1Polybrominated diphenyl ethers in atmosphere and soil of a production area in China:Levels and partitioning显示文摘Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) were measured in atmosphere and soil samples taken in winter and summer at a PBDE production area of Laizhou Bay in China.The concentrations of 11 PBDE were 0.017-1.17 ng/m 3 in gaseous phase,0.5-161.1 ng/m 3 in particulate phase,and 73-2629 ng/g dry weight in soil samples.The PBDE congener pattern in the gaseous phase differed from that in the particulate phase,and the PBDE congener pattern in the particulate phase was similar with that in soil.This demonstrated that there was little difference with atmospheric particle-soil transfer efficiency among PBDE congeners.In addition,there were seasonal variations in percentages on particle for lower brominated congeners.The BDE-28 was mostly in the gaseous phase in summer (88.3%),whereas the average proportion of BDE-28 in gaseous phase in winter was 38.9%.Higher brominated congeners (i.e.,BDE-206,BDE207,BDE-208,and BDE-209) were bound to the atmospheric particulate phase,and their potentials for long-range migration were mainly affected by the environmental behavior of atmospheric particles.Results indicated that PBDE congeners in summer were closer to gas-particle partition equilibrium than in winter.Temperature should be considered the main factor causing nonequilibrium in winter.Jun Jin Ying Wang Weizhi Liu Congqiao Yang Jicheng Hu Jian Cui 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,3:12
2Synthesis of magnetically modified palygorskite composite for immobilization of Candida sp. 99–125 lipase via adsorption显示文摘Magnetically modified palygorskite composites were synthesized with γ-Fe2O3 dispersing on the external surface of clay mineral. The magnetic clay was characterized with Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer. Candida sp. 99–125 lipase was immobilized on magnetic palygorskite composites by physical adsorption with enzyme loading of41.5 mg·g-1support and enzyme activity of 2631.6 U·(g support)-1. 3Spatial distribution of polychlorinated biphenyls in soil around a municipal solid waste incinerator显示文摘The impact of a typical municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) on polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) concentrations in the surrounding soil was studied. Six stack gas samples were taken from the MSWI and 21 soil samples were collected from sampling sites between 300 and 1700 m from the MSWI stack. The total (∑PCB) concentrations of dioxin-like (dl) PCBs and indicator PCBs in the stack gas samples were between 3.41 and 34.3 ng/m3, and the corresponding toxic equivalents (TEQs) ranged from 4.45 to 66.9 pg WHO-TEQ/m3, with a mean of 28.6 pg WHO-TEQ/m3. A total of 2.43 g WHO-TEQ of PCBs per year was calculated to be released into the environment from MSWIs in China. The ∑PCB concentrations in the soil samples ranged from 28.0 to 264.4 pg/g, with mean and median values of 127.6 and 127.7 pg/g, respectively, while the TEQ values were between 0.020 and 0.18 pg WHO-TEQ/g, with mean and median values of 0.074 and 0.062 pg WHO-TEQ/g, respectively. Comparing this study with other studies performed around the world suggest that PCB emission from incinerators has a critical influence on PCB concentrations in the surrounding soil. An exponential function equation is proposed, which indicates a clear decline in ∑PCB concentrations with increasing distance from the stack. 4Rett syndrome-causing mutations compromise MeCP2- mediated liquid—liquid phase separation of chromatin显示文摘Rett syndrome(RTT),a severe postnatal neurodevelopmental disorder,is caused by mutations in the X-linked gene encoding methyl-CpG-binding protein 2(MeCP2).MeCP2 is a chromatin organizer regulating gene expression.RTT-causing mutations have been shown to affect this function.However,the mechanism by which MeCP2 organizes chromatin is unclear.In this study,we found that MeCP2 can induce compaction and liquid-liquid phase separation of nudeosomal arrays in vitro,and DNA methylation further enhances formation of chromatin condensates by MeCP2.Interestingly,RTT-causing mutations compromise MeCP2-mediated chromatin phase separation,while benign variants have little effect on this process.Moreover,MeCP2 competes with linker histone H1 to form mutually exclusive chromatin condensates in vitro and distinct heterochromatin foci in vivo.RTT-causing mutations reduce or even abolish the ability of MeCP2 to compete with histone H1 and to form chromatin condensates.Together,our results identify a novel mechanism by which phase separation underlies MeCP2-mediated heterochromatin formation and reveal the potential link between this process and the pathology of RTT.Liang Wang Mingli Hu Mei-Qing Zuo Jicheng Zhao Di Wu Li Huang Yongxin Wen Yunfan Li Ping Chen Xinhua Bao Meng-Qiu Dong Guohong Li Pilong Li 2020Cell Research2020,30,5:3
5Characteristics of mass distributions of aerosol particle and its inorganic water-soluble ions in summer over a suburb farmland in Beijing显示文摘Agricultural activity is one of the most important sources of aerosol particles.To understand the mass distribu-tion and sources of aerosol particles and their inorganic water-soluble ions in a suburb farmland of Beijing,particle samples were collected using a microorifice uniform deposit impactor(MOUDI)in the summer of 2004 in a suburb vege-table field.The distribution of the particles and their inor-ganic water-soluble ions in the diameter range of 0.18-18 mm were measured.The dominant fine particle ions were SO_(4)^(2−),NO^(3−),and NH_(4)^(+).The association of day-to-day variation of the concentration of these ions with temperature,humidity,and solar radiation suggested that they are formed by the reac-tion of NH_(3) released from the vegetable field with the acid species produced from photochemical reactions.Fine particle K+is likely from vegetation emission and biomass burning.Coarse particles like Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+),NO_(3)^(−),and SO_(4)^(2−)are sug-gested to come from the mechanical process by which the soil particle entered the atmosphere,and from the reaction of the acid species at the surface of the soil particle.The results show that fertilizer and soil are important factors determining the aerosol particle over agricultural fields,and vegetable fields in suburban Beijing contribute significantly to the aerosol particle.ZHAO Peng ZHU Tong LIANG Baosheng HU Min KANG Ling GONG Jicheng 2007Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2007,1,2:2
6Shape-controlled synthesis of liquid metal nanodroplets for photothermal therapy显示文摘The capping agents for liquid metal (LM) nanodroplets in aqueous solutions are restricted to thiol-containing and positively-charged molecules or macromolecules.However,both thiolate-metal complex and electrostatic interaction are liable to detachment upon strong mechanical forces such as sonication,leading to limited stability and applications.To address this,we utilized ultrasmall water soluble melanin nanoparticles (MNPs) as the capping agent,which exhibited strong metal binding capability with the oxide layer of gallium based LMs and resulted in enhanced stability.Interestingly,shape-controlled synthesis of LM nanodroplets can be achieved by the incorporation of MNPs.Various EGaln nanostructures including nanorice,nanosphere and nanorod were obtained by simply tuning the feed ratio,sonication time,and suspension temperature.Among these shapes,EGaln nanorice has the best photothermal conversion efficiency,which could be leveraged for photothermal therapy.Junjie Yan Xudong Zhang Yang Liu Yanqi Ye Jicheng Yu Qian Chen Jinqiang Wang Yuqi Zhang Quanyin Hu Yang Kang Min Yang Zhen Gu 2019Nano Research2019,12,6:2
7Patterns and drivers of CH_(4) concentration and diffusive flux from a temperate river–reservoir system in North China显示文摘Freshwater reservoirs are regarded as an important anthropogenic source of methane(CH_(4))emissions. The temporal and spatial variability of CH_(4) emissions from different reservoirs results in uncertainty in the estimation of the global CH_(4) budget. In this study, surface water CH_(4) concentrations were measured and diffusive CH_(4) fluxes were estimated via a thin boundary layer model in a temperate river–reservoir system in North China, using spatial(33 sites) and temporal(four seasons) monitoring;the system has experienced intensive aquaculture disturbance. Our results indicated that the dissolved CH_(4) concentration in the reservoir ranged from 0.07 to 0.58 μmol/L, with an annual average of 0.13 ± 0.10 μmol/L, and the diffusive CH_(4) flux across the water–air interface ranged from 0.66 to 3.61 μmol/(m^(2)·hr),with an annual average of 1.67 ± 0.75 μmol/(m^(2)·hr). During the study period, the dissolved CH_(4) concentration was supersaturated and was a net source of atmospheric CH_(4) . Notably,CH_(4) concentration and diffusive flux portrayed large temporal and spatial heterogeneity.The river inflow zone was determined to be a hotspot for CH_(4) emissions, and its flux was significantly higher than that of the tributary and main basin;the CH_(4) flux in autumn was greater than that in other seasons. We also deduced that the CH_(4) concentration/diffusive flux was co-regulated mainly by water temperature, water depth, and water productivity(Chla, trophic status). 19Bioinspired PcBN/hBN fibrous monolithic ceramic:High-temperature crack resistance responses and self-lubricating performances显示文摘The high strength and toughness of natural materials are mainly determined by a combination of mechanisms operating at different length scales,which can be used as a strategy to reduce the intrinsic brittleness of ceramics.Inspired by the architectures of bamboo,the polycrystalline cubic boron nitride/hexagonal boron nitride(PcBN/hBN)fibrous monolithic ceramics with a long fiber arrangement structure was constructed with PcBN fiber cells and hBN cell boundaries,and its crack resistance responses and tribological performances were investigated.The composite ceramic failed in a non-brittle manner with the rising resistance curve(R-curve)behavior,which was attributed to multiscale crack effects in the hierarchical architecture.The maximum crack growth toughness was extremely high(approximately 21 MPa×m^(1/2)),corresponding to a 270%increase over the crack initiation toughness.Excellent fracture resistance could be retained even above 1000℃.Moreover,the composite ceramic exhibited low and stable friction coefficients(approximately 0.33)when paired with a Si_(3)N_(4)pin at high temperature(1000℃),owing to the lubrication function of hBN cell boundaries with weak van der Waals forces and a small amount of liquid B_(2)O_(3)produced.As a result,a synergistic improvement of mechanical and tribological properties at high temperature(1000℃)was realized by combining bionic structure and tribological design.It provides important theoretical and technical support for expanding the application of self-lubricating composite ceramics in harsh environments.Shu-na CHEN Hengzhong FAN Yunfeng SU Jicheng LI Junjie SONG Litian HU Yongsheng ZHANG 2022Journal of Advanced Ceramics2022,11,9:0
