| 1 | Dynamically controlling terahertz wavefronts with cascaded metasurfaces显示文摘Dynamically controlling terahertz(THz)wavefronts in a designable fashion is highly desired in practice.However,available methods working at microwave frequencies do not work well in the THz regime due to lacking suitable tunable elements with submicrometer sizes.Here,instead of locally controlling individual meta-atoms in a THz metasurface,we show that rotating different layers(each exhibiting a particular phase profile)in a cascaded metadevice at different speeds can dynamically change the effective Jonesmatrix property of the whole device,thus enabling extraordinary manipulations on the wavefront and polarization characteristics of a THz beam impinging on the device.After illustrating our strategy based on model calculations,we experimentally demonstrate two proof-of-concept metadevices,each consisting of two carefully designed all-silicon transmissive metasurfaces exhibiting different phase profiles.Rotating two metasurfaces inside the fabricated devices at different speeds,we experimentally demonstrate that the first metadevice can efficiently redirect a normally incident THz beam to scan over a wide solid-angle range,while the second one can dynamically manipulate both the wavefront and polarization of a THz beam.Our results pave the way to achieving dynamic control of THz beams,which is useful in many applications,such as THz radar,and bio-and chemical sensing and imaging. | Xiaodong Cai Rong Tang Haoyang Zhou Qiushi Li Shaojie Ma Dongyi Wang Tong Liu Xiaohui Ling Wei Tan Qiong He Shiyi Xiao Lei Zhou | 2021 | Advanced Photonics2021,3,3: | 8 |
| 2 | Integrated strategies for chemotherapy cycles in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients: Real-world data from two epidemic centers guiding decision-making显示文摘objective:Two cycles of induction chemotherapy(IC)followed by 2 cycles of platinum-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy(CCRT)(2IC+2CCRT)for locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma(LA-NPC)is widely adopted but not evidence-confirmed.This study aimed to determine the clinical value of 2IC+2CCRT regarding efficacy,toxicity and cost-effectiveness.Methods:This real-world study from two epidemic centers used propensity score matching(PSM)and inverse probability of treatment weighting(IPTW)analyses.The enrolled patients were divided into three groups based on treatment modality:Group A(2IC+2CCRT),Group B(3IC+2CCRT or 2IC+3CCRT)and Group C(3IC+3CCRT).Long-term survival,acute toxicities and cost-effectiveness were compared among the groups.We developed a prognostic model dividing the population into high-and low-risk cohorts,and survivals including overall survival(OS),progression-free survival(PFS),distant metastasis-free survival(DMFS)and locoregional relapse-free survival(LRRFS)were compared among the three groups according to certain risk stratifications.Results:Of 4,042 patients,1,175 were enrolled,with 660,419,and 96 included in Groups A,B and C,respectively.Five-year survivals were similar among the three groups after PSM and confirmed by IPTW.Grade 3-4 neutropenia and leukocytopenia were significantly higher in Groups C and B than in Group A(52.1%vs.41.5%vs.25.2%;41.7%vs.32.7%vs.25.0%)as were grade 3-4 nausea/vomiting and oral mucositis(29.2%vs.15.0%vs.6.1%;32.3%vs.25.3%vs.18.0%).Cost-effective analysis suggested that 2IC+2CCRT was the least expensive,while the health benefits were similar to those of the other groups.Further exploration showed that 2IC+2CCRT tended to be associated with a shorter PFS in high-risk patients,while 3IC+3CCRT potentially contributed to poor PFS in low-risk individuals,mainly reflected by LRRFS.Conclusions:In LA-NPC patients,2IC+2CCRT was the optimal choice regarding efficacy,toxicity and costeffectiveness;however,2IC+2CCRT and 3IC+3CCRT probably shortened LRRFS in high-and low-risk populations,respectively. | Zejiang Zhan Yingying Huang Jiayu Zhou Zhuochen Cai Haoyang Huang Ying Deng Wenze Qiu Xun Cao Xi Chen Chixiong Liang Lulu Zhang Xiang Guo Taize Yuan Xing Lyu | 2023 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2023,35,2: | 1 |
| 3 | A Polysaccharide-based Hydrogel and PLGA Microspheres for Sustained P24 Peptide Delivery: An In vitro and In vivo Study Based on Osteogenic Capability显示文摘A bone morphogenetic protein-2(BMP-2) derived synthetic oligopeptide, S [PO4]KIPKASSVPTELSAISTLYLDDD(P24), has shown great potential for facilitating bone regeneration. However, P24 cannot be directly used onto bone defects, while a continuous sustained delivery of P24 may lead to a better formation of bone tissue. Based on this issue, we have developed a sustained delivery system incorporating P24-loaded poly(lactide-co-glycolide)(PLGA) microspheres and nano-hydroxyapatite(n-HA) into the composite hydrogel. The P24-contained compound material was characterized with NMR, FTIR and SEM to demonstrate the fomiation of compound structure containing P24, PLGA and n-HA. A continuous drug release of P24 was observed for over 60 d that evidently enhanced the efficiency in promoting the proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells and the secrete of alkaline phosphatase(ALP) in vitro. Moreover, the osteoinduction eflect of the hydrogel system with P24 peptide niicrospheres was demonstrated in vivo and manifested by the result of immunohistochemistry. | 4 | SCGPred:A Score-based Method for Gene Structure Prediction by Combining Multiple Sources of Evidence显示文摘Predicting protein-coding genes still remains a significant challenge. Although a variety of computational programs that use commonly machine learning methods have emerged,the accuracy of predictions remains a low level when implementing in large genomic sequences. Moreover,computational gene finding in newly se-quenced genomes is especially a difficult task due to the absence of a training set of abundant validated genes. Here we present a new gene-finding program,SCGPred,to improve the accuracy of prediction by combining multiple sources of evidence. SCGPred can perform both supervised method in previously well-studied genomes and unsupervised one in novel genomes. By testing with datasets composed of large DNA sequences from human and a novel genome of Ustilago maydi,SCG-Pred gains a significant improvement in comparison to the popular ab initio gene predictors. We also demonstrate that SCGPred can significantly improve predic-tion in novel genomes by combining several foreign gene finders with similarity alignments,which is superior to other unsupervised methods. Therefore,SCG-Pred can serve as an alternative gene-finding tool for newly sequenced eukaryotic genomes. | 5 | Optically controlled dielectric metasurfaces for dynamic dual-mode modulation on terahertz waves显示文摘Dynamically controlling terahertz(THz)waves with an ultracompact device is highly desired,but previously realized tunable devices are bulky in size and/or exhibit limited light-tuning functionalities.Here,we experimentally demonstrate dynamic modulation on THz waves with a dielectric metasurface in modeselective or mode-unselective manners through pumping the system at different optical wavelengths.Quasi-normal-mode theory reveals that the physics is governed by the spatial overlap between wave functions of resonant modes and regions inside resonators perturbed by pump laser excitation at different wavelengths.We further design/fabricate a dielectric metasurface and experimentally demonstrate that it can dynamically control the polarization state of incident THz waves,dictated by the strength and wavelength of the pumping light.We finally numerically demonstrate pump wavelength-controlled optical information encryption based on a carefully designed dielectric metasurface.Our studies reveal that pump light wavelength can be a new external knob to dynamically control THz waves,which may inspire many tunable metadevices with diversified functionalities. | Haoyang Zhou Sheng Zhang Shunjia Wang Yao Yao Qingnan Cai Jing Lin Xiaoying Zheng Zhuo Wang Zhensheng Tao Qiong He Lei Zhou | 2023 | Advanced Photonics2023,5,2: | 0 |
