| 2 | Fossil seeds of Euryale(Nymphaeaceae) indicate a lake or swamp environment in the late Miocene Zhaotong Basin of southwestern China显示文摘Euryale(Nymphaeaceae) is a monotypic genus distributed in eastern Asia, but fossils in its native distribution are sparse as compared to Europe where the genus has disappeared. Here, we describe a new fossil species, Euryale yunnanensis sp. nov., from the late Miocene Zhaotong Basin in southwestern China on the basis of seed remains. Characteristics including an ellipsoidal to almost spherical shape,a smooth surface, a germination cap that covers the micropyle, the separation of the hilum and germination cap(micropyle), elliptic testa surface cells with undulate margins and thickened cell walls collectively indicate a close affinity with the genus Euryale in Nymphaeaceae. Comparisons ofseed morphology and anatomy demonstrate that the newly described fossil species differs from modern and other fossil species of Euryale and thus verify the assignment to a new fossil species. As the modern Euryale is an aquatic plant,preferably living in swamps and lakes with shallow and stable water, we hypothesize that a lake and/or swamp environment with shallow water was present near Shuitangba in the Zhaotong Basin, where the Shuitangba hominoid lived during the late Miocene. This inference is generally consistent with paleoenvironmental data extracted from avian, fish, frog, turtle and crocodile fossils, as well as from aquatic pollen. | 3 | Establishing an experimental model of photodynamic induced anterior ischemic optic neuropathy显示文摘BACKGROUND: Scholars have supposed to establish animal models of optic neuropathy by pressing and partially amputating optic nerve, increasing intraocular pressure and injecting vasoconstrictor, etc., but the models are greatly different from anterior ischemia optic neuropathy. Therefore, a more ideal method is needed to establish animal model of anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION).OBJECTIVE: To establish AION models in rats, observe the functional changes of fundus, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA), optical coherence tomography (OCT), flash visual evoked potential (F-VEP), and histopathologically confirm its reliability.DESIGN: A randomized control trial.SETTINGS: Department of Ophthalmology, Xi’an Fourth Hospital; Xi’an Institute of Ocular Fundus Diseases.MATERIALS: The experiments were carried out in the research room of Xi’an Institute of Ocular Fundus Diseases from February 2005 to May 2006. Thirty healthy male SD rats of 4-5 weeks old, weighing 140-160 g, were provided by the animal experimental center of the Fourth Military Medical University of Chinese PLA [SCXK(Military)2002-005], and those without eye disease examined by slit lamp and direct ophthalmoscope after mydriasis were enrolled. The conditions for feeding mice without special pathogen were strictly followed. The rats were randomly divided into blank control group (n =5), laser group (n =5), hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) group and AION group (n =15), each group was numbered randomly. For each rat, the right eye was taken as the experimental eye, and the left one as the control one.METHODS: In the AION group, the rats were injected with HPD (10 mg/kg) via caudal vein, and then the optic discs were exposed to krypton red (647 nm, 80 mV) for 120 s, and the rats were in avoidance of light for 2 weeks postoperatively. Rats in the laser group were only exposed to krypton red (647 nm, 80 mV) for 120 s, and in avoidance of light for 2 weeks postoperatively; Those in the HPD group were only injected with HPD (10 mg/kg) via caudal vein; Those in the blank control group were untouched. ① Visual electrophysiological test: The F-VEP was used to evaluate the function of visual nerve. ② FFA: After mydriasis and anesthesia as describe above, the fluorescein sodium parenteral solution (1 mL/kg) was injected via caudal vein and finished within about 3 s, the time of FFA was recorded from the beginning of injection, the video sight aimed at the optic disc and the surrounding area. ③ After mydriasis and anesthesia as describe above, the rats were examined with OCT. ④ Histological observation: After hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, the optic disc and surrounding blood vessels of retina were observed under light microscope at high power field. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The results of fundus, FFA, visual electrophysiological test and OCT detection within 90 days after model establishment were observed. RESULTS: Of the 30 rats, 1 died after anesthesia in the laser group and 2 died in the AION group respectively, and finally 27 rats were involved in the analysis of results. ① Changes in fundus: In the AION group, there was edema in upper optic disc and unclear boundary at 1 day after establishment, edema still could be observed at 6 days, and upper optic disc atrophied and appeared as pale at 90 days. ② FFA results: In the AION group, early 'low fluorescence', middle and late 'high fluorescence' were observed in upper optic disc 1 day after model establishment, and there was 'low fluorescence' at 6 days, and the low fluorescence could be observed all the time at 23 days. ③ Visual electrophysiological changes: In the AION group as compared with the control eyes, the experimental ones had prolonged F-VEP P100 latency [(71.65±8.81), (57.58±8.38) ms, t =3.148, P =0.012], and decreased wave amplitude [(4.77±1.90), (10.06±3.66) μV, t =4.082, P =0.003], and these changes lasted to 35 days after model establishment. ④ OCT results: In the AION group, the reflection surface of part nerve fiber layer was higher than the retina plane, the surface was rough and the thickness was increased at 6 days after model establishment. ⑤ Histopathological results: At 1 day after model establishment, part optic discs had highly edema, edema of nerve fibers, and loose tissue, also accompanied by the displacement of surrounding retina; At 23 days, the optic disc and surrounding nerve fiber layers became thinner, and the numbers of ganglion nuclei in the retina tissue sections were obviously decreased. These changes were not observed in the laser group, HPD group and blank control group. | 16 | Multi-scale spatial relationships between soil total nitrogen and influencing factors in a basin landscape based on multivariate empirical mode decomposition显示文摘The relationships between soil total nitrogen(STN)and influencing factors are scale-dependent.The objective of this study was to identify the multi-scale spatial relationships of STN with selected environmental factors(elevation,slope and topographic wetness index),intrinsic soil factors(soil bulk density,sand content,silt content,and clay content)and combined environmental factors(including the first two principal components(PC1 and PC2)of the Vis-NIR soil spectra)along three sampling transects located at the upstream,midstream and downstream of Taiyuan Basin on the Chinese Loess Plateau.We separated the multivariate data series of STN and influencing factors at each transect into six intrinsic mode functions(IMFs)and one residue by multivariate empirical mode decomposition(MEMD).Meanwhile,we obtained the predicted equations of STN based on MEMD by stepwise multiple linear regression(SMLR).The results indicated that the dominant scales of explained variance in STN were at scale 995 m for transect 1,at scales 956 and 8852 m for transect 2,and at scales 972,5716 and 12,317 m for transect 3.Multi-scale correlation coefficients between STN and influencing factors were less significant in transect 3 than in transects 1 and 2.The goodness of fit root mean square error(RMSE),normalized root mean square error(NRMSE),and coefficient of determination(R2)indicated that the prediction of STN at the sampling scale by summing all of the predicted IMFs and residue was more accurate than that by SMLR directly.Therefore,the multi-scale method of MEMD has a good potential in characterizing the multi-scale spatial relationships between STN and influencing factors at the basin landscape scale. | ZHU Hongfen CAO Yi JING Yaodong LIU Geng BI Rutian YANG Wude | 2019 | Journal of Arid Land2019,11,3: | 0 |

| 18 | Ezrin expression and its translocation in human primary sporadic colorectal carcinoma and prognostic significance显示文摘Objective: The membrane-linking protein Ezrin is highly expressed in several types of human cancers. The cor- relations between its immunoreactivity and histopathological data as well as patient outcome have previously been shown. However, the role played by Ezrin in the carcinogenesis, progression and metastasis of primary sporadic colorectal carcinoma (SCRC) is still under investigation. This study assessed Ezrin protein expression in a series of clinical specimens. Methods: Immunohistochemical analysis was used to characterize patterns of Ezrin expression in 132 cases of SCRC, including 74 metastatic cases and 58 non-metastatic cases and 43 adjacent normal colorectal mucosa. Results: (1) The expression rate of Ezrin in SCRC (79.5%) was significantly higher than in adjacent normal colorectal mucosa (11.6%) (P < 0.001); (2) The total expression rate of Ezrin was 86.5% and 70.7% in metastatic group and non-metastatic group, respectively (P = 0.026); the membrane expression rate of Ezrin was 31.1% and 6.9% in the two groups, respectively (P < 0.01); (3) There was no relation- ship between the expression of Ezrin with age, gender, tumor size, location, degree of differentiation and invasive depth; (4) In the cases with followed-up data, univariate analysis demonstrated that Ezrin expression and its membrane translocation was correlated with worse patient’s disease-free survival (DFS) (Puni < 0.05). Conclusion: Ezrin was expressed in the majority of SCRC and associated with adverse prognostic factors. The increase expression and the switch of Ezrin localization from the cytoplasm to the membrane were closely correlated with metastasis in SCRC.
