| 1 | Ultrafast hydrogen bond dynamics of liquid water revealed by terahertz-induced transient birefringence显示文摘The fundamental properties of water molecules,such as their molecular polarizability,have not yet been clarified.The hydrogen bond network is generally considered to play an important role in the thermodynamic properties of water.The terahertz(THz)Kerr effect technique,as a novel tool,is expected to be useful in exploring the low-frequency molecular dynamics of liquid water.Here,we use an intense and ultrabroadband THz pulse(peak electric field strength of 14.9 MV/cm,centre frequency of 3.9 THz,and bandwidth of 1–10 THz)to resonantly excite intermolecular modes of liquid water.Bipolar THz field-induced transient birefringence signals are observed in a free-flowing water film.We propose a hydrogen bond harmonic oscillator model associated with the dielectric susceptibility and combine it with the Lorentz dynamic equation to investigate the intermolecular structure and dynamics of liquid water.We mainly decompose the bipolar signals into a positive signal caused by hydrogen bond stretching vibration and a negative signal caused by hydrogen bond bending vibration,indicating that the polarizability perturbation of water presents competing contributions under bending and stretching conditions.A Kerr coefficient equation related to the intermolecular modes of water is established.The ultrafast intermolecular hydrogen bond dynamics of water revealed by an ultrabroadband THz pump pulse can provide further insights into the transient structure of liquid water corresponding to the pertinent modes. | Hang Zhao Yong Tan Liangliang Zhang Rui Zhang Mostafa Shalaby Cunlin Zhang Yuejin Zhao Xi-Cheng Zhang | 2020 | Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1: | 10 |
| 2 | The biological effect of recombinant humanized collagen on damaged skin induced by UV-photoaging:An in vivo study显示文摘The application of medical devices to repair skin damage is clinically accepted and natural polymer enjoys an important role in this field,such as collagen or hyaluronic acid,etc.However,the biosafety and efficacy of these implants are still challenged.In this study,a skin damage animal model was prepared by UV-photoaging and recombinant humanized type Ⅲ collagen(rhCol Ⅲ)was applied as a bioactive material to implant in vivo to study its biological effect,comparing with saline and uncrosslinked hyaluronic acid(HA).Animal skin conditions were non-invasively and dynamically monitored during the 8 weeks experiment.Histological observation,specific gene expression and other molecular biological methods were applied by the end of the animal experiment.The results indicated that rhCol Ⅲ could alleviate the skin photoaging caused by UV radiation,including reduce the thickening of epidermis and dermis,increase the secretion of Collagen Ⅰ(Col Ⅰ)and Collagen Ⅲ(Col Ⅲ)and remodel of extracellular matrix(ECM).Although the cell-material interaction and mechanism need more investigation,the effect of rhCol Ⅲ on damaged skin was discussed from influence on cells,reconstruction of ECM,and stimulus of small biological molecules based on current results.In conclusion,our findings provided rigorous biosafety information of rhCol Ⅲ and approved its potential in skin repair and regeneration.Although enormous efforts still need to be made to achieve successful translation from bench to clinic,the recombinant humanized collagen showed superiorities from both safety and efficacy aspects. | Jing Wang He Qiu Yang Xu Yongli Gao Peijie Tan Rui Zhao Zhanhong Liu Yajun Tang Xiangdong Zhu Chongyun Bao Hang Wang Hai Lin Xingdong Zhang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,5: | 7 |
| 3 | Cell sheet formation enhances the therapeutic effects of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells on myocardial infarction as a bioactive material显示文摘Stem cell-based therapy has been used to treat ischaemic heart diseases for two decades.However,optimal cell types and transplantation methods remain unclear.This study evaluated the therapeutic effects of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell(hUCMSC)sheet on myocardial infarction(MI).Methods:hUCMSCs expressing luciferase were generated by lentiviral transduction for in vivo bio-luminescent imaging tracking of cells.We applied a temperature-responsive cell culture surface-based method to form the hUCMSC sheet.Cell retention was evaluated using an in vivo bio-luminescent imaging tracking system.Unbiased transcriptional profiling of infarcted hearts and further immunohistochemical assessment of monocyte and macrophage subtypes were used to determine the mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of the hUCMSC sheet.Echocardiography and pathological analyses of heart sections were performed to evaluate cardiac function,angiogenesis and left ventricular remodelling.Results:When transplanted to the infarcted mouse hearts,hUCMSC sheet significantly improved the retention and survival compared with cell suspension.At the early stage of MI,hUCMSC sheet modulated inflammation by decreasing Mcp1-positive monocytes and CD68-positive macrophages and increasing Cx3cr1-positive non-classical macrophages,preserving the cardiomyocytes from acute injury.Moreover,the extracellular matrix produced by hUCMSC sheet then served as bioactive scaffold for the host cells to graft and generate new epicardial tissue,providing mechanical support and routes for revascularsation.These effects of hUCMSC sheet treatment significantly improved the cardiac function at days 7 and 28 post-MI.Conclusions:hUCMSC sheet formation dramatically improved the biological functions of hUCMSCs,mitigating adverse post-MI remodelling by modulating the inflammatory response and providing bioactive scaffold upon transplantation into the heart.Translational perspective:Due to its excellent availability as well as superior local cellular retention and survival,allogenic transplantation of hUCMSC sheets can more effectively acquire the biological functions of hUCMSCs,such as modulating inflammation and enhancing angiogenesis.Moreover,the hUCMSC sheet method allows the transfer of an intact extracellular matrix without introducing exogenous or synthetic biomaterial,further improving its clinical applicability. | Rui Guo Feng Wan Masatoshi Morimatsu Qing Xu Tian Feng Hang Yang Yichen Gong Shuhong Ma Yun Chang Siyao Zhang Youxu Jiang Heqing Wang Dehua Chang Hongjia Zhang Yunpeng Ling Feng Lan | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,9: | 6 |

| 7 | Observation of specific ion effects in humus aggregation process显示文摘Specific ion effects play a vital role in a variety of colloidal and interfacial processes.However,few studies have reported the specific ion effects in the humus aggregation process,which strongly influence the transport and fate of environmental pollutants.In this study,soil humus colloids were prepared and characterized,and the specific ion effects on humus aggregation in electrolyte solutions were investigated at a variety of concentrations and pH values using dynamic light scattering methods.Activation energy(ΔE),which is known to reflect the dynamics and stability of a colloidal system,was used to quantitatively characterize the specific ion effects.The results showed that given ΔE value of 2.48×10^(3) J mol^(-1) at pH 3.0,the electrolyte concentrations were 91.6,58.2,3.8,and 0.8 mmol L^(-1) for Na^(+),K^(+),Mg^(2+),and Ca_(2+),respectively,thus indicating significant specific ion effects in the humus aggregation process.Most importantly,decreasing the electrolyte concentrations increased the differences in the ΔE value between two cation species with the same valence(i.e.,ΔE_(Na)-ΔE_(K) and ΔE_(Mg)-ΔE_(Ca)),while increasing the pH increased the magnitude of ΔE_(Mg)-ΔE_(Ca).However,the classic Derjaguin,Landau,Verwey,and Overbeek(DLVO)theory and the double layer theory,as well as the currently widely used ionic hydration and dispersion effects,failed to predict the experimentally observed increase in the specific ion effects with decreasing electrolyte concentrations in a quantitative sense.These results have implications for the necessity of involving specific ion effects for a better understanding of humus aggregation and interactions in aqueous and soil systems. | Rui TIAN Xinmin LIU Xiaodan GAO Rui LI Hang LI | 2021 | Pedosphere2021,31,5: | 3 |

Especially, various MDCs can be constructed into vertical/lateral heterostructures with many novel optical and electrical properties, exhibiting great potential for the application in photodetectors. Therefore, the batch production of 2D MDCs and their heterostructures is crucial for the practical application. Recently, the vapour phase methods have been proved to be dependable for growing large-scale MDCs and related heterostructures with high quality. In this paper, we summarize the latest progress about the synthesis of 2D MDCs and their heterostructures by vapour phase methods. Particular focus is paid to the control of influence factors during the vapour phase growth process. Furthermore, the application of MDCs and their heterostructures in photodetectors with outstanding performance is also outlined. | 10 | The transcription factors TLR1 and TLR2 negatively regulate trichome density and artemisinin levels in Artemisia annua显示文摘The important antimalarial drug artemisinin is biosynthesized and stored in Artemisia annua glandular trichomes and the artemisinin content correlates with trichome density;however,the factors affecting trichome development are largely unknown.Here,we demonstrate that the A.annua R2R3 MYB transcription factor TrichomeLess Regulator 1(TLR1)negatively regulates trichome development.In A.annua,TLR1 overexpression lines had 44.7%–64.0%lower trichome density and 11.5%–49.4%lower artemisinin contents and TLR1-RNAi lines had 33%–93.3%higher trichome density and 32.2%–84.0%higher artemisinin contents compared with non-transgenic controls.TLR1 also negatively regulates the expression of anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway genes in A.annua.When heterologously expressed in Arabidopsis thaliana,TLR1 interacts with GLABROUS3a,positive regulator of trichome development,and represses trichome development.Yeast two-hybrid and pull-down assays indicated that TLR1 interacts with the WUSCHEL homeobox(WOX)protein AaWOX1,which interacts with the LEAFY-like transcription factor TLR2.TLR2 overexpression in Arabidopsis and A.annua showed that TLR2 reduces trichome development by reducing gibberellin levels.Furthermore,artemisinin contents were 19%–43%lower in TLR2-overexpressing A.annua plants compared to controls.These data indicate that TLR1 and TLR2 negatively regulate trichome density by lowering gibberellin levels and may enable approaches to enhance artemisinin yields. | Zongyou Lv JinXing Li Shi Qiu Fei Qi Hang Su Qitao Bu Rui Jiang Kexuan Tang Lei Zhang Wansheng Chen | 2022 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2022,64,6: | 2 |

| 12 | Unraveling the size distributions of surface properties for purple soil and yellow soil显示文摘Soils contain diverse colloidal particles whose properties are pertinent to ecological and human health, whereas few investigations systematically analyze the surface properties of these particles. The objective of this study was to elucidate the surface properties of particles within targeted size ranges(i.e. > 10, 1–10, 0.5–1, 0.2–0.5 and < 0.2 μm) for a purple soil(Entisol) and a yellow soil(Ultisol) using the combined determination method. The mineralogy of corresponding particle-size fractions was determined by X-ray diffraction.We found that up to 80% of the specific surface area and 85% of the surface charge of the entire soil came from colloidal-sized particles(< 1 μm), and almost half of the specific surface area and surface charge came from the smallest particles(< 0.2 μm). Vermiculite,illite, montmorillonite and mica dominated in the colloidal-sized particles, of which the smallest particles had the highest proportion of vermiculite and montmorillonite. For a given size fraction, the purple soil had a larger specific surface area, stronger electrostatic field, and higher surface charge than the yellow soil due to differences in mineralogy.Likewise, the differences in surface properties among the various particle-size fractions can also be ascribed to mineralogy. Our results indicated that soil surface properties were essentially determined by the colloidal-sized particles, and the < 0.2 μm nanoparticles made the largest contribution to soil properties.
