| 1 | IL-25 stimulates M2 macrophage polarization and thereby promotes mitochondrial respiratory capacity and lipolysis in adipose tissues against obesity显示文摘Obesity and associated metabolic diseases are characterized by a chronic low-grade inflammatory state with the infiltration of many inflammatory cells,especially macrophages.Immune molecules,including some cytokines,have a close relationship with metabolism.Interleukin(IL)-25 is a member of the IL-17 cytokine family that can regulate macrophages and alleviate some metabolic dysfunction;however,its role and mechanisms in lipid metabolism remain to be extensively clarified.Human serum and liver biopsy specimens,high-fat diet-induced obesity mice and DB/DB(Lepr−/−)animal models were used to examine IL-25 expression in obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases(NAFLD).To observe the role of IL-25 in lipid metabolism,model mice were administered with IL-25 or adoptively transferred with IL-25-educated macrophages in vivo,whereas bone marrow-derived macrophages,the macrophage cell line RAW264.7 and adipocytes differentiated from 3T3-L1 were used in vitro.IL-25 was decreased in NAFLD patients and obese mice.In addition,IL-25 reduced body weight gain and lipid accumulation,enhanced lipid uptake by macrophages and increased the expression of lipolysis andβ-oxidation enzymes via alternatively activating macrophages.IL-25 also promoted lipolysis and suppressed lipogenesis in adipocytes co-cultured with the IL-25-educated macrophages.Furthermore,IL-25 improved the mitochondrial respiratory capacity and oxygen consumption rate of macrophages and produced more NAD+/NADH and ATP.In conclusion,IL-25 can stimulate M2 macrophage polarization and thereby promote lipolysis and mitochondrial respiratory capacity,highlighting the potential for IL-25 to be used as a therapeutic agent against obesity and associated metabolic syndromes. | Juan Feng Lingyi Li Zhiying Ou Qiao Li Baoyong Gong Zhenxian Zhao Weiwei Qi Ti Zhou Jun Zhong Weibin Cai Xia Yang Aiping Zhao Guoquan Gao Zhonghan Yang | 2018 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2018,15,5: | 10 |
| 2 | Inhibition of adipogenic differentiation by myostatin is alleviated by arginine supplementation in porcine-muscle-derived mesenchymal stem cells显示文摘Porcine mesenchymal stem cells in postnatal muscle have been demonstrated to differentiate into adipocytes.This increases adipocyte number and lipid accumulation,and is thought to be the origin of intramuscular fat.In this study,the effects of myostatin and arginine on adipogenic differentiation in mesenchymal stem cells derived from porcine muscle (pMDSCs) were investigated in vitro.Intracellular triglyceride levels were reduced by exogenous myostatin and increased by arginine supplementation or myostatin antibody (P<0.01).The inhibition of lipid accumulation by myostatin in pMDSCs was alleviated by arginine supplementation (P<0.01).Expression patterns of adipogenic transcription factors showed that exogenous myostatin suppressed PPARγ2 and aP2 expression (P<0.01),while supplemental arginine or myostatin antibody promoted ADD1 expression (P<0.01).Furthermore,compared with the addition of either myostatin protein or antibody alone,ADD1 and PPARδ expression were promoted by the combination of arginine and myostatin (P<0.01),and arginine combined with myostatin antibody promoted the expression of ADD1,PPAR,C/EBP,PPAR 2 and LPL in pMDSCs (P<0.05).These results suggest that myostatin inhibits adipogenesis in pMDSCs,and that this can be alleviated by arginine supplementation,at least in part,through promoting ADD1 and PPAR expression. | LEI HuLong YU Bing YANG XueRong LIU ZeHui HUANG ZhiQing MAO XiangBing TIAN Gang HE Jun HAN GuoQuan CHEN Hong MAO Qian CHEN DaiWen | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,10: | 4 |

| 4 | Microdisk lasers on an erbium-doped lithium-niobite chip显示文摘Lithium niobate on insulator(LNOI) provides a platform for the fundamental physics investigations and practical applications of integrated photonics. However, as an indispensable building block of integrated photonics, lasers are in short supply. In this paper, erbium-doped LNOI laser in the 1550-nm band was demonstrated in microdisk cavities with high quality factors fabricated in batches by UV exposure, inductively coupled plasma reactive ion etching, and chemomechanical polishing. The threshold and conversion efficiency of the erbium-doped LNOI microdisk laser were measured to be lower than 1 m W and 6.5×10^(-5)%, respectively. | 7 | Differentiations of geographic distribution and subsistence strategies between Tibetan and other major ethnic groups are determined by the physical environment in Hehuang Valley显示文摘The people of the Tibetan Plateau have received extensive attention from scholars because of their unique adaptability to the low temperature and anoxic environments. However, the Tibetan communities and their habitats in the low-altitude regions of the plateau have rarely been studied in a scientific manner. Based on the extraction of geographic information of 197 towns in the Hehuang Valley and on variance analysis, this study examines the habitats and subsistence strategies of the Tibetans and other major ethnic groups in the low-latitude region of the Tibetan Plateau. Our statistical results show that the annual average temperature of Tibetan habitats in the Hehuang Valley is relatively high. The relatively warm environment of the valley allows the Tibetans in that area to cultivate wheat and barley and raise cattle and sheep—a subsistence strategy significantly different from that of other Tibetans in the high-altitude regions in the Tibetan Plateau. In addition, the Tibetan communities in the Hehuang Valley include similar agri-pastoral ethnic groups (including Hui and Salar), both of which adopt similar subsistence strategies. The agricultural ethnic groups (Han and Tu) live in a relatively cool and humid environment facilitating agricultural production, while the agri-pastoral ethnic groups (Tibetan, Hui, and Salar) inhabit relatively warm and arid environment in the valley. Due to the lack of agricultural activities, agri-pastoral groups must also engage in animal husbandry to supplement their diet. In the Ando Tibetan region, the subsistence strategies of the ethnic groups are closely related to their physical environment.Those ethnic groups communicate among themselves, integrate, and influence each other, resulting in a diversified culture. This study proves that the habitat variation at a regional scale corresponds significantly to the variation of subsistence strategies. | 16 | Thermoelectric performance enhancement by manipulation of Sr/Ti doping in two sublayers of Ca_(3)Co_(4)O_(9)显示文摘Thermoelectric(TE)performance of Ca_(3)Co_(4)O_(9)(CCO)has been investigated extensively via a doping strategy in the past decades.However,the doping sites of different sublayers in CCO and their contributions to the TE performance remain unrevealed because of its strong correlated electronic system.In this work,Sr and Ti are chosen to realize doping at the[Ca_(2)CoO_(3)]and[CoO_(2)]sublayers in CCO.It was found that figure of merit(ZT)at 957 K of Ti-doped CCO was improved 30% than that of undoped CCO whereas 1 at% Sr doping brought about a 150% increase in ZT as compared to undoped CCO.The significant increase in electronic conductivity and the Seebeck coefficient are attributed to the enhanced carrier concentration and spin-entropy of Co^(4+) originating from the Sr doping effects in[Ca_(2)CoO_(3)]sublayer,which are evidenced by the scanning electron microscope(SEM),Raman,Hall,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis.Furthermore,the reduced thermal conductivity is attributed to the improved phonon scattering from heavier Sr doped Ca site in[Ca_(2)CoO_(3)]sublayer.Our findings demonstrate that doping at Ca sites of[Ca_(2)CoO_(3)]layer is a feasible pathway to boost TE performance of CCO material through promoting the electronic conductivity and the Seebeck coefficient,and reducing the thermal conductivity simultaneously.This work provides a deep understanding of the current limited ZT enhancement on CCO material and provides an approach to enhance the TE performance of other layered structure materials. | Li ZHANG Yichen LIU Thiam Teck TAN Yi LIU Jian ZHENG Yanling YANG Xiaojiang HOU Lei FENG Guoquan SUO Xiaohui YE Sean LI | 2020 | Journal of Advanced Ceramics2020,9,6: | 1 |
