| 1 | Genotypic Characterization of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Pigs and Retail Foods in China显示文摘Objective To investigate the genotypic diversity of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) isolated from pigs and retail foods from different geographical areas in China and further to study the routes and rates of transmission of this pathogen from animals to food. Methods Seventy-one MRSA isolates were obtained from pigs and retail foods and then characterized by multi-locus sequencing typing(MLST), spa typing, multiple-locus variable number of tandem repeat analysis(MLVA), pulsed-field gel electrophoresis(PFGE), and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Results All isolated MRSA exhibited multi-drug resistance(MDR). Greater diversity was found in food-associated MRSA(7 STs, 8 spa types, and 10 MLVA patterns) compared to pig-associated MRSA(3 STs, 1 spa type, and 6 MLVA patterns). PFGE patterns were more diverse for pig-associated MRSA than those of food-associated isolates(40 vs. 11 pulse types). Among the pig-associated isolates, CC9-ST9-t899-MC2236 was the most prevalent clone(96.4%), and CC9-ST9-t437-MC621(20.0%) was the predominant clone among the food-associated isolates. The CC9-ST9 isolates showed significantly higher antimicrobial resistance than other clones. Interestingly, CC398-ST398-t034 clone was identified from both pig-and food-associated isolates. Of note, some community-and hospital-associated MRSA strains(t030, t172, t1244, and t4549) were also identified as food-associated isolates. Conclusion CC9-ST9-t899-MC2236-MDR was the most predominant clone in pigs, but significant genetic diversity was observed in food-associated MRSA. | 3 | effective treatment of post-intubation subglottic stenosis in children with holmium laser therapy and cryotherapy via flexible bronchoscopy显示文摘Importance:Post-intubation subglottic stenosis(SGS)in children can be life threatening.Definitive treatment varies and lacks a universally accepted approach.Objective:We performed a prospective study to assess the safety and feasibility of holmium laser combined with cryotherapy delivered via flexible bronchoscopy for the treatment of post-intubation SGS in children.Methods:This study involved all patients with post-intubation SGS seen at the Interventional Pulmonology Department of Beijing Children's Hospital between July 2014 and December 2016.Holmium laser treatment and cryotherapy was then performed under flexible bronchoscopy,whose parents refused to accept the alternative standard treatment of tracheotomy and balloon dilation under direct laryngoscopy.results:Sixteen patients with post-intubation SGS were included in this study.Ages ranged from 2 months to 12.25 years old.According to the Cotton-Myer grading system,three cases were Grade II,12 cases were Grade III,and one case was Grade IV.According to the McCaffrey system,eight cases were Stage 1,two cases were Stage 2,and six cases were Stage 3.The average number of procedures was 4.88.Fifteen of the 16 patients achieved clinical cure.One patient achieved clinical improvement.The average treatment course duration was 55.31 days.No severe complications were seen.Post-treatment clinical symptoms,endoscopic findings and quality of life showed marked improvement.Interpretation:Our study supports the conclusion that holmium laser treatment combined with cryotherapy via flexible bronchoscopy appears to be a safe and feasible treatment for post-intubation SGS in children. | Anxia Jiao Fang Liu Andrew D.Lerner Xiaochun Rao Yan Guo Chenfang Meng Yuena Pan Gan Li Zheng Li Fang Wang Jing Zhao Yuyan Ma Xicheng Liu Xin Ni Kunling Shen | 2019 | Pediatric Investigation2019,3,1: | 10 |

| 6 | Short- and long-term outcomes associated with enhanced recovery after surgery protocol vs conventional management in patients undergoing laparoscopic gastrectomy显示文摘BACKGROUND At present,the enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS)protocol is widely implemented in the field of gastric surgery.However,the effect of the ERAS protocol on the long-term prognosis of gastric cancer has not been reported.AIM To compare the effects of ERAS and conventional protocols on short-term outcomes and long-term prognosis after laparoscopic gastrectomy.METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the data of 1026 consecutive patients who underwent laparoscopic gastrectomy between 2012 and 2015.The patients were divided into either an ERAS group or a conventional group.The groups were matched in a 1:1 ratio using propensity scores based on covariates that affect cancer survival.The primary outcomes were the 5-year overall and cancer-specific survival rates.The secondary outcomes were the postoperative short-term outcomes and inflammatory indexes.RESULTS The patient demographics and baseline characteristics were similar between the two groups after matching.Compared to the conventional group,the ERAS group had a significantly shorter postoperative hospital day(7.09 d vs 8.67 d,P<0.001),shorter time to first flatus,liquid intake,and ambulation(2.50 d vs 3.40 d,P<0.001;1.02 d vs 3.64 d,P<0.001;1.47 d vs 2.99 d,P<0.001,respectively),and lower medical costs($7621.75 vs$7814.16,P=0.009).There was a significantly higher rate of postoperative complications among patients in the conventional group than among those in the ERAS group(18.1 vs 12.3,P=0.030).Regarding inflammatory indexes,the C-reactive protein and procalcitonin levels on postoperative day 3/4 were significantly different between the two groups(P<0.001 and P=0.025,respectively).The ERAS protocol was associated with significantly improved 5-year overall survival and cancer-specific survival rates compared with conventional protocol(P=0.013 and 0.032,respectively).When stratified by tumour stage,only the survival of patients with stage III disease was significantly different between the two groups(P=0.044).CONCLUSION Adherence to the ERAS protocol improves both the short-term outcomes and the 5-year overall survival and cancer-specific survival of patients after laparoscopic gastrectomy. | Yu-Long Tian Shou-Gen Cao Xiao-Dong Liu Ze-Qun Li Gan Liu Xing-Qi Zhang Yu-Qi Sun Xin Zhou Dao-Sheng Wang Yan-Bing Zhou | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,37: | 8 |
| 7 | Two energy balance closure approaches: applications and comparisons over an oasis-desert ecotone显示文摘Studies of energy balance that rely on eddy covariance(EC) are always challenged by energy balance closure, which is mainly caused by the underestimations of latent heat flux(LE) and sensible heat flux(Hs). The Bowen ratio(BR) and energy balance residual(ER) approaches are two widely-used methods to correct the LE. A comprehensive comparison of those two approaches in different land-use types is essential to accurately correcting the LE and thus improving the EC experiments. In this study, two energy balance approaches(i.e., BR and ER) were compared to correct the LE measured at six EC sites(i.e., three vegetated, one mixed and two non-vegetated sites) in an oasis-desert ecotone of the Heihe River Basin, China. The influences of meteorological factors on those two approaches were also quantitatively assessed. Our results demonstrated that the average energy closure ratio((LE+Hs)/(Rn–Gs); where Rn is the surface net radiation and Gs is the surface soil heat flux) was approximately close to 1.0 at wetland, maize and village sites, but far from 1.0 at orchard, Gobi and desert sites, indicating a significant energy imbalance at those three latter sites. After the corrections of BR and ER approaches that took into account of soil heat storage, the corrected LE was considerably larger than the EC-measured LE at five of six EC sites with an exception at Gobi site. The BR and ER approaches yielded approximately similar corrected LE at vegetated and mixed sites, but they generated dissimilar results at non-vegetated sites, especially at non-vegetated sites with low relative humidity, strong wind, and large surface-air temperature difference. Our findings provide insight into the applicability of BR and ER approaches to correcting EC-based LE measurements in different land-use types. | 8 | Highly Transparent and Colorless Polyimide Film with Low Dielectric Constant by Introducing Meta-substituted Structure and Trifluoromethyl Groups显示文摘An effective design strategy for preparing highly transparent polyimide film with low dielectric constant is presented.The key to the strategy is to simultaneously introduce meta-substituted structure and trifluoromethyl in polymer chains.By using this design strategy,a highly transparent polyimide film with low-k was synthesized from 3,5-diaminobenzotrifluoride(m-TFPDA)and 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride(6FDA)through a two-step method.The obtained m-TFPDA/6FDA(CPI)film(~30 pm)possesses high optical transparency(λ_(cutoff)=334 nm,T_(450nm)=85.26%,Haze=0.31)and is close to colorless(L^(*)=96.03,a^(*)=-0.34,b^(*)=2.12,yellow index=3.96).The intrinsic k and dielectric loss value of the film are 2.27 and 0.0013 at 10 kHz,respectively.More importantly,such low dielectric performance could remain stable up to 280℃,and the film shows a low moisture rate(~0.51%),which helps to maintain the low-k property stability in different humid environments.Meanwhile,the film also shows good thermal stability and mechanical properties,with a glass transition temperature(T_(g))of 296℃and the 5 wt%decomposition temperature(T_(d,s%))of 522℃under N_(2).The tensile strength and tensile modulus of the film are 85.1 MPa and 1.96 GPa,respectively.In addition,the film is soluble in common solvents,which allows simple solution processing and low-cost,continuous roll-to-roll processes.This design strategy is beneficial to improving the transparency,lightening yellow color,lowering the dielectric constant and meanwhile maintaining the comprehensive properties of polyimide films,which is mainly due to the introduced meta-substituted and trifluoromethyl structures effectively inhibiting the transfer of charge transfer complex(CTC)effects and increasing the free volume of film.This design strategy could also be extended to other high-performance polymer systems. | Hong-Tao Zuo Feng Gan Jie Dong Peng Zhang Xin Zhao Qing-Hua Zhang | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Polymer Science2021,39,4: | 6 |

| 10 | Toxicity of Graphene Quantum Dots in Zebrafish Embryo显示文摘Objective To evaluate the bio-safety of graphene quantum dots(GQDs), we studied its effects on the embryonic development of zebrafish. Methods In vivo, biodistribution and the developmental toxicity of GQDs were investigated in embryonic zebrafish at exposure concentrations ranging from 12.5-200 μg/m L for 4-96 h post-fertilization(hpf). The mortality, hatch rate, malformation, heart rate, GQDs uptake, spontaneous movement, and larval behavior were examined. Results The fluorescence of GQDs was mainly localized in the intestines and heart. As the exposure concentration increased, the hatch and heart rate decreased, accompanied by an increase in mortality. Exposure to a high level of GQDs(200 μg/mL) resulted in various embryonic malformations including pericardial edema, vitelline cyst, bent spine, and bent tail. The spontaneous movement significantly decreased after exposure to GQDs at concentrations of 50, 100, and 200 μg/mL. The larval behavior testing(visible light test) showed that the total swimming distance and speed decreased dose-dependently. Embryos exposed to 12.5 μg/mL showed hyperactivity while exposure to higher concentrations(25, 50, 100, and 200 μg/mL) caused remarkable hypoactivity in the light-dark test. Conclusion Low concentrations of GQDs were relatively non-toxic. | 11 | Effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on the drought resistance of the mining area repair plant Sainfoin显示文摘To solve the problem of lack of water in arid areas and barren soil in the process of ecological restoration,the growth and drought resistance of Sainfoin(Onobrychis viciifolia Scop.) was studied by inoculation of AMF(arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi), under drought stress. The results show that the inoculation of AMF can significantly improve the growth and mycorrhizal infection rate of Sainfoin and accelerate the absorption of water and nutrients by the roots compared with uninoculated plants. On the 40 th day under drought stress, the relative water content, total nitrogen and total phosphorus content of the leaves of inoculated plants increased by 7.27%, 4.21% and 2.40%, respectively, the osmotic adjustment property in plant cells was improved, the protective enzyme system was improved and membrane lipid peroxidation was reduced. | 12 | Effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on the expression of hormone receptors and Ki67 in Chinese breast cancer patients:A retrospective study of 525 patients显示文摘This study was designed to investigate the effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on the expression of hormone receptors and Ki67 in Chinese female breast cancer patients. The expression of estrogen receptor(ER), progesterone receptor(PR) and Ki67 among 525 neoadjuvant chemotherapy cases was studied by immunohistochemistry.Differences between specimens made through preoperative core needle biopsy and excised tissue biopsy were observed. The positive rates of ER, PR and Ki67 in core needle biopsy and excised tissue biopsy were 65.3% and 63.2%, 51.0% and 42.6%, 65.6% and 43.4%, respectively. The expression of ER, PR and Ki67 in core needle biopsy and excised tissue biopsy had no statistically significant difference. However, after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, the discordance rates of ER, PR and Ki67 were 15.2%(79/521), 26.9%(140/520) and 44.8%(225/502), respectively. The ER, PR and Ki67 status changed from positive to negative in 7.5%(39/521), 13.3%(69/520) and 21.1%(106/502) of the patients, whereas ER, PR and Ki67 status changed from negative to positive in 7.7%(40/521), 13.6%(71/520)and 23.7%(119/502) of the patients, respectively. | 13 | Garcinia xanthochymus extract protects PC12 cells from H2O2-induced apoptosis through modulation of PI3K/AKT and NRF2/HO-1 pathways显示文摘The aim of the present study was to investigate the protective effects and underlying mechanisms of Garcinia xanthochymus, a perennial medicinal plant native to Yunnan, China, against H2 O2-induced oxidative damage in rat pheochromacytoma PC12 cells. Preincubation of PC12 cells with fruit Et OAc fraction(fruit-EFr., 12.5–50 μmol·L^(-1)) of G. xanthochymus for 24 h prior to H_2O_2 exposure markedly improved cell viability and increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes(superoxide dismutase, catalase, and heme oxygenase-1 [HO-1]), prevented lactate dehydrogenase release and lipid peroxidation malondialdehyde production, attenuated the decrease of matrix metalloproteinases(MMP), and scavenged reactive oxygen species(ROS). Fruit-EFr. also reduced BAX and cytochrome C expression and improved BCL-2 expression, thereby decreasing the ratio of BAX to BCL-2. Fruit-EFr. activated the nuclear translocation of NRF2 to increase HO-1 and induced the phosphorylation of AKT. Its cytoprotective effect was abolished by LY294002, a specific inhibitor of PI3 K. Heteroatom-containing polymers could serve as good precursors to fabricate doped carbons due to the capability to in situ dope heteroatoms into the structures. In this work,electrospun heterocyclic polyimide(PI) nanofiber membranes containing biphenyl and pyrimidine rings were carbonized to fabricate freestanding and flexible heteroatoms-containing carbon membranes.When the polymer membranes were subjected to various calcination temperatures(from 550℃ to950℃) and durations(0.5-10 h), the structural evolutions strongly affect their electrochemical properties as anodes for lithium ion batteries. It demonstrated that the reversible specific capacity of obtained sample treated at 650℃ for 3 h could achieve 695 mAh/g at 0.1 A/g and retain 245 mAh/g at 1.5 A/g after300 cycles. | 19 | Genetic diagnosis history and osteoarticular phenotype of a nontransfusion secondary hemochromatosis显示文摘BACKGROUND It is not easy to identify the cause of various iron overload diseases because the phenotypes overlap.Therefore,it is important to perform genetic testing to determine the genetic background of patients.AIM To investigate the genetic background of a patient with hemochromatosis complicated by psoriasis on both lower extremities.METHODS Ten years ago,a 61-year-old male presented with iron overload,jaundice,hemolytic anemia and microcytic hypochromic anemia.Computed tomography of the left knee joint showed enlargement of the tibial medullary cavity and thinned bone cortices.Magnetic resonance imaging showed hepatic hemochromatosis,extensive abnormal signals from bone marrow cavities and nodular lesions in the lateral medullary cavity of the upper left lateral tibia.Single photon emission computed tomography showed radial dots of abnormal concentration in the upper end of the left tibia and radial symmetry of abnormal concentrations in joints of the extremities.The patient showed several hot spot mutations of the HFE and G6PD genes detected by next-generation sequencing,but no responsible gene mutation was found.The thalassemia gene was detected by gap-PCR.RESULTS The patient was found to carry the-α4.2 and--SEA deletion mutations of the globin gene.These two mutations are common causes of Southeast Asianα-thalassemia,but rarely cause severe widespread non-transfusion secondary hemochromatosis osteoarthropathy.The simultaneous presence of an auxiliary superposition effect of a rare missense mutation of the PIEZO1 gene(NM_001142864,c.C4748T,p.A1583V)was considered.Moreover,several rare mutations of the IFIH1,KRT8,POFUT1,FLG,KRT2,and TGM5 genes may be involved in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.CONCLUSION The selection of genetic detection methods for hemochromatosis still needs to be based on an in-depth study of the clinical manifestations of the disease. | Dan-Dan Ruan Yu-Mian Gan Tao Lu Xiao Yang Yao-Bin Zhu Qing-Hua Yu Li-Sheng Liao Ning Lin Xin Qian Jie-Wei Luo Fa-Qiang Tang | 2020 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2020,8,23: | 4 |
| 20 | Occurrence conditions of positive cloud-to-ground flashes in severe thunderstorms显示文摘The purpose of this study was to understand the reasons why frequent positive cloud-to-ground(+CG) flashes occur in severe thunderstorms. A three-dimensional dynamics-electrification coupled model was used to simulate a severe thunderstorm to permit analysis of the conditions that might easily cause +CG flashes. The results showed that strong updrafts play an important role in the occurrence of intracloud flashes. However, frequent +CG flashes require not only strong updrafts but also strong downdrafts in the lower cloud region, conditions that correspond to the later phase of the mature stage and the period of the heaviest solid precipitation of a thunderstorm. During this stage, strong updrafts elevated each charge area in the updraft region to a higher level, which resulted in an inverted tripole charge structure. A wide mid-level region of strong positive charge caused largely by positively charged graupel, presented in the middle of the updraft region because of a non-inductive ice-ice collisional charging mechanism. The charge structure in the downdraft region was consistently more complex and revealed several vertically stacked charge regions, alternating in polarity. Much of the graupel/hail outside the updrafts was lowered to cloud-base by strong downdrafts. In this area, the graupel/hail was charged negatively because of the transportation of negatively charged graupel/hail from higher regions of negative charge in the updrafts, and via the inductive charging mechanism of collisions between graupel/hail and cloud droplets at the bottom of the cloud. Consequently, a large region of negative charge formed near the ground. This meant that +CG flashes were initiated more easily in the lower inverted dipole, i.e., the middle region of positive charge and lower region of negative charge. Frequent +CG flashes began almost synchronously with dramatic increases in the storm updrafts, hail volume, and total flash rate.
