| 1 | Wx^lv、the Ancestral Allele of Rice Waxy Gene显示文摘In rice grains,the Waxy (Wx) gene is responsible for the synthesis of amylose,the most important determinant for eating and cooking quality.The effects of several Wx alleles on amylose content and the taste of cooked rice have been elucidated.However,the relationship between artificial selection and the evolution of various Wx alleles as well as their distribution remain unclear.Here we report the identification of an ancestral allele,Wx^lv,which dramatically affects the mouthfeel of rice grains by modulating the size of amylose molecules.We demonstrated that WF originated directly from wild rice,and the three major Wx alleles in cultivated rice (Wx^b,Wx^a,and Wx^in) differentiated after the substitution of one base pair at the functional sites.These data indicate that the Wx^lv allele played an important role in artificial selection and domestication.The findings also shed light on the evolution of various Wx alleles,which have greatly contributed to improving the eating and cooking quality of rice. | Changquan Zhang Jihui Zhu Shengjie Chen Xiaolei Fan Qianfeng Li Yan Lu Min Wang Hengxiu Yu Chuandeng Yi Shuzhu Tang Minghong Gu Qiaoquan Liu | 2019 | Molecular Plant2019,12,8: | 22 |
| 2 | A rare Waxy allele coordinately improves rice eating and cooking quality and grain transparency显示文摘In rice(Oryza sativa), amylose content(AC) is the major factor that determines eating and cooking quality(ECQ). The diversity in AC is largely attributed to natural allelic variation at the Waxy(Wx)locus. Here we identified a rare Wx allele, Wx^(mw) ,which combines a favorable AC, improved ECQ and grain transparency. Based on a phylogenetic analysis of Wx genomic sequences from 370 rice accessions, we speculated that Wx^(mw) may have derived from recombination between two important natural Wx alleles, Wx^(in) and Wx^(b). We validated the effects of Wx^(mw) on rice grain quality using both transgenic lines and near-isogenic lines(NILs). When introgressed into the japonica Nipponbare(NIP) background, Wx^(mw) resulted in a moderate AC that was intermediate between that of NILs carrying the Wx^(b)allele and NILs with the Wx^(mp) allele. Notably, mature grains of NILs fixed for Wx^(mw) had an improved transparent endosperm relative to soft rice. Further, we introduced Wx^(mw) into a high-yielding japonica cultivar via molecular marker-assisted selection: the introgressed lines exhibited clear improvements in ECQ and endosperm transparency. | 4 | Prognostic significance of combining high mobility group Box-1 and OV-6 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘The inflammatory environment and existence of cancer stem cells are critical for progression and intrahepatic recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) after curative resections. Here, we investigated the prognostic significance of combining high mobility group box 1(HMGB1) expression and hepatic progenitor marker OV6 in hepatocellular carcinoma. Expression of HMGB1 and OV6 was evaluated using immunohistochemistry profiling in tissue microarrays containing samples from 208 HCC patients. Invasive clinical or pathological factors were found in patients with high expression of HMGB1 or OV6. Higher HMGB1 was associated with poorer clinical outcomes, and independently related to elevated 5-year recurrence incidence(85.5% vs. 62.4%, P<0.001). We also found that more OV6 positive staining was correlated with poor prognosis of HCC patients(P<0.001). Notably, expression of HMGB1 was positively correlated with OV6 in density(R2=0.032, P<0.001) and reversely related to HCC outcomes. Abnormal expression of HMGB1 in combination with positive staining of OV6 displayed poorer prognostic performance than single biomarker alone(area under curve(AUC) survival=0.696). | 5 | Long-period Gratings in-situ Sensing for Flow Monitoring in Liquid Composite Molding显示文摘Liquid composite moulding (LCM) processes are used to manufacture high quality and complex-shaped composite parts in the automotive, marine, aerospace and civil industries. On-line sensing plays an important role in controlling the quality of the final product in the LCM manufacturing environment. The long-period fiber grating (LPG)technology, a new real-time fiber optic sensor system, was developed to monitor the flow front progression. The sensor operation and characterization under various process conditions were discussed in detail. | 6 | Possibility of women treated with fertility-sparing surgery fornon-epithelial ovarian tumors to safely and successfully becomepregnant--a Chinese retrospective cohort study among 148cases显示文摘This study was performed to evaluate the oncological and reproductive outcomes of childbearing-agewomen treated with fertility-sparing surgery (FSS) for non-epithelial ovarian tumors in China. One hundred andforty eight non-epithelial ovarian tumor women treated with FSS between January I, 2000 and August 31, 2015from two medical centers in China were identified. Progression-free survival (PFS) was 88.5%, whereas overallsurvival (OS) was 93.9%. Univariate analysis suggested that delivery after treatment is related to PFS (P = 0.023),whereas histology significantly influenced OS. Cox regression analysis suggested that only histology was associatedwith PFS and OS (P 〈 0.05). Among the 129 women who completed adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT), nonedeveloped amenorrhea. Among the 44 women who desired pregnancy, 35 (79.5%) successfully had 51 gestationsincluding 35 live births without birth defects. Non-epithelial ovarian tumors can achieve fulfilling prognosis afterFSS and chemotherapy. Histology might be the only independent prognostic factor for PFS and OS. FSS followedby ACT appeared to have little or no effect on fertility. Meanwhile, postoperative pregnancy did not increase thePFS or OS. | 9 | Crystal design of bismuth oxyiodide with highly exposed (110) facets on curved carbon nitride for the photocatalytic degradation of pollutants in wastewater显示文摘Crystalline materials with specific facet atomic arrangements and crystal facet structures exhibit unique functions according to their facet effects, quantum size effects and physical and chemical properties. In this study, a novel high-exposure (110) facet of bismuth oxyiodide (BiOI) was prepared (denoted as BiOI-110), and designed as nanosheets rich in oxygen vacancies by crystal facet design and regulation. Graphitic carbon nitride was designed as curved carbon nitride with dibromopyrazine, denoted as DCN, which contributed to a significant structural distortion in plane symmetry and improved the separation of charge carriers. Novel heterostructured BiOI-110/DCN nanosheets with a high-exposure (110) facet and abundant oxygen vacancies were successfully designed to enhance the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants. It was demonstrated that complete and tight contact between BiOI-110 and DCN was achieved by changing the size and crystal facet of BiOI. Oxytetracycline (OTC) and methyl blue dyes were used as targets for pollutant degradation, and 85.6% and 96.5% photocatalytic degradation efficiencies, respectively, were observed in the optimal proportion of 7% BiOI-110/DCN. The experimental results and electron spin resonance analysis showed that •O_(2)^(–) and h^(+) played a major role in the process of pollutant degradation. Additionally, high-resolution liquid chromatography-mass spectrography was used to identify the reaction intermediates of OTC, and the possible degradation pathway of this pollutant was proposed. Finally, the excellent reusability of BiOI-110/DCN nanomaterials was confirmed, providing a new approach for the removal of antibiotics that are difficult to biodegrade.
