical properties of the as-sprayed high silicon alloy ZA27 were investigated in an thort to develop a new functional material possessing high damping capacity and good mechanical properties. The damping capacity, as well as the rslative dynamic modulus, was tneasured at frequencies of 1 and 4 Hertz over the 30 to 200℃runge. At below 80℃ the as-sprayed materials appear to be approximately Asquency independent. Above 80℃, the, naterials becotne temperature sensitive, exhibiting the highest damping for the lowest hequency. The extruded, as-sprayed high silicon alloy ZA27 modified by cerium has the highest damping capacity and elongation values among them. The micro8tructure of the as-sprayed high silicon alloy ZA27 modified by 0. 5 wt% cerium was made up of fine lamellar eutectoid, porositg, a light dot-like phase and a polygonal silicon-rich phase. Finally, the opemtive damping tnechanisms were discussed in light of the data obtained hem characterization of microstructure and damping capacity. The high damping capacity was attributed primarily to phase interface thermoelastic damping between the lamellar phases with various substrvctures, except for the grain refinement. | YC. Liu G.C. | 11 | GRAIN REFINEMENT IN BULK HYPERCOOLED Ni_(50)Cu_(50) ALLOY显示文摘Undereooling eoperiments on binary Ni50 Cu50 alloy melts were conducted. The hypercooling limit of this alloy, which is about 310K, was evaluated by mcasuring plateau time needed for the interkendritic liquid solidification and extmpolating this function to zero. This limit was exceeded first in the binary alloy undereooled by about 320K.The effect of liquid undercooling on the respective microstructure evolution was studied by optical metallogrnphy. The hypercooled microstructure contains rcsidual fragments within grain boundaries and is quite different from those obtained at undercoolings below 310K. The finding indicated the existence of dendrite break up. The dendrite break up may be induced either by remelting or by stress. By considering hyperrooling conditions and comparing two grain ndnement microstructures observed at small and larpe undereoolings, the forms of dendrite break up and the grain refinement mechanism exceeding the hypereooling limit are further discussed. | G.S. | 12 | RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN MODELING THE DAMPING BEHAVIOR OF MMCs显示文摘Taking three kinds of metal-matrix composites (MMCS) (laminated composites, fibers reinforced MMCs, and particle-reinforced MMCs)as examples, the recent develop ments in modeling the damping behaviors of MMCs are extensively reviewed. The damping mechanisms of different kinds of composites are quite different, and therefore, the analytical of numerical methods for different kinds of MMCs are also quite different. This will he shown in this extensive review. Furthermore, the directions of future developments in modeling the damping behavior of MMCs are also presented. | J.C. Wang, Z.M. Zhang and G.C. | 13 | GRAIN REFINEMENT INDUCED BY REMELTING INUNDERCOOLED Fe-30at.%Co ALLOYS显示文摘Fe-30at.%Co alloy is undereooled to investigate the effct of remelting on the grain size at certain undereooling rnnges. At low undereoolings, the primary stable fcc phase is remelted, which results in the equiaxed grains. When the melt is undercooled greater than the critical undereooling △T=204K the primary metastable bcc phase will alternatively nucleate in the melt. The primary bcc dendrite will be remelted into isolated dendrite cores dispersing in the remaining liquids. In the meanwhile, the isolated dendrite cores are remelted more or less due to the temperature fluctuation in the liquids. Different crystal structures between bcc and fcc phase make the subsequent crystal growth of fcc phase onto the Primary bcc phase non-epitaxial when the melt is undereooled greater than △T=204K. The primary metastable bcc phase may play an important role in coarsening grains in the systetn at larpe undereoolings. | M. J Li G.S. Song G.C.
