2Experiencing winter for spring flowering: A molecular epigenetic perspective on vernalization显示文摘Many over-wintering plants, through vernalization, overcome a block to flowering and thus acquire competence to flower in the following spring after experiencing prolonged cold exposure or winter cold. The vernalization pathways in different angiosperm lineages appear to have convergently evolved to adapt to temperate climates. Molecular and epigenetic mechanisms for vernalization regulation have been well studied in the crucifer model plant Arabidopsis thaliana.Here, we review recent progresses on the vernalization pathway in Arabidopsis. 4Relationship between stomatal density and the changes of atmospheric CO_2 concentrations显示文摘The relationship between the stomatal density of five woody plants endemic to China, i.e. Eucommia ulmoides, Quercus liaotungensis, Q. glandulifera var. brevipetiolata, Cyclocarya paliurus and Ficus heteromorpha, and the atmospheric CO-2 concentrations was studied by observations on leaves of the herbarium-stored specimens(1920s-1990s). 6A 23 GHz high-temperature superconducting microstrip filter for radio astronomy显示文摘This paper reports a 6-pole high-temperature superconducting (HTS) microstrip bandpass filter for radio astronomy applications. The filter has a center frequency of 23 GHz and a bandwidth the 2 GHz. We have made many efforts, such as adopting 0.25-mm-thick substrate, carefully designing the housing box and filter layout, to solve the problems in realizing a K-band planar filter. A special straight-line half-wavelength resonator (center-widen resonator) was also designed to reduce the insertion loss of the filter. The measured results showed a midband insertion loss of 0.11 dB with a ripple of 0.4 dB, and a return loss better than 11.5 dB. 8Effects of Sc content on the mechanical properties of Al-Sc alloys显示文摘The effects of Sc content on the mechanical properties of Al-Sc alloys were investigated.The results show that the strengths of all the tested alloys with 0.1 wt.%,0.3 wt.%,and 0.4 wt.% Sc additions increase initially with an increase in annealing time,due to the increase in volume fraction and size and the decrease in particle interspacing of Al3Sc particles.After reaching peak values,the strengths of all the tested alloys start to decrease with increasing annealing time due to the coarsening and increase in particle interspacing of Al3Sc particles.It has also been shown that the alloy with 0.3 wt.% Sc has a higher strength and a lower elongation than the alloys with 0.1 wt.% and 0.4 wt.% Sc.The increase in strength and the decrease in elongation of the alloy with 0.3 wt.% Sc are due to the smaller particle interspacing of Al3Sc particles,resulting in a strong inhibition of dislocation movement during deformation.SUN Yingying,SONG Min,and HE Yuehui State Key Laboratory of Powder Metallurgy,Central South University,Changsha 410083,China 2010Rare Metals2010,29,5:6

10Effect of fabrication parameters on the microstructure,in-plane anisotropy and magnetostriction of Fe-Ga thin films显示文摘The microstructure,in-plane anisotropy,and magnetic properties of Fe-Ga thin films were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis,vibrating sample magnetometer,and capacitive cantilever method.The in-plane induced anisotropy is well formed by the applied magnetic field during sputtering,and the anisotropy field Hk decreases with the sputtering power increasing.The coercivity of Fe-Ga thin films decreases with increasing power when the sputtering power is less than 60 W and increases when the power is larger than 60 W.The magnetostriction of the thin films reaches 66 × 10-6 at the sputtering power of 60 W.Excellent Fe-Ga films,which exhibit good field sensitivity,low coercivity and high magnetostriction,have been fabricated at the power of 60 W,and they can be used as the materials of magnetostrictive transducers.WANG Bowen HUANG Wemnei CAO Shuying DU Yong HE Yuehui HUANG Baiyun 2010Rare Metals2010,29,6:4

12Improving Densification and Mechanical Properties of FeAl/TiC Composites by Addition of Ni显示文摘FeAl/TiC composites were fabricated by hot pressing blended elemental powders. The effects of Ni-doping on thedensification and mechanical properties of the composites were studied. Results show that the density of the com-posites decreases with the content of TiC increasing, and the addition of Ni significantly improves the densificationprocess by enhancing mass transfer in the bonding phase. The mechanical properties of the composites are closelyrelated with their porosity. 13Processing TiAl-Based Alloy by Elemental Powder Metallurgy显示文摘TiAl-based alloys with various compositions (including Ti-48Al, Ti-47Al-2Cr-2Nb, Ti-47Al-2Cr- 2Nb-0.2B and Ti-47Al-3Cr, in mole fraction) had been prepared by elemental powder metallurgy (EPM). The results have shown that the density of the prepared Ti-48Al alloy increases with increasing hot pressing temperature up to 1300℃. The Ti-48Al alloy microstructure mainly consisted of island-like Ti3Al phase and TiAl matrix at hot pressing temperature below 1300℃, however, coarse a2/r lamellar colonies and r grains appeared at 1400℃. It has also indicated that the additions of elemental Cr and B can refine the alloy microstructure. The main microstructural inhomogeneity in EPM TiAl-based alloys was the island-like a2 phase or the aggregate of a2/r lamellar colony, and such island-like structure will be inherited during subsequent heat treatment in (a+r) field. Only after heat treatment in a field would this structure be eliminated. The mechanical properties of EPM TiAl-based alloys with various compositions were tested, and the effect of alloy elements on the mechanical properties was closely related to that of alloy elements on the alloy microstructures. Based on the above results, TiAl-based alloy exhaust valves were fabricated by elemental powder metallurgy and diffusion joining. 14Rapid, automated, and reliable antimicrobial susceptibility test from positive blood culture by CAST‐R显示文摘Antimicrobial susceptibility tests(ASTs)are pivotal in combating multidrug resistant pathogens,yet they can be time‐consuming,labor‐intensive,and unstable.Using the AST of tigecycline for sepsis as the main model,here we establish an automated system of Clinical Antimicrobials Susceptibility Test Ramanometry(CAST‐R),based on D2O‐probed Raman microspectroscopy.Featuring a liquid robot for sample pretreatment and a machine learning‐based control scheme for data acquisition and quality control,the 3‐h,automated CAST‐R process accelerates AST by>10‐fold,processes 96 paralleled antibiotic‐exposure reactions,and produces high‐quality Raman spectra.The Expedited Minimal Inhibitory Concentration via Metabolic Activity is proposed as a quantitative and broadly applicable parameter for metabolism‐based AST,which shows 99%essential agreement and 93%categorical agreement with the broth microdilution method(BMD)when tested on 100 Acinetobacter baumannii isolates.Further tests on 26 clinically positive blood samples for eight antimicrobials,including tigecycline,meropenem,ceftazidime,ampicillin/sulbactam,oxacillin,clindamycin,vancomycin,and levofloxacin reveal 93%categorical agreement with BMD‐based results.The automation,speed,reliability,and general applicability of CAST‐R suggest its potential utility for guiding the clinical administration of antimicrobials.Pengfei Zhu Lihui Ren Ying Zhu Jing Dai Huijie Liu Yuli Mao Yuandong Li Yuehui He Xiaoshan Zheng Rongze Chen Xiaoting Fu Lili Zhang Lijun Sun Yuanqi Zhu Yuetong Ji Bo Ma Yingchun Xu Jian Xu Qiwen Yang 2022mLife2022,1,3:3
15Thermo-Calc based multi-component micro-segregation model and solidification paths calculations显示文摘On the basis of a multi-length scale modeling, a mixture-averaged multi-component /multiphase micro-segregation model was proposed without pre-set function for the micro-scale solute profile. The model explains the effect of morphologies of solidifying phases and solid back diffusion (SBD) on segregation, and covers the two limiting solidification cases of Scheil and Lever-rule models. A commercial Thermo-Calc software package/database was linked to the algorithms via its TQ6-interface for instantaneous determination of the related thermodynamic data of the multi-component alloys. The influences of cooling rate and other parameters on the solidification path and micro-segregation behavior were numerically investigated by sample calculation of the ternary Al-Cu-Mg alloys. A parallel experimental investigation on Al-Cu-Si alloys solidified under different cooling conditions was conducted to validate the theoretical model. 16Intensification of the East Asian Monsoon in Southern China at about300-400 kaBP Inferred from Eolian Deposits in the Middle-lower Reaches of the Yangtze River显示文摘In the East Asian monsoon region,eolian deposits widely distributed in the middle-lower reaches of the Yantgze River are among the best materials available for studies on Quaternary climate change in the subtropical zone of Southern China.Typical eolian deposits in this region include upper Xiashu Loess(XL) and underlying Vermiculated Red Soil(VRS) layers.In this paper,chronological and paleoclimatic studies are conducted on an eolian deposit sequence near Jiujiang(JJ) city in northern Jiangxi province.A magnetostratigraphic study,combined with optically stimulated luminescence(OSL) dating,is conducted on the JJ section and provides further evidence that eolian deposits in the middle-lower reaches of the Yangtze River have been formed since the late Early Pleistocene,and that the boundary age between the XL and VRS layers is about 300-400 kaBP.In grain-size records of the JJ section,the median grain-size and content of the >30 μm size fraction increase sharply after 300-400 kaBP,representing an East Asian winter monsoon intensification event.Further pollen analysis reveals differing pollen assemblages before and after 300-400 kaBP:there is an evident increase in plants adapted to grow in a warm humid environment after 300-400 kaBP,implying an increase in precipitation caused by intensification of the East Asian summer monsoon.Global ice volume and uplift of the Tibet Plateau(TP) are regarded as crucial factors influencing variations of the East Asian monsoon on a long-term scale.The deep-sea δ^(18)O record,which reflects variations in global ice volume,shows no obvious change after 300-400 kaBP.Moreover,the influence of global ice volume changes on the East Asian summer and winter monsoons is inverse;the global ice volume increase(decrease) implies a strengthened(weakened) winter monsoon and weakened(strengthened) summer monsoon.We therefore interpret the coupled intensifications of the East Asian summer and winter monsoons at about 300-400 kaBP to the uplift of the TP in the Middle Pleistocene.This climate event is also documented in eolian deposits from the southern margin of the Chinese Loess Plateau(CLP) and from the desert-loess transitional belt.However,it is not recorded in the loess-paleosol sequences from the central part of the CLP,thereby indicating differing climate responses to TP uplift in different regions,which requires further study.QI Lin QIAO Yansong LI Yuehui WANG Yan PENG Shasha HE Zexin YANG Shuaibin HAN Chao ZHANG Xujiao 2017Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2017,91,3:3
17Molecular basis of CONSTANS oligomerization in FLOWERING LOCUS T activation显示文摘The transcription factor CONSTANS(CO)integrates day-length information to induce the expression of florigen FLOWERING LOCUS T(FT)in Arabidopsis.We recently reported that the C-terminal CCT domain of CO forms a complex with NUCLEAR FACTOR-YB/YC to recognize multiple cis-elements in the FT promoter,and the N-terminal tandem B-box domains form a homomultimeric assembly.However,the mechanism and biological function of CO multimerization remained unclear.Here,we report that CO takes on a head-to-tail oligomeric configuration via its B-boxes to mediate FT activation in long days.The crystal structure of B-boxesCOreveals a closely connected tandem B-box fold forming a continuous head-to-tail assembly through unique CDHH zinc fingers.Mutating the key residues involved in CO oligomerization resulted in a non-functional CO,as evidenced by the inability to rescue co mutants.By contrast,a transgene encoding a human p53-derived tetrameric peptide in place of the B-boxesCOrescued co mutant,emphasizing the essential role of BboxesCO-mediated oligomerization.Furthermore,we found that the four TGTG-bearing cis-elements in FT proximal promoter are required for FT activation in long days.Our results suggest that CO forms a multimer to bind to the four TGTG motifs in the FT promoter to mediate FT activation.Xiaolin Zeng Xinchen Lv Rui Liu Hang He Shiqi Liang Lixian Chen Fan Zhang Liu Chen Yuehui He Jiamu Du 2022Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2022,64,3:2

20Genetic and Epigenetic Understanding of the Seasonal Timing of Flowering显示文摘The developmental transition to flowering in many plants is timed by changing seasons,which enables plants to flower at a season that is favorable for seed production.Many plants grown at high latitudes perceive the seasonal cues of changing day length and/or winter cold(prolonged cold exposure),to regulate the expression of flowering-regulatory genes through the photoperiod pathway and/or vernalization pathway,and thus align flowering with a particular season.Recent studies in the model flowering plant Arabidopsis thaliana have revealed that diverse transcription factors engage various chromatin modifiers to regulate several key flowering-regulatory genes including FLOWERING LOCUS C(FLC)and FLOWERING LOCUS T(FT)in response to seasonal signals.Here,we summarize the current understanding of molecular and chromatin-regulatory or epigenetic mechanisms underlying the vernalization response and photoperiodic control of flowering in Arabidopsis.Moreover,the conservation and divergence of regulatory mechanisms for seasonal flowering in crops and other plants are briefly discussed.Yuehui He Tao Chen Xiaolin Zeng 2020Plant Communications2020,1,1:2
