Distribution and assessment of heavy metals in the surface sediment of Yellow River, China显示文摘Large amounts of heavy metals discharged by industrial cities that are located along the middle reach of Yellow River, China have detrimental impacts on both the ecological environment and human health. In this study, fourteen surface sediment samples were taken in the middle reach of the Yellow River. Contents of Zn, Pb, Ni, Cu, Cr, Cd, As were measured, and the pollution status was assessed using three widely used pollution assessment methods, including the single factor index method, Nemerow pollution index method and potential ecological risk index. The concentrations of the studied heavy metals followed the order: Zn > Cr > Cu > Ni > Pb > As > Cd. Nearly 50% of sites had Cu and Cr accumulation. The concentration of Cu at the Yiluo River exceeded the secondary standard value of the Environmental quality standard for soils. Comparison of heavy metal concentrations between this study and other selected rivers indicated that Cu and Cr may be the major pollutants in our case. The single factor index indicated that many samples were at high levels of pollution for Cu and Cd; the Nemerow pollution index indicated that the Yihe River, Luohe River, Yiluo River and Huayuankou were polluted. According to the results of potential ecological risk assessment, Cd in the tributaries of Luo River, Yihe River, and Yiluo River showed high risk toward the ecosystem and human health, Cd in Huanyuankou and Cu in Yiluo River showed a middle level of risk and other samples were at a low level of risk.Nan Yan Wenbin Liu Huiting Xie Lirong Gao Ying Han Mengjing Wang Haifeng Li 2016Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,1:33
Spatial distribution of polychlorinated biphenyls in soil around a municipal solid waste incinerator显示文摘The impact of a typical municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) on polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) concentrations in the surrounding soil was studied. Six stack gas samples were taken from the MSWI and 21 soil samples were collected from sampling sites between 300 and 1700 m from the MSWI stack. The total (∑PCB) concentrations of dioxin-like (dl) PCBs and indicator PCBs in the stack gas samples were between 3.41 and 34.3 ng/m3, and the corresponding toxic equivalents (TEQs) ranged from 4.45 to 66.9 pg WHO-TEQ/m3, with a mean of 28.6 pg WHO-TEQ/m3. A total of 2.43 g WHO-TEQ of PCBs per year was calculated to be released into the environment from MSWIs in China. The ∑PCB concentrations in the soil samples ranged from 28.0 to 264.4 pg/g, with mean and median values of 127.6 and 127.7 pg/g, respectively, while the TEQ values were between 0.020 and 0.18 pg WHO-TEQ/g, with mean and median values of 0.074 and 0.062 pg WHO-TEQ/g, respectively. Comparing this study with other studies performed around the world suggest that PCB emission from incinerators has a critical influence on PCB concentrations in the surrounding soil. An exponential function equation is proposed, which indicates a clear decline in ∑PCB concentrations with increasing distance from the stack. A contour map created using an ordinary kriging interpolation technique showed that a limited area (1250 m radius) from the stack was clearly influenced by PCB emission from the MSWI.Wenbin Liu Haifeng Li Zhenyu Tian Huiting Xie Jicheng Hu 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,8:5

Effects of Jiazhu decoction in combination with cyclophosphamide on breast cancer in mice显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the therapeutic effects of Jiazhu decoction (JZD) in combination with cyclophosphamide (CTX) on the growth of breast cancer in mice and to explore the possible molecular mechanisms of action. METHODS: BALB/c mice were randomly divided into four groups of 10 (untreated model group, JZD group, CTX group, and JZD + CTX group) and subcutaneously injected with 4T1 mouse breast cancer cells. Tumors were allowed to establish for ~7 d before initiation of treatment with CTX (100 mg/kg every week by intraperitoneal injection) and/or JZD (0.015 mL of 1.65 g/mL crude drug, administered daily by gavage). The model group received equivalent volumes of vehicle on the same schedules. Tumor volumes were measured every 3 d. Mice were sacrificed after 3 weeks of treatment, and tumors were excised and subjected to RT-qPCR and western blot analysis to evaluate expression of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway components β-catenin, c-Myc, and cyclin D1 at the mRNA and protein levels. RESULTS: The mean tumor volume was smaller and the growth rate was slower in the CTX and JZD + CTX groups compared with the model group (P < 0.05), and in the JZD + CTX group compared with the CTX and JZD groups (P < 0.05). Tumor growth was inhibited by 35.4% and 48.1% by CTX and JZD + CTX treatment, respectively (P < 0.001). The expression of β-catenin, c-Myc, and cyclin D1 mRNA and protein in tumors was significantly lower in mice treated with JZD or JZD + CTX compared with the untreated mice (P < 0.05), and was significantly lower in mice treated with JZD + CTX compared with either JZD or CTX alone (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: JZD inhibited the growth of mouse breast cancer cells in vivo, possibly by reducing the expression of β-catenin, c-Myc, and cyclin D1. Combination therapy with JZD plus CTX had a more potent inhibitory effect on breast cancer growth compared with either agent alone.Guan Huiting Xie Su Liu Shangyi Xie Qing Hou Shengkai Liu Huarong Zhang Yunjie Hu Yaqing Zhang Chenyu 2019Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2019,39,5:4
Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans and polychlorinated biphenyls in surface soil from the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Concentrations of Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans(PCDD/Fs) and polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs) in soil samples from Tibetan Plateau were determined. The average concentration of total 2,3,7,8-PCDD/Fs was(2.30 ± 1.02) pg/g, and World Health Organization Toxicity Equivalency(WHO-TEQ) average concentration was(0.013 ± 0.010)pg WHO-TEQ/g. The average concentration of ∑PCBs(7 indicator PCB and 12 dioxin like-PCB congeners) was(16.2 ± 9.25) pg/g, and WHO-TEQ average concentration was 0.043 ±0.049 pg WHO-TEQ/g. Comparing to previous studies in similar environmental conditions,PCDD/Fs and PCBs in this study showed a relatively lower concentration. The altitude dependences of PCDD/Fs and PCBs were also studied. Total organic carbon(TOC) normalized concentrations presented a quadratic relation with the altitudes, and an inflection could be found on the parabola of the total concentrations and some congeners of high concentration. The concentrations decreased with altitudes below about 4500 m above sea level(a.s.l.), while they increased with altitudes above it. These phenomena indicate that cold condensation of PCDD/Fs and PCBs would happen above 4500 m a.s.l, on the Tibetan Plateau.Zhenyu Tian Haifeng Li Huiting Xie Chen Tang Ying Han Mengjing Wang Wenbin Liu 2014Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,10:2

Recent advances and emerging trends in antiviral defense networking in rice显示文摘Plants and viruses coexist in the natural ecosystem for extended periods of time, interacting with each other and even coevolving, maintaining a dynamic balance between plant disease resistance and virus pathogenicity.During virus–host interactions, plants often exhibit abnormal growth and development. However, plants do not passively withstand virus attacks but have evolved sophisticated and effective defense mechanisms to resist, limit,or undermine virus infections. It is widely believed that the initial stage of infection features the most intense interactions between the virus and the host and the greatest variety of activated signal transduction pathways. This review describes the most recent findings in rice antiviral research and discusses a variety of rice antiviral molecular mechanisms, including those based on R genes and recessive resistance,RNA silencing, phytohormone signaling, autophagy and WUSmediated antiviral immunity. Finally,we discuss the challenges and future prospects of breeding rice for enhanced virus resistance.Lu Wang Huiting Xie Xiaoyuan Zheng Jiasheng Chen Shuai Zhang Jianguo Wu 2021The Crop Journal2021,9,3:1

The synthesis of fluorescent nanoclusters based on the etching reaction显示文摘Thiolate-protected atomically precise nanoclusters(NCs)demonstrate a series of unique luminescent characteristics attributed to their various peculiar electronic structures. Therefore, fluorescent NCs present extraordinary practical values in biosensing and bioimaging research fields.Nevertheless, restricted by the types of fluorescent NCs,there are great difficulties in promoting the development of NCs in fluorescent research areas. As a result,it is of significant necessity for researchers to develop new synthetic pathways to produce high-quality fluorescent NCs.According to the analysis about the structural characteristics of fluorescent NCs,some general features like longer motif and higher ligand-to-metal ratio can be found, consistent to some presented regularities in etching reaction.Consequently,in this work,we used Au_(25)(MHA)_(18)(MHA=6-mercaptohexanoic acid)as a model nanocluster and utilized the etching reaction to systematically explore etching products and their corresponding luminescent properties. Moreover,we also identified three main reaction processes in the entire etching reaction process, which can generate new metal nanocluster species with various fluorescent properties.Hence, the etching reaction will provide a good platform to produce new luminescent metal NC species.Hongbin Lin Yitao Cao Qiaofeng Yao Tiankai Chen Huiting Shan Jianping Xie 2024Nano Research2024,17,5:0
Rational design of smart adsorbent equipped with a sensitive indicator via ligand exchange:A hierarchical porous mixed-ligand MOF for simultaneous removal and detection of Hg^(2+)显示文摘The increasing accumulation of toxic mercury species in water environment has posed a serious health threat worldwide, making it inevitable to develop the versatile materials to achieve efficient prevention and remediation of mercury pollution. Guided by the solvent-assisted ligand exchange (SALE) approach, this work rationally constructed a mixed-ligand NH2-UiO-66-SH (NSU66) with hierarchical-pore structure by incorporating the thiol-rich ligands (H2DMBD) into the water-stable NH2-UiO-66 (NU66) precursor to act as a smart adsorbent equipped with sensitive detector for simultaneous sensing and removal of Hg2+. Unlike the traditional adsorbents, the as-prepared NSU66 not only exhibits a remarkable removal ability with fast capture rate (within 60.0 min), large uptake capacity (265.29 mg/g), and qualified selectivity, but also possesses satisfactory sensing capability, accompanied by low detection limit (3.50 × 10−2 µM), wide linear range (1.00–99.7 µM), high specificity, and strong anti-interference capability. The detection function plays a vital role in indicating the removal behavior and the pre-enrichment effect of adsorption process correspondingly improves the sensitivity of indicator. Notably, the sensing and trapping capabilities of NSU66 are significantly improved compared to the NU66, which stems from the delicate design of the mixed-ligand and hierarchical-pore structure. Furthermore, proven excellent stability and recyclability emphasize the feasibility of NSU66 in practical applications. These results suggest that the smart NSU66 adsorbent can serve as a favorable platform for early warning and guided removal of toxic Hg2+ in water.Liang Zhang Jing Wang Huiting Wang Wentao Zhang Wenxin Zhu Ting Du Yongsheng Ni Xianghong Xie Jing Sun Jianlong Wang 2021Nano Research2021,14,5:0
Lead toxicity thresholds in 17 Chinese soils based on substrate-induced nitrification assay显示文摘The influence of soil properties on toxicity threshold values for Pb toward soil microbial processes is poorly recognized. The impact of leaching on the Pb threshold has not been assessed systematically. Lead toxicity was screened in 17 Chinese soils using a substrate-induced nitrification(SIN) assay under both leached and unleached conditions. The effective concentration of added Pb causing 50% inhibition(EC50) ranged from 185 to> 2515 mg/kg soil for leached soil and 130 to > 2490 mg/kg soil for unleached soil. These results represented > 13- and > 19-fold variations among leached and unleached soils, respectively. Leaching significantly reduced Pb toxicity for 70% of both alkaline and acidic soils tested, with an average leaching factor of 3.0. Soil p H and CEC were the two most useful predictors of Pb toxicity in soils, explaining over 90% of variance in the unleached EC50 value. The relationships established in the present study predicted Pb toxicity within a factor of two of measured values. These relationships between Pb toxicity and soil properties could be used to establish site-specific guidance on Pb toxicity thresholds.Ji Li Yizong Huang Ying Hu Shulan Jin Qiongli Bao Fei Wang Meng Xiang Huiting Xie 2016Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,6:0
