| 1 | Legalon-SIL downregulates HCV core and NS5A in human hepatocytes expressing full-length HCV显示文摘AIM: To determine the effect of Legalon-SIL (LS) on hepatitis C virus (HCV) core and NS5A expression and on heme oxygenase-1 (HMOX-1) and its transcriptional regulators in human hepatoma cells expressing full length HCV genotype 1b. METHODS: CON1 cells were treated with 50 μmol/L or 200 μmol/L LS. Cells were harvested after 2, 6 and 24 h. HCV RNA and protein levels were determined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting, respectively. RESULTS: HCV RNA (core and NS5A regions) wasdecreased after 6 h with LS 200 μmol/L (P < 0.05). Both 50 and 200 μmol/L LS decreased HCV RNA levels [core region (by 55% and 88%, respectively) and NS5A region (by 62% and 87%, respectively) after 24 h compared with vehicle (dimethyl sulphoxide) control (P < 0.01). Similarly HCV core and NS5A protein were decreased (by 85%, P < 0.01 and by 65%, P < 0.05, respectively) by LS 200 μmol/L. | 2 | Fungal diversity notes 367-490:taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions to fungal taxa显示文摘This is a continuity of a series of taxonomic papers where materials are examined,described and novel combinations are proposed where necessary to improve our traditional species concepts and provide updates on their classification.In addition to extensive morphological descriptions and appropriate asexual and sexual connections,DNA sequence data are also analysed from concatenated datasets(rDNA,TEF-a,RBP2 and b-Tubulin)to infer phylogenetic relationships and substantiate systematic position of taxa within appropriate ranks.Wherever new species or combinations are being proposed,we apply an integrative approach(morphological and molecular data as well as ecological features wherever applicable).Notes on 125 fungal taxa are compiled in this paper,including eight new genera,101 new species,two new combinations,one neotype,four reference specimens,new host or distribution records for eight species and one alternative morphs.The new genera introduced in this paper are Alloarthopyrenia,Arundellina,Camarosporioides,Neomassaria,Neomassarina,Neotruncatella,Paracapsulospora and Pseudophaeosphaeria.The new species are Alfaria spartii,Alloarthopyrenia italica,Anthostomella ravenna,An.thailandica,Arthrinium paraphaeospermum,Arundellina typhae,Aspergillus koreanus,Asterina | 3 | Effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Hibiscus rosa sinensis Linn.leaves in experimental colitis in rats显示文摘Objective:To elucidate the ameliorative effect of liydrualcuholic extract of leaves of Hibiscus rosa sinensis(HRS) in acetic acid induced experimental colitis in male wistar rats.Methods: The animals were administered with 2 mL acetic acid(4%) via intra rectal.The animals were divided into various treatment groups(n=6).Prednisolone was used as standard drug and HRS was administered at a dose of 50,100 and 200 mg/kg p.o.The control group of animals received 1 mL of vehicle(distilled water).Ulcer area,ulcer index,spleen weight,colon weight to length ratio, macroscopic score,haemalological parameters,colonic superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione(GSH),myeloperoxidase(MPO),malondialdchyde(MDA),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNK- α), nitric oxide(NO) and histological changes were recorded after the treatment regimen of 11 days. | 4 | Evidence for colorectal sarcomatoid carcinoma arising from tubulovillous adenoma显示文摘Sarcomatoid carcinomas of the colorectum are rare tu- mors that display both malignant epithelial and stromal components. Clinically, they are aggressive tumors with early metastasis. Due to their infrequent occurrence, the pathogenesis is poorly understood. We report a case of a 52-year-old woman who presented with a rectal mass and intermittent hematochezia. Superficial biopsies during colonoscopy revealed a tubulovillous adenoma with high-grade dysplasia. Endoscopic ultra- sonography confirmed an invasive nature of the mass, and deeper biopsies revealed the presence of neoplasm with mixed histological components. The surgically- excised specimen demonstrated the presence of poorly differentiated spindle cells underneath the tubulovillous adenoma and an intermediate stage of invasive adeno- carcinoma. Based on the histological appearance and immunohistochemical studies, a diagnosis of sarcoma- toid carcinoma was made. Only nine cases of sarcoma- toid carcinomas of the colorectum have been reported to date. As a result, the terminology and pathogenesis of sarcomatoid carcinoma remain speculative. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of co- existence of sarcomatoid carcinoma and invasive ad- enocarcinoma with tubulovillous adenoma; all stages represented within the same tumor.
