1Large selenium isotopic variations and its implication in the Yutangba Se deposit, Hubei Province, China显示文摘The selenium isotopic ratios have been measured in the Yutangba Se deposit, Hubei Province, China. The results show that the δ 82/76SeNIST values vary from -12.77‰ to 4.93‰, which is the largest Se iso- topic variation found so far in natural terrestrial samples. The sample Ytb-5 of high-selenium carbona-ceous shale has the lightest Se isotopic composition with a δ 82/76SeNIST value of -12.77‰. On the basis of variations of Se isotope in the deposit along with other geological and geochemical evidence, the 'redox model' is suggested to favor the explanation of the occurrence of native Se in the deposit. 2Changes in EEG measurements in intractable epilepsy patients with neurofeedback training显示文摘To assess the effects of neurofeedback on brain electrophysiology and to determine how biofeedback works,power spectral density (PSD) and approximate entropy(ApEn) analyses are applied to the EEGs of six patients with intractable epilepsy who received neurofeedback training.After sessions of treatment,the EEG sensorimotor rhythm to theta PSD ratio calculated from the C4 electrode site becomes larger than that before the treatment,which is consistent with the biofeedback protocol.The ApEn over 16-channel EEG recordings all increase to different degrees.Larger increases occur in channels located near the training position(C4).All these results suggest that these EEG measurements are new criteria that can be used to evaluate the effect of neurofeedback.Longlian Zhao Wenqing Wu Zuoqing Liang Guangshu Hu 2009Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2009,19,11:2

12Micro-computed tomography for small animal imaging: Technological details显示文摘The high-resolution micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) system has now become an important tool for biological research. The micro-CT system enables a non-invasive inspection to screen anatomical changes in small animals. The promising advantages include high-spatial resolution, high sensitivity to bone and lung, short scan time and cost-e ectiveness. The dose received by the small animal might be a critical concern in the research. In this article, the choice of the components, fundamental physical problems, the image recon- struction algorithm and the representative applications of micro-CT are summarized. 16Evaluation of frequency-lowering algorithms for intelligibility of Chinese speech in hearing-aid users显示文摘Despite the attention being given to and the knowledge of the benefits of evaluating frequency-lowering algorithms for hearing-impaired people, the causality between these algorithms and their benefits is still not clear. This is aggravated by the fact that comparative research on the methodologies and skills required for fitting an appropriate algorithm to individual patients is lacking. Against this back-drop, the current study has attempted to make progress in this area. In this experiment, six experienced traditional hearing-aid users with severe impairments in the high frequencies were fitted with two different frequency-lowering methods, and weekly hearing tests were conducted to track the benefits of such methods. After the experiment, five of the listeners accepted the frequency-lowering algorithms. Both methods showed superior results when compared with the listeners' own hearing aids in most of the tests, and the segmented compression algorithm was indicated to have better 'anti-noise' quality and speech intelligibility improvement capabilities. A preference for the application of proportional compression to unvoiced speech was also found in this algorithm. Unlike in previous studies, all speech materials here are recorded in Chinese. Therefore, the results could also be used to evaluate the benefits of frequency-lowering to the intelligibility of Chinese speech for patients. As a result, an improvement was found, especially in the recognition of consonants.
