| 3 | 中国人头发纤维在UVA紫外光老化中的光谱学研究显示文摘生活中,日光中的紫外辐射是导致头发光老化/光损伤的重要环境因素。长时间光照可使染发和天然发出现包括颜色褪变在内的退行性变化。以中老年人的自然灰发为样本来源,通过分离和人工漂染处理,获得了包括自然发色、漂白和染黑的六种头发类型,经过UVA(320~400nm)紫外光老化,采用漫反射光谱、三维荧光光谱和衰减全反射傅里叶变换红外光谱对头发纤维的老化特征进行无损分析,结合头发中光产生过氧化氢的定量分析,探讨了不同发色和漂染处理对头发耐光性的影响。结果表明,UVA辐照可通过Ⅱ型电子转移机制诱导头发中的光敏基团产生过氧化氢,导致纤维表面蛋白和色素分子的光氧化降解。自然发色与漂染发在光老化中的颜色变化不同:灰发和白发主要发生光黄化,人工染发和漂白发分别发生光褪色和光漂白。高湿度环境能加速头发的光降解。化学漂染处理会使头发中的光致过氧化氢水平升高,使纤维处于较高的氧化压力从而影响头发的光稳定性;而头发中的黑色素分子,包括天然黑色素和染发剂的人工黑色素,可能具有自由基产生与清除双重性。研究结果为建立中国人头发光损伤的光谱学评价方法和进一步研发针对国人发质的染护发产品提供了重要的实验基准数据。 | 唐颖 Gerald J.Smith | 2016 | 光谱学与光谱分析2016,36,6: | 6 |

| 5 | Climatic and Edaphic Controls on Soil pH in Alpine Grasslands on the Tibetan Plateau,China:A Quantitative Analysis显示文摘Soil acidity is an important parameter that can regulate ecosystem structure and function.However,a quantitative understanding of the relationships between soil pH and environmental factors remains unavailable.In this study,relationships of soil pH with both climatic and edaphic factors in alpine grasslands on the Tibetan Plateau,China were quantified using data obtained from a regional soil survey during 2001-2004.Our results showed that soil pH decreased along the gradient of both mean annual temperature and precipitation.Likewise,soil pH exhibited consistent negative correlations with soil moisture and silt content.However,soil organic and inorganic carbon contents played opposite roles in shaping patterns of soil pH:the accumulation of soil organic matter led to higher soil acidity,while the existence of soil inorganic matter was favorable for maintaining higher soil alkalinity.The variation partitioning analysis indicated that the combination of climatic and edaphic variables explained 74.3%of the variation in soil acidity.These results suggest that soil pH could be predicted from routinely-measured variables,allowing a robust pedotransfer function to be developed.The pedotransfer function may facilitate land surface models to generate more reliable predictions on ecosystem structure and function around the world. | JI Cheng-Jun YANG Yuan-He HAN Wen-Xuan HE Yan-Fang J.SMITH P.SMITH | 2014 | Pedosphere2014,24,1: | 5 |

| 8 | Ground-Based LiDAR Improves Phenotypic Repeatability of Above-Ground Biomass and Crop Growth Rate in Wheat显示文摘Highly repeatable,nondestructive,and high-throughput measures of above-ground biomass(AGB)and crop growth rate(CGR)are important for wheat improvement programs.This study evaluates the repeatability of destructive AGB and CGR measurements in comparison to two previously described methods for the estimation of AGB from LiDAR:3D voxel index(3DVI)and 3D profile index(3DPI).Across three field experiments,contrasting in available water supply and comprising up to 98 wheat genotypes varying for canopy architecture,several concurrent measurements of LiDAR and AGB were made from jointing to anthesis.Phenotypic correlations at discrete events between AGB and the LiDAR-derived biomass indices were significant,ranging from 0.31(P<0:05)to 0.86(P<0:0001),providing confidence in the LiDAR indices as effective surrogates for AGB.The repeatability of the LiDAR biomass indices at discrete events was at least similar to and often higher than AGB,particularly under water limitation.The correlations between calculated CGR for AGB and the LiDAR indices were moderate to high and varied between experiments.However,across all experiments,the repeatabilities of the CGR derived from the LiDAR indices were appreciably greater than those for AGB,except for the 3DPI in the water-limited environment.In our experiments,the repeatability of either LiDAR index was consistently higher than that of AGB,both at discrete time points and when CGR was calculated.These findings provide promising support for the reliable use of ground-based LiDAR,as a surrogate measure of AGB and CGR,for screening germplasm in research and wheat breeding. | David M.Deery Greg J.Rebetzke Jose A.Jimenez-Berni Anthony G.Condon David J.Smith Kathryn M.Bechaz William D.Bovill | 2020 | Plant Phenomics2020,2,1: | 4 |

| 11 | Intervertebral disc development and disease-related genetic polymorphisms显示文摘The intervertebral disc(IVD)comprises a gelatinous inner core(nucleus pulposus;NP)and concentric rings(annulus fibrosus;AF).The NP,an important structure for shock absorption in the vertebrate spinal motion segment,can be traced back to the notochord in ontogenetic lineage.In vertebrates,the notochord undergoes mucinoid changes,and had been considered vestigial until recently.However,observed correlations between IVD degeneration and back pain in humans have renewed interest in the IVD in biomedical fields.Beyond its mechanical contribution to development,the notochord is also an essential signaling center,which coordinates formation of the neural tube and somites.The pertinent signaling molecules,particularly TGF-b and bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs),continue to play roles in the adult tissues and have been utilized for tissue regeneration.Genetic factors are major determinants of who will develop IVD degeneration and related back pain,and seem to correlate better with disc degeneration and back pain than do external forces on the spine.In summary,the spinal column is a landmark development in evolution.Genes directing the development of the IVD may also contribute to its maintenance,degeneration,and regeneration.Likewise,structural genes as well as genes responsible for maintenance of the structure are related to IVD degeneration.Finally,genes responsible for inflammation may play a dual role in exacerbating degeneration or facilitating repair responses depending on the context. | Jason W.Ashley Motomi Enomoto-Iwamoto Lachlan J.Smith Robert L.Mauck Danny Chan Joseph Lee Martin F.Heyworth Howard An Yejia Zhang | 2016 | Genes & Diseases2016,3,3: | 3 |

Improving soilquality and soil health has been advocated as the goal ofsoil management toward sustainable agricultural intensifi-cation. There have been renewed efforts to define andquantify soil quality and soil health but establishing aconsensus on the key indicators remains difficult. It isargued that such difficulties are due to the former ways ofthinking in soil management which largely focus on soilproperties alone. A systems approach that treats soils as akey component of agricultural production systems ispromoted. It is argued that soil quality must be quantifiedin terms of crop productivity and impacts on ecosystemsservices that are also strongly driven by climate andmanagement interventions. A systems modeling approachcaptures the interactions among climate, soil, crops andmanagement, and their impacts on system performance,thus helping to quantify the value and quality of soils.Here, three examples are presented to demonstrate this. | 19 | Cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness associations with older adolescent cognitive control显示文摘Background:Participation in physical activity supports greater cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF),a correlate of cognitive control.However,the relationship between muscular fitness(MF)and cognitive control is less clear.The present study investigated the differential relationship of CRF and MF with cognitive control in older adolescents.Methods:This cross-sectional study involved students(1517 years old,n=541,43%female)from 20 secondary schools who completed tests of inhibition(modified flanker task),working memory(n-back task),CRF(Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run),and MF(standing long jump and push-up test).Multilevel analyses tested the association between CRF or MF and cognitive outcomes while accounting for the influence of the other fitness variable and relevant demographic factors.Results:CRF predicted response accuracy during incongruent flanker trials,the condition requiring greater inhibition.For the working memory task,CRF predicted greater target accuracy and greater d’scores on the 1-back task,requiring lesser amounts of working memory.In the 2-back task,which requires greater amounts of working memory,CRF also predicted greater target and non-target accuracy and d’scores.Comparatively,MF did not predict any cognitive outcomes after adjustment for CRF.Conclusion:CRF was selectively related to better performance during task conditions that require greater amounts of inhibition and working memory.This finding suggests that CRF,but not MF,may benefit cognitive control in older adolescents.This selective influence of CRF on older adolescents’cognition highlights the value of aerobic physical activity. | Tatsuya T.Shigeta Angus A.Leahy Jordan J.Smith Narelle Eather David R.Lubans Charles H.Hillman | 2021 | Journal of Sport and Health Science2021,10,1: | 1 |
